Well, you've read the notes, the notes were pithy and tart, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently working their way through the entire ouevre of Stephen King.

I forgot to mention the one scene that is The Dead Zone's only mis-step, and it's a biggie.

SPOILER ALERT IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE FILM

Most everything in The Dead Zone is seen from the perspective of the film's protagonist, Johnny Smith.  I'd have to back and watch with that in mind, but I think I'm right - there is only one scene in the film that departs from that - and it's the mis-step I speak of.  It's the scene where Martin Sheen as Senator-wannabe Greg Stillson, and his henchman pay a visit to a newspaper man - it shows Stillson to be an evil sob.  The scene is bad, and it tips the hand of Stillson long before it should (without the scene, the moment where Johnny shakes his hand and sees the future would be far more shocking and surprising).  The scene doesn't really hurt the film as a whole, but if you just skip past it, the film works so much better.

In my CD player:  the Brazilian cast recording of Side by Side by Sondheim called, Lado a Lado com Sondheim (http://www.footlight.com/product.cfm?product_id=35032)!  A friend of mine bought this for me as payment for making some CDs of audio clips of interviews with Elliott Yamin from "American Idol."  I wanted to listen to the OBC of Wicked, but it's packed away in storage.

In my VCR:  shows that I taped tonight, "Grey's Anatomy" and something else that I can't rememeber. ::)

In my DVD player:  Netflix movies that I've had way too long and I need to watch...hopefully, this weekend.

I am checking some DVDs from the NDSU library to see if they can be salvaged. If they work on my player they just might be salvageable... I get the Godfather tomorrow... That should be fun.

Oh, I almost forgot.  Before the show, 12 of us (driving in four different cars) all met at The Cheesecake Factory.  I'd never eaten there, although, my sister has brought me back some of their cheescakes...and they were totally yummilicious! :)

Anyway, everyone had something different and most everyone loved what they got.  Two people had breakfasts and for as fancy (and expensive) a restaurant as The Cheesecake Factory is, they were very, very plain breakfasts.  One person got just plain scrambled eggs with plain fried potatoes with plain (but large and homemade) English muffin.  That's it!  Nothing was mixed in with the fried potatoes.  Nothing was mixed in with the eggs.  Nothing was on the English muffin!  The two weren't entirely satisfied. :-\

I had the orange chicken with rice and vegetables.  But I didn't have the vegetables...I substituted mashed potatoes for the vegetables.  Everything was very good.  I ate much too much and I didn't even eat it all!  I brought back some of the rice and half of the orange chicken!  I did eat all of the potatoes, though. ;) For dessert, I had a slice of chocolate chip cookie dough cheesecake.  It was a lot less thick than I would've thought, but it was totally yummy!  I saved a little bit of that and just finished it (at almost 1:30 in the morning...just before I go to bed ::)).  It was worth it!  Both times. :D

We parked one block away from the theater and the restaurant was one block away from the parking, so after dinner, the couple of us who took food home were able to put it in the car on the way to the theater!  That was VERY convenient. ;D

Wednesday's topic of celebrities that would go away:

Michael Jackson!!
Jessica Simpson
Tom Cruise
Justin Timberlake
Rachel Ray
Jerry Springer
GEorge Bush
Deidre Hall  -- I met her once years ago at an event my cousin who wanted to go to and I felt she was incredibly rude for giving us a tongue lashing for accidently bumping into her despite our apologies. Needless to say, I was not impressed with her.

However Pamela Anderson Lee and Anna Nicole Smith irriate me to no end and they could fly the coop also. Matt even worked with Pamela once.. She appeared on a couple of eppies of Days back in the early 90s.

I caught the farewell of Matt Ashford on the dreadful DAYS OF OUR LIVES.  I wonder if our DR DakotaCelt is flying the flag at half mast?

Not really.. Disgusted as to how he was treated the last two years, YES!.  But I am looking forward to him doing bigger and better things. I only watched Days when he was on. I have no interest in the show outside of that. To me the true DAys of our Lives died in 1991 and it now a mere facsimile of its former self. Ken Corday, Tom Langan and James E. Reilly have effectively destroyed the essence of the program. I was disappointed to see Matt's talents shuttered and backburnered for over two years on the show. I say upward and onward!  I would love to see Matt do something that showcases his talents and those talents are appreciated. It is something Days never did, at least in the eyes of his fans. I truly hope, as do all his fans that good things come his way. The heck with Days...

