For Ask BK Day -

What are your least favorite movies from Hitchcock's Hollywood period onward?

The ones most people seem to dislike - TORN CURTAIN, THE PARADINE CASE, STAGE FRIGHT - I rather like.

I don't like (at all) UNDER CAPRICORN, and I have mixed-to-negative feelings about TOPAZ, MARNIE, FAMILY PLOT and SUSPICION.

I find the lengthy distribes and rationaizations about MARNIE's excellence to be especially amusing.

The only Hitchcock I find unwatchable and uninteresting is Under Capricorn.  I'm not fond of Suspicion, but I can tolerate it.  I have always liked Marnie, I'm afraid to say, but I liked it when no one else did, back on the day it opened (I saw it about six times).  I find Topaz an interesting failure, Frenzy has interesting bits, and Family Plot, perhaps the worst of his later films, is enjoyable on surface levels.  Torn Curtain is one I quite enjoyed as a teen - less so now, although I think the critical reaction to that film would have been completely different if the Herrmann score had made it into the film.

BK - My brother had a BMW for a year or two... Before all the "simple repairs" just started to add up and up and up.  He had to replace his whole back bumper after it was tapped in a parking lot.  He saw it happen, and it didn't think it was that bad a "tap".  But then realized that the whole back bumper had gotten pushed "in" and was coming back out again.

He had one of the sportier BMWs, and, apparently, in order to make them "sportier" and faster, they make the body of the car out of lighter and thinner material than usual.  He finally went back to a Toyota.

Oh... and I guess my complaint I filed against Intellius.com did get posted.  Glad to know it's helping people make an informed decision.

The singer who introduced "Carolina in the Morning" was none other than Mr William Frawley.

Ya know, I distinctly remember a Desilu Playhouse show where someone (Vivian Vance?) sang that song while ironing.  The hazy image is still floating about in my cranium.

DR vixmom - I checked the wire reports, there were no reports of an earthquake on Long Island the other night.  Must have been that hibachi rice you and the vixdad had at dinner earlier that night.

Hmm...

Well, I was going to do some things today, but...

Yesterday was just such a long day.  Rehearsal 10:00-1:00, then killing time until 6:00 for the sound check.  Then the show at 8:00... Well, more like 8:12.  Thankfully, the show runs only one hour and 53 minutes - with a 20 minute intermission.  So...

It was a good day yesterday, not a great one.

...And as long as I remember to look at the key signature tonight for one of my exposed solos... that acts as the intro for one of the soloists...  Let's just say I owe someone a case of beer.

...Oh, so I guess I'm not really going to do anything today... Well, that is at least until I have to head in for the show...

Hmm...

My favorite Hitchcock film to watch for the sheer FUN of it, is "The Trouble With Harry"!  It resonates for me on many levels.

Anybody here watch "Surface"?  It airs Monday nights on NBC.

I am pretty much taken with the show, except I'm getting a little tired of one of the storylines -- the family with the nerdy kid who stole a strange egg that hatched and was some form of lizard life that, currently, eats dogs.  It also immobilizes its prey with a shock.

Strange show, but it moves despite my tiring of that family.

"Commander in Chief" still works for me, too!  Last night's episode was pretty good, and Donald Sutherland is one of my favorite nasty villains ever!

I still have to watch "Medium", which I taped Monday evening.

And I'm eagerly anticipating tonight's airing of "Lost."

The previews are breathlessly enticing and promising.

I took a quart of Brunswick stew from my freezer this a.m. and will be having a nice bowl of it for lunch.

If I get productive, I may even make a pan of cornbread.

...But I did get to spend a few hours in the National Gallery of Art's Sculpture Garden on the Mall.  My first time there, and it was a perfectly perfect day to sit down on a comfy bench... look at some art... even take a nap.

It's part one of tree trimming - the gardeners are merrily trimming the yard and the side of the house.  In two weeks they do the front of the house.

I have 2 or 3 Marcy records. Not a puppet, per se, but a doll, voiced by the woman on the cover. Bizarre Christian ventriloquist records are not as rare as you might suppose.

My favorite Marcy song is called "When Mr. Satan Knocks at My Heart's Door."
