I hope you will excuse this commercial announcement, but:

I am excited and proud to announce the publication of my newest book, ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD: From the Secret Files of Harry Pennypacker.

I had more fun writing this book than anything else I have ever written and I know you will enjoy reading it, too.

Of course, I wouldn’t want you to just spend your valuable time frivolously.

You will learn the secrets Hollywood never wanted you to know when you read this book.  You will be amazed, but definitely better informed than you are now.

The book is now available for pre-order through my publisher and will be shipped in time for Chanukah/Christmas giving.

You can order it on-line by visiting  www.onceuponatimeinhollywood.com

OR, if you are uncomfortable doing business on the internet, you can phone in your order at:
(888) 934-0888 x 100.

Thank you, and enjoy!

Today I am going out for dinner and then to The Byham Theater to see (and hear) Miss Idina Menzel.  She has an early start-time (7:30), so it will be an early dinner and an early night.

Ask BK day question:

Who has disappointed you with their live concert performances, if anyone?

Who has impressed you the most with their live concert performances?

Who would you avoid seeing in concert at all costs?

Who would you rush out to see in concert no matter the cost?

I have just ordered DR DRUXY's book.....looks interesting....  Couldn't tell however if the Payment page was SECURE....there was no notice and my computer didn't have the little LOCK symbol that it usually has on a secure page.

So.....I guess I will just have to watch my online account for the next few days.

Good Morning!

I had to be up and out early this morning to go to the post office. Disney sent me both the Blu-ray and the DVD of WALL-E, but another reviewer handles the standard definition Disney product, so I had to forward that disc to him this morning. Thankfully and coincidentally, he lives in NC, too, so the disc should get to him tomorrow.

It's supposed to rain today, but I'm seeing more blue sky right now than I ever saw yesterday when it was supposed to be sunny!

[sigh] A couple of days ago there was something wrong with logging on to this site, and now this morning, the site where I work is down. Oh, well. Work will continue on product even when I can't get there to write about it.

ASK BK DAY QUESTION...

SO , exactly when and where is this Bacarach thing you are doing and is it open to the public?

The benefit is called Bacharach To The Future and will be at New World Stages on Monday, December 1.  Show time is, I think, seven-thirty, but maybe it's eight.  Tickets have been on sale for a month now - I'll post ticket info here as soon as I figure out where it is.

I have three shows on the DVR to pick from to watch while I eat lunch: THE MENTALIST, ELI STONE, and THE SHIELD. I think I'll likely go with ELI STONE because I love the title character so much, and the tone of the show is so involving.

And, of course, I'll be starting on THE ODD COUPLE today. The last season in its run. As I remember, it wasn't as good as seasons three and four, but I'm looking forward to seeing them just the same.

Wednesday......

My question for ASK BK DAY....if you could have any of your favorite composers RE-SCORE a film in his own style....which composer and which film would you choose?

Good question - the one that immediately comes to mind is The Black Stallion.  Carmine Coppola's score is, at best, serviceable, but does nothing to help the amazing images on the screen and the emotions they evoke.  I think a Jerry Goldsmith (during that period) would have done an amazing score.

Of course, I could also name almost any movie from the last ten to fifteen years, all of which could have benefitted from a proper score with a great composer, without the constraints of the dreaded temp track they're forced to emulate.

Who has impressed you the most with their live concert performances?

Who would you avoid seeing in concert at all costs?

Who would you rush out to see in concert no matter the cost?

I've been disappointed in many cabaret acts, almost all of them, actually, if you consider those live concert performances, none more so than the version of Three Men And A Baby Grand I booked for the LACC cabaret series.  If you mean the bigger live concert performances, I haven't been to all that many, but I don't think I've ever been disappointed, really.  I've been impressed with many of the live concerts I've seen - and that includes Tony Bennett, Petula Clark, Joel Grey, and Michel Legrand, all in Las Vegas in the mid-1970s, The Manhattan Transfer, Peter Allen (what a dynamo he was), Randy Newman, and I'm sure I'm forgetting others.

I don't know if there's anyone I would rush to see today no matter what the cost.  I'm honestly trying to think and since I've had the opportunity to see a lot of heavyweights, like Streisand, and haven't done so...  Of course, if Jack Benny were alive and kicking it would be him.

I was checking the DVR and it kept telling me there was a problem with the disk.  I tried to reboot it but that didn't work either so I called cable company and they tried to do a remote reset to it as well.  That didn't work so I have to take the unit over to the office and get a new one.

I don't know what happened.  I don't remember hearing about any bad storms on the news while I was gone.  I kept an eye on the weather down here because of the hurricane that was messing around down by Cuba.  I know the odds were very slim at best for it to come here but you should never say never with those things.

Well, I guess I'd better get a move on.  I want to get this taken care of before I go get Sheena because I wanted to spend the time with her, not just get her then have to leave her to make a run over to Brandon.

Laters all!

THE BLACK STALLION....good choice...wow Goldsmith could have really done something fun with that.

I keep thinking that a stronger composer for some of the Disney films like FOLLOW ME BOYS! and OLD YELLER (not the Shermans work on the musicals) - could certainly have enhanced those films.

Not that George Bruns (Boys) and Oliver Wallace (Yeller) weren't good.....but their work and even Paul Smith's on 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA seemed very "television" to me.

Today's walk will be down to 45th Street and the Loesser office. I will stop at the 68th Street post office and mail a package, then continue on down. I should arrive around noon.  I doubt that I will walk back, probably just take the No 7 bus up Sixth Avenue.

I am sorry to say that I did miss WALL-E when it was at the theatre. I had intended to take little Taylor and Benjamin to see it but our schedules never coordinated, and my buddy Jim and I had talked about going to see it also, and then like a flash it was gone!

I should have just gone on my own to see it. I actually do enjoy going to the theater to see movies on the big screen. I actually missed several films that I wanted to see this summer...but it was just such a busy summer.
