Well, you've read the notes, you've moved right along, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - don't worry, they're moving right along.
-
And the word of the day is: TARADIDDLE!
Smoke on your pipe and put that in.
-
Gee, I hurried to get the notes up, and now there's no one in the jernt here, except me and me. Yes, it's one for my baby, and one more for the road.
-
One thing I wanted to say about the anniversary of Black Saturday - I never thought I'd say that good could have come out of that sorry day, but it did - the idea for this here site was born and I put Mr. Mark Bakalor on it right then and he created what would become a wonderful site, perhaps the most wonderful site on all the Internet - an Internet family and community like no other.
-
Pogue is here. He has nothing to say. No DVDs in the DVD player. No CDs in the CD player. I am currently listening to WMKV...Fred Astaire singing A Fine Romance.
-
Well, what's better than Fred Astaire singing A Fine Romance? Not much.
Sandra is also here - Sandra, would you care to do the Lambada (The Forbidden Dance) with me and Pogue? We're dangerous, but we're cherce.
-
The Lambada with you and Pogue, huh? That's pretty tempting, but I'm about to go to sleep. I'm done with this paper (finally!) and DC (Dear Cat) Tumbly, alias Lloyd, is all ready to curl up on my face and go to sleep.
-
Well, here I am at 3:38 in the am. My car alarm just went off, waking me and Freddy out of our deep slumber. I scared off the burglars and now I must wait until daylight so that I can clean up the broken glass and call the insurance company....yes, someone broke into my car!!!! >:(
I am not a happy camper right now, and I want the death penalty to be applied.
Thankfully, nothing was stolen it looks like. When the alarm went off I flew out of bed and turned on all of the lights which must have scared them off.
-
Wow, an example of a car alarm actually working! A rare occurence here in NY where they go off is someone walks by a car too quickly.
I don't mean to make light of your trouble, Michael. I'm glad you were able to scare off the blagards before they either stole the car or did more damage.
I wondered what you were doing up at this hour (in Oregon time).
I have nothing on and nothing in. We are going to the Big Apple Circus tonight and a friend's housewarming tomorrow. Tomorrow is also the last day of the official overtime season here at work. We wind down from then to the end of November (for me, anyway). I will then be on vacation from November 29th through January 1st. Hoo and Ray! I'll do my usual volunteering with the Stephen J. Falat Holiday Basket Project (an Actors Equity/Broadway Cares sponsored initiative to give gift bags to people with AIDS) and then we are off to Dublin for two weeks. We leave on December 16 and return on December 31. Sorry, Antonia/TPunk, we will be in Dublin on December 18, so we can't join you for the rip on Mattress.
I see piles of work on my desk and I'm all alone here so later, gaters.

Movies to Watch
The Hurricane 1937 John Ford film with Dorothy Lamour & John Hall
Hurricane 1974 TV Movie
Hurricane 1979 remake with Mia Farrow and Dayton Kane

It's either thugs from Little India in search of the world's largest Bollywood collection or Myrna Loy wants that drag you've been wearing back.
-
Good morning, all! This is another long day: post office, recording office, Horace Mann School at 3:30 to see goddaughter Charlotte in Durang one-acts, and then perhaps a movei with my friend Tara, who wants to see THE FOG. The movie is tentative since she hasn't confirmed it yet.
I will check in later!

Dear Reader Ron L Pulliam
I AM BEGGING YOU NOW
Please try the Alka Seltzer cold medicine

Matt H - I missed the beginning of CSI last night, where were they? Why didn't they have access to their regular lab? It was good but there were some odd things, like that conversaton Nick had with Sage... she said her bit but seemed to leave out something vital... like what are all you people doing here and what happened to my friend I came to see?
-
Good morning!
Beautiful day #857,549 here in Carolina. High today is supposed to be 81 but it's in the high 60s right now and my walk was very enjoyable.
But this is probably the last hurrah for summer. From the looks of the five day forecast, we're entering a definite downturn in temperatures for both highs and lows. About time, I say!
-
Thank you, DR Ron, for the views on last night's CSI. I will watch this while prepping lunch today.
And I agree with you about George Eads. It was a crime was wasn't Emmy-nominated last year, especially giving that harrowing performance buried alive in the season finale. Looking forward to seeing what he offered up last night.
-
DR MBarnum: I'm so sorry to hear about your car woes. Someone broke into my car when I was in college - they threw a brick through the back passenger window. They got my portable CD player and 25 of my favorite musicals. I'm sure they were disappointed when they opened up the CD case and found LES MISERABLES and EVITA. The worst part was, they broke in at 2 in the morning while I was helping to paint the set for LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS just half a block away. I had a very chilly 45 minute drive home that night! I was horribly disappointed to lose those CDs, but more than that, I felt very violated.
I'm glad you scared them off before they got anything of value.
-
DR JOEY break a leg tonight in SWEENEY TODD....good vibes to you and the rest of the CAST. I am sure the audience will love it. ST was done earlier this month at DePauw to great huzzahs!
-
DR MBARNUM I am so sorry to hear about your car. What a nuisance and violation.
This seems to be the week for car mishaps on HHW....so everyone should be careful.
DR MATTH - I watched SMALLVILLE last night and will only say that Aquaman was NOT chosen for his acting ability which is neglible to be kind.
-
CD: NEW GUY IN TOWN by Mr Guy Haines, and another sparkling prize.
VHS: THE BIG SHOW with Victor Mature, Rhonda Fleming, David Nelson
DVD: THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE remake, I know, I know.
-
I have SMALLVILLE to look forward to as well, DR JRand. I will give a full report once I've seen these shows. Thursday night is really too overcrowded with shows.
-
Another wish for lots of broken limbs for DR Joey on his SWEENEY TODD opening tonight.
One of these days, I'll get to play Judge Turpin. I've auditioned twice and both times was told I was too young looking. I thought that's what MAKEUP was for!
-
Horrified to read your news, DR MBarnum. Nothing makes me madder than a thief. We all work (worked) hard for the money we have, and to have someone take what WE'vE worked so hard for just makes my blood boil.

Friday Media Check:
CD - BRIGADOON (original soundtrack)
DVD - BATMAN BEGINS
KOLCHAK: THE NIGHT STALKER - Disc 1, side B.

BK mentioned the soundtrack to LILI.
Now why hasn't that marvelous classic come out on DVD yet? We have THE DAMNED DON'T CRY, but we don't have LILI?
Something's wrong here.
-
Good Morning!
Well... A ran into an old friend of mine last night on the street on my way to the theatre... It turns out he's now the company manager for the tour, so... We're having lunch today... In a few... So...

