interesting descriptions of dreams:

http://www.astraltraveler.com/dream-states.html

And some definitions of Brain Wave Activity during sleep.

Beta is the first stage of sleep. During this time the brain begins to shift the mind from it waking consciousness to prepare it to enter into the next level of sleep. The body automatically lowers the heart rate, blood pressure, and body temperature and the muscles of the body begin to relax.

Alpha is the condition we enter during the time between the stage of being awake and actually drifting off to sleep. During this state we often feel the sensation of drifting. Most of our dreams happen during this stage of sleep. It is easily recognizable by rapid eye movements (REM) which can last several minutes.

The Theta stage is when the body is fully engulfed in sleep. During this stage brain waves move quickly from theta to delta waves. If we are awakened during this state, we often become disoriented because it takes the body several minutes to snap back into its conscious state.

Delta is the deepest level of sleep. Most people don't dream during this state.

Of course it is training our brain waves that allows us to have an OBE....if we wish.

For those who watch, the Season 3 premiere of "KYLE XY" is on television tonight, at least in the U.S.

This looks like what Mamie Eisenhower put out when Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip visited the White House in the mid 50's.

Speaking of the TOD - last night I had a dream I ran into DR Jose, DR Elmore and DR Vixmom near a subway station in NYC.  It was like we were old pals.  I don't remember why I was there or what I was doing, it was all nondescript, as most dreams are.  All I can remember is meeting them on the street.

Today, I have a funeral service to do (part of the job) and then the DP and I are going to IKEA.

I have not yet read the posts on the Golden Globes. But my 2 favorite moments last night were:

1. Tina Fey's speech. So funny. I wish more speeches could be funny.

2. Kate Winslet the 2nd time. So gracious. So elegant. What a fantastic speaker even when nervous and flustered. Loved it.

Ah, well...

It looks like I missed the 10:00am broadcast of "Bollywood Unlimited" - "Reports on the movie industry in India."

;)

*DR MBarnum - One of the local public television outlets carries this program here in Richmond.  Is there a chance it might be available in your neck of the woods too?

On tv tonight for me:

Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill.

I also will probably record True Beauty.

I am looking forward to MTV's The City and the very first The City Aftershow.

Since we were talking about food...  -Well, aren't we always?  ;)

Actually this is more about "Food Writing".  The New York Times recently instituted some changes to their Food pages in the NYT Magazine.  One of the new monthly columns is "Cooking with Dexter".  -Dexter if the four-year old son of the writer.  I thought the first installment which appeared last weekend, well... It brought a smile to my face.

Um, I have to disagree with #2, DR Jennifer.  I would have expected so much more eloquence from someone like Winslet.  And I really don't understand all the emotion involved.  For one thing, she is a critics' darling who should be used to heaps of praise she's received over the years of her career and for another--it's just the Golden Globe.

I adore Kate Winslet and I don't begrudge her double win at all, but I think she's too much of a veteran to fall apart over the Golden Globes.

And speaking of food (again)... ;)

Saturday morning, I happened to get caught up in a mini-marathon of "Man v. Food" on the Travel Channel.  I was surprised I had never come across the program before, especially since the host basically has one of my "dream jobs".  ;)  However...

I really have to wonder if the host, Adam Richman, evens bothers going in for a physical or blood tests after taking on some of the "challenges" he does:

-A 2-1/2 pound Dagwood Sandwich at the Ohio Deli, or the "Thurmanator" at the Thurman Café in Columbus, OH

or

-The 11-pound(!!!), 30-inch(!!!) pizza from Big Pie in the Sky in Kennesaw, GA, just outside of Atlanta

I am afraid DR DtM that I agree with you about Ms Winslet's speech...I only saw one of them....for the movie with Leo DiCaprio.

Her reaction seemed somewhat effusive for the honor.....  Do you think that's how she reacts when she gets her change back from the cashier at the grocery store?

When it's the correct change, surely.

And then again, maybe she was drunk like the rest of 'em.

There was a funny heading in the paper today. It said that Dexter married his sister!

Well actor Michael C Hall married his Dexter sister, Jennifer Carpenter (i think that is her name).

I did not even know they were a couple.  And because of that the headline startled me!

I want all of my celebrities to give speeches like Linda Lavin did when she won the Tony for BROADWAY BOUND.

I couldn't find a clip of Ms Lavin accepting her award on YouTube, but here's a nifty clip of Chita Rivera on the Hollywood Palace.  Dig the cool Pop Art scenery!

I completely disagree.

Just because you have gotten praise for 2 roles does not mean that anyone would ever expect to win 2 times on the same night.

I thought she seemed stunned.  It seemed totally genuine to me.  I think it's nice to see someone surprised and with a little humility vs a totally prepared non-emotional speech.

Well, DR JRand, Skyline does have some interesting new salad choices, all with seasoned fajita chicken.

DR DtM - wild clip there......of course the trouble with YOU TUBE is that one leads to another....I also watched Chita do a song from BRING BACK BIRDIE!

Not so surprised and stunned that she couldn't read the paper in her hand, DR JENNIFER.   The only people on TV that seem phonier to me than Winslet last night are the dumb bells on THE HILLS.
