So ... somehow I have gotten myself into a pickle. I have to give a talk to a bunch of people (mostly kids) this morning. How did I get myself into this?

Today I am working 1/2 day, then attending the technical rehearsal for the Airport Appreciation Days Radio Show - which happens tomorrow night....then a full dress rehearsal of SEE HOW THEY RUN.
All in one day.
Last night we did Act Three in about 35 minutes - it is the longest act of the play. We then did it again - and one actor decided to skip three pages.
I was waiting by the door to make my LAST entrance in my underpants when I heard it happen.....
I thought SOMEBODY would get us back on track....but after a couple of beats everyone just kept on. The director had said that there would be NO prompting....to get ourselves out of trouble if we had to.....and I had to get "upstairs" to get back into my clothes.....so at a random moment, I just opened the door and ran through the scene. Everyone stopped for a moment....made no comment....and just went on.
Hopefully that will NEVER happen during performance!
But we are finally in sight of funny!
The second run thru even with three pages gone ran 39 minutes.....which is a mystery.
So ... somehow I have gotten myself into a pickle. I have to give a talk to a bunch of people (mostly kids) this morning. How did I get myself into this? You'll do a swell job-- I know you will. Break a leg!
Greetings from Toyland!I want to sit
I am listening to John McGlinn's wonderful recording of SITTING PRETTY. It is truly a gem.

Today is my Dear Son Rob's 27th birthday!
I also have to prepare for a 3 hour class I'm teaching on 9/22 at St; Edwards University in Austin for the Texas Writer's League: "Creating Effective Characters".
I'm told that it's already 2/3 sold out.
Happy Birthday to DS Rob in Bob Evans Country! (Sorry, DR John G.) :oWe had an office potluck today. I'm quite sated. The rice krispie treats were killer, and I'm usually not a big fan, but I think the woman who made them snuck in an extra stick of butter.
And the word of the day is: PICEOUS!
Except there were no snacks. And I guess the kids didn't want to snack on the caterpillars. Or whatever that turkey vulture had its eye on.
Well, I did ok, I guess. I am happy to report that I remembered all the words to The Pledge of Allegiance, I bowed my head during the opening prayer: "Dear God. Please make this year better than last year, and please let us all have fun;" and I sat respectfully during the recitation of The 4-H Pledge.
But I couldn't help but wonder: Why aren't these kids in school?

Someone in my building put a box of free CDs in the basement laundry room and I snaged some wonderful cds of 1950s hits, each cd has hits from a particular year.

Nothing new this week I'm afraid but I'm saving my pennies for DAVID AND BATHSHEBA :)
They loved the caterpillars I brought with me, they asked a lot of questions about tarantula hawks, and they were distracted by the turkey vulture circling over the field behind me.
Good morning, all! I stayed up too late agan watching the convention. I'll crash around 3 again today.
I am off to Toyland; I have to wait for a repair crew to check out the office's AC problem (yes, Toyland, too!): the AC works but the duct that moves the cold air to all of the offices in our suite needs a fix.
DR Laura, throw a few four-letter words into your presentation. Or drop your notes, and say "goddam" as you pick them up. They will never ask you again. It never fails.
I got a nce email this morning from my close personal friend Stephen Rea, and that has me thinking that I want to see agan the 1970 filmed version of Chekhov's THREE SISTERS with Joan Plowright and Alan Bates.
TOD:
DVD: The Crying Game (again!), The Three Sisters, The Beggar Student
CD: High Society (London, 1987), Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Eileen, Guy Haines,
VCR: Smut

Singers should start arriving soon. We do have one cast member who got screwed by her work, and it's now chancy that she'll be here in time for her first number. Oh, well.

Take Sandra along - she can eat a plate for them

Today is my anniversary. We celebrated by him going to work and me speaking to children who were not in school. I fixed his favorite dinner: Hamburger Helper and he brought me flowers and a watermelon.
Happy Birthday to DR FJL's Dad!
Page five? The holiday was last weekend!
Happy Birthday to DR FJL's Father
Happy 92nd to FJL Dad -- just four years ahead of mine, now that I think about it.