Friday Media Check
What's a Media?
What's a Check?
;)
-
Boy, that's as pale a page dance as I've ever seen! Wow!
-
DR MBarnum - I hope your insurance company is fast... And that it doesn't rain today either. ;)
I had my car broken into once too. I was rehearsing a recital when it happened. They took some of my keyboard pedals, a score or two, and my tux(!!). -I still remember having a minor breakdown in the parking lot once it all sank in.
Glad to know that YOU are all right.
-
Boy, that's as pale a page dance as I've ever seen! Wow!
"Dancing In Snow Storm"
;D
-
How remiss of me!
~~~Broken Leg and Slit Throat Vibes for Dear Reader Joey~~~~~
eeeew that sounds awful!!!!
-
When I had a Mustang, I lost two sets of wire wheel hubcaps, and I finally had regular hubcaps put on so they wouldn't be so tempted to be stolen.
That happened when I lived in an apartment and had to park my car out in the open. Haven't had any trouble with theft since I got a house with garage though there is a window in the garage that could easily be broken and the garage entered. I still lock my car inside the garage.
-
...It's like one of those eye test for colorblindness.
-
DR Joey - Break Legs!!!
Swing that razor HIGH!!!
-
"Dancing In Snow Storm"
;D
I'm not sure it's a snow storm. More like a ghost dance!
:D
-
OK - Gotta run...
Laters...
Exactly like one. And I'm not colorblind.
That's the LAST time I use beige!
Shirley Jones sang her own songs in "Carousel," including "What's the Use of Wonderin'
Actually, Marni Nixon dubbed two lines of "If I Loved You" for Shirley Jones.
;D
-
One thing I noticed about films made in Technicolor around 1952-53 like LOVELY TO LOOK AT, THE BAND WAGON, TORCH SONG, and LILI. Before they were remastered or restored, every one of them had blue light shimmers that were present during the movie. Didn't happen constantly, but it did happen in all of them. Is that some print damage or Technicolor registration problem or age damage of some kind, or has it always been there even when the films were new?
On the BAND WAGON laserdisc, it's there, but on the restored BAND WAGON DVD, it's not there any more.
-
OK, I have some Friday errands to run, and then will settle in for lunch, DVR viewing, and my friend Frank joins me at 2 p.m. for BATMAN BEGINS.
WBBL.
-
Dr Rodzinski... what play did you see? You mentioned having friends in it and directing it but not the name of the play
-
DR MBarnum, sorry about your car. But I'm glad you scared them off.
It's a good thing you added that someone actually broke into the car. Because I also thought your alarm simply went off. That happens so often.
But do thieves really still break the glass? I guess they weren't planning on taking your car. Unless they wanted to drive around with broken glass?
-
DR Joey: Break legs tonight!! SWEENEY was one of my favorite stage experiences - exhausting, but wonderful - and I hope it's the same for you.
-
Actually, Marni Nixon dubbed two lines of "If I Loved You" for Shirley Jones.
;D
Was it "Carousel" and Jones you were referencing earlier or was it "Guys and Dolls" and Jean Simmons?
And which two lines of "If I Loved You"...and why?
And could you point me toward a reference? I've been all over Google and cannot find a single connection between Nixon and "Carousel" or Nixon and Jones.
-
Thank goodness it's Friday!
TGIF!
I am so looking forward to the weekend...just because it IS the weekend.
I agree with Mike Barnum's sentiments regarding burglars.
When I lived in Naples, Italy, I was burgled not once, not twice, but THREE times over the course of 5 years.
The first time was the worst. The neighbor behind my villa invited me over to unwind a few days later. We had a few glasses of wine, and the talk turned to what I/we would do if I/we ever actually caught someone in the act.
The neighbor had a large basement, and our minds spun for a while, concocting various tortures we could apply therein.
The idea still appeals to me.
I prefer the biblical solution -- off with his hands!
-
DR Jennifer, ya, I don't think they wanted to steal the car, just steal whatever was inside the car.
Thankfully I park my car right next to my bedroom window so I was able to react right away. Normally I take my car stereo (it has the removeable face) out of the car at night, but I have been getting lazy of late and left it in. I would have been very unhappy if the stereo had been stolen as thieves usually just rip out the whole dashboard...and that would have been quite unseemly.
Well off to call the insurance company and find a windshield replacement store.
-
"The last posting from your IP was 5 seconds ago. Try again later."
What the f***? I just lost a HUUUUGGGE post. >:(
Biblical directives I wish existed:
"If thy neighbor's ass offends thee, kick it!"
-
But do thieves really still break the glass? I guess they weren't planning on taking your car. Unless they wanted to drive around with broken glass?
More often than not, thieves do break glass. Even when the cars are unlocked.
As Mike said, they were probably after anything inside the car, rather than wanting the car itself.
There are the occasional morning drives in to work* when I see a pattern of crime along a street, with shattered glass either along curbs or in driveways. Busy night for some lowlife scumbags.
(*I am fortunate enough to be able to route my daily work commutes through neighborhoods rather than a freeway or busy thoroughfare).
-
I just saw this story
TOKYO - Struggling to lure customers back amid increased competition, McDonald's is adding a new item to its menu in Japan: the shrimp burger.
The 270 yen ($2.40), burger, shown to reporters Friday and set to go on sale this month, is the latest effort by the Japan unit of the U.S. fast-food chain to win over Japanese palates -- and spark sales.
DR Hisaka you must be our "on location" reporter and food critic!! :D
Dear vixmom: Please calm yourself about the Alka Seltzer.
I have taken it in the past. It does nothing for my allergies, which are the main problem I have.
Thanks for the concern.
Ok as long as you tried it. I hate to think about you suffering over there. Are you feeling any better today?
-
Mmm...McShrimp burger. I hope it finds its way over here.
Media check hasn't changed much in a while, except for adding the wonderful sparkling CD that came with REWIND. Finally took Chaka Khan's Epiphany CD out of the player to make room for it.
(note from BK: Had to make a little edit in this post - TMI)
Ah stealing the stereo. Well at least that makes sense. It seems stupid to me, for them to break in if they cannot see something inside that they want! Glad they did not get it.
-
Was it "Carousel" and Jones you were referencing earlier or was it "Guys and Dolls" and Jean Simmons?
I was indeed referencing "Carousel." :)
And which two lines of "If I Loved You"...and why?
The two lines which wereout of range for Shirley (and listening to the soundtrack recording carefully, it's very obvious) - - and with Marni handy, voila!
and I always say 'Two heads are better'n one to figger it out!'
Rain....rain...all day.
-
I'm up, I'm up - barely.
I was awakened at five-thirty by the voices of men talking loudly. I thought it was my neighbors having a fight, but I've never heard a peep from the house that's near the bedroom (the only residence I could possibly hear anything from). So, I tried to go back to sleep, but the voices kept on yakking. I got up and finally realized they were coming from the street, where a big truck was working on some line, and the men were trying to talk over the noise of the motor.
I went to get online to complain, and noticed that there was no cable signal. I called Adelphia and got the recorded message that they were doing maintenence and it would be done on or about six o'clock. I finally went back to bed, and when the phone awoke me at nine, I checked the cable modem box and all was well. Who knew the Adelphia hub was in front of my house - or was it just coincidence that there were workers up there at that time of the morning?
-
I'm eating oatmeal. Why, you ask, am I eating oatmeal at 1:20 in the afternoon? Because it's free and I'm hungry. That's why.
-
Ah stealing the stereo. Well at least that makes sense. It seems stupid to me, for them to break in if they cannot see something inside that they want! Glad they did not get it.
I've heard of times a car window was smashed for less than a dollar in change that was lying in view.
DR MB, smashed windows suck! :(
Not to mention it's an excellent source of iron and a smart and delicous way to lower your cholesterol......or so says the voices on my TeeVee ;D
-
It's about 4 degrees in my office.....We're all wearing our jackets and I desperately wish I had a pair of gloves and maybe some earmuffs! Fortunately (for me) I'll be leaving for a closing soon. I can turn up the heat in my car and get toasty warm.
-
Rain....rain...all day.
It's only threatening here, but it's been grey and cludy and cold.....it's supposed to be rainy all day tomorrow when I was hoping to wander the streets of Manhattan.... ah well that's what subways are for!!
Just set our call times for Kevin's show on Monday - for me, it's an incredibly long day. The camera crew, me, the lighting and sound people, all convene at ten a.m. Kevin and John Boswell will get there about 12:30 or 1:00, and we'll start running things right around 1:00.
Will you be selling DVD's of the show on Kritzerland?
The only thing I saw in those posts were the statements that Marni looped "...and they always say two heads are better than one to figger it out..."
But those are spoken, and certainly not out of Jones' range. Perhaps Jones wasn't available and they needed it right then?
I hate to seem so obstinate about this, but I have been told many things by people over the years....people with connections and people who "knew" insiders who knew things...and yet they still gave me incorrect information.
I love trivia like this, and don't deny its possibility, but I thought it was quite shocking. Thus, I hoped for directions toward something referential that specifically states Nixon did this dub. I've listened to "Carousel" often over the past 40 years, and I've never heard any "obvious" lines out of Jones' range. Of course, I haven't been listening for them and nothing has seemed amiss.
-
Good Afternoon!
What a great lunch! It was wonderful catching up with my friend, Joel. The whole company management things suits him well, and it's kept him "solvent" between tours and auditions. He does miss being on stage, but at least he's very close by it in the meantime. I kept telling him that he looked great, much happier and 'settled'. -"Well, that's because you're not seeing me at an audition where I'm desperate for work." ;)
In any case... He did look great, and I also think he's finally growing into his "character man" attributes. He's got that cute/handsome but still a little bit quirky thing going on. Age is suiting him well. Hopefully, he'll be back on the boards in the neat future.
*He's also one of the few guys that I know that can pull off that sort of bright/dark orange color. He would always wear the same sweater at auditions, and it was orange. And it always looked good on him. When I ran into him last night, he was wearing an orange athletic t-shirt. -"Well, I guessed you recognized me because of the color shirt I was wearing."
;)
-
I hate to seem soobstinate about this, but I have been told many things by people over the years....people with connections and people who "knew" insiders who knew things...and yet they still gave me incorrect information. There's a fellow over at FSM Monthly Messageboard who has had insider access many times, but still makes things up.
Well, if you'd like, I could ask her son, Patrick Cassidy, if he knows anything about this.
;)
-
In other news.... Has In My Life announced their closing date yet?
;)
-Seriously, the one thing that all the reviewers seem to agree on is the sheer audicity and chutzpah that Joe Brooks has to get that animal on stage. Good or bad, they're giving him credit for sticking to his guns and making his dream come true. A truly "one of a kind" experience.
-
And only because I haven't seen it said yet...
Is this a slow news day here on HHW?
;)
-
Well, if you'd like, I could ask her son, Patrick Cassidy, if he knows anything about this.
Yes, PLEASE!
Jose, Ant got the e-mail sent out by Nick about Hairspray. That's GREAT! He's been working steadily since the summer and now a job in Vegas in the winter with two of the original stars. What a great gig. A dear friend of mine worked w/Dick Latessa on They're Playing Our Song and says Dick is one of the sweetest guys in show business. We're really happy for Mr. Dalton.
-
I'm seeing The Color Purple on Wednesday, November 9th at 8pm. Just got a ticket from TDF.
-
The CD of Kevin's show will most likely be our January (late January) selection. The DVD will be for sale on Kritzerland, as well, but probably not until Feb or March - just depends on how long it takes to edit, replicate and package.
-
~~~Fine Weather Until You Get The Glass Replaced Vibes~~~ to dear reader MBarnum
A very good wish. :)
-
Jose I’m set on the itinerary. All I needed were my favorite shops so I know where to return. My niece had also asked where we went.
-
Matt H I didn’t know there was a remote possibility “Commander in Chief” would not complete the season.
As for “Medium”…. Though we enjoyed the last episode very much we didn’t think it was a good as the pervious two. It could be the very corny and predictable final scene. It was if they had two minutes that needed filling and that was the best they could do.
Ron thanks for all “The Robe” details. I was rather young when I saw the movie and without the graphic details of today’s movies the ending blurred in my memory.
-

