Well, you've read the notes, the notes were nothing to sneeze at or even wheeze at, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - for, of course, the cows nose.

And the word of the day is: ONIOMANIA!
ONIOMANIA (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/oniomania). What I almost developed when I first discovered eBay. I started back in 1999 before you could "watch" an auction. You had to either bid or bookmark the specific link to keep track of it. I don't think I should post what my very first eBay purchase was ::) ...so I won't. ;)
And I don't even smoke!! ;D
-
Yesterday evening, I left work and went to my sister's house for some veggie lasagna...with veggies...and mushrooms...and cottage cheese. It was well made, but it had veggies...and mushrooms...and cottage cheese. :P
-
I got home just in time to watch "Medium." I recorded "Lost" and will watch it after I watch last week's episode. After "Medium," I watched a couple of episodes of "It's All Relative" that I recorded on Logo.
-
And now, I must depart for sleep. Good night. :)

It is usual to book for a Restaurant in Australia- or at least for an evening meal. Lunch would also usually be booked if the restaurant is upmarket.
I've never seen a queue for a restaurant here. The busy weekend nights would see most of the better restuarants booked.
Lunch time eateries can be busy but there are usually alternative eateries if no table is available.
My worst experience is really a lack of service in "Denny's" many years ago. We walked out and wrote a letter of complaint which was at least acknowledged with vouchers. (I consider the Denny's type establishment not really much more than "fast food"outlets) If a restaurant does not please me I usually will not return. I'm old fashioned enough to write a letter of complaint - and in some cases thanks - to restaurants. We are also fortunate enough to have "middle range" eateries here - based more on the pub/bistro idea in Europe.
I can think of no situation where there would be the offer of a tip pre meal.
We've discussed the tipping concept before. Australians will only tip for service that is more than "Expected". The tips do not constitute part of the normal pay of an employee.
I can't think of a situation where my meal has been unsatisfactory.
-
Well, all's quiet on the western front. And it seems that all is quiet on all fronts as of right now.
-
And with that, I am off to the shower and then promptly to bed!
-
I have oniomania....but do not realize it until I walk into a store. It is particularly rampant in the LP and book sections of thrift stores.
DR GEORGE thanks for the Amazon link - maybe I will watch that and see if it sells. I would not know how to begin to sell anything with that value, but time will tell.
-
Another vote for very bad service at a Denny's restaurant. I will also add the Bob Evans chain as one where we waited almost 50 minutes to be served....our orders were taken quickly, and then we were left alone.....
I don't go to either "restaurant" any more.

A good friend sent me this pre-Mother's Day story. I have never heard it before, so here goes.
We had this great 10 year old cat named Jack who was a great cat. The kids would carry him around and sit on him and nothing ever bothered him. We have 3 kids and at the time of this story they were 4 years old, 3 years old and 1 year old. The middle one is Eli. Eli really loves chapstick, LOVES it. He kept asking to use my chapstick and then losing it. So finally one day I showed him where in the bathroom I keep my chapstick and how he could use it whenever he wanted to but he needed to put it right back in the drawer when he was done.
Last year on Mother's Day, we were having the typical rush around and try to get ready for Church with everyone crying and carrying on. Everything is a mess and everyone has long forgotten that this is a wonderful day to honor me and the amazing job that is motherhood. We finally have the older one and the baby loaded in the car and I am looking for Eli. I have searched everywhere and I finally round the corner to go into the bathroom. And there was Eli. He was applying my chapstick very carefully to Jack's . . . rear end. Eli looked right into my eyes and said "chapped."
If you have a cat, you know that he is right--their little butts do look pretty chapped. And, frankly, Jack didn't seem to mind. And the only question to really ask at that point was whether it was the FIRST time Eli had done that to the cat's behind or the hundredth. And THAT is my favorite Mother's Day moment ever because it reminds us that no matter how hard we try to civilize these glorious little creatures, there will always be that day when you realize they've been using your chapstick on the cat's butt.

Hey, Jack, here is my post from yesterday about the cancellation of my presentation.
Well, gang, for once the vibes didn't work. My presentation is cancelled today. We had an electrical fire in one of the HVAC rooms on the second floor (that's where my presentation was happening). The fire alarm blew just as we were supposed to begin. The acrid smell of electrical wires burning (and that piercing fire alarm and strobe light) sent everyone out of the room. The presentation has been postponed until the week of May 21 (since I'm on vacation all next week).
Perhaps the vibes did work in a funny way because yesterday was the less than professional presentation and some people asked me guarded questions about my dog and pony show in a way that made me think they didn't want to sit through another one of these things. In two weeks Mr. Charm will be a memory (in presentation terms at least) and I will start with a clean slate!
-
that chick should have oniomania'ed herself a bra.

