Well, you've read the notes, you inhaled the notes, and now it is time for you to post until the inhaling cows come home.

Good morning, all! I slept well, fought the impulse to get out of bed when the alarm rang and lost. I will shortly board a bus for Toyland. I doubt I will work for more than 4 hours, but I'd like to get as close to completing this set of orchestra parts before the final round is ready for taping. Tomorrow, I will order a final round of paper for the orchestra parts. This weekend I ordered more toner for the printer and more tape.

I have no other plans today beyond the work at Toyland. I've still got Rory O'Mor to finish along with the EILEEN libretto this week. I've now got three weeks to finish all of the liner notes for the EILEEN release in September.

That's my day.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Safe Travel Vibes for All DRs on the road today! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Greetings from Toyland! The ride down was wonderful and very quick. I love NYC on holidays when the residents leave town; the Upper West Side very quiet and empty and in midtown there were a few tourists and sailors strolling about. I'm sure it will be a madhouse later but now it's very nice.
Several years ago I went to the local store to get a Vicks Inhaler and found they were out, and the clerk told me Vick's wasn't making them anymore.  I was aghast.  I found an old inhaler which had an 800 number on it, called, told the Vicks lady what had happened and she assured me they still made them.  She asked for my name and address and within about a week I had a little box FULL of Vicks Inhalers, plus a pile of coupons for money off on other Vicks products.
Their estate is incredibly litigious and that is why, for example, some video releases that initially featured Happy Birthday no longer do (Wallace & Gromit spring to mind).
The backdoor cat, who belongs to the backdoor neighbors but prefers me, is a hunter and I've regularly seen clumps of feathers in the yard. But he has never been one to bring offerings to me. Until today. He left a dead rat by the back door. Charming sight to wake up to.
TOD:  I remember we always had Vick's -- or somebody's -- inhalers around when I was a kid, and I used one occasionally.  Since then, though, when I need to clear my passages to be able to sleep or whatever, I treat myself to a small squirt of Afrin or a generic.  There was a time when I was using that kind of thing on a fairly frequent basis, and I read about how dangerously addictive these can be.  I knew one person who went through it, and of course he said NEVER use them.  But not having that particular problem, thank goodness, I'll take a few drops once or twice a year, either in a climate situation that stops up my nose, or at the clogged up point when I'm getting over a cold.
Odd, though, as many years as it's been, I can "see" and "smell" that Vick's inhaler, now, as I type.
Title: Re: VICK'S INHALER
Post by: John G. on May 28, 2012, 08:04:56 AM
TOD: The inhaler that the former doctor put me on had a steroid in it, which caused my blood sugar to rise from just above 100 to above 400. I told the doctor that was the problem. He refused to believe it. I stopped the inhaler, the blood dropped down to what it had been. This is why he is the former doctor.
So, the new doctor recommended something with the oil of grapefruit pits in it. I was allergic to that. She made a note of it to tell future patients.
You know, listening to the patient is a good thing.
The Memorial Day Concert in Washington was really strange.  I was in the process of getting ready for bed, when suddenly I hear this voice telling the audience that they willl need to evacuate quickly, but in an orderly manner.  I am like, "WTF?"  Then the host (Siese?  Mantegna?) comes back and explains that is a weather emergency, but that the show will continue.  The concert continues for about  ten more minutes, and then the show is officailly stopped and they annouunce that they will show last year's concert.  Then after that broadcast, they start over with last night's concert again right up to the point where the weather service stops the performance.
More on the SHREW production we saw last night.  The characters of Tranio and Baptista were played by, and as, women.  Kate and Bianca's mother had an Irene-Ryan-as-Granny-Clampett quality, which was quite funny.  The female Tranio clearly had a crush on Lucentio, which made it kind of bittersweet when she had to court Bianca on his behalf.
