Title: THE NOT-TOO-TAXING RELAXING DAY

Well, you've read the notes, which were hopefully not too taxing, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're relaxing right now because coming home is too taxing at this time.

If it is indeed dear reader Jason's birthdya, then let us all send him a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer.  On the count of three: One, two three - A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER FOR DEAR READER JASON IF IT'S REALLY HIS BIRTHDAY AND IF IT IS REALLY HIS BIRTHDAY THEN WHY ISN'T IT ON THE OFFICIAL HAINESHISWAY.COM CALENDAR?

About well known actors doing commercials a topic from yesterday.

I have no problem with actors doing commercials afterall it is a job and it help pays the bills.

BUT sometimes I wonder about their choice(s) in commercial work. Is this the only product that they have been asked to shill?

BTW there were 504 ads from 1965 to 1989 putting Dick Wilson in the Guiness Book of Records for having the longest running (LIVE) character for TV commercials played by one actor.

Good morning Larry.

Good morning, Michael!  And good morning, all!  I have to work on an arrangement for Elaine Stritch and the New York City Gay Men's Chorus this morning before I make another go at the Mario Frangoulis charts.

DRGeorge, I love your new avatar.  Thank you.  I  thought your Carmen Miranda was a great Halloween avatar, but looking at it constantly, I couldn't take anything you wrote seriously.  However, I'm curious:  do you have photos of yourself in other performances?

It's been my observation that commercials are a nice income for actors if they can land a good national one.  I'm not sure if they particularly care what the work is if they're paid well for it.  Jason Graae's Western Union voiceover "Everybody needs some money some time" brought him several years of good income.  I used to call Rebecca the Tylenol Queen for her commercial, and I'm happy to see my friends are employed.

Ron Raines was paid a good sum to make a commercial in Japan, in which he sang quite nicely, but was it worthy of him?  I loved Alice Playten's Alka Seltzer commercials but was it worthy of her?   If I were John Lithgow, I'd be embarassed by the pitchy singing, and tacky design, writing and staging of the spot.  Encores! THE APPLE TREE might have been worthy of Ms Chenowith's talents, but I'm sure OldNavy made her agent a deal her agent couldn't resist.

TOD:  I've always preferred vocal over instrumental, so a lot of my favorite pieces are vocal, but let's see what stacks up.  I know I'll miss something I love:
SYMPHONIC:
Respighi:  Botticelli Pictures, Ancient airs & Dances, The Birds
Ravel:  Piani concerti, Valses Nobles et sentimentales
Dvorak:  cello concerto, Symphony No. 8
   Smetena:  Ma Vlast
   Tchaikovsky:  The Three Big Ballets
Elgar:  cello concerto, Enigma Variations, Cockaigne Overture
Copland:  Billy the Kid, Appalachian Spring, Rodeo
Handel:  Water Music, Royal Fireworks Music
   Berlioz:  Symphonie Fantastique
Saint-Saens:  organ concerto, the tone poems
   Stravinsky:  the ballets
   Bernstein:  Fancy Free, Divertimento
   Gershwin:  Piano concerto in F
SYMPHPONIC VOCAL:
   Ravel:  Scheherazade
Berlioz:  L'Enfance du Christ, Les Nuits d'Ete
Dvorak:  The Specter's Bride, Stabat Mater
   Copland:  Old American Songs
Britten:  Les Illuminations, Serenade for Tenor Horn & Strings, Spring Symphony
   Handel:  Messiah
   Bach:  Christmas Oratorio
   Bernstein:  Songbook
   Mozart:  Requiem, Masses
   Stravinsky:  Symphony of Psalms
   Poulenc:  Gloria
CHAMBER:
   Bach:  Brandenburg Concerti
Ravel:  Introduction and Allegro for Harp, etc.
   Borodin:  String Quartets
A lot of Mozart, Beethoven, Dvorak
OPERA:
Britten:  Peter Grimes, Albert Herring, The Beggar's Opera, Midsummer Night's Dream
Mozart:  Don Giovanni, Le Nozze di Figaro
   Bizet:  Carmen
   Beethoven:  Fidelio
Verdi:  Falstaff, La Traviata, Il Trovatore, Rigoletto
   Offenbach:  Tales of Hoffmann
Menotti:  The Telephone, The Medium, Amahl and the Night Visitors
Puccini:  Turandot, La Boheme, Il Trittico, Tosca
   Gershwin:  Porgy and Bess
   Dvorak:  Rusalka
   Smetena:  The Bartered Bride
   Stravinsky:  The Rake's Progress, Oedipus
   Humperdinck:  Hansel and Gretel
   Rossini:  The Barber of Seville
   Tchaikovsky:  Eugene Onegin, Pique Dame
   Ravel:  L'Enfant et les sortileges
   Saint-Saens:  Samson and Delila

And that's enough!