True. But, I think that SHE thought she was about to audition for a stage version of The First Nudie Musical, right after her shopping binge. She was just saving time.

Good morning, all! Why the hell was I dreaming about Nehemiah Persoff last night I will never know! I was a guest artist at some university and Mr Persoff was the star of the production. An actor dropped out in the juvenile role and suddenly I was forced into doing it. And there was something about me trying to locate my missing script, but it's all too vague now.
Need I add that I slept quite badly last night? I didn't fall asleep until after 1:30 AM, although I turned off the lights around 11:30.
Today, a trek to Toyland, then lunch with the drummer who played THE TRAGIC LIFE OF THE SINGING NUN last year and who's just returned from China. I then meet up with our DR Jose, and later I have dinner with three friends to discuss the Library of Congress LIFE BEGINS AT 8:40 project.

One of my worst dining experiences was a few years ago at a well-know restaurant in Ocean City, NJ. Though we had a reservation, we still had to wait a half hour to be seated. It took forever to even meet our waitress for the first time just to hand over menus and take drink orders. And then we waited close to forty-five minutes to get our food. We waited again for the watress to bring our bill, at which point my niece's oaf of a boyfriend decided he wanted to order dessert, which meant tacked on another half hour to the meal. I could have killed him...

In the news: FRACAS IN BOSTON
BOSTON, Massachusetts (AP) -- Concert-goers, and even Boston Pops conductor Keith Lockhart, were caught off-guard when a fight broke out on opening night at usually sedate Symphony Hall.
Television video of the fight Wednesday night showed two men struggling in the balcony -- one with his shirt pulled off -- as several people stood around them.
Lockhart briefly halted the performance, which featured singer-songwriter Ben Folds, while the men were escorted out.
Witnesses said they heard a scream from the balcony, and the sound of chairs falling, then a second scream as the fight escalated.
"The first time there was a scream, Keith looked up that way but he kept going," audience member June MacIndoe told Boston's WHDH-TV. "Then about a minute and a half later...there was a big scream and you could hear chairs falling over and you could see them up there, fists going."
At that point, Lockhart stopped the performance for a couple of minues, she said. "He just stood there, you know, quiet."
Boston police spokesman David Estrada said police officers on security detail at the hall escorted the men off the property, and no charges were filed. No injuries were reported, he said.
A Boston Symphony spokeswoman did not immediately return a call for comment.

We may have more rain, too. We had a good, strong May shower early last evening that lasted over an hour.

I'll also have to add Denny's to my list of bad restaurant experiences. Actually, I went into one in the late afternoon (this was many years ago), was told to seat myself, and then I waited twenty minutes and no one ever came with water, a menu, tableware, nothing. There wasn't even anyone around for me to call out to, so I just left.

Yes, DR Jennifer, the powers that be at the CW were very enthusiastic over the VERONICA MARS pitch that send the story four years into the future while Veronica is working at the FBI. That will free up Chris Lowell (Piz) to take the part in the GREY'S ANATOMY spin-off, now called PRIVATE PRACTICE.

I really wish sites would not talk about plot points of shows that aired. i just came across one for LOST. I had planned to watch the series when it hits DVD and now I have learned an important plot point that I hope won't ruin my enjoyment for season 3. I have tried so carefully not to read anything and there it was.
Damn AOL Entertainment News. Damn them all to hell!

While I don't want to deprive anyone of their pleasure in watching American Idol, and therefore don't openly :) announce a wish for the show's end, I'm a little perturbed by the show's effect on the recording industry, which directly affects the status of pop music and pop culture in this generation. I wouldn't want the show to end for the sake of those who enjoy it, but I would like to see it have less impact on our pop culture. Too bad for me, i guess.
-
The worst experience in a restaurant that I can remember wasn't really the fault of the restaurant itself, but of a restaurant across the street.
Der Brucer and I were fond of a place called Love's The Rib Joint, in Lakewood, CA. Great place to get Texas beef ribs, and we'd always take home the bones for the dogs. We were in the habit of being seated in the bar/lounge area, because it was quieter than the main dining room.
This one night, we were seated at the middle table. An elderly couple were at the end table. We had just started our meal when a group arrived and took the corner table, behind me.
I have never heard such language in a public place before! This was a mixed group, men and women, and the women were just as foul-mouthed as the men! And they were being quite loud about it.
The elderly woman at the end table was absolutely devastated. She and her husband had not finished their meal, but it was clear that she could not stay in such a hostile environment. Der Brucer and I managed to eat some of our meal, but requested the doggy bags earlier than normal.
What made things worse was that the group at the corner table worked at a Mexican-themed restaurant across the street. A couple of them were still wearing their name tags, with the name of their establishment clear for all to read!
Amazingly, the staff at Love's didn't once ask them to modify their language.
-
Scary, isn't it? :)
Very!