I intend to honor National Burger Day by making my own pale imitations of Shake Shack burgers.  It won't be the blend, and it'll be on an outdoor grill instead of the whatever-you-call-it (griddle?). But I'll grill carefully, and I've got good quality beef, the Martin's potato rolls, Roma tomatoes, two kinds of onions, leaf lettuce, Heinz ketchup, relish, and a choice of Guldens Spicy Brown and Nathan's Deli Mustard.  We'll get by somehow.
According to the handy-dandy Reagan National dining and shopping guide, there's a Five Guys right next to our gate.  Maybe we'll be really decadent and have lunch there!
What is a Five Guys?
It's the burger chain made famous by President Obama.  I had a small cheeseburger with tomatoes, green peppers, and grilled mushrooms.  And my first French fries in months.  My last vacation splurge...
I love Vick's Inhalers. In fact I've got one with me now in Kiev, just in case I can't breathe properly!
Kiev?  Is that where the chicken comes from?
I've checked out various restaurant menus but haven't seen chicken kiev yet - I was looking forward to trying it out. Of course, not being able to read the menus doesn't help!
The backdoor cat, who belongs to the backdoor neighbors but prefers me, is a hunter and I've regularly seen clumps of feathers in the yard. But he has never been one to bring offerings to me. Until today. He left a dead rat by the back door. Charming sight to wake up to.
How can you be so ungrateful after all the hard work backdoor cat has done in bringing you a treat  ;D
TOD:
A few weeks ago I was in the coffee shop and next to me were two business men discussing the personalities of people they had just attended a meeting with. I don't recall names so I'm using X and Y. One said to the another "So what color would you say Mr X was?" The other one replied "I'd say he was Red". "And what colour was Mr Y?" The other replied "I think mainly Blue with Red elements".  The response was, "Absolutely right! Brilliant analysis"!
I got my nook last week and haven't really had time to read anything on it. But I tried to check something out of the library. They have plenty of books marked [electronic resource], but only about 30 of those are nook compatible. Of those, five are volumes of Proust, and even those were checked out!
So, I'm on a wait list for a book about pizza.
I'm surprised you don't have more Nook friendly books.  Our library only had Adobe EPUB eBook and have just recently added Kindle & another option.
Aside from the library issue are you happy with the Nook?  Did you get the original, color, or tablet?
DR Jennifer I've been told the eBook library is for the entire state of Oregon.
On the hold list, under my queue listing, is the following:
*Waiting list may be shorter for your library.  Which I suppose explains why some books come in much earlier than I expect them to.
I also check my wish list on a regular basis and watch for books that become available.
Memorial Day greetings from Washington's Reagan National Airport!  Because a) check out time at the hotel was noon and b) it's hot and muggy here in DC, we just headed for the airport and checked in for our 5pm flight.  We're enjoying the air conditioning, the view of the Potomac, and the passing scene.
I've only been at the Dulles airport.  I didn't know the National had a nice view while waiting.
I ended up staying at Toyland until 7 pm, taping the cello parts. I now have two bass parts left to do before the next round comes in. On my way from the subway I stopped and got a cheeseburger. I will watch a bit of tv, chill out and pass out. Tomorrow morning, I'll go in, finish up the bass parts, and hit the NYPL for some EILEEN research.
Rehearsal is done - not so rough as others have been, so that was very nice.  I think I'm going to see if there's a way to make Tom Griep our official musical director - that would take a lot of pressure off having to find a new one all the time.
I got the Nook Color and I haven't had time to use it enough yet to judge whether I like it. I like being able to read a chapter or so before going to bed, but that's hardly more than five or 10 minutes
I am surprised the library has so few EPUB options, too.
I am having a hard time checking email on it, so I have to work on that. That was one reason I wanted the Color. It was a tablet,but one that doesn't do movies or games,  neither of which I wanted.
Went to see "Bernie" today and it was great. Jack Black is inspired, and Shirley MacLaine is a riot. But the real stars are all these East Texas people who play folks from Carthage. I met a couple of them when I did my one day's work as an extra. They were charming in real life and just hysterically funny on the screen.
This is a very Texas movie. I don't know how it'll play in the rest of the country.
And, yes, I can be seen in the background quite clearly for a second or two in two scenes, including one in which I'm singing "Just As I Am" along with Jack Black.
