Title: THE SINATRA DREAM
Post by: bk on June 15, 2018, 12:02:38 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes were Sinatra-like, and how it is time for you to post until the Sinatra cows come home.

The Interstate 405 had a lot of construction going last night.  Traffic was down to one lane.

At Tom's house, I used Google maps to get back to the freeway and there was a message, "Save 19 minutes by going this way."  I scrolled through the route and saw that there was an accident just south of JBLM.  I followed the Google detour off I-5 and got back on the freeway right where the accident was, but it was literally at the same place as the on-ramp, so I was not blocked while getting back on the freeway at all, but I could see all the cars behind the accident that were slowly getting around the smashed cars!  Google Maps was VERY accurate.

Ever since yesterday's news of my friend Loyce's declining health, I'm in a state of confusion and depression.  I'm keeping my thoughts focused on getting through Page's funeral tomorrow, and I feel much like I felt in Feb. 2007 when Randy, Jo and I sat deathwatch for our father.

I met Loyce in March 1973 when she played Polly Peachum in a production of Threepenny Opera that I directed, and we were close friends for 45 years.  She was a very pretty soprano and we did a lot of community theatre together.  She was responsible for one of the worst weekends of my life in May 1982 when her marriage broke up and she flew to New York.  For three days I had a good friend going through a nervous breakdown in my apartment.  It was hell, but I'm very glad I was there for her because she was always there for me.

Last June, when I was back in Ohio and I spent a day with her, I was aware that she was showing signs of dementia.  Her sister told me she believes it was the result of a botched surgery on her spine to deal with sciatica issues.  Perhaps I'll never know if it were or not.

Here are photos of Loyce in 1976 Jacques Brel Is Alive and Well . . . and my last Ohio production, The Beggar's Opera. The last photo is from DR Ginny's wonderful party last year.  Loyce amd Diane alternated the role of Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance.

T.O.D.

Since it's summertime, there are few things on the tube worth watching these days.

However, we did see a good movie on Showtime (?) or HBO (?) or one of those premium channels last night.

It was called DEAN w/Demetri Martin, Kevin Kline and Mary Steenburgen.  I highly recommend it.

We need a good laugh.

Peter Marshall: True or false...there are more psychiatrists in Beverly Hills than plumbers.
Paul Lynde: When my toilet's backed up, I don't care who fixes it.

Peter Marshall: Eddie Fisher recently stated, “I’m sorry. I’m sorry for them both.” Who or what was he referring to?
Paul Lynde: His fans.

Peter Marshall: When you pat a dog on its head he will usually wag his tail. What will a goose do?
Paul Lynde: Make him bark.

Hi George we are passing Tumwater 😊

And as long as we can use another laugh...

A little old prim and proper lady is traveling by train to Winn (let's say, Iowa), and has been seated next to an equally polite and refined gentleman. After a while the rhythms of the train relax her and she dozes off. Later, upon waking up, it's apparent from the scenery and the light that some time has gone by. She turns to the gentleman and asks, in alarm, "Oh my, have I passed Winn??" With a tip of the hat, he said, "Why ma'am, if you did, it was so ladylike I didn't notice."

We are (or were) expecting the remnants of Hurricane Bud from Mexico today. The weather service and the news media have attempted to whip us all into a frenzy over it. I think we can expect a quarter of an inch of rain. Maybe. Hardly reason to panic.

I'm up, I'm up - was up at four-thirty after two hours of sleep, fell back asleep around seven woke up just before eleven to news of a screwup on the tray card of the Alan Jay Lerner album - infuriating typo on the spine, so we're redoing the tray and will include it with the discs we send rather than unwrap all five hundred CDs.  He's supposed to cut and paste the title everywhere but he didn't and here we are.  So, what would have made a little tiny profit is now a loser.

In other news, the exterior of the house has been completed, the affected bedroom has been sheetrocked, and I do believe we get a whole weekend off without having to get up in time for the workmen to arrive, and without having to have any workmen here doing anything! They've been great, but boy do you need a break from it.

The wall guy will be back at least a few times to keep building up and sanding the "mud" (or spackle or whatever it should be called), which is what happens before the walls can be painted. That's just a few minutes visit each time, then at some point they paint the walls and the carpet people will lay the carpet. (No smirking, please, this is a nice family site.)

Oh yeah. The gutter people still need to come out and replace their stuff. So, really, it never ends. Right?

Ever since yesterday's news of my friend Loyce's declining health, I'm in a state of confusion and depression.  I'm keeping my thoughts focused on getting through Page's funeral tomorrow, and I feel much like I felt in Feb. 2007 when Randy, Jo and I sat deathwatch for our father.

That's cute!

TCB or George, was the mug on your hot chocolate hot?  I am wondering if they baked the cake in the mug.  I have seen individual microwave cakes baked in mugs.

No, I think it was baked in the mug.  Very good, but very rich.

Yes.  It definitely wasn't cooked in a different container and then added to the mug.  And it was very good!

Picked up some packages, then went to Ralph's to get my usual wrap - sold out - had to get one I didn't really want.  Annoying.  In fact this whole day has been annoying and that includes the usual phlegm and worry about my voice, which should be back to normal already.  I could probably croak my way through the score if I had to do it today, but this damn well better be gone by Sunday.

Back from the opening night of Neil Simon's Rumors - not a great play, but when he hits a certain rhythm there is simply no one better.  Could have used some snappier blocking and some performances weren't sharp enough.