What bothers me about American Yodel is that the performers are expected to sing from a list of songs that have been pre-selected and cleared for performance.
This has two effects. First, the contestants are always being compared to the original performance of the song. And then they are chided for not bringing anything original to the stage.
Bleh.
Second, this suggests that original material has no worth, that songwriters might as well give up because everything good has already been written.
Again, bleh.
So we get a group of performers prancing around, wagging their tushies and strutting, holding something phallic to their mouths while their other hand flails around like an out-of-control helicopter.
I'd much rather see a performer play an instrument, such as a guitar or a piano, and sing something they've written themselves.
I guess I idolize the wrong kind of talent.
-

Why do songs need to be cleared? Once a song has been recorded isn't fair game for anyone who wants to sing it as long as they pay the royalities?
-
Why are we in SuperCinerama this morning (or is it just my monitor)?
I remember going to see Good Neighbor Sam when I was very small--Dorothy Provine's sorority sister and best friend was the wife of a guy who worked for my Dad at Sears and she took us all. I still remember the repeatedly botched Hertz commercial, with the killer last gag--"Man, is that a good cup of coffee."
George--be prepared for a major shocker (like gasp out loud) moment from last night's Lost.
-
As I understand it, AI has a list of songs for which they have pre-paid the royalties. This includes subsequent broadcasts of the songs performed, including in other media, thus giving AI the anciliary income from CDs and DVDs.
The lack of clearance is what has caused some shows (including dramas and comedies using source music) to have thier soundtracks altered or cut when released in other media, or blocked the release in the other media entirely. I believe this is why WKRP in Cincinatti is having trouble being released on DVD - the original shows used a lot of source music, as was befitting the radio station locale of the series.
-
I understand there are more gasp out loud moments to come in the show's remaining episodes this season.
-
I have never seen American Idol, thus I have no opinion of it. And I have not paid very much attention to American or European pop music over the last 15 years so wouldn't know what effect this show has or could have on it.
On the other hand I do have the CD for the top ten singers on Indian Idol...and I rather liked most of the songs and singers on it.

Is anyone here bothered by OJ Simpson being told to leave a restaurant in Kentucky, because the owner was offended by OJ Simpson being OJ Simpson?
Is anyone here bothered by Paris Hilton being told she has a reservation in the clink? Or is her asking her fans to petition Governor Arnold to give her a pardon more bothersome?
Just wondering.

I have not read any other comments yet. But i just want to say i found last night's show very interesting.
Most of the previous backstories have been either slightly boring or not really that relevant to the story. But this one was incredible.
I will say that juliet and jack's declaration was extremely predictable. However i was completely shock by what ben did to locke at the end. And since i don't read spoilers or watch previews i had absolutely no idea. Now i am wondering if locke will be gone or what (please don't spoil this if you know).
Great show!

Good Morning!
Whew! (my watch cry), I guess I did sleep in today, but I'm up.
-
As for the Topic of the Day...
I've had some less than ideal restaurant experiences, but nothing truly terrible. Both my parents are in the food service industry, so I guess I was brought up with more of an understanding of what could possibly go wrong at a restaurant, and why. Conversely, I also know when I walk into a place that I will probably not end up having a good meal there... And then I walk to another place.
...And I have no problem leaving a "deserving" tip, for better or worse (service).
-
I'm up, I'm up. Another pretty day here - we'll see how hot it gets. The house to the north of me sold a few months ago - workers arrived early this morning and are quite noisy - I hope they're only doing minor work.
-
Oh!.... But, I do have one "fond" memory restaurant memory from my childhood...
My mom is a registered dietitian, and she was frequently called upon to head out of town for various conferences and seminars. There was an annual one down in Virginia Beach, and my parents would end up making it a mini-vacation for the family since it was just a little over a three hour drive from Fairfax. So...
We had settled into our booth at Pizza Hut, and placed our order with our waitress. And then we waited for our food. And waited. And waited.
And while we were waiting, we noticed that our waitress was talking with some friends at a table on the other side of the restaurant. And talking. And talking.
Then we noticed that our pizza had come out of the oven, and was set out ready to be delivered to our table. And it sat there. And sat there. And she was still talking. And talking. And we waited. And waited.
Oh!
-Here's your pizza. Is there anything...
Then my mom gently interrupted her, "Excuse me, but we saw that our order came out of the oven over ten minutes ago, and we would like for our order to be remade. We would like a fresh pizza."
Oh...
So, after ten minutes, we had a hot, fresh out of the oven pizza on our table. Along with some surprisingly attentive service for the remainder of our meal.
Once we were all done, we stacked our plates and sorted the silverware - something my mom always made us do ??? - "Mom, we're not at home?!?!" Then the bill came. My mom took the bill, left just enough cash to cover the amount, then took out one of her "Better Eating" pamphlets from her conference bag. She wrote, "YOUR TIP" on it. And we left the restaurant.
Go Mom!