DRFJL, Schubert's "Trout Quintet" is called so because the theme and variations movement, which was the original title music for the Tim Daly series WINGS, is based on a song by Schubert, "die Forelle" or The Trout.  What is it, fish?  Yep!

How could I have forgotten Kurt Weill's two great operas, The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny and Street Scene, Berg's Wozzeck, and Weinberger's Schwanda the Bagpiper?

Or, in symphonic, Kodaly's Hary Janos?  Duh!

Wonderful choices, DRELMORE!

I will only add a vote for Copland's Rodeo and Billy the Kid.

I also enjoy Carl Orff's Carmina Burana.

As for obscure....Edward MacDowell is an interesting early 20th Century composer who did some very nice piano work.

It may not be officially DR Jason's b.d., but, I am baking cake today!  Friday was my dear friend Roseanna's b.d., so I'm cooking her an enormous dinner, which we shall dine upon around 7:30 tonight. (Triple Chocolate Fudge cake, btw.  Oh! and Bountiful Beer Bread must be baked as well).
In the SIX DEGREES department - KISS KISS BANG BANG was written and directed by Shane Black, correct?  Well, Pat Black, Shane's mother and my mother graduated high school together!  I see Ms. Black often as I am the official chronicler, secretary and wordsmith for the West Deer Class of 1952.

I like Marc Blitzstein's REGINA.
I also like Robert Wilson's/Philip Glass' EINSTEIN ON THE BEACH.
I think it was Adams who wrote NIXON IN CHINA, or whatever that thing is called.

Is Eduoard Lalo 20th century?  I'm very fond of his music.
(Has anyone else heard Vadim Repin play the Spanish Symphony?)

Thank you, DRJRand55!  How goes your Frangoulis listening?  I just got yesterday his "Follow Your Heart" CD, which I will play today.

Edward MacDowell is the subject of a wonderful novel by Doris Grumbach, CHAMBER MUSIC, which I highly recommend.

I cannot believe I forgot Carmina Burana!  When I first knew the piece it was still rather obscure, but now its "O Fortuna" is used in every other movie commercial where the music is not set.  Still, Orff's composition is quite a thrilling visceral experience.

Good Morning!

Well... Time for me to get into my motor car and head up to NYC.  And it looks like a very nice day for a drive.  Hopefully, the traffic will be nice too.

And I shall call the requisite parties once I'm back up in the city to see if anyone would like to sup this evening.

As for the topic of the day....  What immediately comes to mind are:

Debussy: Most of the piano works, especially the "Preludes" and "Etudes" (Mitsuko Uchida's recording on Philips of the Etudes is simply delicious!)
Beethoven: The Piano Sonatas - I'm partial to the middle period ones.  Some of those late ones can get just a bit too cerebral for me at times.
Ravel: The piano works, especially the "Miroirs" suite.
Barber: The vocal works - the songs.  And it's been mentioned many a time, but "Knoxville: Summer of 1915" has to be one of the most perfect pieces of music.  Simply beautiful.

And that's all I have time for now...
Title: Re:THE NOT-TOO-TAXING RELAXING DAY
Post by: JoseSPiano on November 13, 2005, 07:21:48 AM
...And the theme for "Wings" eventually went on to become based on a theme from Schubert's Piano Sonata in G (or was it B-Flat?).

Very well, thank you.  I am thinking that I shall also purchase Follow Your Heart.  Sometimes I Dream is a very NICE CD!  Mine is enhanced so it has the video for Vincero, Perdero which I haven't watched yet.

Commercials ARE a great way for working actors to pay bills between gigs. And sheer heaven would be finding a commercial (as Ann Miller did with the Great American Soups ad) that showcased her talent as well as providing income.

Alas, I guess those are few and far between.

