Well, you've read the notes, you've savored the notes, and now it is time to post until the cows come home, for if you don't you most assuredly will be in hot water.

Welcome six GUESTS.  We're talkin' about hot water.

The TOD is easy for me to answer. The most annoying and disruptive thing that has ever happened to my home environment was when those pesky Russian soldiers tried to burn it down. That was very annoying. And most definitely disruptive.

Then there was the time in Boulder when I kept putting off cleaning the leaves from roof gutters (I think that's the term). There was a huge rainstorm and the water had nowere to go but straight down and in through the basement window. The basement was where DD had her room and it was totally flooded. I was all alone at the time. DD was away somewhere and it was the middle of the night. I had to find someone to come out and diagnose the problem (I didn't know where the deluge was coming from), then I had to go to an all night supermarket and rent one of those water pickeruper vacuum things to get a headstart on the drying. In the morning I finally found someone to come out and start the long job of drying out the basement. And, of course, I had to move everything by myself before those people came out. Did I mention how bad it smelled?
I think the Russians were easier.

Then there was the time when my mother decided that she would buy a big house in Toronto and we would live on the ground floor and she would rent out rooms on the other two floors. One of the roomers - a Mr. McIntosh - robbed the store where he worked (okay, he wasn't a Mensa member). The police came and had a stakeout at the house, waiting for him to show up. That was very annoying and disruptive. Believe it or not, he DID show up. Late at night. Guess he figured the police all go home after 10. Did I mention he wasn't a Mensa member?

Good Evening!  Good Morning!

I'm back from the post-show supper that BK mentioned in the notes.  What a nice time.  And it truly was a very nice and unexpected - and very generous - surprise when DR Michael Shayne's friend, Gabriel, picked up the check.  Thank You, DFofDR (Dear Friend of Dear Reader)!

Despite some page-turn trauma tonight - which, thankfully, was not too noticeable (to most people at least) ;) - I had a pretty good show tonight - as did the rest of the cast.  It was a great audience.  And in yet another "small world" coincidence, a friend of mine from college happened to be in the audience tonight.  He was just coming to see the show to see the show, and noticed my name in the program when he got there.  I actually ran into him before the show when I went out in the hall on my way to the bathroom.  I saw this attractive guy - ;) - and suddenly he said, "Jose?"... "Hey, it's Charles from VCU!" -And our mini-reunion started there.  He then introduced me to his wife - ah, well ;) - and then it was time to get ready to start the show.  Charles moved out here a couple of years ago.  Wonderful singer - tenor - and he just finished a run a new musical that was running at a theatre just up the street.  And, as I mentioned, he's very nice looking too.

Also in attendance tonight was my friend, Chris, and some friends of his.  Chris is the one who produced the audio for the "Coming Attractions" sequence, and this was his first time seeing the show.  Hopefully, we'll be able to get together on Sunday or Monday and grab a bite to eat or something.  We haven't seen each other since I "moved out" of his place a couple of weeks ago.

Well, that's about it... Oh, as I unpacked my laptop tonight, I realized that I had left my mouse at Kinko's - I had gone there to print out some stuff before the show.  Well... It was starting to die anyway, so, I guess that's me "permission" to by a new one.  -Although I'll probably go back tomorrow and check to see if it's still there.  In the meantime, my touchpad doesn't seem to acting up too much.

As for household inconveniences...  When Steve and I had our apartment on Grove Ave., we had a leaking roof problem on and off for about a year and a half.  They would come and fix it, but then the water would eventually find another path into our apartment.  The worst was when it started leaking quite heavily due to the ice and snow that was melting on the roof.  It was about a week after Christmas, and as we were getting to go to bed, we started hearing all this water... Well...  After the initial deluge stopped - and we had taken every spare towel out of the closet and hamper - we just ended up taking down our Christmas trees (we had two small ones since we didn't have the space for one big one) while we made sure the water was just down to a trickle.  And there were a few nights when a storm would start in the middle of the night, and we'd be awakened by the drip, drip, drop of the water coming in via the window casing.

I did have to deal with my water being shut off once due to some repairs being made to the water main, but, thankfully, I was able to use the showers in the dressing rooms up at school, so that wasn't too bad.

And I vaguely remember the time when my family lived in New London, CT, - I was about nine years old - when the septic tank overflowed.... Ewwww....