Would you like one of these?
A Sweet So Sour: Kool-Aid Dills (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/09/dining/09kool.html?_r=1&ref=dining&oref=slogin)
A gallon jar of pickles sits near the register at Lee’s Washerette and Food Market, a mustard-colored cinder-block bunker on the western fringe of this Mississippi Delta town.
Those pickles were once mere dills. They were once green. Their exteriors remain pebbly, a reminder that long ago they began their lives on a farm, on the ground, as cucumbers.
But they now have an arresting color that combines green and garnet, and a bracing sour-sweet taste that they owe to a long marinade in cherry or tropical fruit or strawberry Kool-Aid.
Kool-Aid pickles violate tradition, maybe even propriety. Depending on your palate and perspective, they are either the worst thing to happen to pickles since plastic brining barrels or a brave new taste sensation to be celebrated.

TOD - I had such a bad experience at a local Starbucks a few years ago that, when I got to work, I called the toll-free customer service line. The guy on the other end let me vent for a while, then he offered to send me a $20 gift card to compensate. I said I'd be glad to accept the gift card, but I'd never set foot in that particular Starbucks again - and I haven't.

There are few other "taste sensations" described in the article:
"Dipping hot Cheetos in ice cream"
"Dill pickles impaled on peppermint sticks"
"[dipped] pickle spears in dry Kool-Aid mix"
Hmm... ???

-I just want to know if anyone has battered and deep-fried them.

I've had me a minor problem with Amazon. Yesterday, I received an order that contained three CDs--all of which the covers were cracked to pieces within the cellophane. I promptly went to the Returned Items site and filled out the request replacements form. I packaged up the damaged CDs and dropped it off in my mail room (no postage required with the printed out label.)
Last night I got an e-mail from an Amazon customer service rep saying they were sorry that I had a problem. But this guy's idea of resolving my issue was to send me ONE empty CD case, which I should receive in two to three weeks. Well, I sent a response back so quick that it made my own head swim. I told the guy that I received THREE damaged CDs and that I had already sent them back and that I expect replacement copies pronto. And so this morning I received a reply (from a different rep) apologizing for Amazon not fully understanding the issue and that replacements were on the way out. And guess what? I may keep the empty CD case that is also being sent to me free of charge!
Of course, I wouldn't doubt that I am going to be getting duplicate copies of the replacements and charged for at least one set of them.

I have not read any other comments yet. But i just want to say i found last night's show very interesting.
Very interesting, indeed. We got some answers about the Others. I now understand why they are so feral on one hand and yet have access to so much advanced technology (technology which they dangerously do not always understand.) Also laid to rest is the idea that the Others have never killed.
I'm sure that Locke will heal quickly from the gun wound, just as he did last week from the bite on his hand from his father.
But now we have another new mystery with this Jacob. What is he all about? Is he technological or mystical in nature? Does he have anything to do with the smoke monster? I don't think we will learn anything new about him until the show comes back next January. Arrrrrrgh!!!

I've only been to Denny's a few times, but one of my worst restaurant experiences was at one. I had to wait and wait for my meal, only to learn it had been sitting a while and not brought to the table. When I received it it was, of course, completely cold. When I complained to the manager he rolled his eyes, said something about the restaurant being busy, and suggested I try something from the steam table/buffet instead so I could get it quickly. I wasn't in a rush, I simply wanted hot food in a reasonable time.

Yes, DR WOODY, I had a bit of a problem with that. I realize that many people loathe OJ Simpson--and I'm fine with that-- but there are many others who do abhorrent things. If you're running a business that's open to the public, maybe you need to be open to the public, provided no one is behaving badly in your establishment at that time. I do understand taking a stand and such, but he was acquitted.
And, yes, Paris Hilton is too tiresome for words.
Just my opinion.