Favorite classical pieces (most, but not all, have been mentioned):

Beethoven: Symphony no. 9 "The Choral Symphony"
Bernstein: Fancy Free
Bizet: Carmen
Britten: Turn of the Screw (I saw this at the Vancouver Opera and it was one of the most incredible opera productions that I had experienced)
Copland: Rodeo
Gershwin: Piano concerto in F, Porgy and Bess
Glass: Einstein on the Beach, Akhnaten, Satyagraha (Satyagraha is my favorite of the three)
Orff: Carmina Burana (when I was at Western Washington University, we performed this with all the choirs and orchestras of Western, as well as with the Whatcom Choral Society and the local community orchestra.  Heidi Grant Murphy had just graduated from Western the year before and came back to sing the soprano part.  It was incredible!)
Ravel: Bolero
Sondheim: Sweeney Todd ;)
Domenico Scarlatti: Sacred Choral Works (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00005RYE5/qid=1131906857/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl15/102-6738108-7460936?v=glance&s=classical&n=507846) (I'm on this CD!!)

You can't read it on the picture on Amazon.com, but this was performed by the Western Washington University Concert Choir under the direction of Dr. Robert Scandrett.  I was in the choir and we recorded this CD over a weekend in May of 1989 at Western's concert hall.  It was quite the experience!

Actually, DRGeorge, I think SWEENEY TODD is the best american opera written in the past 40 years.  I cannot stand Phillip Glass, however; his music, and Steve Reich's, makes me quite jittery and irritated.

I've always enjoyed the "pop" take on classics.
I guess Conniff's "Concert In Rhythm" introduced me to a few Classical themes.

I play the Waldo De Los Rios "Classics"  quite often and also have a James Last collection of similar themes.

I even have the Cd of "B Bumble & the Stingers" rocking up the classics, and of course the "Kokomo" collection.

Good Afternoon!

Greetings from New York City!

It was a perfect day for a drive - cool weather, clear skies, and there was still some nice fall foliage to look at along the way.  There was a very brief spot of traffic, but, again, it was very brief.  The only "weirdness" was when I went to fill up my tank at one of the service stations along the turnpike.  Since they are refurbishing a couple of the gas stations, the turnpike is now three gas stations "short".  So, this means that the remaining stations are getting a bit more business than usual.  Thankfully, all the pumps were manned and opened.  *And at least the New Jersey Turnpike authority put lots of warning signs up along the way: "No Fuel Service Between Exits 4 and 8" - or something like that.

...But I'm here.

...And I do have to say that there were some tears shed when I said Goodbye to my aunt this morning.  I hope she has/had a good flight back to Los Angeles this morning.  -And I hope she and my parents managed to fit all the "stuff" into her luggage.  Clothes, souvenirs, pictures, small appliances (a new hand blender (an Oster 6-speed, with retractable cord) a.k.a. my present to her), and... drumroll please... About two dozens cooked crabs packed in a stryofoam cooler with some dry ice - don't ask.  -Since I don't have the answer.

On the TOD:

Debussy has been my favorite classical composer for a long time now and "Reverie" and "Clair de Lune" are my two favorites by him.

But I like lots of classical music and can listen to just about any of it and find pleasure.

On the subject of opera, I know only a limited amount. I've only seen four classic operas "in the flesh," and of those, Bizet's CARMEN has always been my favorite.

In interviews I've read, Sondheim himself has resisted the label of opera for SWEENEY TODD, but it certainly has been done in opera houses all over the world. If it's not an opera, then I guess my favorite "Broadway opera" would be PORGY AND BESS. I am quick to say, however, that I've never heard REGINA or any of the Minotti operas that played Broadway.

Or Massachusetts! ;)

I have to leave (after just popping in) to usher for SOGO (http://www.studentorchestras.org/), which stands for "Student Orchestras of Greater Olympia."  It should be quite interesting...but since I'm not really interested in orchestral or instrumental music, I won't find it interesting.  But a lot of people do, and that's okay, too! :D

After doing some DVD dubs for some folks, I settled in making a DVD dub for myself, THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN. There was some speckling on the print TCM used for broadcast, but the DVD will be more than acceptable until a commercial one comes along. Heck, it might be the same master used for the commercial DVD!

I can imagine snooty film critics of the period looking down on this film, but it's a wonderful adventure and very moving, too.

I am just about footaged out - what a way to waste a Sunday - and it's HARD to choose clips - they have to be short and sweet and so one must search through each DVD for those moments.  And then there's the problem of the fact that I don't seem to have certain DVDs that I thought I did, like American Graffitti and From Here To Eternity, and The In-Laws.  So, tomorrow I'm going to have to go find those, along with a few others that I would never buy if it weren't for this clip reel.

