WHO/WHOM

Well, you've read the notes, whom read the notes, who read the notes, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently debating whether it's correct to say MOO or MOOM.

Good morning, all! Another day of tsuris, I fear, debatng how to respond to an email; I just had to respond to one that was difficult enough. It was also another night of peculiar dreams and much restlessness. I think we have a recording set, I fear we don't, then I think it's back on again, and I don't like the stress. I like the work.

I need more coffee and some food.

re: ebooks not being autographed.

At least for the kindle there is something called kindlegraph (go to kindlegraph.com) where authors can sign their ebooks. Never tried this before.

I'm disappointed. Today is the winter carnival at the park near here. But unfortunately it is going to be colder than -21C. So no fair. :(

Well it seems like the fair is still on. Since i haven't seen any cancellation notice. But it's too cold. That is where they have the sledding, the horse drawn carriages and the toffee on the snow. I really hope they postpone.

I wonder if the Grammy red carpet tonight will be all about Whitney Houston.

Interesting reading about the proofers in the notes.

I think some people just have a gift for finding errors. And i'm not talking commas.  It's sort of crazy though that none of the proofers are finding the same things.

The other night I watched a movie titled SECOND FIDDLE with Tyrone Power and Sonja Henie....with a score by Irving Berlin.  There were two really nice songs....it's too bad Guy Haines has chosen all the songs for his new cd....I had never heard either of them.....

AND

I'm Sorry For Myself - which doesn't seem to have any clips on YouTube....but is lovely and ironic....

Re proofers: I guess it's a good thing several people are reading the manuscript, since they are all finding different things.

While I understand your point, BK, as someone with an English degree, I must at least offer the opinion that writing grammatically is not necessarily "arch", it's simply being correct.  The easiest way to differentiate between who and whom is that "who" always takes a verb.

I only stayed for Betsy's 5 o'clock show, JR, and she did fine.  She was a little nervous, which probably only I realized and therefore had a tendency to say "you know," which I've never heard her do before under any circumstances, but other than that, she got some nice laughs and people seemed to really enjoy her.  Her biggest laugh always tends to be one of the jokes I gave her (naturally ;) ).  She does a routine about GPS and talks about how the voices are always female.  She then says if the unit had a male voice, you'd stick in the address and it would say dismissively, "Yeah, I know where that is."  ;)

My earliest memory of Whitney Houston is of Don Imus making fun of that little horizontal line at the top of her nasal ridge that would appear when she would sing.  He did a whole routine about it on VH1 that I still remember very well.

Thanks for the report DR JMK.......   I like Betsy's routine that includes the line about Jews never seeing a UFO on the way home from temple.

I think in a book like BK's, the voice of the narrator is highly important and if the narrator is consistent, then the reader will likely forgive the writer or not even notice who vs. whom. We all have our pet peeve phrases, though. Stephen King does three or four that grate on me, though I can't think of them this morning.