And by that I mean, "thank you for mentioning that it's on TDF. I've just purchased a ticket for the same evening."
-
Great! And now, I'm going home to get ready for Big Apple Circus.
-
Joey have a great show tonight and loads of fun. :D
-
Jose: Are you in town on the 9th? If so, I can add a ticket to my order... Let me know.
-
In my CD player at work: The Sound of Music, the live Austrian cast recording, sung in German, that I got from www.soundofmusic.de. I also got the German cast recording of The Beautiful Game (it was on sale).
In my VCR: my niece's copy of "Lost" from Wednesday (I taped the wrong channel...dopey me ::)).
In my DVD player: "Broadway Damage" from Netflix, then a couple of other movies that I bought and can't remember.
-

Alas, that will be my second day of rehearsal... Although since we always do "table work" the first few days... Hmm... Ah, well...
*Is anything listed for the first couple of shows?

They've got tickets for Thursday, Nov. 3 - third preview. Alas, I have already paid for my ticket for the 9th - no exchanges. BUT! If you want me to get a single ticket for you on the 3rd, I'd be happy to...

As the Red Queen said to Alice, "Here it takes all the reading you can do to catch up with the posts (you might as well try to catch up with a Bandersnatch!). If you want to post something yourself, you will have to read a good deal faster."
Especially if you are grading tests on Compound Interest and Annuities. Nancy Sinatra missed the exam. (That last line is only for long-term hhw members.)
And now it's time to leave work, run and get a pizza, and watch Joe collapse after mowing the lawn.
So:

DR Ron was correct about CSI and George Eads' performance. (If he could have mustered a tear to run down his cheek, it would have been perfect. He's creid before so it wouldn't have been a first.)
A very surprising, twisty episode. But I was going along with Sara's estimation of the girl's fate. I didn't see how it was possible otherwise.
-
Sounds like Joe Brooks and Rose O'Donnell have much to compare notes about as far as pushing something through, as foolhardy as it is, to see a "dream" fulfilled.
-
Well, no new show any more is signed for a total of 22 shows from the outset, DR Jane. If the show is an instant flop, it means millions in lost revenues for the network, so most shows get an initial order for 6 episodes, and if the ratings warrant, they either get picked up for an additional 7 (to make 13 episodes, enough to last through midseason) or a complete order for another 14-18 episodes. Shows that already have a 13 episode commitment are often picked up for "the back 9," again making a total of 22 episodes.
COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF went from the initial 6 to the complete order of 22 due to its smash ratings. Other new shows that have been picked up for the entire season off 22 episodes so far are MY NAME IS EARL, SURFACE, EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS, CRIMINAL MINDS, and HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER.