Some years ago, not long before we had moved into this house, I turned on the shower one morning to have it fill with sand and not water!

The plumber thought he had been called out to a candid camera stunt.  Water pipes under the concrete slab on which the house was built, had ruptured and were drawing up the bedding sand.  New pipes had to be installed to bypass the old ones which could not be reached without destroying the concrete foundation of the house.  Fortunately for us, all the piping was down one side of the house only.
Also fortunate was the fact that we have kind and understanding neighbours with a spare bathroom at the end of the house nearest us - and an exterior door to that part of the house so mimimal disruption was caused.

Our greatest fear in this semi rural area is bushfires. The last fires through here wiped out much of the village and many of the neighbouring homes.

TOD:

Hot Water is an appropriate title for my house destruction story.

When I was a teenager, during the mid 1980s, my parents and I would go on many weekend trips.  One particular Memorial Day weekend (1985 I believe), we came home to discover that the inside hot water heater (located in the kitchen/foyer) had burst.  Over half of the house was flooded!  I will never forget the feeling I had when we entered the house.  All of the wall-to-wall carpeting had been ruined.  After the accident, my parents decided to have wooden floors with oriental rugs instead.

The biggest change?  The water heater is now located outside.

My disruptive horror story happened during my first year of retirement. I was playing Bob Cratchit in SCROOGE and the director had booked me, my "show wife," and my "show children" in various venues around town to do PR for the show (which worked - we didn't play a single performance to an empty seat). Anyway, it was during this very busy time that my central heat decided to die - the coldest December on record in Charlotte. My house is well insulated so the first night, the house kept its heat fairly well, and I could sleep under an electric blanket and not freeze to death, but after the heating company came in and said it couldn't be replaced until Monday (this was Friday), that meant a weekend of either sleeping in my own bed or availing myself of kindly friends who offered their homes to me. I tried one more day and night - the worst I think I have ever spent. The house was 40 degrees, and during the day I would sit in front of a space heater wrapped up to keep warm. My bathroom has a heater built in the wall so I could take a shower and not freeze when I got out. So, I lived that day and night in the bathroom, the den where the space heater was, and my bedroom where the electric blanket was (and I still slept in a sweat shirt and sweat pants that night).

Kicker is that the workmen didn't finish the job on Monday, and it wasn't completed and heat back on until Tuesday. And living on a pension, I was VERY unhappy to have to fork out this huge sum of money for a new system. And, wouldn't you know, my central air conditioning system ALSO had to be replaced that summer. So both major systems had to be replaced within a year of my retiring. My bank account was as inconvenienced as I was.

Among the DVDs I got for my birthday were THE SPY WHO CAME IN FROM THE COLD, THE NAME OF THE ROSE, and LOST IN LA MANCHA. Unless DARBY O'GILL makes an appearance today, I suspect one of those will be going into the player tonight.

This afternoon, I'm helping a friend get his computer back up and running, and then we'll have an afternoon by the pool. Today is supposed to be our last nice day for awhile with Hurricane Frances' rain spilling over into our area a little bit.

I have a friend who's ridiculously wealthy. Here's one example of how she deals with disruptions.

Minor renovations were underway in her home. So the only sensible thing to do was to move the family into a suite at the posh Prince Hotel. She told her daughter they'd be "camping out" for a month.

C'est la vie!

Hmmmmmmmmmm....what a delightful dinner was had by all the What If! celebrities and guests!

Hmmmmm....oh DRJANE....the song that DancingPaul uses is "Tall Paul" (among others) by our favorite friend Miss Annette Funicello Gilardi Holt.

Disruptions...many....but the major one recently was when we were having French Doors installed in the kitchen to go out to the patio.  First we had to finish the wall and close off the laundry room....we then opened a wall in the bathroom that made the laundry room part of it.

Holly the dog finally learned that she had to go through the bathroom to get to the back door....after a few days of trying to get into the cabinet where the door had previously been located....then the French doors were installed (week of waiting for a new door to replace a broken one, huge hole in the wall, plastic and visqueen covers).

Then Holly would go through the bathroom and try to get into the closet where the back door was previously located.  Eventually she figured out she could use the French doors, and in fact they had windows low enough so that she could see outside!

In referring yesterday to DARBY O'GILL, someone yesterday asked if this was the movie with Sean Connery and Walter Brennan. Well, Sean Connery is certainly the star, but Walter Brennan is not in this film. You're probably confusing it with Disney's later fantasy with Walter THE GNOME-MOBILE.

