Title: KOSTELANETZ

Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of Kostelanetz, and now it is time for you to post until the Kostelanetz cows come home.

Some horrifying loud beep just went off - have no idea what that was - sounded like it came from the computer, but I've never heard anything like that before.  Scared the pants off me, and now I have no pants on.  How unseemly.

Yikes! :o I hate it when I hear something from my computer that I've never heard before.  Hopefully, it's just a noise and not an indicator of something horrible!

Thanks.  I blame it on my lousy dinner, or the pillows in the room, or just that sometimes I get these headaches.  I am grateful it isn't worse.

Today, I get to sleep in, then eventually I'll get up and feed my cat, then feed myself, then watch some TV, then probably do some laundry, then take a shower, then get dressed, then leave my house to work concessions for a concert by Pink Martini (http://pinkmartini.com)! :D

When working concessions, I won't get to see the entire concert, but I'll get to see most of it.  They'll probably sign autographs again after the show.  They've done that both times they've come to the WCPA (https://www.washingtoncenter.org).

I can certainly commiserate with BK on the publisher's mistake with his book.

After I approved everything with my book, HOLLYWOOD SNAPSHOTS: The Forgotten Interviews, I noted that the cover was posted on Amazon and it was not what I had approved.

It was a collage of head shots of the various stars that I had interviewed.  But, instead of having a photo in the group of Paul Henreid, there were two of John Carradine.

Like BK, I immediately got on the phone with the designer and..."was not very nice".

The error was corrected and, to the best of my knowledge, no copies of the incorrect cover were sent out.

However, if you Google the book, you can still see that the incorrect cover is up there somewhere in cyberspace.

Here's the correct one:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/1629331465/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1492172989&sr=1-1&keywords=hollywood+snapshots+druxman

T.O.D.

What's "controversial" any more?

I know:

My Al Jolson play.

It has been produced all over the country, but I haven't had a production for the past 3-4 years because theaters think people will be offended because Jolson puts on "blackface" in one scene.

So, one of the greatest entertainers of the last century is now a pariah because of political correctness.

Thank you.  She had moved to California years ago, and I honestly don't think I'd seen her in 40+ years.  We reconnected about three years ago when her sister gave her my email address and we kept in touch on Facebook.  Until I left for college at 17, she, her sister, my ass brother Macbeth, and I were inseparable.

Thank you, all, for the condolences.

Judy was the epitome of unfulfilled promise: pretty, a good student and artist who made every wrong choice imaginable.  By twenty, she was pregnant and married.  I think my last contact with her was in my twenties.  She and her husband had returned from France where they lived for several years while he was working there. She hated it, didn't seem to care a bit for being in Europe, did little, accomplished little but give birth, and her dismissal of the situation was "the people never wash; they stink."  The marriage ended soon after they moved to California, and she worked at low-paying  jobs and moved from man to man.  I still have a lot of resentment over her poor choices.

Here's a 1983 photo of her and her two children.

Because I wrote this and have nowhere to post it but here, this was my ode to having totally forgotten about My fair Lady opening Thursday night until after midnight, because I was totally hypnotized by the release of the Jim Comey memos, until around 11:30 p.m.  I finally recognized the Comey memos were a non-story, nothing to see here after excitedly reading them. Biggest political news let-down I can recall.  Then i went back to email and saw the My Fair Lady reviews there all at once!

Tune of “Show Me”  (an imagined cast of My Fair Lady opening night version)

(verse)  Ow -
Nerds, nerds, nerds, all you theater nerds!
All the praise here is true.
But what’s happened to you?
That D.C. distraction won’t do!

We’re getting raves, five-star reviews
What’s in the news?  Comey!
Our show should be on the front page.
What’s all the rage?  Comey!

Here we are with notices that say we are a coup
Spotlight’s on Jim, we say “us too”
Every stupid memo says what you’ve already heard
Focus on Jim is absurd.

In a small role, cheers for Ms. Rigg!
But look who’s big - Comey, Comey!
Don’t let Jim’s prose put you to sleep.
Please go call Telecharge now
Comey – oww!

I hear you, Larry.  And I'm so sorry for your loss.

But choices become bad sometimes because of other people sometimes.  Things that look great when you choose them can become bad choices only in retrospect due to the results and impact of other people.  When i was sick, Skip looked for help to my brother and sister-in-law, trusting them.  We now call my sister-in-law Lady Macbeth.  Skip never would have imagined Joann would behave as she did, especially since the family really rallied around her when she and my brother had been ill in the past.  Skip made what he thought was a reasonable choice, but you never know how someone will react.