Julie Andrews -- director -- puts `The Boy Friend' on the road
NEW YORK --On a warm mid-May morning in a drab, sixth-floor rehearsal studio on West 26th Street, a young woman stands in the middle of the room and sings a plaintive song of yearning called "Is It Really Me?" from the musical "110 in the Shade."
"Lovely. Lovely," murmurs a distinctly proper and very British voice that theater and movie-musical buffs instantly would recognize. Eliza Doolittle. Guenevere. Mary Poppins. Maria von Trapp.
Julie Andrews is offering encouragement to a hopeful performer auditioning for a role in a production of "The Boy Friend," the Sandy Wilson musical that will play the Goodspeed Opera House in East Haddam, Conn., and then tour the country.
For singer Jessica Grove, it is the beginning of a new chapter in her budding career. For Andrews, it is something new, too. She is now Julie Andrews -- director.
"It just feels that every single thing I've ever done in my life is now brought to bear on this aspect of my career," the star of "My Fair Lady," "Camelot" and "The Sound of Music" says months later -- after "The Boy Friend" had opened its summer run in Connecticut and was preparing to go on the road. "And I'm enjoying it immensely."
Andrews sits in a corner suite (complete with piano) in the Carlyle, a swank Upper East Side hotel. Dressed entirely in white -- white pants, white blouse and a white baseball cap -- she talks about her introduction to New York and "The Boy Friend," the show that first brought her to Broadway from England in 1954.
"New York was an assault on my senses in every way," recalls Andrews, who turned 19 the day after her Broadway debut. "We didn't have enough money for my parents to come. I came alone, unchaperoned.
"I was very green and very green about being in America. An 18-year-old girl is like a 16-year-old girl over here. I felt very young and out of my depth. I would stop in shop doorways because I would get so dizzy from the pace."
Yet Andrews not only survived, she triumphed in Wilson's affectionate spoof of 1920s musicals, a loving lampoon of classic shows of the period such as "No, No, Nanette."
Ask the 81-year-old Wilson, who wrote the show's book, music and lyrics, to describe Andrews' performance of more than 50 years ago, he smiles and sighs, saying only, "Pure silver. Pure silver."
Andrews has brought her intimate knowledge of the show to the Goodspeed revival, a journey that first began in 2003. The place: the Bay Street Theatre, a Long Island playhouse in Sag Harbor, N.Y., run by daughter Emma Walton, Walton's husband Stephen Hamilton and Sybil Burton, the ex-wife of Richard Burton.
It was Walton, who first suggested that her mother direct "The Boy Friend," persisting while Andrews came up with reasons not to do it, particularly the thought of possibly failing at a theater run by her daughter.
"We told her we would surround her with so much support and love that she couldn't possibly fail," Walton said, offering the best actors and production assistance she could find. "We would be there every day for her. And truthfully, if not here, where? She would be surrounded by people rooting for her."
The engagement proved so successful that Goodspeed Musicals, which operates the quaint Victorian theater on the banks of the Connecticut River, came calling, offering a production there in the summer of 2005 and then a North American tour.
"When we heard about the Bay Street production and how wonderful it was, we knew audiences would love this musical and that it would be perfect for our first touring venture across the country," said Michael Price, executive director of Goodspeed Musicals.
How did Andrews approach a new production of "The Boy Friend"?
"The only thing I knew was that it should be as truthful and gentle as possible," she says simply. "I'd like the piece to represent a time of complete innocence between the two world wars."
The musical is set in the south of France, in a fairy-tale enclave of rich girls and boys whose thoughts of romance dominate the airiest of plots of love, both lost and found.
Andrews enlisted the help of her ex-husband, Tony Walton, a veteran set and costume designer and father of Emma. The director suggested the show look like a Raoul Dufy watercolor, with a design emulating the French painter's transparent, light-searing images. Tony Walton readily agreed.
Auditioning performers was not easy for Andrews. She calls the process "painful."
"I've been there and done that, so I do have enormous empathy for actors," she says. "I guess I draw on my own experience. I think I'm able to sense insecurities."
For the actors, "The Boy Friend" was more than just an audition.
"The difference is I grew up watching her in the movies," says Grove, who, until now, was best known for playing Dorothy in a touring version of "The Wizard of Oz."
"She was an actor first and somebody I've always looked up to. You walk into the room and you think `I want Julie Andrews to think I am good enough.' I probably was more nervous than I've ever been for any audition."
Nervous or not, Grove got the role of Polly, the same part Andrews played a half-century ago.
On the first day of rehearsals in June, the director asked the cast to jot down on a piece of paper where they thought their characters might be coming from.
"What it did was bring us together as a company," Andrews says of the descriptions.
Everyone got a moment center stage to read what they had written, and it gave Andrews an idea of how well the performers understood the musical.
"They all complied brilliantly," she says, "and some of them were so outrageously funny. A silly exercise, but it worked. It was a great moment for the whole company to get to know each other. And from then on, we were away and blocking scenes."
If the songs and the situations could be thought of as frivolous, Andrews doesn't think of them as such. She is a stickler for absolute fidelity to the lyricist's intentions.
"Lyrics are really part of the scripted storytelling put to music," she says, adding that she urged performers to carefully think them through before they sing.
"If you've got the right image and the right picture in your head, it makes a huge difference. The more you work with words in songs, the more you will find your texture. These are light, light songs, but if you really infuse them with a genuine character and reality, they will hold up much stronger."
But Andrews' rehearsals were anything but dogmatic.
"She is very nurturing," says Grove. "In a way, she thinks of us as her children. She is very calm, she never raised her voice once. She is very positive and I feel her positive energy brought the company together."
Andrews didn't ask her husband, movie director Blake Edwards, for advice and he didn't offer any. "This one's yours," he told her.
"However, I have to say, based on having watched him -- we've done seven movies together -- and I've watched him on many another set, I can't say that I didn't pinch a couple of things."
She also remembered working with Moss Hart, the legendary theater director who guided her on stage in both "My Fair Lady" and "Camelot."
"That's the best learning experience I've ever had. Moss was my mentor. He gave me a great gift. I actually say to myself, `I wonder if Moss would approve -- or Alan Jay Lerner (book writer and lyricist of "My Fair Lady"). What would they think?' It's just a little reminder that they were the giants, and I was lucky to work with them.

Hello François and WFO - Long time no posts.
-
I thoroughly enjoyed BATMAN BEGINS. For a comic book movie about a dark hero, it was superbly designed and very well executed. The jumps in continuity gave the beginning an unease that I quite appreciated (no surprise coming from Christopher Nolen who triumphed with even more convoluted execution in MEMENTO), and while the tone was quite somber, there was just enough wry humor to keep things hopping. (And I didn't find the one liners and witticisms as cheesy as they were in Joel Schumacher's two BATMAN films.)
Yes, I had some problems with the film. Katie Holmes was a disastrous choice for the ADA, and my disdain has nothing to do with her headlined "romance" with Tom Cruise. She's a pallid actress (we're talking Elisabeth Rohm uninteresting) with nothing much to offer, and I can only say the decision to excise her from future installments was well founded.
I didn't much approve of whom the villain turned out to be. It worked OK, and it didn't go against any BATMAN lore that I'm familiar with, but the Scarecrow himself could well have been villain enough for me.
I had no problems with the extensive CGI used in the film. I can't imagine a comic book movie made today without it (and its use was much better integrated than the very cartoony CGI used in the two SPIDER-MAN films). In the old days, filmmakers relied on very obvious (to us today) rear projection, miniatures, and matte work. Every era has its own peculiar tools for filmmaking. BATMAN BEGINS integrates them quite well.
I think they've made a wise choice with Christian Bale as Batman. He's young enough to grow through several sequels, and the dark tone without the overly morbid atmosphere of the Tim Burton BATMAN films was much to my liking.
So, yes, I did have a very different reaction to the film than bk.

Before my company arrived, I also had time to watch last night's JOEY. It actually had some funny stuff. John Larouquette was once again the guest star, and Matt LeBlanc having another funny actor to play off of worked well. Jennifer Coolidge is also the show's greatest asset as befuddled agent Bobbie.
-
This leaves me with SMALLVILLE to watch tonight, and then I'll probably go with I WALKED WITH A ZOMBIE off the DVR.
-
Hello François and WFO - Long time no posts.
Well, I let Dame Julie express herself; she has better things to say than me! :)
-
I just finished the Austrian The Sound of Music. I must say that I enjoyed it very much! It's a live recording and they edited it so that it's just the songs with a few snippets of dialogue every once in a while and applause in between the songs. They performed mostly the original Broadway version, meaning that they didn't add "I Have Confidence" that was written for the movie, and Maria and "Mutter Oberin" sang "My Favorite Things" before Maria leaves the convent for the first time. And the two songs with Max and Elsa are performed. The only song from the movie that they added was "Something Good." They didn't do "An Ordinary Couple."
I think that it's pretty cool when an English language musical that's set in another country and is supposed to be in another language is actually performed in that language. I'd love to have a Swedish cast recording of A Little Night Music, French cast recordings of The Phantom of the Opera and Menken & Schwartz's stage version of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, a Japanese cast recording of Pacific Overtures(!) and and Italian cast recording of Passion. Things like that. Umm...anyone have these?? ;)
-
So you're the boyfriend?
-
The English cast of "Sweeney Todd" - does that count?
-
The Australian cast of "The Boy From OZ'
-
Thanks for the car vibes. Soon the window man will be here and all will be a distant memory. I am lucky to have full coverage...I feel for those whose cars are broken into, and whose things are stolen, who can't afford the insurance deductible!
I am also fortunate that nothing was stolen!!
and in the scheme of things...a broken window is not much of a disaster.
-
Just got this off the internet:
"Gordon Lee, the chubby child star who played Porky, Spanky McFarland's little brother in the classic Our Gang short comedies, died in a nursing home in Minneapolis after a battle with lung and brain cancer. He was 71."
Sad to see this.