I forgot to mention my most favorite part of the whole show last night. It was when they showed Ben on his birthday. He put on the gas mask ... and then .... wholy crap. I know ben is evil. But that was a little much even for him.
Btw, i have no idea who or what jacob is. At first i thought he was dead and ben was "seeing" him.
Also, that Hostile guy who found young ben, was he supposed to be that guy from camp? The guy from camp's father?
Let's say ben was 12 then and it was 30 years ago, or even 25. Well that guy from camp is only like30 or 40. And he was like 20 then (maybe?). At first i thought it had to be his father. But now i think maybe we're supposed to think it is the guy from camp?
-
Re: Lost Theories (potential spoilers)
Entertainment Weekly posited some time ago, after that first passing mention of Jacob, that Jacob was the smoke monster, which I am now beginning to agree with. Jacob may be "lost" himself in some alternate form, hence his "help me" last night.
I also agree that Locke will probably heal; on the other hand, this show has already shown it doesn't mind killing off a major character now and then just to keep us guessing.

His name is Richard (or "Mr. Wears More Mascara than Michael Jackson," as I fondly refer to him). I think it was supposed to be the same guy, but I agree--the age difference was striking, and, I think, intentional. I think that has something to do with the island and the experiments.
BTW, my working theory right now is that Richard was part of the scientific expedition that Danielle was part of.
And has anyone else thought that Alex was born on the island? Unless Ben & Danielle went somewhere else for a while?

Re: OJ. Personally I applaud that business owner. Any restaurant owner, or store owner, or any owner of a private business has a choice not to serve/wait on anybody they choose, whether or not their reason is sound. In this particular instance, I think his reason was very sound. OJ's "acquittal" was a farce. IMHO. :)

I meant to comment on last night's show, which i loved btw.
I am so sad that next week is the finale. And i did not watch the previews, so i haven no idea what will happen.
I must say that i am really liking this to be continued shows. I'm not sure if most people do. But i like having the story continued, instead of having it crammed into 1 hour.
One thing though, did anybody else find the reporter's identity completely obvious. I really wish that they had not made it that obvious, so i could have gasped with surprise.
But other than that it was great seeing alison and her hubby reconnect.
I wonder if next week's show will be a cliffhanger or if it will just wrap up this story. Also, i'm wondering what will happen if the article is printed.

One of the things I brought home from storage was an old big fake book of songs, mostly theater and film. This is the only book that I know of that has the Livingston/Evans inspired by song from Vertigo, a real hoot and the nadir of inspired by songs. While perusing, I came upon a song from Golden Boy that I'd never heard of called What Became Of Me? It was obviously cut from the show. So, loving that score as I do, I began playing the song - as soon as I finished the first line I realized that Mr. Strouse, knowing a good tune when he wrote one, recycled the melody for the title song from Dance A Little Closer, by simply adding another syllable onto the end of the first line (clo-ser, instead of "me"). Fun, huh? Had I known that, I would have included it on one of the Lost In Bostons.

I had seen that earlier... Sad to see such activity at a performance. For me theater, good movie, or even enjoying a reading is what I escape for and it bothers me to see it marred by imbecile actions.
-
I'm very fond of Mr Lockhart; I've done three Boston Pops concerts, and I've always enjoyed working with him. I think he's he's quite good at his job. He doesn't suffer fools during rehearsal and he's always prepared with questions when the rehearsal begins.
I enjoy him also. I particularly like the Celtic album he did.
A piece of Boston Pops trivia here...
The Chieftains, along with Burgess Meredith and dancer Jean Butler appeared on Pops when John Williams was conducting I believe in 1990.

Had an incredibly busy and a nice day yesterday. I had a meeting early in the morning that lasted a lot longer than scheduled and after the meeting I met up with a freind and DBF Jon for some Iced tea and we had lunch at Juanos (Best burritos and Fajitas in Fargo) and sat outside on their patio for a couple of hours chatting and stuff before I had to go to work at 330. The nice warm sun felt great and it was the most relaxed I had felt in a long time.
Work was annoying, short staffed and trying to get things ready for summer reserves because summer classes start on Monday. I had to spend nearly two hours searching for a book that was not correctly catalogued. It was a book called Subduing Satan by Ted Ownby, a reknown scholar on Reconstruction and segregationism in the Deep South. I finally found it....
They had it catalogued as a fiction book in the general reading area. They classified it as a Science fiction book.

I have nothing to add to the conversation about bad meals in restaurants. Except to say that Burger King has been consistently disappointing in terms of the meal being served cold. And as we've been through, a burger is not a dish best served cold.