Morning!  I spy with my little eye DR Ben!

Isn't today Dear Reader Laura's Birthday?  I might be wrong but I thought it was.  If so, Then HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR READER LAURA!

I had to drive into work yesterday so I wasn't able to use the laptop.  I had my yearly once over by the doctor.  I'm ok for the most part but she said I'm very stressed and if I things don't change, I will need to have some chill pills.

I don't have time to look up the spelling but I got my tetnus (?) shot.  My arm is very sore right now.  I just hope it doesn't get as bad as the last one of those shots I had when I could barely raise my arm for a day or two.

I hope that DR TomovOz and DP Colin are having a wonderful time in NYC!  I need to go back and look at posts to see if we have any pcitures to look at.

Good morning, all!  DR Danise, we're merely ships passing these days.  I hope everything's going well for you these days.

I have a jaunt to the post office and a trek to Toyland.  Perhaps the NYPL, since I have a prescription to refill and the pharmacy is next to the Lincoln Center Library.  I will meet DR Tomovoz aroud 5 at his hotel, have a lovely visit, then dinner with tomovoz, Colin, and DR FJL and the closing performance of The Singing Nun.

After the closing of the show, I have a party for the cast.  I'm taking a Miami University student I met last September when I spoke to the students.  He's been interning this summer with The Roundabout and we'll visit tonight for the first time since last September.

TOD:
DVD:  three Netflix films - I don't even remember what they are

ROTFLMAO
an archeologist said he had been in Cairo dating mummies.

My internet service was down last night so this didn't go out, but...

Regarding mummies:

My husband Greg has been working on a mummy doc. It seems that Emory University here in Atlanta bought a mummy from a cheesy little museum in Toronto that was probably stolen out of a grave back in the 1920's. They had a suspicion that it was Ramses the first. They had DNA on Ramses 2 &3, and the DNA tests were pretty conclusive. But the definining test was putting him through the cat-scan, where they saw the exact same method of cloth scrolls inserted into the chest to keep it puffed out and not sunken. They performed this scan at the Emory hospital and then wheeled him back to the museum. People in the hall were rather alarmed to see the condition of this "patient", and it probably didn't help when Greg sheepshily remarked "Errrr...we left him in a little too long"...

After they concluded all the tests, they sent him home to Egypt, where he now resides.

I just spoke to Tom. This is for the Sunday get together. Plans have changed slightly. We are still meeting but the time has changed from 10:30am to 11:30am and we are meeting in the lobby of the Milford Plaza hotel which is at the corner of 45th Street and 8th Avenue. The 20th Annual Broadway Cares Flea Market was the reason for the change. It will be a zoo in Shubert Alley and it's stressful enough to stay in New York without dodging theatregoers looking for stars autographs.

For those of you who know the area, the 8th Avenue entrance to the hotel is closed for renovations. You have to enter on 45th Street. It's right at the corner.

Tom said he was tired but he sounds great and I'm very excited about meeting them!

There is NOTHING in the DVD player right now!  Absolutely NOTHING... as far as I'm concerned.  Der Brucer has been recording shows that run at the same time as other shows that he's watching, and I don't get to see a thing!  Or, if I do get to see something, it's because he's recorded it for me from FoodTV or SciFi in the wee hours when they're being repeated and I'm asleep!

I know what to do, however.  I'll make him a fancy repast of Chinese dishes!  If there's one cuisine that I can totally botch, it's Chinese!

So glad you got to finally see WICKED, DR George.

I saw both AVENUE Q and WICKED on the same summer trip and loved both of them. I'm glad I wasn't a Tony voter becasue to choose between the two of them would have been a horrible decision.

I will say that I adored WICKED and couldn't have been more entertained or satisfied, but when AVENUE Q ended, I had tears in my eyes because I didn't want it to end.

DR MattH, did you (or any other DRs) happen to watch the new tv show, SIX DEGREES last night?