When my ex and I were still together, we sequentially purchased a number of fixer-uppers, fixed-'em-up--living in the houses as they were remodeled--and then moved on to the next one.  As a result, there's a significant portion of my life during which my "kitchen" consisted of a microwave oven and a coffeemaker (and nothing else) in a bathroom.

I have on NPR which is broadcasting an Opera in English program. I now know why opera shouldn't be sung in English (unless it was written in English to begin with - Britten, for example). The reason it shouldn't be sung in English is that you can't understand what they're saying anyway, so it just becomes an exercise in frustration. If it's in Italian, you don't expect to understand it, so you can relax. Plus Italian or French or German sounds better. Carmen in English? Naw. Give me unintelligible pretty sounds with surtitles and I'm happy.

THE DAILY LEVITY

Three priests were in a railroad station on their way home to Pittsburgh.

Behind the ticket counter was a very sexy, shapely, well endowed woman wearing a very tight, skimpy sweater. She made the three priests very nervous, so they drew straws to determine who would get the tickets.

The first priest approached the window. "Young lady, I would like three pickets to titsburg." He completely lost his composure and fled.

The second priest goes to the window. "Young lady, I would like three tickets to Pittsburgh and I would like the change in nipples and dimes."
Mortified, he too fled.

"Morons...." the third priest mutters and moves to the window. "Young lady, I would like three tickets to Pittsburgh and I would like the change in
nickels and dimes. And, if you insist on dressing like that, when you get to the pearly gates, St. Finger's going to shake his Peter at you."

They took a bus.

My biggest home inconvenience was a few months after we bought our house. The AC went out, I was expecting the first baby, and was working free-lance, so that if I didn't work, I didn't get paid. Temperatures in June in Arizona easily get to 110+.

The AC was covered under a home warranty, so I had to call the warranty company for repairs. They said they were too busy, so leave my name and phone number and they would call me back to get information about the problem. No matter how many times I called, that was the response I got. I had to turn down jobs for FOUR DAYS, waiting for them to call back. (This was in the days before cell phones.)

Finally, I called our real estate agent, who called the seller's real estate agent, and she must have given that warranty company what-for, because she called me back and said a repairman would be there in the morning. The repair was covered -- $100 -- but we figured my not working for that week cost us about $500.

When the warranty company called to get us to renew the warranty contract a couple months later, I respectfully declined.

BK, for your information:

When going through my mother's things, I found a contract for termite treatment from a major national chain. She had paid $1600 for treatment and $200 per year for the warranty (beginning the year after the treatment).

When I had my house treated, I found a local company that charged $700 and no yearly fee for the ten-year guarantee.

So when you have the termites treated, check around for the best deal. They used Termidor, which only required exterior drilling -- you certainly don't want them to drill in your beautiful wood floors!

Hey thanks very much to DRs Jane and RLP for their rosee sauce links.

And DR Jane, still no luck with the double mattress.  However I did find the bill for the last one.  So there is a bit of info on that.

I have looked online.  I will keep looking.  I think I will have more luck there.

Originally I was trying to find places in Canada or that would ship to Canada.  But now I will just look for any place in the US, and worry about the shipping details later.  I can always have it shipped to someone else first.

I did find one place (e-waterbeds or something like that).  And they show doubles listed. Only thing is their doubles are 54' X 84 and my bed is '54 X 74). But at least I am getting closer.

I will take out all the remaining water either today or tomorrow. And my sis will bring over my dad's air mattress that she "borrowed".  So I will try to sleep on that in the meantime.

Also once the water is out, I will fill it with air (apparently that is how you find exactly where the leak is).

Oh how fun.

T.O.T. D.

Back on January 20, 1993, as Bill Clinton was taking his Oath of Office for the first time, we, here in the Northwest, suffered a severe windstorm that became known as the Inaugural Day Storm (I still blame the Republicans).  I was without electricity for five days.  Fortunately, it was not the coldest winter we had experienced, and the temperature managed to stay above freezing during the nighttime hours (although barely).  The best news of all, at that time, was I discovered that cheap jug wine could be served at room temperature without spoiling the kick.  I don't remember a lot of those five days!

That was the same year that I checked myself into treatment!