TOD:
I have several nasty restaurant experiences.
One happened when I was still living in Grand Forks when my friend Maureen and I went to the local Perkins restaurant. It was later in the evening and rather empty. There was only about 4 people besides us. They seated us and we waited.... and waited.... and waited for service. There was a couple that came in after we did and they got served promptly. We waited around for about 30 minutes with growing irritation and decided to go elsewhere. Just as we were leaving, they said they were just coming to serve us. I told the Jerk that it was too late and we were going elsewhere. The jerk then proceeded to tell us that they did not serve lesbians. Needless to say I took HIS NAME, his super's name and I called the owner the next day and he got an earful. To this day I will not step foot in a Perkins because of that. I was offended by his insinuation.
My other one has to do with a slightly better restaurant in FArgo and I was interested in having a lo-cal pasta salad they had on special and I was asking about the the salad dressing and if it had any aspartame in it. I was asking due to an allergy I have to it. The young lady serving me blew up and said it was a rude question to ask and stormed off. Apparently the owner of the restaurant was in and came over to tend to the matter and quickly answered my question. She was not happy with the waitress and had difficulties with her in the past but felt my question was appropriate due to having health issues. The manager gave me my meal free. Since that incident I have never had trouble with that restaurant. Actually the owner is always happy to see me! She did fire the waitress that gave me trouble.
I have had less than pleasant experiences with McD and Burger King and have been completely turned off of those places. I actually prefer a nice little mom and pop restaurant at times or even going to the grocery store deli and picking up a hardroll or two and some meat and cheese slices and having a picnic somewhere.
-
I cannot think of bad restaurant experiences.

I shall now be on my way to Farmer's Market.

DRMATTH was It's All Relative that Doctor show with Winkler and Channing? I liked that too.
DR DtM - you may end up with SIX cd's!
No, DR JRand. You're thinking of last season's OUT OF PRACTICE which I also loved (and I don't think CBS ever telecast all of the episodes it had.)
IT'S ALL RELATIVE was the ABC comedy from two or three years ago with Christopher Sieber and John Benjamin Hickey as the gay couple whose daughter was marrying a bar owner's son. Harriet Sansom Harris played the mother of the son.
-
Will we never get to page seven?
Sure.
-
I watched MEDIUM first when I got in from lunch (while also fielding two lengthy phone calls). Loved the show, but I, too, guessed who Debra was before the reveal so it wasn't a surprise. I did, however, feel sorry for poor naive Allison for putting all her trust in this friendly stranger.
I really loved the DEAL OR NO DEAL sequence.
I don't mind the story arcs when the story necessitates them. We've also got Joe's agonizing decision about Diotech going on at the same time.
But there haven't been THAT many MEDIUM stories that couldn't be self-contained.
I have to say that there was a ratings drop last week, and if there was one last night, they may not try any more of these lengthy story arcs next season.
-
Next came CSI: NY and the resolution of the three episode story arc with Joey Lawrence. Mac was on the hotseat for much of the show, but I loved how it all turned out.
The murder story this week had to do with a body found in a man's washroom and blood belonging to tennis player John McEnroe at the scene. McEnroe played himself and another character in the story, and very well, too.
-
I put in the 1999 and the 2007 versions of THE THIRD MAN on DVD and did some A/B comparisons between the two of them. I couldn't see a penny's worth of difference in either of them, so unless one was aching for the few extras added to the new set, I wouldn't bother upgrading.
In fact, the older one has a soundtrack that hasn't been amped to the skies and which I actually prefer.
-
I also began listening to film professor Dana Polan's analysis of the film. I much preferred it to the conversation on the movie between Soderbergh and Gilroy on the alternature commentary track.
I understand, however, that a more intellectual discussion of the film will not be for all tastes.

I think a restaurant owner has the right to refuse service to anyone he wants, and I agree with him: Mr Simpson is a killer with whom I too have no urge to associate.
As to celebutramp Hilton, I think she should be put to sleep for the good of mankind and to keep the lowering national intelligence level up. If Ahnuld seriously cosiders pardoning the moron, he's even dumber than I already think he is.

I would bare OJ also if I had a restaurant. I applaud him. I have a word that describes him that is not even polite to put on the board

Personally, I believe restaurant owners do have the right to refuse service. If a known criminal element were to come into a restaurant I owned, I would not want them there - they would scare off the customers I do want as customers.
In the case of OJ, the very next customer to come in and be seated at the very same table was none other than Michael Jackson. So much for OJ's lawyer claiming racism in this case.

...As to celebutramp Hilton,... If Ahnuld seriously cosiders pardoning the moron, he's even dumber than I already think he is.
There is no way he'd buckle under to a letter writing campaign on behalf of Paris.
However, an arguement could be made that anyone having to share a cell with the self-absorbed Hilton would undergo a form of inhumane punishment. Forty-five days in solitary is the only way I can think of to avoid this.
Preferably in a soundproofed, padded cell.

DR SWW - I sure wish we librarians could use the same logic in refusing admittance to some of our bottom-feeders. They're scaring off the tax-payers we'd like to keep on our side.

