I had a question yesterday, and now I have forgotten it.
And the word of the day is: AXIOMATIC!
And I'm hoping it's a GOOD day, Elmore.
Sorry to hear about your friend Russell DR ELMORE. Condolences and thoughts.
At the end of the season last fall, someone gave me a B I G box of makeup supplies - all unopened - I remembered it yesterday when I saw it on the counter.
So today, I am going to go through it and sort it out. I looked at it briefly last night - lots of stuff....lots of fingernails! We shall see what we can find tonight!

I think Mayor Shinn should have long lacquered nails like Fu Manchu and an Egyptian base complexion.
Aww, Druxy. She simply moved it to a place where you would see it. Now you have TWO!
DR DRUXY - have you been keeping track of the mileage on your car? Cats can be very secretive you know.
TOD:
If you couldn't be an Oscar Meyer Wiener, is there anything else you'd wish to want to be?
I have booked my flight, hotel, and car for my trip to the Bank of Bur in October. I shall be in the LA area from Oct. 7th to 14th. You have been warned.
Sorry to hear about your friend Russell DR ELMORE. Condolences and thoughts.
I thank everyone for their condolences.
I never think of Russell as one for sentimentality but once: when he was forced through the new owners of his apartment building on 47th Street to give it up and relocate permanently to Seattle, where he'd been living about 6 months a year, I could tell from our conversation on the day he left that he was weeping. This was around late 2008. He had moved everything he could back to Seattle except for his piano, which he gave to me, He kew I'd lost mine during the 2008 bed bug crisis.
It's sitting down at Toyland and I should move it back here.
When I was working on JUBILEE in January-March 1986, Russell helped me survive the stress of a horrid abusive producer who called daily with threats and invective. Because the New Amsterdam Theatre Company and the Porter Trust delayed getting me a contract by around 6 months, I was way behind my estimated completion date, as she constantly reminded me. Russell was at that time living in Manhattan around 90th asnd West End Avenue and using the producer's midtown apartment as a studio when she was out. He was aware from my conversations about her and her tirades about me to him that "Fang" (as he called her) was coming on strong like a bulldozer. Whenever he'd call to check on me and my mental condition, his first words were always "I'm calling from Gadhafi's bunker."
As to Fang, I had to have the Cole Porter attorneys call her and threaten her to leave me in peace to finish the score. I later, around 1990, ran into her at Goodspeed and she treated me like an old friend! She died a horrid death from multiple sclerosis, and Russell visited her regularly till she died.
Sad Story or I'm Going to Kill My Cat:
About a week ago, I discovered that there was a hole in my pants pocket and, shortly thereafter, I also discovered that the remote access device for my car was missing.
:(
I retraced all my steps, looked high and low, but could not find it.
:( :(
So, last Friday, I went up to Honda and bought a new one...for $90.00.
:'(
Guess what I found last night!
:o
The damn thing was sitting in plain sight...right atop a blanket where my cat often roosts.
>:(
I figure that I had dropped it or set it down someplace and, for the last week, Annie (who is now on my s**t list) has been using it as a toy.
>:( >:(
Can anybody give me the address of a good violin factory?
Wasn't there an old SNL skit about a cat that drove a car? Toonces or something like that?
I just got back from the Honda dealership.
Not only did my %#$@* cat steal the remote door opener, she also broke it.
>:( >:(
The tech could not re-program it.
:'(
Here is my question for Ask BK Day:
Dear BK,
Have you decided what the June Gardenia show is going to be?
This evening I'm seeing Harvey Fierstein and the lovely (and lovely to look at) Christopher Sieber in La Cage. The show closes on Sunday.
I'm up late because in the middle of the night I discovered I had one last short paper due for class and an online evaluation of the course. And they were due Friday. So, I wrote and wrote and finished that off. I hope I don't discover another little thing I didn't do.
Thanks for the birthday wishes DRs Sam and TCB!
Btw, re: DR Jose's 7:20pm bagel post. I'm curious do most DRs bagels look like those (very puffy)? Our bagels don't look like that. They aren't puffy.
The bus trip down this morning was relatively uneventful. There was some weird traffic coming out of the Holland Tunnel,

DR Cillaliz - I believe Rupert Holmes is "in house" today. A Time To Kill goes into tech this weekend, and then start previews next Saturday. Needless to say, I don't think I'll be running into him today.

Well, if you do, please tell him hello. Feel free to tell him you're the Jose I've been telling him about.
My question for ASK BK day.....do you ever buy a PowerBall or other lottery ticket?
Wasn't there an old SNL skit about a cat that drove a car? Toonces or something like that?that was it. Can't remember what season, but it was around the time of Robert Downey Jr.
The lineup for the Strouse show sounds great. "Rags" is a great score, so is "Dance a Little Closer,"even if the productions were not up to snuff.

Larry, you are going to have one hell of a memoir. And I, for one, can't wait for it!

Back from the chiropractor and do I ever feel better.
Of course just looking at the chiropractor could make one feel better, so handsome he is.

