It is a hauntingly beautiful song, at least in my mind. It will go on my CD, when I make it. I must start writing these songs down so I don't forget any when the time comes.

I don't want to, but I must dance the Dance of the Wussburger. I'm very sleepy and even though "Battlestar Galactica" was quite exciting, it didn't keep me from getting tired (there were two episodes plus a sort of "making of" half-hour show). Although I didn't nod off while watching it, its "exciting" effects have worn off quite quickly.

In my CD player, in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday, I have King: A Musical Testimony written by Richard Blackford and Maya Angelou with additional lyrics by Alistair Beaton. I think it's quite good...although I understand it's been substantially rewritten since this recording was made in 1990.

Media Check:

In the theater: Racing Stripes

DVD: A collection of Superman cartoons, the Disney Tarzan, and disc four of the Looney Tunes Golden Collection Vol. 2.

Car CD Player: Soundtrack from the Disney Tarzan, and a trio of Disney Songs cds.

This is because of all the LADSITTING we've been doing. Der Brucer and I have been substituting for the grandlads' daycare provider, and frankly I'm getting SICK OF IT!!!

The Tarzan score is endlessly played, if we're going to the store or whatever, because they both know all the words and sing along. If we're watching the television, the set is tuned in to a toon channel, or to animated DVDs. They even forced me to go into a MacDonalds for lunch the other day! Those places are EVIL!!!

I'm tired of the testing of limits that have been set, of being lied to about what their parents allow. I'm tired of the hour-plus drive back, which is always later than we were planning because the lads' parents want to talk (and don't with each other). And then having to cook dinner when we get home, because the food in family's house is inedible.

Re Racing Stripes, it's a cute film about a Zebra who wants to be a race horse. The humans in the film don't hear a word that the animals say, but the animals talk a lot, generally using the voices of some well-known actors. David Spade plays a horsefly, which seems appropriate. Dustin Hoffman voices a Shetland Pony, which doesn't. The outcome of the film is obvious almost from the first frame.

We took der B's older grandlad to see the film, because he hasn't had as much personal time with Grandpa, what with his being in school. (The grandlad, not Grandpa.) He enjoyed the film. Me, I think der B owes me one. Big time.

The pain and suffering continue next week, with MLKJr Day and the day after. That day will be a lot less than fun, as der B has a doctor's appointment as well, and it will be my duty to keep the two lads under control while he's otherwise occupied.

Bleh.

Jane Monheit - "Come Dream With Me"
James Naughton - "It's About Time" - I finally gave this one a listen this past week... It seems Mr. Naughton is trying to channel Joe Williams on a few tracks. Hmmm...
Kurt Elling - "This Time It's Love" - To my ears, Mr. Elling never really seems to hit the center of the pitch. Maybe it's a jazz thing, but it makes him sound off-key. Again, at least to my ears. But I have a friend who is crazy about him, so I picked up a few discs. Hmm...
Ben Folds Five - "Whatever and Ever Amen" - Still my favorite Ben Folds disc.
"The Songs of Robert Schumann - Vol. 2" - Hyperion Schumann Edition - Simon Keenlyside (love that last name!), baritone, and Graham Johnson, piano.
The Boy from Oz - (OBCR) I forgot Brad Anderson was in this show; he plays the "Trick". -He was Lt. Cable at Arena Stage two years ago. Great guy, and he's now in All Shook Up.
Renée Fleming and Bryn Terfel - "Under the Stars" - Finally listened to this one too this week... Hmm...