TOTD:
DVDs: Muppet Show - Season one. "Porko Rosso"
CD: Paul McCartney: "Chaos & Creation in the Backyard"
-
So you're the boyfriend?
YES!
AND Blakie does NOT approve of it!
Wonder if National Enquirer has the story already?! :D
-
You can add ABC's INVASION to the list of new shows that have picked up for a full season of 22 episodes. The pickup was just announced today.
-
The English cast of "Sweeney Todd" - does that count?
Do you actually have this??
The Australian cast of "The Boy From OZ'
I have the original Australian cast recording of this without Hugh and the OBC with him.
Of course, the preference for me is for shows with non-English language settings performed in the language of wherever it's supposed to be set. But yea, that's what I'm talking about. Although I have it (who doesn't), even the Broadway cast recording of Company would count. ;D
-
That is sad news, MattH, Porky was always my favorite as a kid watching the Little Rascals after school.
-
Yes, the gang is leaving us one by one, sad to say (remembering that Butch left us a week or so ago). I wonder who is the oldest surviving Our Gang member now?
-
Off to tackle that dang old kitchen floor. I'll return later tonight with comments on SMALLVILLE.
-
Do you actually have this??
Of course! : Denis Quilley & Sheila Hancock
And I thought you were a Sondheim fan/. LOL
-

Unfortunately, if it's not commercially released, I don't usually have it. ::)

As Blanche DuBois says, I have always depended on the kindness of strangers. ;)

Hint, hint...nudge, nudge...wink, wink!

Marni Nixon is 'Giving up the ghost'
By Milton Bass
Unlike old soldiers, Marni Nixon at 73 has no intention of fading away.
"I'm not quite sure about my high Fs," she said in a recent interview, "but I must live right because my voice can still sound exactly like it did 50 years ago. As far as I’m concerned, I’m just beginning and although the road is harder than it used to be, I try to keep in shape and I’m still going strong.”
Nixon, of course, is famous as "The Ghostess With the Mostess" because she dubbed the singing for Audrey Hepburn in the movie version of "My Fair Lady," for Deborah Kerr in the movie version of “The King and I” and for Natalie Wood in the movie version of “West Side Story.” She also did singovers for various other actresses in films and television, ranging from Marilyn Monroe in her prime and Ethel Waters past her prime.
Nixon has become a familiar entertainer in the Berkshires through her association with the Barrington Stage Company. Artistic director Julianne Boyd cast her in the stunning production of "Cabaret" a few years ago and since then Nixon has been returning to the BSC each summer in her one-woman show that is basically a musical autobiography.
She started her musical career in her native California as a violinist at the age of 9 but it was her pure soprano that netted her the roles in various productions until she got her big break in "The King and I."
"Somebody else had been hired to do the singing," she said, "but it didn't work out and 10 days before the production was to start they were stuck. I had been doing incidental voices and they asked me to lay down a track. They played it for Richard Rodgers and he approved and two days later I started the job.”
The only one of the potentates who really respected the kind of work Nixon was doing was Leonard Bernstein, and he showed his appreciation by giving her a small percentage of his royalties from the "West Side Story" movie.
Several years went by before she was able to talk her way backstage at one of his concerts to thank him for what he had done. She knocked on his dressing room door and he opened it himself, looked at her and said: "Well, well, well. Marni Nixon Gold. 9040 Hollywood Hills Road, Los Angeles, California."
"Can you imagine that?" she asked, still incredulous all these years later. "He not only remembered me but he remembered my address. How did he know my address? Can you imagine that?”
Nixon also spent a couple of years touring with Victor Borge and then Liberace. She was the soprano who sang seriously while they clowned around.
What about the famous moment when the soprano shrieks and Borge falls off the piano stool to the floor? "Mine," she said. "I created a lot of stuff for him. He refused to rehearse or tell me what he was going to do. He would say things like 'When you hear B minor, sing “Summer Time." One night he stuck a banana in my mouth when I was about to sing. I never knew from one show to the next what we were going to do.
"Liberace was totally different, but he also liked to improvise. He did everything himself. Picked the material. Designed my costumes. We would have a production meeting and he would say 'You are Miss Malaprop. So just be natural.' He was like a computer brain. He was magic." Nixon thought to herself for a moment.
"Borge was a wonderful musician," she said, "but a skinflint. Liberace was totally generous. He came to me and said that the next tour was going to be throughout the South, one night stands. He said the living conditions would be tougher and the travel more arduous. I told him I didn't think I wanted to do it. He pleaded with me but I decided that it wasn’t for me. I was tired. When he saw that I wasn’t going to change my mind, he started to cry. But I didn’t go.”
Nixon has traveled all over the world doing concerts and in touring productions.
"I love the Mozart soubrette roles, lots of coloratura roles," she said.
"In addition to my one-woman show, I have done a series of Wolf songs in concert this year, and the early songs of Franz Waxman. I do a lot at colleges and give master classes in voice. Last year I did 'Follies' with Blythe Danner for three months when they needed a replacement. I’m as busy as I want to be but now I only do things that interest me. I’m also trying to write my autobiography. Right now it’s called ‘Marni: Giving up the Ghost.’ I have two chapters done but I need a ghost writer. I had one but she started changing my quotes so I dropped her."
Nixon has been married three times and had three children with her first husband. Her son, Andrew Gold, is a songwriter and performer. He wrote the "Thank You for Being My Friend," children's classic and the theme song for the "Golden Girls" TV series. Her older daughter is a Los Angeles psychologist and her younger daughter is a singer-songwriter. There are five grandchildren to complement the group. Her present husband, Al Block, is a retired jazz musician who is now “a symphonic flutist and a tennis bum.”
Any thoughts of retiring? "I'm just beginning," she said vigorously. "I try to keep in shape. I’ll see you next year."

OH! DR Jason and Ben to pass on to Ant - Nick got Hairspray in Vegas!!! -Which also means I can have my "room" back at the place in Harlem. :-)
Why, there hasn't been a lesbian in this house since your grandma died.
I'm back from seeing 8 Durang one-acts and the Tennessee Williams parody FOR WHOM THE SOUTHERN BELLE TOLLS had me rolling on the floor.

On the Marni Nixon - Shirley Jones subject - I heard it first from Bob Gutowski, a New Yorker, who insisted that it was common knowledge - perhaps, Marni discussed it in one of her shows. . .
Of course "common knowledge" is so reliable - and from a New Yorker too. A simliar source told me that Sondheim had written a complete "Sunset Boulevarde" some 25 years ago but was waiting for Angela to be old enough for the role. The same source said that Mr Sondheim was close to death from "the plague) at that time.
Of course there is the "it's in print or on the NET - it must be true!"
Cynical moi.
Possibly true but unlikely and unnecessary (emergency!)- but what's the use of wond'rin'?. I would agree with Ron - Ms Jones would have had no difficulty with any of those notes.

Thanks for asking about the back. It is getting better and so are a lot of other things. That I hope to reveal soon.

When I had a wonderful opportunity to work with Miss Lansbury we talked about her and Sunset Blvd.
Few months later I met Mr. S and asked him about that. He said he had no plans to write the musical version of Sunset Blvd. Angela was being hopeful and the publicity machine was at work.