It was really good and had been interested throughout the show.

I'm curious how many people watched it. BUt with Grey's Anatomy as a lead-in I'll bet they did decently.

Anyhow the show basically introduces a character and then they meet someone else.  Then they introduce another character. And we see how all their lives intertwine.

It's by J.J Abrams (LOST) and i thought it sounded intriguing.  And it was. Plus they added a few mysteries.

Oh i meant to mention that i also watched Studio 60 (or whatever that new show is called with Matthew Perry). I actually liked it more than i thought i would (i did not really think it would be my cup of tea).  It wasn't my favorite. But i really liked amanda peet (and the blonde girl who was on Jack and Jill (WB show with her) - the one who plays matthew perry's ex).

BK, I am happy to hear you are enjoying your visit to THE INNER SANCTUM! I love that floating head saying "Even you, without knowing...can commit...MURDER!" LOL!

Those movies played a LOT on TV when I was a kid and I enjoyed them all...but WEIRD WOMAN is my favorite! And, since I also picked up my Inner Sanctum DVD set this week, I shall perhaps watch that one!

Good morning to all the DRs, H/Ks, and Esteemed and rowdy BK --

This is probably the worst example of a Wussburger post....but I just wanted to say good morning to those here, before running out the door for errands and some work.

And now I have to leave.  :(

Got this from my Dad this morning. I thought it was cute.

Subject: pet rules

To be posted VERY LOW on the refrigerator door - nose height.

Dear Dogs and Cats,

The dishes with the paw print are yours and contain your food. The other dishes are mine and contain my food.  Please note, placing a paw print in the middle of my plate and food does not stake a claim for it becoming your food and dish, nor do I find that aesthetically pleasing in the slightest.

The stairway was not designed by NASCAR and is not a racetrack. Beating me to the bottom is not the object.  Tripping me doesn't help because I fall faster than you can run.

I cannot buy anything bigger than a king sized bed.  I am very sorry about this.  Do not think I will continue sleeping on the couch to ensure your comfort.  Dogs and cats can actually curl up in a ball when they sleep.  It is not necessary to sleep  perpendicular to each other stretched out to the fullest extent possible.  I also know that sticking tails straight out and having
tongues hanging out the other end to maximize space is nothing but sarcasm.

For the last time, there is not a secret exit from the bathroom.  If by some miracle I beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it is not necessary to claw, whine, meow, try to turn the knob or get your paw under the edge and try to pull the door open.  I must exit through the same door I entered.  Also, I
have been using the bathroom for years --canine or feline attendance is not required

The proper order is kiss me, then go smell the other dog or cat's butt. I  cannot stress this enough!

To pacify you, my dear pets, I have posted the following message on our front door:

To All  Non-Pet Owners Who Visit & Like to Complain About Our Pets:

1. They live here.  You don't.
2. If you don't want their hair on your clothes, stay off the furniture.  (That's why they call it "fur"niture.)
3. I like my pets a lot better than I like most people.
4. To you, it's an animal.  To me, he/she is an adopted son/daughter who is short, hairy, walks on all fours and doesn't speak clearly.

Remember: Dogs and cats are better than kids because they:
 1. Eat less
 2. Don't ask for money all the time
 3 Are easier to train
 4. Normally come when called
 5. Never ask to drive the car
 6. Don't hang out with drug-using friends
 7. Don't smoke or drink
 8. Don't have to buy the latest fashions
 9. Don't want to wear your clothes
 10. Don't need a gazillion dollars for college, and...
 11. If they get pregnant, you can sell their children.

Good morning, all.

Well, I dozed a bit, but not enough to call it a nap... Finally just gave up around 6:45 and got up to start the day.

CILLALIZ!!! You GOTTA do the audition!!! YES!!!

Today is a busy day - heading out to Cal State LA (That's WAAAAYYY downtown, BEYOND downtown...) to have some GED - endowed "counseler" - than whom I have socks older - peruse my transcripts from the late '60's and early '70's and tell me what classes I'd need to complete a BA in Music... mind you, I have languages (Italian and Russian) in there... I have a year and a half of LACC Theater Arts classes, I have 4 years of Juilliard classes, with mostly A's in there... but NO General Ed classes AT ALL. I think I could probably test out of Freshman English. No use speculating - I'll get the info soon. I'm guessing it'll be two very packed quarters, and I'm done with it. All while I'm doing this first year of my Masters...

