LIKE A CHICKEN WITH ITS HEAD CUT OFF
« on: July 18, 2005, 12:05:31 AM »

Well, you've read the notes, you've imagined a chicken with its head cut off, or even it's head cut off, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home with their heads cut off.  Isn't that a lovely image?

I remember the pastries from Gypsy's "You Gotta Have A Gimmick".

My fav pastry is a chocolate eclair.  It was all I could do to resist those tempting me from under the glass display counter at Jerry's Deli last night.  Yum!

I've always like the danish that Carrie Fisher wore as Princess Leia. ;)

I read an article about J. K. Rowling (author of the Harry Potter books) somewhere on the Internet earlier today which said that she's richer than the Queen of England!  Who'da thunk it??

I saw a film this evening, one of those silly summer movies, "The Wedding Crashers". I always sit through the credits, and was delighted to see a familiar name: Vincent Cirilli, Protools Engineer. bk, please send Vinnie my best.

Pastries--Chocolate eclairs, napoleons, profiteroles

Break a leg tonight, bk and Kevin!

I've finished with Saturday's posts!  Now for yesterday's (Sunday).

I will admit that during my errant and truantness, I was able to listen to Donald's Broadway Radio Show when BK talked about the new Kritzerland label and played selections from After the Ball and the new Guy Haines CD.  I can't wait to get them!!

And what in the world does polena have to do with pastries??  Sounds rather icky to me. :P ;)

Swinging On a Star (this was the very first show I ever saw on Broadway and it was wonderful!)

I, too, love a chocolate eclair.
Tonight,  my favorite chocolate cake from Tops (a shop of long standing for chocolate cake) is now with me and would be disappeared in two hours.  With five layers, with chocolate sponge and chocolate flavored whipped cream with deep roasted walnuts, covered with chocolate whip cream. It’s simple but sooooo delicious.

Today(about six hours to go) is National Oceans Day (a real national holiday)
It comes from…Our small land is surrounded by many different named oceans. And the rainy season is usually over around this day (the third Monday in July) every year, so we can go swimming in the ocean for a moment just before summery typhoons come.
However, I prefer to swim in a pool, as I hate to be bitten (stung?) by jellyfishes and that sands come inside of my swimwear.
Love to be on the beach under a parasol. 8)

Did you try Beard Papa's Puff when you're in NYC?

DRHisaka, I had one just last week, and quite tasty it was!  I think it's my current favorite pastry.

Good morning, all!  I have a lot of writing to do, so I'll be E&T most of the day.
This has been a weekend of very bizarre dreams.  Last night's involved Barbara Cook, but I think Judy Collins put in a guest appearance, a resort by a river, and a discussion of CANDIDE.  I'm going back to drugs.

I have two favorite pasteries,

An Eclair but it must have custard and not whip cream.

Now I know it as Mille Feuille. (I think I spelled it right) It translates as Thousand Flakes  Again it must have custard and not whip cream. But sure what it is called in the USA

Good morning DR's Michael s and Elmore. And it's goodnight from me.
Tonight's viewing was an Oz made movie called "Crackerjack". A re-viewing after a year or so and it is still very funny. I wonder if it was released in the USA. It is a good companion piece to "The Road To Nhill" made a few years back.

"it's" means it is. "its" is the possessive.

So it's a chicken with its head cut off.

I am back after a restful and relaxing time on Long Island. I was there from Wednesday through yesterday. We did have to help Anthony's mother with MacGregor. He's a West Highland terrier (for those of you who didn't know) and he has recently been diagnosed as diabetic. Well, the cataracts came on very quickly and his sight has deteriorated quickly. While we were in Centereach we went with Rose to the vet's office to get MacGregor checked out. He needs some tests to see if he is a candidate for cataract surgery and if so, sometime in the next month he will go in to have his sight restored.. Other than that it was a quiet, albeit somewhat rainy and muggy, time on LI. Last night we watched the DVD of A Star is Born w/Janet Gaynor and Frederick March. Quite nice.

I have read all the notes but I have not begun to read the posts from Wednesday through Sunday. That will take some time. I am caught up here though, which is good for me.

A nice cherry danish is a good thing.

Good Morning!

I'm up!  I'm up!

...And I have to head into town shortly...

...And the DC area is under a Heat Advisory until 6:00... TOMORROW night.  Ugh!

Those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer....

-Is that the correct order? "crazy, hazy, lazy"?  "hazy, crazy, lazy"?  ???

As for Pastries -

Cream Puffs - The Beard Papa ones are very good - I like the Green Tea Flavored ones.

...And anything made with pastry cream and almonds.

"Mille Feuille" translates - at least according to my culinary and French-language knowledge - as "thousand leaves" - due to all the layers in the puff-pastry.  The pic you posted looks like a Napoleon to me - although I know American pastry chefs have adapted that name for any sort of layered pastry.