Well, I started with putting on the 3 storm windows I needed to put on. I washed them before they went up, of course, so you know what that means....all the rest of the windows looked dirty.   It's a nice day, so I washed all the windows.

I didn't get hat done before winter last year and was very sorry all winter that I hadn't.  I had one neighbor stop to tell me what I was doing was futile, that there would be streaks and they would just get dirty again. That's a pretty dismal way to look at things....

I managed to break a cheap bookcase while trying to get a window off
that has been painted shut for who knows how long but I was bound and determined to get it clean. It's clean and now I need a new book case....

Evening all!

The 2nd dog house was a big hit!  I looked out this morning and Brandi was sleeping away on her new memory foam pad in her new house.

I had a very good sleep last night with many dreams.  One of them was about all of us being at a house that I used to live in when I was younger.  Some kind of party/gathering.  Here was the kicker.  It wasn't MY house-- for some reason it belonged to none other then BK!  Now BK, why did you buy my old house?     :)

Whew... just caught up on posts, as yesterday was a day of doing various errands and consoling (a.k.a. drinking with) a friend who just got fired from a show.  DH Noel and I have spend the day watching "Lost", which we got from NetFlix yesterday.  We are officially junkies:  We have already watched the first SEVEN episodes and are about to watch number 8 (Confidence Man), and who knows how long we'll be able to make it until the next fix.  This show was certainly NOT what I expected, in a good way!  I love how they didn't start with the plane crash and show you the whole thing right away, but instead give you little bites at a time.  I almost fell off the couch at the end of the "Walkabout" episode.  Wow, that was brilliant!

Well, if DH Noel will get off the phone, we can start the next exciting installment of "Lost"!

Of course, I don't know what we'll do when we've watched all of this season and it's too late to catch up with the current season... shudder... but I can't think about that right now.  I must get my fix!

My birthday is, indeed, one week from yesterday. Sorry for the corn-fusion, BK. But thank you for the early wishes. :)

I absolutely must do my laundry today if I expect to have any underwear for tomorrow. I'll be back...

I remember when "Don't get Corn fused" was an ad slogan.  I think for Corn Flakes if memory serves.

Also from the posts I'm trying to get caught up on,  we had several family sayings.  One I can't post with this being a family site (but I will tell you if you really want to know via email or PM ).  Anyway we were waiting for a bed to be delivered but it was late.  My Mom called to ask the sales guy where it was.  He told her, "Patience, my Love.  Patience."  That cracked us up and we still tell that to one another when the other is in a hurry to get someplace.

I want my Mom to get caught up with the show.  We didn't have Tivo until this past summer so it was on to late for her.  She likes it but having missed so much, things don't make sense to her.

I was very privileged to be hand-picked to be part of a small Master Class taught by Roy Harris.  It was rather amazing for me because I was a sophomore and most of the people in the class were graduate students, but my Theory teacher thought very highly of me and had heard some of my nascent piano pieces, so he got me in.  Roy was rather old, but he talked a lot about modes and his Third Symphony and his wife (Katherine?  am I remembering that correctly?) wowed us with her piano playing.  Roy would call out a composer and piece and Katherine would just lay into it, no holds barred.  It was a great experience.  I still remember him comparing various modes to different colors, acid-head that he must have been.   ;D

So many wonderful composers, so little time--these just off the top of my head:

Ralph Vaughan Williams:  pretty much anything, but especially the 4th symphony
Prokofiev:  pretty much anything, but especially the 5th symphony (most especially as conducted by Ormandy)
Faure:  Requiem
Durufle:  Requiem (oy, I'm getting depressed)
Ravel:  Mother Goose, Le Tombeau de Couperin
Brahms:  any/all, but the 4th conducted by Walter can not be topped.  The recent reconstructions of the original, smaller symphony orchestrations are very interesting, if not quite as grandiose as the ones we're all used to hearing

For those who like Copland/Harris, I highly recommend former University of Utah Composer in Residence Ned Rorem, who has written some great chamber music, notably his Water Music.

And just to be a little outre, I think Frank Zappa's orchestral/chamber stuff is the equal of Varese's (Edgard that is, not Sarabande ;) ).

Also in the Early Music category:

Hildegard von Bingen (or Von Bingy-Wingy as we refer to her 'round these parts).  I even like the trance/dance re-do's of her stuff by former University of Utah dude Richard Souther (what are all these plugs for the U of U--you'd think I went there or something).  ;)

Sequentia, featuring (yep, you guessed) former U of U player Dana Maiben, whose brother William taught composition at the University of Washington and is a great undiscovered genius (he's also a little crazy--mostly in a good way--which may have something to do with it).  ;)

Pan, who do some interesting recreations of early theater pieces, a la the Feast of Fools.