It's amazing how many cookies can be consumed during Paul's monologue. ;)

And The Muppet Show!
A woman that I work with told me that there was a TV show (I forget which) with an episode that heavily featured a song by Sting (not just the music playing in the background, but I think it was specifically referenced in the script), but the show couldn't get the rights for the song for the DVD release. So instead of trying to totally butcher the episode, they just released the season DVDs without that episode. :-\
My friend had taped it when it was originally on TV and just made a DVR copy from her VHS tape. She said that it was good enough for her...she now has the truly complete season...of whatever show it was.

Hey, why is Jose a genius and I am clueless???
If it's any comfort, you're both sluts.

Jose's chord changes are of the musical kind. Your cord changes involve pants.

I'd evict the pedophile, too! Neither one of them's an asset to any race, and the poor Queen of Pop wants to be a white lady, to boot.

You'll enjoy last night's LOST, DR George. Last night's MEDIUM will be my first stop this afternoon though I understand from reading TV GUIDE that the story with Neve Campbell still doesn't reach a conclusion this week and continues on to next week.
It looks like the nature of the whole show could change a LOT because of what's happening in this story-line. :o I don't know if this is what happened to the real Allison Dubois, but it's definitely getting interesting!

And no chihuahua to dangle as an accessory, neither before or after the fact.
I hope they let her keep her nail file for sexual gratification.
-
...And just to whet your appetite... Or maybe this will cause you to lose it...
Free Paris Hilton (http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/PH21781/)
And not a single comment on her status as a nail-filing porn star!

The University of Toronto's gift to the theatre strikes again on the chat line, I see. A person inquired about a place for scripts, and the ass curtly answered, "A bookshop."
Finding his claims to be a "teacher" dubious, I'm once again amazed by his rudeness and arrogance. When another person accused him of being rude, he snidely referred to the original poster's "whining" and ingenuously said that a bookstore was the source for books. I wonder if the ass is that curt and rude to his unfortunate students. Why he couldn't have simply and politely referred a novice looking for help to a theatre bookstore in Toronto or Manhattan eludes me.

I was searching our High Demand list and one TV series DVD was listed as being shelved in the Adult Non-fiction BOOK section! Fortunately, it was only in the computer as a ANF Book, but still you'd think that someone would've caught this sooner. It'd been out for a couple of years!

The couple of times I watched THE SIMPLE LIFE - Paris Hilton seemed to have some humanity about her and certainly interacted with the people she was with to a greater degree than her colleague.
She was pretty much without a "real world" mentality, which isn't surprising considering her upbringing.
But her sense of entitlement is outrageous - another non-surprise considering her upbringing and the "celebrity" world she exists in. Sad....and as her mother said: "After all the money we spent!"
-
What was that cartoon dog that said "The nose knows...." I remember that I didn't think he was very funny.
And thanks to MR BK for sending Ms Petula Clark to me.
-
No, DR JRand.
And the woman who played the daughter on "It's All Relative" is now on the show, "Psych." I really like that show, too. :)
-
Cute clip from Ratatouille - thanks, DR Francois!

I have nothing to add to the conversation about bad meals in restaurants. Except to say that Burger King has been consistently disappointing in terms of the meal being served cold. And as we've been through, a burger is not a dish best served cold.
Have you ever had a McDonald's Filet-O-Fish that was still partially frozen?? That was the worst for me. I got it from the drive-thru one night and driven a couple of blocks before I realized what had happened. I turned around and drove all the way back and went inside to get a new one. The replacement wasn't frozen, but it still wasn't very warm, either. :P

Beautiful pictures DR Laura!

Cool! Maybe you can keep it in mind for a future "Lost In Boston" on Kritzerland??
-
George, that is one of many reasons I do not like McDonalds

Thank you.

I'm done with my work for today and shall now watch a motion picture on DVD.

Will we never get to page nine?

My WORST experience in a restaurant was in the States, when the customers walked out WITHOUT paying and my supervisor (YES! I was the waiter!) asked me to pay their bill... something that,I learned too late, is illegal!
Needless to say, I did NOT make money (tips) that shift and, I don't recall, but might have been in for a few bucks too!
From then on, I did not use the "book" in which we had to put the bill; I then brought the bill on a small plate, period!
Thinking now about that event, I think the people were "foolish" NOT to spend more since their 4 meals were on me!

You mean.... something was fishy about your Filet-O-Fish?!
Got the same problem when buying some éclairs at my local supermarket; they were still half-frozen but tasted like ice-cream bars! Don't you love our modern world? ;)

I just got back from a delicious Italian dining experince :)> Tony's Bella Vista in Burbank, absolutley wonderful.

