Well, just as we saw at the Golden Globes, movies this year are splitting the spoils; there is no one movie that seems far and away the best.
I had a feeling last night that DREAMGIRLS might not be included when I read LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE won the Producers Guild of America award for Best Film. Figuring that the Academy wouldn't put a comedy and a musical in their top five with all these serious dramas, I figured DREAMGIRLS would be omitted.
And yet with its omissions in the film, director, and screenplay categories, it still managed to score the most nominations this year.
I was kind of hoping United 93 would get a Best Film nod. Its director did get nominated, but the film didn't.
To be honest, I haven't seen a single one of the best film nominees. That might be a first for me. Of course, LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE is on DVD and readily available, and I think BABEL will be out before the Oscars are awarded, too.
