And a late one it is.

But all I wanted to do when I got up a while ago was crash into the recliner, so crash I did.  And it felt good.

Nothing much to report.

Again, second week in a row, this does not feel like a Friday to me.  Definitely a mid-week feeling to the morning so far.  I do need to go out and do a few things, so maybe that will sync me up.

I could use a new musical project to work on.  But I've got plenty of music that needs doing by myself at home, and there's plenty else that needs to be worked on, so I'd best just get busy.

A year from now there's a musical slot in which my best director friend in the area and I will collaborate on something.  He submitted a few things and right now it seems the theater might be choosing one of DR Elmore's least favorite Sondheim musicals -- which will nevertheless be good for me to work on, but my friend's other submissions are good, too, and I'll be happy with any of them.

Oh, this is weird --

An entirely free weekend, nothing on the calendar at all.  We're actually in a week between runs of shows in this area, at least of anything I care about seeing, but it's been so crazy up to now that it seems like the bottom dropped out.

One of the great regional "country fairs" (Bridgewater, CT) is this weekend, so I'll probably drop in to that for a while tomorrow to take in the atmosphere, see a few friends, and eat a few tasty things.

In today's gustatory news, I just ate an El Monterey "Signature" Egg, Applewood Smoked Bacon & Cheese Breakfast Burrito.  Minute and a half in the microwave and Bob's yer uncle.

Delicious.

Maybe instead of, or in addition to, going to the fair, I should use my newfound TDF powers and come into the city to see something.

Mind you, the pictorial representation of bacon in that photo is greatly enhanced -- as these things always are.  They do have bits of actual bacon in it, and they add liquid smoke flavoring like many places and other products do.  Hey, it's all good.

Friday morning greetings!  Ten of us gathered here last night for my book group's annual potluck dinner and movie night.  The Honey Baked ham and turkey were a hit and the sides that everyone else brought were delicious.  Surprisingly, no one brought a dessert, but Marianne brought some fabulous chocolates from her native Germany.  After dinner we took over the family room to watch ROOM on the big TV.  We all agreed that the book was better than the movie, but the movie was fine.  Seeing it convinced some who hadn't read the book to do so.  Lynne took my copy home with her.

I think Act One of G&D may be officially finished.  I've discovered that I really detest editing on a computer screen.  I need the paper in my hand.

Back in the 70s, Dad won a trip to Italy through his work. One evening, they went to a gala that showed the chariot race on screens that surrounded the dining area. Afterward they opened the doors and let in live charioteers who drove their horses around the tables. They both still marvel at that memory.

I remember that they left us three kids alone for the week with only a neighbor coming by in the evening. Nowadays that would likely be deemed abuse and neglect. We loved it.

Athens, Greece, is "my city.  I say that because on my first visit there in 1974, I was with a group that wanted to see certain things but we were left in the city without a map.  For some reason, my internal compass took over and at every turn, I led us to specific locations, including the Acropolis (which is rather hard to miss in general, but when you're on a street without a vista of the Acropolis, you don't really know where to turn).

In 1975, I was assigned to the Armed Forces Radio Station at Athenai Air Base.  It was meant to be a two-year tour.  Sadly, it lasted only three months because the government asked the military (specifically, the U.S. Navy) to withdraw as a result of its dissatisfaction over NATO's non-involvement in the Cyprus affair.   Still, in that three months, I wallowed in Athens.  Never got lost.  Always felt I belonged there....that I had BEEN there at some point in my past.  I even had cognitive dreams about places and people that eventually happened.

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

And it's a great story, Ron. I loved the four days I had there. I could really get into that lifestyle.
