The "Hold the Line" commercial for Mohegan Sun seems designed to make the place look unthreatening and unhip.

I honestly think that "The Last Supper" in JELL-O is worthy of a shot; although, since it's an antique bas-relief I don't see that happening anytime soon.

The "My Sharona" Mohegan Sun commercial had made the place a little too trendy.

I must say, after a day of the printer jamming every other page, this project was very satisfying:

I think it's a four-month delay, which would make it June or July.

RE: digital tv.

The most confusing commercial appeared on tv here before the 8pm pop-up LOST.
It was a test pertaining to the new digital tv discussion we've been having here.

I really could not understand if they were serious because it had a big sign on the screen that said "your tv has failed the test" and then 2 people from the station came on and said that if it said that your tv failed the test that either a) you needed a converter box or b) you needed to contact your cable provider.

There was also a banner from my cable provider that said they would be getting all the US digital stations.

My question a couple of months back was if i had cable or digital tv service would i be okay if one of my tvs was older (bedroom tv). And i was told here that they only people who would have problems would be those who used an antenna.

I think it's commercials like the one i saw that are confusing people (like me). Because it was completely unclear if they were just warning people or if the test could actually tell which tvs would have problems.

Anybody have any clue?

DR Jennifer - That was a stupid test.  And confusing.

In Richmond, they ran a test - TWICE - last week.  They said they were starting the test... And if you still got any sort of picture you were fine.  However, if your screen went totally blank, well, then you would need to invest in a convertor box or upgrade to cable.

If you have a cable box, you should already be taken care of.

-I mean, unless they somehow managed to send out a second signal to broadcast that "fail" message.. ??? ??? ???

And, again, what matters is HOW you receive your TV signal, not what you watch that signal on.

DR JRand58, I thought you'd like the Spinetti bio. I think my favorite story is the anecdote about Terence Rattigan and the soldier who'd been in one of his plays.

The cable guy was here at 2 pm on the dot and i have a wnderful new highspeed modem. I'll be glad when the Mac folk update their spellcheck system; I type Hampson and they tell me I mean "Homespun"; I type "Curtis" and they tell me I mean "curates"! Oy.

I felt so dumb watching that test.

It was extremely confusing.

This might sound stupid too, but do most people who have cable have a cable box?

From the Arizona Republic:

WASHINGTON - Bucking the Obama administration, House Republicans on Wednesday defeated a bill to postpone the upcoming transition from analog to digital television broadcasting to June 12 — leaving the current Feb. 17 deadline intact for now.

.. tonight when three shows come on at 10, so two will have to be recorded.

Three?

1. Life On Mars
2. Law and Order

Damages rebroadcasts in HD at 11 and 1

der Brucer

Absolutely true, but since I needed to see DAMAGES to be able to discuss it at lunch tomorrow, it had to be seen tonight, so I had to do it "live."

Arrrgh!

I just received at my desk a copy of TO BROADWAY WITH LOVE, one of the latest DRG re-releases.  This was a revue that ran at the '64 Worlds Fair and had some new songs by Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick.  I'm arrrrghing because when I popped the cd into my pc to import the songs into my iPod, I found that none of the nine tracks are encoded with info.  No song titles, no artists, not even the cd title!  What's more, there's no official track info on the cover or in the booklet.  There's a listing of songs at the beginning of the booklet that are paired into nine groups--hopefully I can use this as the info that I will have to type in myself.

Once again, Arrrrgh!

The Songs
1.      To Broadway with love
2.     Old Folks at Home (Swanee River)
3.     Dixie
4.     Yankee Doodle boy
5.     Mary's a grand old name
6.     Every day is ladies' day with me
7.     The 88 rag
8.     Till the clouds roll by
9.     Over there
10.     Three wonderful letters from home
11.     Would you rather be a colonel
12.     Rose of Washington Square
13.     Beautiful lady
14.     Another op'nin', another show
15.     There's no business like show business
16.     Carousel waltz
17.     Speak low
18.     Buckle down, Winsocki
19.     Bali Ha'i
20.     I still get jelous
21.     F.D.R. Jones
22.     Mata Hari mine
23.     Remember radio
24.     Popsicles in Paris

The Singers
Carmen Alvarez
Kelly Brown
Miriam Burton
Bob Carroll
Ted Forlow
Reby Howells
Patti Karr
Nancy Leighton
Don Liberto
Rod Perry
Guy Rotondo
Millie Slavin

Many thanks for the list and the cover art, DR MS--I'll beable to cut and paste the titles into iTunes tomorrow.

Possible DVR Alert - Both "Lost" and "Damages" seem to be running over a minute or two tonight.  Adjust your setting accordingly.

I don't know about other folks' DVRs, but the cable guide with my DVR has those overruns "built into" the information for the show. It records precisely the amount of time the network claims each show will run.

No, I won't be happy about five day mail delivery, but there's no use in my having a "spitting fit" about it. Not a thing I can do about it.

Mine doesn't I have lost the end of shows on more than one occasion. At least when the time was off because of sports or other delays

Nope, the House voted down the delay so it's supposed to happen on schedule in February.

I, too, had no mail today.  Very annoying.  I've done seven full pages and I think that will be that, unless I finish another page before bed.

Finished the movie, which, according to the quotes on the box is a real thriller with thrills and filled with twists and turns (every box-writer's favorite term).  Well, there are no thrills, not a single one, there is not one twist or turn, and the film is rated R for STRONG sexual content and VIOLENCE.  The violence I'm sorry to tell you wouldn't even qualify for a PG, and the STRONG sexual content is for a very brief gay love scene on video in which you see NOTHING.