OK, that's enough for now.  I should go look at my CD cases, that will really get me started on a frenzy.   ;D

I can make it all the way up to the point where she says "And I think I'll miss you most of all." to the Scarecrow.  Then I burst into tears and stay that way until "And Oh, Auntie Em, There's no place like HOME!".  My Dad used to tease me about that.  When "Oz" came on once a year he called it my "annual cry".   :D

A very nice pairing would be Bernstein's Chichester Psalms with Steve Reich's Tehillim.  They are both incredibly lovely and lyrical.  I believe I have shared my anecdote about the opening major seventh voicing of Chichester causing an epileptic woman to have a Grand Mal seizure at a concert I attended.  It was a moment.

Back from our lovely Montgomery Inn dinner to celebrate DH Richard's birthday (thanks for the wishes, all).  I stopped at Half-Price Books and this is what I bought:

Books:  I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith and a Quality Paperback Book Club edition of 3 Dawn Powell novels

CDs:  The Sondheim Songbook, Broadway's Fair Ladies, and Wynton Marsalis' In Gabriel's Garden

Then I got tangled up in road closures and detours out in rural Butler County, but made it home safely.

I love the Chicester Psalms. I did a report on them in undergrad school.

I got some farily exciting news from a woman at work who's looking out for my acting career. She arranged the tickets for me for Lea Salonga's concert through the director, Richard Jay Alexander. He's the director who has basically put people into LES MISERABLES for the last twenty years. Anyway, she told me she'd be happy to set up an audition with him if I heard of any auditions for the show. And we just recently heard that LES MIZ is most likely going out on a non-Eq. tour next year... :D Keep your fingers crossed...

DR Jason - That's cool!

Just remember, the proper "layout" of his name is "Richard Jay-Alexander".  -Notice the hyphen.  He was in many an audition room when I would play for friends who were auditioning for Les Miserables.

We actually saw him the night we saw Suzanne Somers debacle.  He was sitting down the row from us in the center of the mezzanine, and he happened to be talking with Elinore O'Connell outside on the sidewalk after the show.  -She was in shock after the show.  -And she was also the Fantine in the L.A. company of Les Miserables.  -And she was in my cast of Side By Side By Sondheim about 15 years ago.  -Yikes!  It has been that long!  WOW!

-And when I saw him there, I was wondering if he was being brought in as a possible show doctor.  Remember, Jerry Mitchell was there that night too.  -Now wouldn't that have been interesting?

The World Will End Tonight on CBS!!!!  Don't forget to watch!  Gina Gershon is in it!  Maybe she will say her famous line from SHOWGIRLS: "You're a whore, darlin'!"

Speaking of the end being near, I remember one time I was in the grocery check out line.  The headline on one of the rag newspapers stated that world was going to end that week or weekend (can't remember which).

I asked the check out girl if I should put my groceries back and come back later 'cause we all know that the Enquirer wouldn't lie!

Of course, I can't explain why we are all here now.   :D

Some of the regular customers where I work have hell toupees.  And there's lousy dye jobs aplenty out there, too!

And lots of women who need Rogaine.

DR JRand, DR Danise is the one with the new doghouse; I'm the one who'll be in the doghouse at work if I take my GrantRant public  :-X

Went to a lovely partay at the Pogues.  Back now, but must have a little production meeting, and then it's back to viewing another five or six DVDs.  Then, tomorrow someone will be buying about eight more DVDs for me to view on Tuesday.  Then I'll have everything ready to be digitized for putting together the clip reel.

She wasn't a big star but she did have the lead in TEEN AGE CRIMEWAVE and was in a Bomba the Jungle Boy movie!

:D I've just made plane reservations for DH Richard and me for our 25th wedding anniversary week in NYC!  We'll arrive on Monday, January 16 and stay until Sunday, January 22.  DR Danise, I'm pretty sure we'll see some snow!

DH Richard, who has not flown since 1994, was watching over my shoulder as I was online making our reservations and selecting our seats and everything.  He said, "Wow, this must be why the travel agents are going out of business!"

DR Ginny - I LOVE New York City in January.  It's always been my favorite time to go.  It's sort of neat watching the city slow down a little due to the cold, wind, snow, slush, etc.  And there's nothing like walking down Broadway from 103rd to Times Square - Natural Dermabrasion!

