I loved the scene in GWTW where Miss Scarlett took her mother's Poitier and made a dress!(This post solely for those paying "close" attention!)
Very nice Latin being posted here today. It killed the Romans, you know.
What a sad waste of taxpayer dollars and Congressional personnel time!(a steroid hearing reference)
I know that Latin is a fully functional language, but somehow I just can't get past the mental image of people lounging around in togas, exchanging one-liner bon mots!
But baseball is The National Pastime, dontchaknow!
...especially one in a puce-colored toga, with matching pumps, eating bons-bons and Monkey Cake...

Actually, I think what done the Romans in was the influx of Britannic and Germanic phrases. True Romans didn't want the language bastardized, but the "new" Romans became so plentiful that the true Romans were unable to vocalize their needs (loath as they were to use the assimilated homonyms, antonyms and whatnot) and the language simply died with them. --- Fractured History
Well, that and the heavy newspapers they had to carry everyday.
