DR Elmore, I would have wanted to know all his stories about working with the Freed Unit at MGM. But the Broadway stories certainly would have been interesting, too, especially since it appears during his career he worked with most of the greats in the industry.

As much as I love the original CINDERELLA with Julie Andrews, my favorite is his remake cast recording with Lesley Ann Warren with the new overture and "Loneliness of Evening" added.

I have the den to clean and fresh sheets to put on the bed, too, so I'll head down now.

Actually, I don't think anyone has commented on the audio clips, which now sound great - go listen again.

Joan's "Strangers Once Again" and "West End Avenue" still sound hollow. :-\ The rest of her songs and all of the "Brain" songs have much better sound.

Edi - I don't know that you'd necessarily even get face value for the tickets, since I assume people that want to see the show can get tix at the box office.  However, we'd LOVE to make a donation.  Can we send you the check, and what is name of the charity to make the check out to?  Or is there a site where we can donate online and have it credited to this particular event?

FJL, oh we will definitely get face value for the tickets, so since they are comps, that would be 100% benefit for SMA. I am moved by your generosity of your offer to donate. Even a small donation means a lot to SMA---it shows that there are a number of people interested in seeing that research is funded. Our governor has already cut the budget of a lot of programs that would benefit these kids. We staged a rally at the capitol a few months ago. Dozens of kids showed up in the cold in their wheelchairs. The governor turned his back on them and did not want to acknowledge them. I had never heard of SMA until 5 years ago, when we found out that Quinn had it, but this is a disease I think everyone should know about:

SMA is the #1 genetic cause of infant death.
SMA is carried by 1 in every 40 people, or 7 million potental parents.
(Quinn's parents were both carriers but weren't tested for this.)
SMA affects 1 in every 6,000 births.
SMA causes dramatic loss of strength and in the worst cases, the loss of ability to swallow and breathe. The mind remains unaffected, while the muscles waste away.

SMA has been chosen by the National Institute of Health to be a model for translational research because it is the closest to a treatment or cure out of all 300 neurological disorders.
Reasearch is focusing on drugs and genetic therapies that appear to increase the functionality of the backup gene, creating greater strength in people with SMA.

If you would indeed like to donate, you can do it at our website:

http://www.fightsma.org/index.php?fam_atlanta
or send a check to:
Tonya Mason
160 Wellington Drive
McDonough, GA 30252

In the area on the bottom of the check where it says "for", you would say "Absentee Buddy: Quinn".

I'm looking forward to the event---it keeps growing every year!

Thanks so much!

Tonight on TCM:

Thelma Ritter - The Mating Season

Gene Tierney, John Lund, Miriam Hopkins.

A VERY funny comedy with Ritter in TOP form!!  If you like any or all of the four people above and have never seen THE MATING SEASON (it's not on video or DVD) - give it a look.

This might be the last photo of him sitting on the step, I had to squeeze him in there. ;D

That's simple - have handy Keith make the step bigger.

Speaking of Eva Marie Saint, I did an imdb look-up and was amazed at how much work she's gotten in recent years. I often think how there aren't many good roles for the over-50 crowd, but she's found a lot of work. And good for her, too!

She was wonderful in BECAUSE OF WINN DIXIE!

Edi - Just made my donation online, but wasn't clear where to put the "Absentee Buddy:  Quinn" notation, so I just typed it in the comments box.

Had a nice time with Yvette Lawrence and one of her very cute daughters, Lulu. She's putting together a show and needed advice - I gave her a few tips, looked at her song list and made some other suggestions, all of which she seemed grateful for.  On Friday, I'll go over and listen to her selections in order with whatever patter she's been working on, and I've agreed to just help her a bit as a favor, because I like her.

I know you must have some idea, Bruce, what this new find is that Doug Fake has posted about at Intrada.

This 60s score in which all stereo elements have been found in pristine condition.

In which an extra half hour of music was found that he didn't know existed.

And that he is planning on releasing at a later date this year.

And if you know....why....I'm just all ears.

And I won't tell a soul.

Promise.

Not a one will hear the title pass my lips until it's announced.

Honest Injun.

Uh-huh.

DR George:

I have seen every episode of DIRT so if you have any questions about the show or characters, I'll be glad to try to answer them for you.

Thanks.  I just don't know what to ask.

Here's one...including last night's, how many episodes have there been?

Five.

Thanks again.  I probably haven't missed too much, then. :)

Then a friend who's trying to unload a rare first edition of Kerouac's On The Road came by, and I helped him with an eBay listing, after first being turned down by a dealer.  Dealer's only pay 50% of what they can sell it for, if that, so he wasn't going to get anywhere near what my friend wanted.  On the ABE, the book in like condition (which is excellent) goes anywhere from $3750 to about $8000.  My friend wants to come out with a more than reasonable $2500, so I think eBay is the best way to go, where he'll probably at least get close to that, depending on who sees the listing (I've suggested a "featured" auction for best visibility.  I wrote his description.