And the hotel rates get silly low!  My favorite place to stay, The Skyline Hotel, has offered their nice, big room for as low as $75/night!  And they'll even throw in the parking sometimes!

Well...

Nothing like a couple of hands of Uno... And a couple of blender-fuls of pina coladas to help pass the evening.

...I do believe I'm a bit tipsy.

Enjoyed another hour of DIE HARD but still have almost an hour left of it to watch. For a change, NFL football didn't run over on CBS so shows started at their regularly scheduled times.

KISS KISS BANG BANG is another film that I do want to see. I hadn't heard a lot about it, but read a couple of "preview" rundowns, and it sounded like loads of fun. It's not playing at a theater near me at the moment, so I think I might wait a week or so to see if any of the theater chains shift movies around to one that's closer. They often do this as new movies come out the following week, and since HARRY POTTER will be taking up multiple screens at all these cineplexes come next weekend, the chances of its being moved somewhere else are very good.

COLD CASE had another off night, I thought, with a case involving the murder of a young dot com executive. So far this season, I haven't been able to watch every week due to NFL football games running long, but of the three or four shows I have seen that are new this season, none has matched the emotional impact of the best cases from the last two years.

DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES. Well, my favorite Richard Burgi had a major part to play tonight, and I flipped for him all over again. Love him. And Teri Hatcher was better tonight than she's been all season, I thought: more real, more identifiably human and less a frenzied cartoon character.

How much longer can George get away with the things he's doing? Going beyond satire to absurdity.

Still don't like the Applewhite's storyline but perhaps now it's going to pick up.

Nice to see Alex Mapa as Gabrielle's dress consultant.

As for ROME, well, let's just say that even GLADIATOR wasn't as graphically explicit as ROME was tonight in the arena sequence. I was wincing and turning away every few seconds. My, oh, my, can they make these slaughters real today or what?
Title: Re:THE NOT-TOO-TAXING RELAXING DAY

Since I was able to watch ROME tonight and erase it from the DVR, that leaves only BIRTH on the DVR to be watched.

That means after I finish DIE HARD tomorrow, I should be able to get to MYSTERIOUS SKIN tomorrow and will post my feelings about it after I've seen it.

DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES SPOILERS FOR TONIGHT'S SHOW.

I don't really care for Richard Burgi, and was not really that fond of Teri Hatcher's story tonight. Although for once she did seem much more level-headed and less loopy.

Really dislike Alfre's story. Not at all interesting still.

Don't really like George either.  But am liking Bree a lot more lately. Loved the scenes with her and Gabrielle.

Lynnette's storyline was okay, sort of amusing.  I think tonight I enjoyed Gabrielle's the most, especially since she got the cliffhanger ending.

I still wish they would show all the women together more. I liked seeing the women (minus Lynette) eating ice cream!  And Bree was pretty funny, as usual.

One WUSSBURGER WITH CHEESE, signing off.

Goodnight.

People come, people go, like Grand Hotel.

I must now put my brain into staging land - I must sit in the Jacuzzi and start visualizing my opening number, which I'll be staging tomorrow at six.  I have the opening somewhat figured out, but once we're past the first chorus and I have to start bringing the entire cast into it, then I just have to figure out patterns and blocking areas.

Once I've got it all up on its feet, if I feel the need, then a choreographer will be coming in to smooth it out.

DR DearReaderLaura - Maybe I missed it...  But what was it that had the potential to make this weekend a "train-wreck weekend"?  -If you care to share.

The minister had planned an entire weekend's worth of activities trying to get the neighborhood to come and hear a mediocre Hispanic band. The result was that one person came because he thought we were doing a free car wash -- and left when it wasn't. Expensive, time consuming, and useless -- as I knew it would be. He was rather humble this morning.

For the first time since July of '04, I am not in production, rehearsal, or even pre-production for a show!  No scripts to memorize, no characters to develop and inhabit, no rehearsals to drag myself to -- in other words, I officially no longer have a life.

No posts in over an hour.  What a revoltin' development this is.  Skammen.  Nothing but WUSSBURGERS.  Not even WUSSBURGERS but WUSSBURGERS WITH CHEESE.  When did we become a site on namby-pamby sleepyheads who WUSSBURGER out before ten o'clock my time?  We used to have fun and late-night sprees, and it was all just too too.

Who am I talking to?  I'm the only one in the jernt.  I shall now take my sweet time writing the notes, and when they'll be posted is anyone's guess.