Bruce, we at least have hot water but it smells REALLY bad.  Recently we had new hot water heaters installed with special plumbing to reduce the normally odd smell of our well water.  The smell of this water first thing in the morning makes me gag.

This is of course not the worst thing that has ever happened.  We have moved so many times and renovated so often I need to think about which of the experiences was the worst-there were so many of them.

None of them match someone trying to burn the house down.  I started a couple of fires when I was young but put them out quickly before anyone knew about it.

I received an email from her this morning:

"So far, so good.  We had our first band of rain go over just a little while ago.

All the times we lost heat, water and electricity were a cinch compared to some of our remodeling stories.

I’m finding today’s topic upsetting as it is bring up too many bad memories.  I don’t even know where to begin.  There was the house we called “THE MONEY PIT”.  Just like in the movie part of our fireplace collapsed.  The deck had to be replaced twice.  After the first replacement it leaked water into the house and ruined our dining room table.  Multiple times we had flooding in the house and multiple times we paid various people to correct the problem until someone finally got it right.

Hardest to deal with were all the people who started jobs and left in the middle and the messes they made, people who promised to keep everything covered only to throw a few sheets up.  One of the cats developed asthma from one of those people.  Most of all I hated doors and windows left open when the workers were told over and over not to let the pets out.

Only one more since I could go on for hours.  We sandblasted the paint off the brick of a house.  I was assured the dust would not get into the pool.   The project was to take only a couple of days but the guy kept disappearing on and off.  At least he left his equipment-what would we do with half a painted house and half natural brick?  Finally he returned on a Saturday when Keith was home.  Suddenly Keith storms into the house very upset, the pool cover had collapsed into the pool along with a ton of stuff from the house.  I went outside and the guy couldn’t understand why Keith was so upset.  I also discovered I had to be very careful with him, which is why we paid him.  I was sure the guy was affiliated with the KKK.

My biggest inconvenince has been blackouts --- both citywide and in my building.  Also, although the building was built in 1960, the electrical system still uses an old fashioned fuse box which blows fuses on a regular basis.  While they have done a lot of cosmetic work on the building, I wish they would re-wire to circuit breakers.

Well worth $4.99, The Pajama Game.

Now, as with the earlier-this-week discussion of On the Town, it's clear I don't understand what makes a man attractive.  (Of Jules Munshin, Frank Sinatra and Gene Kelly, I thought that Sinatra seemed the most like a savvy New Yorker, Kelly the most like a farmboy but was told Kelly's ten times more sexy than Sinatra and Munshin the most farmboyish.  Surprised me, but I'm learning.)  So take it with many grains of salt when I say that John Raitt is insufficiently handsome.

The Pajama Game's strength is that it's SO faithful to the Broadway original, using much of the creative team and even some of the cast, including John Raitt, in his only movie lead.  And he's got looks, I feel, that one can love from several rows back in a Broadway theatre, but not so much blown up on to a big movie screen.  He's a little wooden, although always in fine voice.

But I really love the way the pajama-manufacturing machines seem to dance along with the music.  It gives an inkling of the sort of cleverness Bob Fosse brought to the cinema decades later.

Hi all.  Sorry to have been E&T the past couple of days.

I worked on getting the house/yard ready and took the dogs for a walk while I still could.  I took a little nap this afternoon in case it turns out to be a very long night.

As Jane reported, we have already had a couple of the outer bands come over us already.  Not very bad but lots of rain and some wind.  Mandatory Evacuations have been called for anyone in low areas/manufactured homes and mobile homes.

At one time, I considered buying a manufactured home but now I am very glad I did not.  I don't know where I would go with Mom, the dogs and the fish.  I brought him (the fish) home again because I wasn't sure what was going to happen.

One the things I am getting a chuckle out of is some of the commercials.  I know these were done before the hurricane but it's funny to hear some of the car dealerships saying they're having a blow out sale or some such.  I told Mom if they don't tie some of those things down they might be blowing down the street!

I don't think I would be out buying a car or a couch this weekend!  :)

I would like to watch some DVD's but Mom doesn't want to leave the live TV in case something big happens.  The main part of the storm isn't going to get here until around 2 tomorrow afternoon.......  Like I said, it could be a long night.

DRMBARNUM - I heartily concur with DRNOEL - watch The Pajama Game....Doris shines, the music is a treat...and the musical staging (yes, mostly faithful to the stage but E X P A N D E D) is outstanding!

