This morning while listening to the radio I heard some male singer butcher TEACH ME TONIGHT.  Finally during dinner I put on my Jo Stafford CD & heard the song sung the way it should be.

For dinner we had big, beautiful, exceptionally delicious artichokes.

I think we've just made the decision to change the title of the short story collection (which I'm starting to have to get serious about if I want it out in September) - I know several people here liked the title we're going to use -

How To Write A Dirty Book and Other Stories.

I like that title also...

I'm glad to hear that my new CD is getting lots of air play in Oregon!

TCB I suspect you can sing better than that.

Cute!  We had basmati with the artichoke.  Keith also had a veggie burger-I was too full after the cheese and crackers.

Back after a nice afternoon with my DS - we went to a bookstore, took my mom and aunt for ice cream, then came home and watched the conclusion of West Wing.  I have just finished putting sets of kid bedding and towels and assorted fabrics in plastic bags to contribute to a garage sale - all labeled and, in the case of the fabrics, measured.

TCB - I love the new photo.

Bk - yup - like the new title. It'll make people pick up the book and look at the back, anyway. You can't get them to buy it if they won't pick it up to look at it...

All DR's - thanks for so much excellent vibe-age. The show went quite well - but there wer more of us on the stage than in the audience... it isn't exactly the type of play you take Grandma to see on Mother's Day... plus - such a gorgeous day OUTSIDE - who wanted to sit INSIDE to listen to a reading??? The Q and A and discussion after was quite lively and fun - I look forward to tomorrow night's reading - when I think we'll have a full house. Strange play, i warn ye...

What caused the bus fire, DR MBARNUM?

That I do not know. The newspaper did not say.

I was at my sister's with the family:  the food and dessert had been consumed, the Mother's Day gifts given and much conversation was taking place when I got a call from the people whose house and cat I've been watching for the last three weeks.  Rita said that they're still in L.A. and are running late.  They won't be in until after 10:00 p.m., tonight.  TONIGHT????  I thought that they weren't coming in until tomorrow!  (I didn't let on that I was expecting another day to clean up. ::))

Anyway, I'm at their house now, and will gather all of my stuff, my dirty clothes, my DVD player, my VHS tape (the kind that Elmore is so fond of! ;) TMI...TMI!!) and leave in time to catch most of "Extreme Makeover:  Home Improvement."  The cat is inside, has been fed and everything looks okey-dokey.  It's been real, it's been fun, but it ain't been real fun...just kidding. ;D They pay, so I really don't mind. :) It'll be nice to sleep in my own bed again, though.

Watched two musicals tonight before settling in with network TV.

First up was SUMMER HOLIDAY which I returned to after watching it three or four weeks ago. I have been playing the soundtrack album a fair amount in the last few weeks and have those songs on the brain, so I watched it. The Technicolor looked very rich on the laserdisc.

Loving that rich Technicolor look, I picked the 1951 SHOW BOAT on DVD to watch next. The color is VERY deep in that bare bones DVD. I understand Warners is working on a new boxed set of SHOW BOATs for 2007 with all those versions and hopefully will do a restoration on the 1951 SHOW BOAT. Most of it looks just wonderful, but when that fog rolls in for "Old Man River," there's lots of problems with the transfer, and there are assorted speckles and some dirt and reel change markers throughout.

I squirmed and shifted uncomfortably in my chair throughout tonight's DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES. I can't remember an episode that made me feel so ill at ease before. The few lame moments of comedy just didn't work for me, and everyone seems to be in such a bad place at the moment. It was just a very unsatisfying downer of an episode.

There were two LAW & ORDER: CI episodes on tonight, and I watched the second one "live" (recorded the first one during DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES).

I had no idea Jamey Sheridan was leaving the show. That was the biggest surprise of the night. The case was an OK mystery.