Is this a slow news day here at haineshisway.com? Why must we fall into these patterns, I wonder? Last year, May was one of our all-time low months.
-
Once at Burger King, my burger was simply cold, so i brought it back to the counter and the guy heated it up. But as if in revenge for my complaint,. he made it insanely hot, even scorching.
So maybe in the world of food, revenge is a dish best served scorching hot.

Yup...that would do it. ::)

BK, did you get my email from this afternoon? We were sitting around coming up with cute potential CD titles.

We're trying to beat last May record!

No spoilers.
I must say i've heard basically nothing about the new ABC show TRAVELER (is that what it is called?). I'm not sure if they've been plugging it (although the GREY'S ANATOMY lead-in might just save them). But i'm really enjoying the show. I really like one of the leads (i think his name is something like ron bohmer). And i'm curious to see the end.
-
I am watching a very cute 1955 musical that my DVR recorded the other day...BRING ALONG YOUR SMILE...all I can say is Lucy Marlow should have had a bigger career! She is wonderful in this movie!
Now if I could just get her to respond to my letters requesting an interview!
-
UGLY BETTY was so full of plots, I cannot wait for next week's finale to see how much they wrap up. My dinner with friends was quite wonderful, and after two margaritas I'm feeling little pain.
I wonder if I'm facing more dreams about Nehemiah Persoff tonight? If Alla Nazimova shows up as well, it should be interesting. Oy!
-
Will we never get to page nine?
Comin' right up!

I watched the documentary on the second disc of the THIRD MAN set on the making of the film. It's the same documentary that aired on the Independent Film Channel a year or two ago. It has some interesting things in it, but the clips from the film go on too long, and often they're "artily" projected onto banks of snow, walls, venetian blinds, etc. Very pretentious. A film masterpiece like THE THIRD MAN doesn't need that kind of presentation to signal its greatness.
All that clip stuff extended it to 93 minutes, about 20 minutes too long for the information they had to impart.
-
Yes, I loved UGLY BETTY. Some secrets spilled; others still being worked on.
DR Elmore, you know how these kinds of shows love cliffhangers, so I wouldn't count on too many of these plots to get wrapped up next week. They're going to keep us on edge all summer.
I also read that ABC is contemplating moving UGLY BETTY to Sunday night next year as a lead-in to DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES. I hope this does NOT happen.
-
GREY'S ANATOMY had some memorable events tonight, but I have to say
that introducing a new woman into Derek's life is not going to sit well with me. They have to keep separating this couple by all these artificial means, and I'm afraid folks are going to lose patience with the show.
-
Will we never get to page ten?
-
FJL - haven't checked e-mail at that address today, will now.
-
WITHOUT A TRACE had a story tonight that seemed to be about a woman kidnapped in the street, but it rather cleverly turned into the kidnapping of her daughter. It was a neat little twist.
I have to say I was not the LEAST interested in the continuing storyline with Elena and her stalker ex-husband, and it looks like this plot is going right ahead into next season. Yuck!
-
Will we never get to page ten?
I have a good feeling about that happening and pretty soon, too.
-
So, on top of all the shows I recorded tonight, I still have both THE SOPRANOS and SVU from this week that are still unwatched.
And, oops, I forgot to record SUPERNATURAL tonight. Well, it's the first part of a two part episode, so I guess they'll recap it at the first of next week's show.

I need to sit down this weekend and figure out where I am and what I have left to do. It's gotten a little disorganized...I don't want to miss something.

I went to a different office furniture store today and the salesman really irritated me. He said he needed to see the space then he could tell me everything I need and he handed me a catalogue that didn't fit at all with what I told him I had in mind. Don't think I'll go back there

I told him I had my own ideas about how I wanted to decorate and he said "Well I'll have to look at it" Oh please, he is not the arbiter of style for my office.

That is all, good night

FJL has lost Internet connectivity.
Does that mean I have to come over now? ;)
Otherwise, just tell him if you happen to connect with him otherwise to:
1) Unplug the modem. *Just pull the A/C adapter out from the back of the unit.
2) Unplug the router. *Just pull the A/C adapter..
3) Unplug the phone/cable from the modem.
4) Wait ten seconds.
5) Plug the phone/cable back in.
6) Plug the modem back in.
7) Plug the router back in.
8) Wait a few seconds for it to reboot.

Will we never get to page eleven? Mother of mercy, is this the end of Rico?

Personally I applaud that business owner. Any restaurant owner, or store owner, or any owner of a private business has a choice not to serve/wait on anybody they choose, whether or not their reason is sound.
So you have no problem with a business owner refusing to serve Jews?