Well, you know what they call the person who graduates at the bottom of his med school class... DOCTOR.

This evening is a family get-together at my sister Tami's house (she was in BK's class at Pasteur Jr. Hi and Hamilton Hi) for Rosh Hashanah. I'm bringing asparagus. Tami and her husband, their son and daughter-in-law and HER parents, my sister Rikki and her son and daughter-in-law, and me. Maybe a few "orphans"... Rikki's daughter is working on a film and they are in actual filming right now - so she won't be coming. AND - my brother Mike is married to a shiksa, and their kids wear little gold crosses around their necks... guess who won't be coming to the JEWISH New Year festivities...

And it is a lovely day here at the marina! Gosh, whatta gawjus place! love this condo!!!

I'm working on the changes Bruce and I discussed last night - pretty enthusiastic about this, I tell ya! It's going well - it's basically writing itself now! Wish I had a CD of the songs already!!! I'd make preliminary lead sheets and write-in some dummy harmonies for the duet and ensemble stuff, finagle some of the tunes for underscoring. Music up... CURTAIN!Golleeeee!!! I feel a new rush of inspiration for this piece that I had been BORED NEARLY TO DEATH over... Huzzah! I say, HUZZAH!!

In Defense of vixmom

Yesterday DW BK chided my dear vixmom for her absence from this here website.

The day before yesterday DW BK chided me for my failure to order his dirty book with the   luuuurid  cover.

I forthwith ordered his book.

Thus I have some personal experience with being chided and with egregious absence from this here site.

In defense of vixmom, I would like to point out that she is extremely overworked at her new job.  Oh yes, she is.  At her old job she often had to wait for hours during the day for papers to arrive so that she might do her work, and then she would slave into the night.  This waiting time allowed her the luxury of reading and posting frequently on this here site.

At her present job, she is having last-minute work pushed at her at every moment of the day--and still must slave into the night.  Thus, she has much less time to devote to the important things of life such as this here site.

I, of course, am a teacher, so I have no excuse, since my day consists of nothing but leisure time.   :-\

I will assure you, however, that haineshisway dot com is constantly in vixmom's thoughts, and when I speak with her she talks about the hainsey/kimlets and also about the kimlet/hainseys in the most glowing of terms.

I will also point out that she has been seeing our local hainsey/kimlets and also our local kimlet/hainesys at every opportunity, viz. last Saturday, viz. this coming Saturday, viz. the following Saturday will probably be out least vixdad innitiate divorce proceedings naming haineshisway dot com as correspondent for alienation of affections.

So, my dear old DW BK, chide away!  Chide away!  We can take it!

Thanks for the encouragement.  I think I will audition.  The last 2 shows I was in were both musical revues one a Gershwin tribute and one a Cole Porter tribute. I had a blast doing them and should be able to easily work up one or two of my solos from those shows to use for an audition number.

I never seem to notice audition notices for plays here, but it seems everywhere I turn I'm seeing the notice for auditions for this revue, so maybe the universe is trying to tell me something.

Hmmm... Just noticed the screen-name of the "newest member." One thing for sure - it ain't me! What's with all these so-called new members?

I lived and worked for a few months many years ago in Niagara-on-the-Lake where DEAD ZONE was shot. A lovely little town - home of the Shaw Festival. I remember a gazebo that was in the film...

Happy New Year (5767) to those who celebrate. I just received a very pretty floral arrangement from a producer and his wife. Nice thing for them to do as we haven't worked together in years.

I watched a couple of new shows last night. Liked Six Degrees - but have a feeling it may not survive. Shark with James Woods was also good - because he's so much fun to watch. I think that one might have a chance. Of course, he wipes everyone off the screen (except the young actress who played his daughter and the actress who played his ex-wife) .
...Just looked up the names. The former is Danielle Panabaker; the latter I couldn't find.

