Good Afternoon!

So far, so good.

I had a great time meeting with my friend, Lisa, this morning at Panera.  -And the "Pink Ribbon" Bagel is really damn tasty!  Besides answering a couple of questions (the interview part), it was also nice to hear about all the theatrical things that have been happening in Richmond over the past couple of years.  There have been the usual 'downs' associated with the Biz, but there seems to be quite a nice upswing in the community lately towards fostering the local talent.  :)

I went ahead and headed up to VCU, my alma mater, after the breakfast meeting, to say HI to some of my former professors.  When I got up to the campus area, I noticed that there was a lot of street parking available. A lot.  Then I went ahead and went into the Performing Arts Center, and there was no one there.  The offices were open, but I didn't see any students.  It turned out that their Fall Break "weekend" started today.  Ah, well...

Horror movies (and I don't like this movie): Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. I think this is a very scary movie. All those children disappearing, and no one seems to care; they just continue on through that weird candy factory as if that is all that matters.

Since Charlie was ok at the end I figured the other children were.  I also figured the other children sold out at the end, unlike our hero Charlie.

Edie Adams

has passed away at 81

This is sad news, indeed.  I just caught her in THE APARTMENT a few short weeks ago.

How did she get in?    Did you punish her severely?

DR elmore, if you call your doctor he may be able to provide you with a few samples of your meds if you explain the situation.  It doesn't hurt to ask.

TOD (although there are so many that I enjoy over and over again):
THE OTHER (it still creeps me out more than most horror movies)
ROSEMARY'S BABY
CARRIE
SUSPIRIA
THE HAUNTING
BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN
PSYCHO
THE BIRDS
SALO, THE HUNDRED AND TWENTY DAYS OF SODOM
IRREVERSIBLE
ABBOT AND COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN
BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA (except for KeyNuNu)
THE WICKER MAN

I then headed down to (Historic) Shockoe Bottom to meet my dear friend, Kirsten.  -Who, as it turns out, I haven't seen in anywhere from six to ten years?!?!?  -We both kept trying to figure out exactly when was the last time we saw each other.  It was a great reunion, and it was so nice to catch up on each other's lives.

We lunched at place called Relish.  Cool space to eat.  They have a large salad bar, plus a Hot Bar that changes "themes/cuisines" daily.  Today was Indian day.  -Although, I could tell the spice level had been tamed for Richmond palates. ;)

YEAH!!!

My Dad just called from the hospital.  They're just waiting for my Mom's recovery room to be readied for her.  However, since this morning, she's already had a brief session of physical therapy, and she took a walk!  She should be in her room by 6:00, and then I'll head over for a visit.  :)

Jack Lemmon didn't give her a key, that's for sure!

If anyone wants to read a really good book, I suggest WAITER RANT by "The Waiter."  It's oh so true. . .

-And I'm feeling much better now too.  Much, much better.  What's sort of strange is that I can feel that my sinuses are empty - or at least getting there.  Parts of my face actually feel a little sore.  ???

My sinuses are still clearing up, and guck is still breaking up, and my voice is here but still pretty weak, so I've got a ways to go yet.  Not sure if I should go to this event tonight, but I think minimally I'll put in a brief appearance.  Had to order a big batch o' CD boxes.  Happily, they ship the same day and it only takes a day to arrive, so I should have them tomorrow.

I suppose I should think about what I want to eat - I don't think there'll be food at this thing tonight, and I can't wait until after to eat.

DR Jennifer - My mom was in CSICU - Cardiac Surgery ICU.  The "regular" ICU units there have standard visiting hours, but the CSICU is "restricted" due to the nature of the patients in there.  -It's basically the "first recovery" unit for anyone who's just had any sort of open heart surgery.

I told you they'd have her walking in two days! Excellent. They're probably getting pressure from her insurance about getting her out of there ASAP.

Hmm.. The only thing that comes to mind is Phoebe Damrosch's "Service Included".  -Which just came out in paperback.

Well, she probably won't be leaving the hospital until Monday or Tuesday, so... And then her battery of rehab and therapy starts up too.

*And I'm seriously considering clearing and cleaning out the fridge and pantry here tomorrow.  It's not exactly what you would call a "Heart Healthy" larder.  -And after the "stuff" that Mom neglected to tell her doctor during her pre-op interviews, well... We'll see.  -I also have another week off in two weeks, and I think I'll back down here again to check in on things.