Later edit:  I took out detail about Milla and Julie.

And I am back from the Cat Clinic and the record store.

I even bought something (I always try to whenever I'm in there):  a volume I didn't have (and rarely ever saw, Volume VII, the last one) of the Music of Arnold Schoenberg series on Columbia.

And that's just a "thing" with me. I love certain Schoenberg pieces, and find others unlistenable. But I have always so appreciated the attention paid to Schoenberg, Berg, and Webern back in the 1960s and thereabouts, by Columbia or CBS or whoever was behind it, that these various still enjoy permanent residence here.

She was totally grateful for the CD.  Yes, totally.  But after we had to face reality that publicity would not bring nearly the sales that the promotion would cost, I didn't hear from her for a while or get answers to calls.  Then, we started talking again when I saw a TV ad she did (non-singing, which she was actually really good in, I thought) so I called her up, and it was pleasant.  Then she did a table-read for us in Nov. 2013, but then the strangeness over the show at Midtown Int'l Theatre Festival Feb-March 2014.

We did a beautiful job on the Milla CD - if she's anything but grateful, shame on her.

I'd forgotten that Peter Filichia wrote the liner notes.

I forgot to mention that I got a really nice letter from the Screen Actors Guild yesterday - saying that now that I'm seventy, I no longer have to pay dues, unless I at some point earn over a certain amount of money.  That is the way a union should behave.

I learned the truth at Seventy
Now membership in SAG is free
They help me as i scrimp and save
The way a union should behave.

Speaking of which, has anyone seen Janis Ian perform lately?

 ;D ;D

I didn't know she was still performing.

Well I have to TELL you!  It has been a whirlwind couple of days.

Friday night was of course the REUNION itself.  It went very well, and it was nice to see everyone.

Here is a photo of myself and my friend Charlene from the event.

There were NO fist fights or drunken strip teases, so we had to content ourselves with lively conversation and quizzical "who the hell are you" looks.

The Memorial Slide Show was a big success....and the Class Slideshow received many kind comments.  The dance music was played low so that conversation could continue....although Homecoming Queen RH who has spent a lot of time out in the sun threatened to do her special routine....she was talked out of it.

In the background of this photo is my brother Mike and his wife Faith...Mike and I graduated in the same class.

This morning we went to the viewing of my cousin's son who died on Thursday of a massive heart attack at age 47.

We then went to the tours of the Academy Building and old gymnasium...the Academy Building was the first school in town built in 1861.  It was also a stop on the Underground Railroad.  We had classes in it when we were in Jr. High School.

The gym was old high school gym we used during Jr. High School....and I wandered out on the stage where I did some of my earliest acting.

Tonight was the Alumni Dinner honoring the class of 1968....and it was okay.....  The meal was prepared by the school cooks and served on cafeteria trays....and was....school cafeteria food.

Our memorial slide show was shown....but the music did NOT play - so it was an interminable 6.5 minutes of photos and names.  I was mortified!

The Class Slide Show was okay....with a speech by Mr. Hambone, although he actually did a pretty nice job and made some funny jokes.

Of course ALL THROUGHOUT the night - the alumni committee was asking for donations for their scholarship program and to help do what they do, including caring and restoring the Academy Building mentioned above.

And then came the absolute WORST PART OF THE EVENING.

After droning on and on and then re-electing themselves to their lofty positions and giving away a very SMALL scholarship.....a few of the biddies on the committee announced there would be a drawing for a few prizes.

They drew names and someone won a nice home made quilt and there were a couple of other things that were won.

After listening to them, I was ready to open my wallet to donate to the Alumni Fund...and then IT happened.  Biddy Number One announced the drawing for the GRAND PRIZE - a gift donated by a local jewelry store.  This of course caused some excitement in the audience.

The old Biddy pulled a slip of paper from the bowl and announced the name of Biddy Number Two - president of the Alumni Association.  She announced to the grumbling multitude...."Oh yes, I rigged this because Stephanie works so hard and has done so much...she deserves it....yes SHE DESERVES IT."

There was general disgruntlement in the crowd.  And I closed my wallet!

That woman from the jewelry store GAVE them that gift to GIVE to someone in attendance not to EACH OTHER.

My first stop Monday morning will be in the jewelry store to let the owner know what happened.

Oh yes!  FUN.  Vicki has had some health problems....she was a great gymnastics coach and advocate for young women - and then suddenly became almost immobilized.  NOBODY could figure out what was wrong.

She was almost bedridden for a year....finally physical therapy...and she claims CBD oil...returned her to ALMOST normal.

I am happy for her....but I am not COMPLETELY convinced.