Well, no new window on the car yet. The guys came out and vacuumed up the glass pieces and took apart the door but found they had the wrong window for my car. They brought the one that the computer at the shop told them was correct...but, alas, it was not.
So the correct one is one order, which will take 3 to 5 business days...I am expecting that by next Friday I should have a window in my rear passenger side.

Is this something kinky in "special interest" Oregon venues?
-
Happy now, DRJed?
-
Windy, cold and rainy!
The weather in November sounds just like what we experienced in April. Not the "April in Paris" we had expected. ;D
My first day there was the last day of a heat wave and then the rain, cold and wind arrived.

I'm here to tell you that Mr. Stephen Sondheim never set one note to paper for Sunset Blvd. Total BS.
In conclusion, BS for SB! :D
-
Back for a mo, but must shower and get ready for opening night.
I'm here to tell you that Mr. Stephen Sondheim never set one note to paper for Sunset Blvd. Total BS.
My point exactly. lol
common knowledge - knowledge not to be trusted!

Hope it won't hurt too much and that you'll get a good view from there! :D

What a lazy bum that Mr Sondheim is!! ;)

And my Bollywood movie for the weekend will be....
TULSI VIVAH (1971). This is the story of Lord Shiva's fury of Lord Indira's three worlds...in other words, gods and demons will be duking it out in the mythological treat starring former wrestler Dara Singh.

It was a beautiful afternoon so we decided to sit on the deck before dinner to enjoy the view along with some wine, cheese and crackers. So off I went to the market for the cheese. The market is conveniently located in the same very mini-strip mall as my cleaners. In-between the two stores I spied a little dog just sitting in front of the pizza restaurant.
Dogs waiting outside of stores are very common in Ashland so I didn’t pay much attention at first. Another woman was concerned and checked the dog’s collar. Not finding a tag aside from a license she went home. Now I thought I guess I should just pop into the pizza place & see if someone claims the dog, no one did. Then I checked her tag again & found a phone number taped to the back of her tag. Turns out Gracie opened the door to her house and took herself down to her favorite place to beg for pizza (which someone was nice enough to provide her with). I waited with Gracie until her father arrived to pick her up.

Danise slept the day away. Maybe she is now sleeping the night away.
Good resting & healing vibes Danise.

Well, I frequently do that myself: leave my place, go and beg for Pizza!
Does it work? NO! And noone checks my tag either!
Oh, cruel world! :D

At the time of SWEENEY TODD, all the magazines as the press were circulating the SUNSET BLVD rumors. . .still, if you listen to CAROUSEL's soundtrack recording, or as I did, listen to the dvd, you'll hear Marni singing Julie's lines. . .who can explain it, who can tell you why? Maybe Shirley was unavailable for a re-loop, while Marni was available. . .
-
Hummm, if it's a dale it might be td!! ;)
So saith Francois the Flatterer, the wastrel. ;D

Isn't "Who can explain it, who can tell you why?" from "Some Enchanted Evening" in South Pacific?
-
...Now I'm singing through Carousel in my head just to check...
-
Matt H thanks. I was sure “Commander in Chief” was a hit. So far “How I Met Your Mother” makes us laugh. Still haven’t seen Chris or “Criminal Minds”
What is the show that replaced “Trial by Jury”?
INCONCEIVABLE which lasted three episodes. Dick Wolf's new lawyer show (featuring young ADAs but will utilize the sets from TRIAL BY JURY) is called CONVICTION. It will not carry the LAW & ORDER brand name. I expecting it to go into that Friday at 10 time slot though there has been some talk that NBC would move LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT from Sunday to Friday. I don't think NBC will waste a new show against the juggernaut that is DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES when L&O:CI does just fine there (usually second in the time slot).
-
In any case...
Good Evening!
Back from Joseph.
DR Ron Pulliam - I was not able to chat with Mr. Cassidy earlier tonight since the backstage area was rearranged due to the weather - ??? So... But I did ask my friend Joel about the autographed photo, so... I'll keep you posted.
:)

Now, even Jose's getting confused by the whole story!
I don't think td's quotting the lyrics of the song! He's just "referring" them
rhetorictlycally, if I may say so that way! LOL!
-
Maybe Marni "looped" for Norma Desmond in ALW's version of "Sweeney Todd" as she sang "Younger Than Springtime".
-
Watched I WALKED WITH A ZOMBIE tonight. FIne movie and the JANE EYRE steal was very obvious, but it was still atmospheric and enjoyable. When the TCM print wasn't damaged, it looked very good with rich, deep blacks and superb contrast and sharpness.
But, oh, that print! Scratches, spots, and flashing all over the place, always at times that would take me right out of the movie. Really very frustrating.

Maybe "rhetoriclyrically" - ???
-
For some reason I have a David Gates tune running through my head. "It Don't Matter to Me".
-
I also watched SMALLVILLE tonight. Wow! I didn't find the acting of the actor playing Aquaman that problematic (let's face it; the cast is not made up of Barrymores, and he fit right in with their level of performance), and he and Superboy made a dymanic team once they starting working together. Plus, his physique made Tom Wellig's look underdeveloped. Tom needs to hit the gym!
What a spectacular debut for him! And the ratings were up for SMALLVILLE, too, on Thursday night. I have a feeling a star was born. I wouldn't be at all surprised for him to make a return appearance, and even a spin-off might work.
-
I know... I'm gonna write Norma Todd, the Barberesse of Sunset Blvd!
-
It's all Jose's fault, anyway. . .but these posts tonight sure do have me laughing out loud.
. . .and "who can explain it," was merely me referencing another R&H show. . .
And Francois, you're simply, too too.
Now, I must get back to my chippendale dancing.
-
Maybe "rhetoriclyrically" - ???
Yes, I believe the Sherman Bros might have written a song about that! :D
If not, they SHOULD!!
-
I know... I'm gonna write Norma Todd, the Barberesse of Sunset Blvd!
As for me, whilst dancing, I'm gonna wash the Todd right outta my hair.
-
Ah! Chip and Dale. Great artists in the furniture world.

Yes, you must keep those muscles in shape, or is it those chipmunks? I don't know!

I think our Marni topic has gone to the birds.
-
For some reason I have a David Gates tune running through my head. "It Don't Matter to Me".
Im my head, a river runs through it! Should I blame Brad P.?
-
I finshed LOVELY TO LOOK AT tonight. I guess I had never paid that much attention to the climactic fashion show sequence before. Vincente Minnelli was brought in to direct it, and it does have a dynamism missing from much of the rest of the movie. Of course, Vincente stole from himself for many of the motifs for the fashion show. I saw elements from ZIEGFELD FOLLIES' "This Heart of Mine" and "Limehouse Blues."
I remember reading a Kathryn Grayson interview in GOOTA SING, GOTTA DANCE where she described her misery in filming this number. She was VERY dissatified with Adrian's design for her fashion show dress with her ample bosom encrusted with grape clusters making it look even more enormous. In the sequence, she keeps her hands up and over it as much as possible, and when Howard Keel joins her, she pulls him in close to further hide the bodice of her dress.
I have to say that though there are many terrific designs of his in the fashion show, I hated most of the clothes for the women in the rest of the movie. He uses these enormous bows and waist additions that make the women look gigantic.
-
Im my head, a river runs through it! Should I blame Brad P.?
Don't blame Brad, blame Jose for that, and any other, legends of the fall.
-
I think our Marni topic has gone to the birds.
Oh, did she dub Tippi Hedren's voice, too, in that movie.
I'm sure that was Marni chirping when those finches flew down the chimney.
-
I think our Marni topic has gone to the birds.
We should put it on tapes! You know... Marni... Nixon... tapes! Ah! ;D
-

