And the word of the day is: MOONCALF!
That is my New Philosphy: We are merely the rice and beans in the passing parade.
"rice and beans" for Pilgrim Sunday?
Going to bed rather latish, I know...but I had to post and say that I watched my new DVD of "With A Song in My Heart" last evening-this morning...and blubbered like a baby throughout a bunch of it.
It's still one of my favorite all-time movies, and I think it's Susan Hayward's best performance.
1947...When candles lit the Palace and a pint cost 10d
Britain was a very different country in 1947 when the Queen married. Austerity measures were still in place after the war.
• Rationing was the norm. Ministers asked women to wear shorter skirts to save cloth. People were allowed only tuppence-worth of tinned meat a week and there were limits on potatoes, fish, fresh meat and eggs. Some children got their first leather shoes from the Red Cross. Radios, like the portable one shown to star George Formby at a Daily Mail Ideal Home Exhibition, above, were a luxury.
• Fuel shortages were common and the coal industry was nationalised. Electricity was intermittent - power was switched off to the Midlands one day a week - and Buckingham Palace was lit with candles. The number of trains was cut by ten per cent and "pleasure motoring" was banned. There were strikes by the miners, road hauliers and other essential services.
...
And the word of the day is: MOONCALF!

der Brucer
Is the TV ratings sweeps period over? I'm having trouble figuring that out.
The Leaf Aliens who are trying to make their planet beautiful.
Or some crazy designer from Project Runway who is making leaf dresses for a wedding party.
Now, what would someone want with 5 or 6 huge trash bags full of leaves?
I would mulch them!
While at brunch, my back was to the big picture window, but the patrons facing the window all jumped up at once when a guy outside started pummeling someone waiting for a table.
My mother, ever curious, found out that it was an extended incident of road rage. The guy who was beaten had P.O.ed a driver who followed him to the restaurant and then jumped him! Several police cars and a fire truck soon arrived, but no one was seriously injured.
Still, be careful out there, especially with your hand gestures!
I mean, I have taken neighbors' leaves before (with there permission) to mulch them, not that YOU should mulch them!
DR MattH - have a great time seeing The Drowsy Chaperone!
Good morning, all! There's been no word from my Drama Queen niece this morning, and I hope she will change her mind and show up later. Jo's dinner smells wonderful, and I do look forward to seeing everyone who shows up today. I doubt there will be any sign of the Macbeths. ok by me, but any anti-Macbeth vibes you can send around noon will be appreciated.
I had a wonderful visit with DR Ginny and Richard last night. Good pizza, to boot! I'd been craving a pizza from Shaddock's all week, and it was mighty tasty.
I think I may run down to the cemetary this morning to see my parents' graves. I'll see if Randy was to go with me. It will be my first visit since the burial in February. And then, I will be ready to head back to New York.
Tomorrow, I need all those travel vibes you can send my way.
DR PENNYO are you related to author Dr Judith Orloff?
Can someone tell me when the taquito came into favor? I do remember having my first taquitos quite some time ago, but I can't remember where. I know it wasn't at a restaurant - could have been a fast food jernt, although Taco Bell has never had them. Who made the taquito hip and famous?

...or the AWFUL DR. ORLOFF?
Wonder how DR Puritan SINGDAW made out today?
Howz yer fine seff today, Edi?

They come filled with chicken and grilled steak. TB's been selling them since 2006.
Well, I survived the Puritan service, but I have nary a picture to show for it. Sorry! :(
Well, my dears-
Off to bed!
Sweet dreams to all.
Goodnight DR SweetDreams
And it is lunchtime in OZ.

Gives new meaning to the HHW morning bowl-washing ritual.
DR Cillaliz - Gabe is a doll and GGMa looks very proud!
Must we ALL dream of DR TCB?
William fell asleep. Alex laughed at the funnier lines, so he at least paid attention.
"The White Cliffs of Dover" is recording right now. I finished up "Green Mansions" half an hour ago. That leaves "The Narrow Margin" which I don't think I'm going to record. But I'll watch it.
No, only you. He's YOUR dream lover.
MR BK - I think the fact that Mr Robert Keith is the father of Mr Brian Keith has been mentioned a few times here at HHW....though you may not know also that Mr Robert Keith was married for a short time to Ms Peg Entwhistle.....the HollywoodLand sign swan dive gal!
The book signing went very well---sold every book the store had in stock and fortunately Danny had another box in his car. He read the book out loud and then asked trivia questions. Every kid who won a question got a free ice cream cone. So there were lots of happy kids; a very nice sized-crowd!
Afterwards, we all went out to dinner so I got to spend some QT with my godson, Quinn. Yay!
Wasn't Veal Prince Orloff a Sue Ann Nivens dish on the Mary Tyler Moore Show?
IMBD says they dated but never married. ???
Apparently, the strike is not ending tomorrow. They are not going the way of the AFM strike. And both sides will be blaming the other, but if I had to choose, just based on posts I've read on the chat boards, my guess would be that Local One did the walking out.
I've made steady progress in clearning my DVR cache. It's amazing how many movies one can transfer to DVD if one puts one's mind to it...and occupies oneself doing other things rather than sitting and watching the films while they are recording.
I got home and realized I did not have my cell phone. It was nowhere to be found. I called Mom and she found it out in their driveway. She offered to send it, but I told her I can live without it until Thursday.
:o I couldn't wait. My cell phone is my only phone.
I just finished watching a grand piece of movie entertainment entitled GRAND PRIX, directed by John Frankenheimer. Not much on plot, great cast, terrific Maurice Jarre score, but it's those racing sequences that really rock!
Anybody have any favorite "car" movies?
Looks like it was the producers who walked out. http://www.broadwayworld.com/viewcolumn.cfm?colid=22912 (http://www.broadwayworld.com/viewcolumn.cfm?colid=22912)
