LC I've lived here for 23 years and in those years I can count on one hand and still have fingers left over the number of times I've had a female cab driver. I have, I think, in all that time, had two. We commented on it both times and they were both very pleasant about it, acknowledging the rare bird quality.
And, yes, get a copy of Of the Town. It's a great show. The movie is a whole different thing. I like the movie but it's not the show. Most of the score, in standard Hollywood form, was cut. The score is filled with little treasures that you won't see if you watch the movie w/Gene Kelly, Frank Sinatra, Betty Garrett, Ann Miller, Jules Munshin, Vera-Ellen. It is great to see Miss Betty Garrett, though. I love Nancy Walker but Betty Garrett is a joy.
BK, I know it's not Ask BK Day, but did you ever see the 1971 Los Angeles production of Forum with Nancy Walker? She got to sing another song (Farewell). I know she declined to come to NY when it moved. I would have loved to see her as Domina. She was replaced in NY by Lizabeth Pritchett. Anyway, that's enough theatre history. I need to get to the tailor and have some pants taken up. I'm SHORT. I wish I could buy off the rack and have something fit!!!
