Here's the "March of the Toys" and our leading man, Eddie Bracken, singing "Toyland" to Ric Ryder.

Speaking of fast food, did anyone read the story about Taco Bell being sued for calling the meat they use in their food "beef?"

Nicky decided that I needed to get out of bed at 9:00 a.m.; even though it was after midnight before I went to sleep.  I got up, made coffee, gave Nick some kitty kookies, and then he went back to bed.

I watched THE SOCIAL NETWORK on DVD last night.  I'd seen it in a theater when it was first released.

It's an excellent film, one that I will certainly watch again in the future.

But, Like RAGING BULL and even CITIZEN KANE, it's a film that I admire, rather than "love".

I "love" CASABLANCA.  I "love" THE MALTESE FALCON.  I "love" THE GODFATHER.

The difference is that I "care" about the characters in the movies that I love.  I'm fascinated by the characters in THE SOCIAL NETWORK and the other films, but I don't really like them.

Despite all its great critical awards, I'll be surprised if THE SOCIAL NETWORK wins the Best Picture Oscar.  The Academy doesn't usually give that award to movies they don't "love".

What do you think?

I believe the Best Picture Oscar will go to THE KING'S SPEECH.

I love Dana! Any singer who works with Peter Schickele is a hoot in my book, and I had seen Dana as Madame Bo Peep in PDQ Bach's OEDIPUS TEX where I thought I would pee from laughing so hard at her number "You murdered your father, you married your mother, you rascal! You're my kind of kid."

John Kalbfleisch brought her to the orchestration symposium at the Library of Congress in 2009 and it was great to see her after nearly 20 years. I introduced her to Sid Ramin, who helped Bernstein with the QUIET PLACE orchestrations and Dana remembered Sid from singing in the Houston Grand Opera premiere of A QUIET PLACE.

When my mom and I went to Los Angeles in 1966, we caught a glimpse of Charles Buddy Rogers, in person, possibly at Movieland Wax Museum.  I didn't know the name at the time, but it was one of the rare times I ever saw my mom "starstruck".  I thought she might swoon.

Um, not quite.  It's the musical adaptation of the Arthur Kopit play about a stroke victim.  Jeff Lunden and Art Perlman did the music and lyrics, and the OCR was available on RCA/Victor. It's a true tour-de-force for the lead actress. -In fact, Dana won the Helen Hayes Award for Best Actress in a Musical for it.

They are. -And they are available at your local Whole Foods Market. -And they are also packaged under Trader Joe's house-brand.

Sure, rub it in that we don't have either of those store anywhere near us. ;)

The closest TJ's is just over two hours away in California.

The closest WF's is about four hours away in Bend, Oregon.  Often when we are in Portland we go to Whole Foods or when in L.A.

My wonderful sister-in-law and chef par excellence JoAnn just sent me the first half of the 2011 taxes on that damned property in Ohio: my third is $519, and I guess it was lowered by $180 since the house has been torn down. So we've paid out now around $10,000 in taxes since 2007 and my brothers don't want to pay a realtor's commission! Amazing.

Sunday morning greetings!  Because Fr. Richard was already scheduled to be off today, we did not go to Lima.  It was nice to sleep in a bit and enjoy our newspapers and pancakes and bacon.

I've written three pages and am just trying to finish the chapter I'm on - I know what the next chapter is, so that should go fairly quickly, but finishing the current chapter is slow going for some reason.

In fact, hanging in my entry hall is a poster from WINGS, autographed to me from him.

Just took my first cardiac walk around the basement after being off for more than a week.  I took it a bit slower than usual, but will now get back in the daily habit.  The good news is that I didn't gain any weight on our vacation.

That IS Good News!   I'm surprised to report that, I, following my sojourn into the Carolinas in December, discovered I'd lost 5 lbs.  Even now, I feel more like that's just a dream than a reality.  But it's twoo, it's twoo.