No! Robert Redford or Jose.
-
We should put it on tapes! You know... Marni... Nixon... tapes! Ah! ;D
But then there'd be thirty-nine steps missing. . .instead of eighteen minutes.
-
Thank for the pics of Chip and Dale. Mike Shayne will be pleased. Was it Chip or Dale who had the Achy Breaky Heart?
Of course Alvin, Theodore and Simon sang about it too.
-
Oh, did she dub Tippi Hedren's voice, too, in that movie.
I'm sure that was Marni chirping when those finches flew down the chimney.
No, that was Shirley Jones! She WAS available for the looping!! ;)
-
I also put BATMAN BEGINS back in the player and watched the first hour of it again. If there was any confusion from the arrangement of the opening sequences jumping back and forth in time, a reviewing made everything very clear. It also provided a very clear indication of who the villain turned out to be, but I was studying other things and missed it.
The fight scenes throughout the picture were edited much too choppily. I don't know if that was done to give it some MTV zip for those with two second attention spans or whether it was done to mask poor stunt work or to hide obvious stunt doubles standing in for the stars. Whatever, it was too frantic for my taste. The climactic fight with Batman and the villain was really framed very badly. A lot seemed to be happening below the frame and thus out of sight.
-
I have been completely lazy tonight. I basically piled up on my bed and watched TV...and maybe napped a little, too.
After getting $400 worth of tickets to JERSEY BOYS for my parents and aunt and uncle, I mosied up to the Met to pick up five tickets for AIDA for next Saturday night. I got my employee discount - $40 for best available in the orchestra level. We got $750 worth of tickets for $200. Not a bad deal...and we're sitting Center Orchestra, Row W. Very nice...
After picking THOSE tickets up, my mom called to tell me that my aunt really wants to see MAMMA MIA!, so I got $350 worth of tickets for THAT show on Sunday night. We're in the third from the last row of the mezzanine. :-\
-
Page 8 Lucy Dance!!!

Favourite Marni Nixon quote:
"If you let me, I will dubya!"
-
Jersey Boys! Out of fashion!
Today it's Speedo Boys! (Ooooh!)
-
Off to bed now.
Hope everyone enjoys the rest of his day.
Good night!
-
I'm back from seeing THE FOG. There were a few creepy moments, but I liked the original one better.
And so, good night, all!
-

And so, good night, all!
The French version is called The Frog! :D
No, it doesn't star Gérard Depardieu!
-
Gosh Larry, a person can't take you anyplace!
Oh, Mike...folks have learned to step over him by now. New York is SO much different from every place else!
:D
-
I want DR Jose to know that I dutifully snuffled a bottle of saline this evening.
It was awful.
Only one nostril cooperated. The other one wouldn't budge. Since the object is to shoot water up one nostril and let it come out the other, I have to tell you I swallowed quite a bit of that water when that one nostril refused to let any of it out.
Funny thing that....I could shoot water up the uncooperative nostril (that wouldn't expel any water) and it dutifully came out the other nostril. But no way was it going to let any out.
I think I'm clogged or something.
I may need to call Roto-Rooter.
But I'm still breathing easier, albeit on one side only. It makes me feel all lopsided, too.
-
Re: My last two posts -- That'll teach Larry Moore and Matt Hough to go to bed before midnight!
And where the frell is Jose?
-
I watched my tape of "Smallville" this evening. Quite a diversion from the past few shows of the new season.
Aquaman was a nice change of pace....and James Marsters (whom I believe is "Brainiac") was interesting. He was the one who got out of the spacecraft Lex Luthor has in one of his warehouses. It will be interesting to see how his relationship with Clark Kent as student/teaching assistant develops.
Lex is finally, mercifully, developing into an arch fiend.
-
Aussie! Aussie! Aussie!
-
Are you still there/here, Tomovoz?
Or have you gone, leaving nothing but your name in limbo?
-
Catching up of course . Better than catching allergie reactions.
"Allergies" - Paul Simon on his wonderful but mostly neglected "Hearts and Bones" album.
-
So.
How's the weather down there? Is summer moving in or is it upon you?
-
It seems the West Coast contingent all have better things to do this evening.
I don't mind talking amongst myself, though.
I'm easily amused/diverted.
-
I'm known (to myself) for my singing/dancing/doing a little commercial for myself.
Especially when I think God might be looking!
-
Summer is another 9 weeks away Ron. Unsettled Spring weather . We do need the rain though.
-
BTW "Cinderella" was not issued here in the same pack. I guess it was decided that much of the "extra" material (Eg Cinderella stories) would not be of interest.
-
Summer is another 9 weeks away Ron. Unsettled Spring weather . We do need the rain though.
How lovely. Spring.
We've had some Spring-like weather lately. The only clue it's fall is a few dry leaves on the ground.
So the end of December is when Summer begins for you?
I have occasionally wondered what you all make of northern hemisphere Christmas imagery with snow, and everyone all bundled up and rosy-cheeked.
And "White Christmas" the movie. And "Holiday Inn" the movie.
And, while I'm on the subject, I am eager, eager, eager to get the upcoming DVD for "Christmas in Connecticut."
-
BTW "Cinderella" was not issued here in the same pack. I guess it was decided that much of the "extra" material (Eg Cinderella stories) would not be of interest.
Well, if I'm not mistaken, there were three separate issues here...a collectors special edition with extra stuff, like a princess' crown; a platinum 2-DVD edition; and a single-DVD edition.
-
Whoops! That should have been 5 weeks not 9.
(Senior's moment).
We're still likely to have Snow scenes on Christmas cards.
It's become fashionable to celebrate "Christmas in July" here - more appropriate for traditional Christmas food.
Pity the poor guys here in December who are Department store Santas.
-
Did Marni Nixon dub all the voices in "White Christmas"?
-
I rather think you would have enjoyed some of the background stuff..."The 'Cinderella' That Almost Was" and the piece on "The Nine Old Men" and the piece on the movie, itself, and the section on the music, especially that which was not used along with footage and storyboards. THAT was good stuff of interest to any Disney fan, I'd think!
-
But what...
-
..do I know...
-
..of the Aussie home video market...
-
...mindset?
-
I could, after all, be mistaken.
-
But I think you would love it.
-
I have the platinum one. I've not watched it yet. I've also not even managed to get to "Bambi" either.
-
Did Marni Nixon dub all the voices in "White Christmas"?
No, I think she was busy at Fox dubbing all of Ethel Merman's numbers in "There's No Business Like Show Business."
-
It was the American one I bought Ron. The wonderful world of amazon.
-
And I thought Lisa Kirk did that. Shows to Go.
-
I have the platinum one. I've not watched it yet. I've also not even managed to get to "Bambi" either.
Me, neither, but I'm gonna get to "Bambi" soon. I only recently acquired "The Little Mermaid' and "Pinocchio" (issued years ago).
I see they've issued what they are calling "the original" "Tarzan" on Disney DVD.
What the heck do I have in my double-DVD case with the artwork of the drawing of Tarzan? I don't think it's been more than five years, has it, since that was issued?
-
It was the American one I bought Ron. The wonderful world of amazon.
Oh, I see. So you do have all the extras at your disposal!!
I think you'll love most of them.
-
And I thought Lisa Kirk did that. Shows to Go.
No, I think Lisa was busy dubbing Ann Miller's taps for "Kiss Me Kate".
-
That's why I was wondering if mine from Amazon would arrive before yours? It didn't - but close!
-
Do your birds migrate at any point during the year, Tom?
I'm of the opinion that here in the Bay Area, all the birds pretty much stay put.
It has been a long time since I saw migrating flocks in the skies. But they used to be a common sight when I was growing up on the east coast of the U.S.
-
No, I think Lisa was busy dubbing Ann Miller's taps for "Kiss Me Kate".
LOL.
-
That's why I was wondering if mine from Amazon would arrive before yours? It didn't - but close!
Of course. I remember. NOW.
:-\
-
It's tough getting old.
There are things I do every day without missing a beat, but the one thing I almost always can't remember is to remove my garage door clicker (i.e. remote opener) from my car when I lock up and go upstairs to my apartment.
I'm on the top floor (4th), and I almost always have to get back on the elevator and return to the garage to retrieve it.
I'm so frustrated with it, but I simply cannot remember to do it.
-
Most native birds tend to stay within their "areas" but may go a little further afield for nesting.
I believe the Emu is less inclined to migrate. (I guess it could take lessons from the penguins though).
-