I just bought the DVD to "Call Me Madam" a few days ago.  I never was too interested in "The Pagama Game" because about 8 years ago, a local theater group did it.  I only saw it once (out of their six or so performances) and I just wasn't impressed.  I knew that their production wasn't that great, but I must've let my opinion of the production cloud any impartial opinion of the show itself.  And if I can find it as cheaply as MBarnum ($4.99!) I wouldn't hesitate to buy it.  Maybe I will!

All these house horror stories bring another one to mind.
I never wanted to own a house. I never really wanted to own much of anything, in my youth, except books. I was a free spirit, I guess. Even though I was the young genius head writer, Al Waxman (the King of Kensington) used to call me "the hippie chick."
Anyway, after I hooked up with my ex-husband, who already happened to have two children who would be visiting and staying over frequently, an actual  house was necessary. We drove all over Toronto - areas we liked - and found a great old house in the Greek section of town ("the Danforth") which had been totally renovated. I had never spent such a huge chunk of money in my life (I didn't even own a car - in Toronto- like NY - you don't need one)... So we moved into the house - beautiful hardwood floors, natural brick and white walls -  and the first night - the deluge hit. It seems that some workman had hammered a gigantic nail into one of the water pipes -- and it was just a matter of time until...  Aaaargh. Why is it that so many people don't do their work properly? Remember the good old days when even the lowliest of assembly line workers took pride in a job well done? Am I sounding like an old fogy?

Is Studs Terkel were to be researching "Working" now he would find such a different world.  Must admit though I have not read any of his other books. With "Working" it is so easy to see the inspiration for the songs in the musical.  I wish the show was more widely known and performed here in Australia.

I'm here, I'm here. I was, believe it or not, doing homework. (Oh, the horror!) I need to figure out what I am going to do for my presentation on Wednesday.

The biggest disaster to hit this house in recent memory is the one that lives in the room next to mine and bangs on a drum all night.

I love THE PAJAMA GAME. My first BIG role as an adult was as Vernon Heinz in THE PAJAMA GAME.

Doris Day was BORN to play Babe Williams. She sings like a dream, has softness and feistiness to the perfect degree, and is an excellent actress. Just watch her emote during her reprise of "Hey, There." The song is prerecorded, but the emotions aren't. They're as real as can be.

Beautiful afternoon at the pool today (sorry for E&T behavior). Some digital pictures were taken, and when he uploads them and if they're any good, I'll display some here.

Later, as he cooked dinner, I tinkered with his on-the-brink-of-oblivion laptop and got things restored and working smoothly again.

For those who have seen GUMNAAM (BK and JRand54) remember that gal who dances in the mask in the big nightclub scene. I finally found out her name. It is Laxmi Chhaya. I spotted her in another film that I watched the other day...again she was a dancer...did a wild 1960s go go dance...unfortunatley the movie was taking place in ancient India! LOL!

But she was so cute in her tassle trimmed pantsuit! LOL!

And I also received 3 autographed photos of Cal Bolder...one from JESSE JAMES MEETS FRANKENSTEIN'S MONSTER, one of him in western gear, and one from an appearance on MAN FROM UNCLE. Plus a very nice letter!

And he is feeling better now too and if all goes well he and I will meet up in Portland in November!

Dear Reader Jose and I met our quota for art today, of both the high brow variety--at the Getty Center--as well as the low brow.  The latter was at a gallery in Culver City, which was offering a Bob Mizer exhibit.  Those of you who know who Bob Mizer is know from what I speak.

I dropped the Maestro at Los Angeles' world-famous Farmer's Market and made a brief stop at home.  I am now off to the Museum of Neon Art ("MONA.")  I will sit on the top of a double-decker bus and take a tour of the neon signs of Los Angeles.

Now there's an adventure, Dear Readers, from which you can no doubt plotz.

Panni I thought of you when I purchased the marzipan.  For George, MBarnum and JMK, it was purchased at the store where I got the Jordon Almonds.

I wish I liked ginger as it is good for your stomach, including nausea.

I usually buy only a few pieces at a time, the chocolate cream and a scotchmallow and pass on the samples since they are rarely what I want.  They are so kind and keep offering me different ones.  A couple of months ago they were giving out their new peanut butter bar, kind of like a Butterfinger-yummy.  They gave me extras to mail to Craig.