"Terracotta Warriors" depicts Chinese history with original music, period costumes, authentic dance, acrobatics and martial arts

By Vicki Smith Paluch Special to the Press-Telegram
U-Entertainment

As a Chinese-American, Dennis Law discovered the richness of his Chinese cultural heritage long after he had become a successful Denver surgeon. A longtime patron of the arts, Law decided to give up his medical practice to follow his passion and new-found love of Chinese performance arts. In so doing, he has created a new musical theater form, which he calls an "action-musical."

Law's action-musical, "Terracotta Warriors," will have its West Coast premiere at the Cerritos Center for the Arts today through Sunday. The show depicts the life and times of the first emperor of China by using an original score, lavish sets and costumes and an eye-popping blend of classical Chinese dance, acrobatics and martial arts.

For those unfamiliar with the story of China's first emperor, Qin Shi Huang, Qin had the Great Wall built, as well as the mausoleum Mount Li, where his tomb was accompanied by a stone army of 7,000 terracotta warriors to protect him in the afterlife.

To match the grandeur of the events that took place in 221 B.C., Law has written, directed and produced a show of epic proportions, featuring 350 costumes, 70 performers and 20 backdrops to illustrate the rapidly changing scenes in the production.

The birthday packages just keep rolling in!  Yesterday, it was a wonderful package of CDs from DR MusicGuy.  They were in my bag this morning for office listening and I failed to mention them in my TOD.  And what a great deal of fun they have been this morning!

Today, DR Jane, aka Nurse Jane sent me a carton of rich chocolate cookies, more like brownies actually.  It's a scientific fact I can add an inch to my overabundant waistline by simply looking at one.  So I eat them instead.

The mail service has been weird all week. The letters and magazines have been coming around noon, back to the usual timee after a couple of months of it being late afternoon for delivery.

Twice this week, I have glanced on the porch in mid-afternoon after bringing in the mail, and there is a package. The Amazon package of those DVDs I mentioned this morning came around 3:30, too late for me to watch anything.

I started my afternoon with the remainder (well over an hour) of BEYOND THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE. Lousy, lousy movie, but a few additional stars did turn up in hour two (Jack Warden, Shirley Knight, Angela Cartwright, Mark Harmon) to go along with the BIG names I mentioned the other day when I started the film. Needless to say, I did NOT dub a DVD-R for myself of this regretable film.

Next came Garbo's last film, TWO-FACED WOMAN. There actually are some bright lines here, and George Cukor directed gracefully. The "Chica-Choca" rhumba number is actually beautifully filmed, and dance director Robert Alton makes a generous partner for Garbo.

Some news about last night's ratings:

In the 8 p.m. hour, SURVIVOR led followed by the GREY'S ANATOMY clip show, and MY NAME IS EARL/THE OFFICE.

At 9, GREY'S ANATOMY scored a surprise win over CSI as the most watched show of the night. GREY'S had 25+ million viewers to CSI's 22 million. DEAL OR NO DEAL finished third.

At 10. ER ruled the roost. ABC's SIX DEGREES came in second losting almost half its GREY'S ANATOMY lead-in while CBS' SHARK came in third, again losing half the audience of its predecessor. More bad news for those two new shows: the audience for the second half of the show dropped off from the first half meaning people were tuning out, not a good sign.

I understand that Canadians got treated to episode 2 of GREY'S ANATOMY last night instead of the season premiere. Some screwup in NYC sent next week's episode via satellite by mistake. Next week, they're going to broadcast the season premiere though whatever surprises were there have obviously been spoiled by this error.

ABC is rebroadcasting last night's premiere at 8 p.m. in the US.

Now, off to take care of some household chores, mop the kitchen, and read more in the Eileen Heckart biography. Then, back to TV/DVDs.

My friend Margo also saw both shows on Broadway.  She loved both, as well.

But she did say that as far as acting in Wicked, she liked Shoshana Bean as Elphaba better than Idina Menzel.  She said that Idina was good and very loud...a lot louder than Shoshana, but there wasn't as much to her performance as what Shoshana offered.  Margo thought that Shoshana actually acted the role and was much more affecting in the part.

DR George - I had forgotten that Shoshana took over the Wicked tour after Julia Murney left.  I think it's great that she's been able to play her hometown.