-
Indeed they do.
Not like the people!
Are you free for lunch about October 15th 2006?
-
Hey, TPunk!
Are you surrounded by loving cats?
Is KillBot purring contentedly right now?
-
Indeed they do.
Not like the people!
Are you free for lunch about October 15th 2006?
Barring any acts of God or Nature! I'm indeed free for lunch. And a bit of sightseeing.
-
And now Jose is back!
Par-TAY!
-
It's probably Rodzinski who is purring contentedly.
-
DR Ron Pulliam - Are you sure the bottle said "saline"?
;)
-
I'm looking forward to meeting Jose come January.
Assuming, of course, he's still planning on joining "Lestat" in its last week here in San Francisco.
-
DR Ron Pulliam - Are you sure the bottle said "saline"?
;)
Well, it was a saline solution that I mixed from a packet. And I used the correct amount of water.
-
Did Jose dub for the Eddy Duchin story?
-
How do ya like that!
Jose casts aspersions...and then disappears!
I mean, I'm guessing his query was an aspersion.
:D
-
Well, I have a slight headache, and a slightly upset stomach. I woke up feeling this way, and I'm blaming it on the sudden change to fall we had yesterday. -And I have none of my "warm" clothes here with me - they're all still in storage. -So, guess where I'm going Monday. Ah, well...
My nephew's birthday party is tomorrow - if I'm remembering correctly. Hopefully, I'll be able to drop by for a few before or between shows. I believe it's the big SIX!
:)
-
Not to be confused with Saline Dion - who should also be diluted.
-
Did Jose dub for the Eddy Duchin story?
Ferrer?
-
I know he was doing "Deep in My Heart" at Metro at the time....
-
Your nephew is older than me by a few weeks. I'll be the big 6 in mid December - Oh.
-
Not to be confused with Saline Dion - who should also be diluted.
I thought I was getting punchy.
But you're right about "La Dion"!
-
I was going to blame Jose?
-
I'm looking forward to meeting Jose come January.
Assuming, of course, he's still planning on joining "Lestat" in its last week here in San Francisco.
I'm still here...
I'm still hoping that I'll be able to make it out San Fran in January, however, after some of the production meetings this week, it's looking like it will be harder for me to get away for more than a show or two since I may end up conducting Damn Yankees during that time. So... We shall see.
If not, I'd be more than happy to set up house seats for you at The Palace.
:)
-
Well, Jose....take somethin'.....some aspirin, perhaps.
Drink a cup of hot tea. Put some honey in it.
Or...drink something very cold.
I commiserate.
But at least, tomorrow, you'll get some cake. If you're going to the birthday party, that is.
-

Well...I've never been to New York. But it would be worth it for house tickets. Especially if I could get to meet the cast and get autographs! (HUGE hint, hint)
And I completely understand the lure of CONDUCTING a show.
-
Did Jose dub for the Eddy Duchin story?
Nope. I dubbed for Richard Dreyfuss in "The Competition" during the prelims sequence - Ginastera, Piano Sonata No. 1, 3rd movement.
:)
-
Let's hope Lestat is still running in September 2006. then I shall claim to be DR Jose's best friend. If not I'll know who to blame.
-
I'd go with the warm lemon juice and aspirin too.
-

I think I just need sleep. And a nice comforter. I'm not feeling as sick as you that bad.
;)
-
If your feathers are falling out or your flight path is confused - worry.
-
;D Dear, Jose...I'm not feeling sick. I'm just not breathing.
Ack!
And on that note (C-Sharp), I bid all of you/each of you, a good night.
I'm sleepy, sleepy, sleepy....
-
Well...I've never been to New York. But it would be worth it for house tickets. Especially if I could get to meet the cast and get autographs! (HUGE hint, hint)
And I completely understand the lure of CONDUCTING a show.
You've never been to NYC? Really? Hmm... I'll have to plan a special Walking and Eating and Shopping our just for you!!!!
As for the "lure" of conducting... Well, since I am the assistant, if the conductor is out then I'm the next in line... So... It's not really a lure, more like a contractual obligation. *But I will get a nice bump in pay for those performances if I do end up conducting.
-
Sorry to desert you, Tomovoz.
-
G'night!
-
Best vibes to those feeling unwell for whatever reason.
I bid you good night.
-

OOH! I'm suddenly alert. Walking/Eating/Shopping is three of my favorite things to do.
-
Now...good night, again, sweet princes....
-
Let's hope Lestat is still running in September 2006. then I shall claim to be DR Jose's best friend. If not I'll know who to blame.
Well... I hope it's still running in September 2006 too!
*By all accounts at this point and time, most people are thinking that between the Elton John fans, and the Anne Rice fan(atics), we should get a good six month run regardless. Heck, Aida got middling reviews, and ended up running for four years, so... -And, heck, In My Life still hasn't posted their closing notice, so anything is possible.
;)
-
And I must head off to the Land of the Wussburgers myself. Hmm... I think tonight's selection will be Tillamook Cheddar.
;)
Goodnight.
-
Arrival date is September 20th 2006. We are happy to walk lots!
bye all.
-
Home from the play, about which more later. And what a loverly bunch of postings to come home to - I've read them all.
I picked up a bunch of upcoming DVDs today - Two for The Road, The Rains Came, Warning Shot, State Fair (the 40s one and the Ann-Margret one), Orchestra Wives, Lady Sings the Blues and a couple of others. Now to write the notes.
-
The one night I'm awake at 2:48 AM and no one is here to talk to!
:-\ Figures.
-
I'm here, baby.
-
The one night I say, "I'm here, baby" and there's no one here to talk to.
Are we just going to SIT here and not get to 300 postings?
-
Yay! Someone to talk to!
-
You said you have MS Word- What address book do you use? Outlook?
-
I use the Mac address book, which is quite handy.
Have you noticed that TCB and George are NOT PULLING THEIR WEIGHT? They're just sitting there like so much fish, and not helping to get to 300 postings.
-
I must say I'm going to have to bitch-slap the two of them from here to eternity and hell and back. George will probably show up at some point and say, oh, sorry I was scrubbing my toenails in the other room. And has George read Rewind yet?
-
Hope you are feeling Ok now Danise.
-
I shall just sit here like so much fish and not post the new notes.
-
I think George and Tom will be back 6 pages catching up!
-
The new notes are ready, mind you, but why should I post them until George returns from scrubbing his toenails. I don't know WHAT TCB might be doing.
-
300 will never happen!!!
-
Speaking of Marni Nixon, did anyone watch her children's show "Boomerang?" It was a children's show that was filmed in Seattle...if I remember correctly.
-
I think George and Tom will be back 6 pages catching up!
I'm not on page 6, I'm on page 8! And I'm not scrubbing my toenails, I cleanse them gently. ;)
-
I watched Wednesday's "Lost," then tonight's "Ghost Whisperer" and "Threshold" tonight. After that was part of a DVD that I got from Netflix about the women of British comedy. Quite funny!
-
Hope you are feeling Ok now Danise.
Much better, thank you, Tom.
So what happened at the play, BK? Who was there? Let's dish the dish and hear all the dirt! :)