I also like California Brittle and Victorian Toffee.  I think they make the best Peanut Brittle.  I have a Crispy Mint thin in my special jar.

Last summer a friend came to visit.  With her she had two boxes of See’s candy.  She watched in horror as I consumed them and promised never to buy me a box of candy again.  ;D I didn’t really consume it all, I shared some and then after they left, trashed the ones I don’t like.

This must stop-even if I drove 30 minutes to the mall I’m sure the store is closed by now.

Carmen does work in English, if it's Carmen Jones.  But that's a special case.

I have spent the day in bed.  The cold I've been working my way through decided to pull out all the stops, and I've had every part of my body protesting.  My throat has been protesting.  My ears have been protesting.  My head has been protesting.  My neck has been prostesting.  As have my chest and my back.

(I won't get into the flem I've been caughing up, because it's been very green, globulous, and gross in a muccussy way.)

So, I spent the day in bed.  Der Brucer drove up to Dover, and then over to visit with the grandlads, and is on his way home now.

The dogs have been very happy about my spending so much time in bed, because they've all been cuddling.  In shifts.  The only problem has been Fletcher, who several times has drained my water glass of water, thinking that I set it beside my bed just for him.

Hi, all...

Sorry I've been errant and truant. Things have been insanely busy lately between work and a recent whirlwind tour of Kentuckiana and having a tooth ripped out of my head on Weds. (don't ask). Suffice it to say that I haven't had much free time lately. I think about you guys a lot, though, if that's any consolation. :-)

DR Laura asked me to post a couple of pictures that I've taken over the last few weeks. This one was taken from the Empire State Building a couple of weeks ago while the object of my affections was here. L'objet d'amour is back in Chicago, and my affections aren't as out of control as they once were, but we had a lot of fun this particular evening, so this picture serves as a fun memory. Hopefully we will have more such fond memories in the future.

So, you have heard of K-Tel?

Oh, yes!

I've even bought a K-Tel Lp in Canada in the early seventies!
I always thought that the K stood for.... Kanada!! ::)

You're welcome, Panni!

Nice to hear from you Jason!
Nice view too! Impressive!

I'm back again. I see Jason has left. I was hoping for some good tales about where he's been, what he's been up to. Oh well.
I'm going to wash the dishes and tidy up my mansion. Laters. (a Jose reference)

I have to admit I like CARMEN JONES. I don't think it's great or anything, but I've enjoyed the film every time I've watched it. I've never seen it on stage.

I've seen CARMEN several times, but I'm not an opera fan, so no need for me to say any more.

I like CARMEN JONES as well.  BUT, i'd like it better if the heroine had a different name, Carmen is the name of someone in my life whom I'd rather not have in my life. . .and that's that.

DARBY O'GILL AND THE LITTLE PEOPLE is a beautiful transfer, very richly saturated (like all of the Disney 50s Technicolor live aciton films. The color is SO vibrant) and with no print damage that I could see. And Sean Connery has a sweet singing voice. I geuss his time in the choruses of those musicals in London qualified him to do his own singing in this film.

Yes, it's full screen as DR RLP reported several days ago, but the first widescreen mode on my TV fills the screen and cuts the tiniest portion of the tops and bottom off in the process thus giving me pretty much the 1.66:1 framing that the film probably had in cinemas at the time. Everything looked properly centered to me when I used this mode.

One confusing thing I found was the card inserted into the DVD case. Mine said that the film was enhanced for 16 X 9 televisions, but it certainly was not.

Do they congregate and become the Mike Curb Congregation?? :D

How kind that you remember our dear Republican Lt. Governor - others think of him less kindly:

The Evils of Mike (http://onstagemag.com/ar/performance_pop_quiz_8/):

Quote
On November 7, 1970, MGM Records president (and future Republican lieutenant governor of California) Mike Curb dropped 18 artists from the company's roster, including such acts as Connie Francis, the Velvet Underground, the Cowsills, and the Mothers of Invention.

I was walking down the street this afternoon and my cell phone rang. It was my daughter calling to say hello from Budapest (she bought a phone card). I noted that it was the middle of the night for her. She said yes, it was 2 AM and she and her boyfriend were just coming home from a gay bar where they had gone with one of the other students from San Francisco who is gay and was homesick.
My memories of Budapest - in spite of the fact that I've visited a few times since leaving - are the memories of a child. So, gay bars are not in the old memory bank.