AND Megan Hilty (Galinda) is from Bellevue, Washington, which is a suburb of Seattle!  They're both local!

DO IT!!  If I can audition after not having performed in public for four and a half years, you can too!! ;D

Deidre Hall  -- I met her once years ago at an event my cousin who wanted to go to and I felt she was incredibly rude for giving us a tongue lashing for accidently bumping into her despite our apologies. Needless to say, I was not impressed with her.

I found Deidre (she said "Please call me Deidre") to be totally charming and even more beautiful in-person than on television.  I guess everyone is entitled to a bad day - even celebrities.

To recap:  Wicked was wonderful!!
That is all! ;D

I have a question about Wicked---

I took my niece to see the touring co. in Atlanta (this is her very favorite show) and at the end of Act 1, I got the feeling that Elphaba was going to fly into the air but then she never did. I heard people around me muttering things to that effect but couldn't get a clear answer. Does she indeed take flight? Maybe there was a "wardrobe malfunction"?

The show was very impressive nonetheless.

Hello all, just thought I'd pop in and say hi. I think you should definately audition cillaliz, you'll have a blast. I've thought about trying out at our little playhouse, but the productions end up so horrible I just don't know. It's all volunteer and they always have crappy directors and pretty much cast whoever shows up just to fill the roles. Kinda sad. It would be fun to perform in a show again...jeeze, it's been over a decade since I've been part of a production. That was back when mom was directing plays in Iowa. Those are some good memories.

Just pop in and we'll call you Mary!!

Emma Williams Withdraws from The Sound of Music
by Theatre.com Staff
Emma Williams has withdrawn from The Sound of Music, where she had been contracted as an alternate Maria. The actress, who first came to prominence as Truly Scumptious in the original cast of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, was expected to alternate with the winner of the television search to find Maria in the BBC TV show How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?, which culminated in drama school graduate Connie Fisher winning the role.

Fisher “will now play all eight performances a week, unless indisposed in which case she would be covered in the usual manner by the understudy,“ according to an official statement. When she won the part, Fisher told the television audience, “I feel on top of the world. I won’t let you down, I promise. Every night will be opening night. Thank you for making my dream come true.”

Producer Andrew Lloyd Webber has insisted on his own website that it is standard practice to hire an alternate. “It was made clear from the outset that we would contract an ‘alternate’ Maria to play two shows a week”, he wrote. “Casting an alternate in a major singing role of this kind has been custom in many West End musicals. I instigated this in 1978 for Evita and also for The Phantom of the Opera.”

The Sounds of Music begins performances at the London Palladium on 3 November.

I"m not sure if everyone got mixed up.  It was on twice (once at 8pm on CTV) at once at 9pm on abc.  I know my parents watch it and watched at 9pm. But i don't know if they got mixed up. They didn't mention anything (and you'd think they would know if they saw the wrong episode).

I had heard about the problems, but since i don't watch i don't know which shows were affected.

As for the one network show I watched tonight - LAW & ORDER - he writers based their case on Britney Spears and Kevin Federline. A new partner for Jesse Martin and a new ADA for Sam Waterston joined the cast today. The new detective switched over from Dick Wolf's CONVICTION (though she played a lawyer on that, and now she's playing a different character).

Enjoyable season opener.

The ratings for KIDNAPPED, the show that replaced LAW & ORDER on WEdnesday night, weren't terrific, so I'm wondering if NBC will move L&O back to WEdnesdays if KIDNAPPED continues garnering mediocre or worse ratings. Seems like they would have learned from HEIST last year that folks aren't really interested in a serialized drama in that hour.

DAMN IT TO HECK!

I cried my eyes out at the season finale of GHOST WHISPERER last Spring; I didn't realize I was going to cry all over again as the new season got under way.  As much as I hate the fact that Andrea is dead, I think the addition of Jay Mohr in the recurring role of the college professor will help the show.  And it could have been worse, they could have killed off Melinda's husband which would have been a real tragedy.

*This may be one of those "I guess you had to be there" moments, but...

We went to Pier 7 for dinner since it's right across the street from the theatre - I just did not want to chance the very unpredictable Friday afternoon traffic, and get stuck in Virginia.  In any case...

