TOD: We just watched 1408 (well, I watched, Betsy left the room repeatedly when she got too scared, LOL). Like a lot of Stephen King-based movies, it had its moments, but it just failed to add up to much for me (not even 13,
). It's the way I felt about most of the film adaptations--scary moments here and there, but sadly lacking in overall coherence and motivation.
Would you like to know what we've been going through for the past couple of days. REMODELING HELL, that's what. They got the appliances "installed" on Thursday, only to realize after spending close to an hour getting the refrigerator leveled, that there was no power to the outlet for the refrigerator. I could have told them that, had they bothered to ask. So the contractor (who received a not very nice call from me) rushed over a 30 foot 3 pronged extension cord to deal with that. Then they discovered that whoever demo'd the kitchen may have broken our dishwasher (the gasket bracket--try saying that three times fast--appeared to be loose). Oy and double oy.
So anyhoo, yesterday was a mad rush to get everything else more or less done (the way this whole project has gone). Within a three hour period, I had the countertop guy, the plumber and the electrician there, all trying to work in a very confined space. The plumber had refused to hook up the icemaker, not because of plumbing issues, but because they refuse to move heavy appliances on hardwood floors for fear of damage. And the electrician needed to check the outlet behind the fridge, too. So I put masonite down on the floor and moved the damn fridge myself, to the very vocal objections of the contractor who stood there watching and whining. Bottom line, we got the outlet working, the fridge plumbed, and with no damage to the floor, not that the contractor had anything to do with that. And the first run of the dishwasher had no leaks, so I have my fingers crossed.
We now have a kitchen that's about 85% there--we still need cabinet doors and drawers, and the floors need one more coat of whatever they put on, but it's looking like a kitchen and it does look beautiful. The slate countertops are absolutely gorgeous. I'll post pics next week when it's all done.