I'm about to start analyzing the Ballet, so...
I just need to not look at all those little black dots and lines for a few minutes.
I've picked up the tapes for The Fantasticks - what I was hoping for isn't in evidence - some sort of mixdown with all the final vocals. So, I don't think this is going to be possible, as I have no idea what vocals would have been used from the prerecords and live from the set. Plus, I'd have to do a complete mix and there's no way that expense would ever be justified with this release - I'm really not sure HOW many we could sell anyway.
Where in tarnation IS everyone?

Back from the eye doctor and $350 lighter with two pairs of glasses on the way. Not happy with the total, but I have put off going for a year, and with my diabetes, that isn't good.
It turned out to be a fun day.

He looks like a very unhappy Pepper!
I was helping price and wrap the donated books that we thought may have value. I actually came home with one of them. The guys in charge gave it to me. TCB would love it. IT's Sinking of the Titanic, The World'S Greatest Sea Disaster Official Edition published in 1912. It's in really good condition, except the pages are pretty brown now. I am VERY happy to have it
Thanks. It's got some great photos and great illustrations. It's way cool.8)
Yes. I need new glasses. I always need new glasses.Back from the eye doctor and $350 lighter with two pairs of glasses on the way. Not happy with the total, but I have put off going for a year, and with my diabetes, that isn't good.
I hope everything was ok with your eyes.

Congratulations. I hope you find your energy long before your trip.
What hotel are you staying at?
Sounds like a great day, Ginny!!It does.
The Fighter is a much better movie than I expected it would be. I liked it.It's crazy good.
Wednesday evening greetings! My sister and I had a nice day trip to Lansing today. We met Mary Linda and her Mom for lunch near their workplaces and they made a suggestion for a rehearsal dinner venue. After my sister did some genealogy work at the Michigan Archives and I toured the historical museum, I drove her out to see the reception venue and then we went to the rehearsal dinner place to meet Mary Linda. We all liked the space and decided over dinner that instead of a heavy sit-down dinner, we'll have a buffet of appetizers and sweets after the wedding rehearsal.
Back from the chiropractor and do I ever feel better.

Now I understand why my experience with a chiropractor was useless, mine wasn't good looking enough ;)

The problem wasn't the productions, it was the books! They stank.
The productions were quite lush and interesting.
I saw a production of RAGS at the late Coconut Grove Playhouse. It included If We Never Meet Again. Unfortunatly it was not sung in its entirity.
The problem with this production as I remember was the libretto as it was the original. This production elimanated characters and tried to focus on the core characters and streamline the various stories. I felt there were still too many characters and even though they tried to focus the stories instead of a kalidiscope of the imigrant experience the plot was slight
The score is still a standout.
Vibes to All in the paths of the many severe storms and tornadoes the past few days...
That would be a wow, even though it was directed by Elmore's favorite, Lonny Price. The lineup for the Strouse show sounds great. "Rags" is a great score, so is "Dance a Little Closer,"even if the productions were not up to snuff.

I still remember the chamber version of Rags that American Jewish Theatre presented back in 1991(!). The cast of 30 was cut down to 9(!), and the "orchestra" was cut down to a piano, a drum set (I think), and one of the actors playing clarinet (klezmer) during certain scenes and songs.
It starred Ann Crumb as Rebecca, and Crista Moore as Bella. The book had been majorly revised and evened out the stories of Rebecca and Bella, and was told from the viewpoint of Rebecca's son. It was far from perfect, but having Crista Moore sing "Rags", and Ann Crumb singing "Children of the Wind" just 10 feet from me... WOW!
And...

Elmores never forget. Or something like that. That would be a wow, even though it was directed by Elmore's favorite, Lonny Price.
Well... I believe the "1991" Lonny Price is quite different from the "2000->" Lonny Price. ;)
Rags 1991, cont'd...
And the young actor who played David (the son), Jonathan Kaplan, in that production, would then go on to play Jason in Falsettos the following season on Broadway.

I try to eat just a taste or two of something I shouldn't eat, which is largely the starches, especially pasta and rice. And since cutting back, things haven't been bad. I remember a food trip to New York about 12 years ago in which we ate five multi-course meals a day for five days. It was murder on the body. And while some of the food was very good, nothing was spectacular.Back from the eye doctor and $350 lighter with two pairs of glasses on the way. Not happy with the total, but I have put off going for a year, and with my diabetes, that isn't good.
DR JohnG - With the food-writing and reporting that you do, have you ever had to turn down an assignment due to your personal nutritional and health needs and concerns?
A friend of mine just gave up his rather extensive food-blogging and freelance restaurant reviewing since his "professional obligation" to eat "richly" on a regular basis was starting to be detrimental to his health.
The Fighter is a much better movie than I expected it would be. I liked it.
The tough-talking mother of nine, embodied so memorably by Oscar winner Melissa Leo in the boxing drama The Fighter, died Wednesday, a day after being taken off life support at a Boston hospital. She was 79 and had been in ill health for some time.
bk - Did you have access to a copy of the Vocal Selections from Rags? Both "Children of the Wind" and the title song are arranged as solo numbers.