Pier 7, if you can't guess from the name, is a seafood restaurant.  Well...  As Andy and I were served our salads, a couple was seated at the table next to us...

"Oh, Pier 7 - A Seafood Restaurant... That's what it says on the menu.
-Oh, yes, I see that now.
"Hmm... There really is a lot of seafood on this menu."
-Yes, there is.
"Do you think you'd like to have some seafood tonight?"
-I think I will, but let me check out the rest of the menu.

He ended up ordering the Prime Rib.  His wife had the Maine lobster.

:)

*And if anyone is interested, I had the Shrimp Norfolk, and Andy had the Seafood Newburg.  ;)

And, actually, it was an interesting night at Cabaret tonight.  Well, more like it was interesting right after the show...

A woman in the front row was so affected by the ending of the show, that she started sobbing.  And her sobbing was quite "vocal".  In fact, you could hear her before the curtain call started and during the call.  And after the curtain call was finished and the actors had left the stage.

Someone in the audience eventually asked out loud if there was a doctor in the house, and then some ushers and the house manager came down to check on her.  She said she was OK, but that she was just totally overcome with emotion.  And she was still crying.  I went ahead and ran backstage to get her a box of tissues, some tea and some water...

And while waiting backstage, it was very easy to tell that the actors had been affected as well by her reaction.  Some people thought that she was having a heart attack.  The whole situation definitely put a pall over the proceedings - and since the ending of Cabaret is not a happy one already...

The power of theatre.

You are such a gentleman, DR Jose!

We know that already but it has to be said again!

Actually, sometimes "it" malfunctions on Broadway too.

*Although, I have to say that when the Transformation does not work in Beauty & The Beast, then it truly does not work.

Now that would be sad.

Aw, shucks.

*I was actually surprised that it took as long as it did for anyone to come to her aid.  Yes, the woman was sitting with friends, but it really did take a couple of minutes for someone from the theatre to check on her.  -And since I knew how to jump the fence as it were to get backstage...

Yes it is.

I remember when Chuck Wagner came off the road company of B&B to take over the role of the Beast on Broadway.  Chuck is a big man - tall and brawny.  He had asked the stagehands if the winch would be strong enough to carry him.  They said it was built to handle X-amount of weight.  Well, Chuck was a couple of pounds over that X-amount.  And he told them so.  Well...  The first night he went on, guess what happened?  Or rather what did not happen.  And guess what did not happen his second night?... or his third?...  Well... Needless to say, they promptly got a new winch for him.

*And those were some mighty "pregnant" blackouts.

Been back a little while from having dinner at Pietrasanta with Tom, Colin and Larry, and then seeing ...SINGING NUN along with Tom and Colin.

SINGING NUN SPOILER

I must say i was shocked at where ...SINGING NUN went in its second act and how effectively it dealt with some serious subject matter, making it all the more powerful due to the huge amount of laughter which preceded the serious material.  And the irreverence continued during the powerful aspcts, without diminishing the beauty of those moments in any way.  Thoroughly engaging and witty score by Andy Monroe, beautifully orchestrated by Elmore, and a laugh-out-loud-then-choke-you-with-emotion book by Blair Fell.  I wish this show a great future life.

It was absolutely lovely to spend some time with Tom and Colin, first at the restaurant (along with Larry)  and then at the show.  I think I restrained myself admirably from punning too much, and we all were surprisingly restrained about dishing too much.

And speaking of WICKED, I believe that's what Tom and Colin are seeing tomorrow night.

I am all caught up and I am exhausted.

I love Tom and Colin, both wonderful gentlemen, and so much fun to hang out with.  I met them at their hotel around 5:30 and we visited until 6:50 when we walked over to meet FJL at Pancetta.  The dinner was lovely, and I had a wonderful time with them until I had to leave for a sound check and to hand out gifts to everyone.

I thought the timing of the first act was a bit off tonight, along with the sound, but the show is such a wonderful and strange piece that the second act played quite movingly.  I'm happy that my dinner companions came to see it.

And now to bed.

DR Elmore, it sounds like you had a lovely time with DR Tom and his freind Colin.

Hopefully the act will be right on in the next performance.

Have a good day tomorrow!
