And a happy haineshisway.com to former dear reader Jay.
Most of the short story collections I have have titles of one of the stories in the book. I suppose I could just call it Short Stories, but that doesn't seem right. I may print the two or three titles that are the only possibles, and take a poll.
Too bad I am in ND..... I would love to see it...
...it looks like we’ll be taping the final two performances in hi-def, with a look to perhaps selling it. It isn’t 100% yet, but it’s close.
BK did write in his notes:So it may be possible for you (and anyone else) to see it! Of course, it's not the same as seeing it live, but still, I think it's a pretty exciting possibility!
DakotaCelt, sounds like you love Matt as much as I love The Manhattan Transfer. I have all of their albums, and I've traded obscure songs with this guy in Utah! He's gotten CD copies 20+ year old radio interviews! I've recorded several of their concerts that've been broadcast on the Internet. And one time, Janis Siegel (the alto, and my favorite member of the group) was doing a radio interview in St. Louis, MO that was also being streamed on the 'net. I stayed home from work (I told my boss what I was doing and I had the vacation time ;)) and recorded this half-hour interview. It was also a live call-in show and I called (free long distance on my cell phone!) and spoke with Janis on the radio that was also being streamed live on the Internet! It was pretty cool!
There's much new TV on tonight, but I noticed that DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES is a repeat of the Gabby kissing Tom episode (which also contained all those hot scenes with Andrew and Justin). Just a heads up for those interested.
I
That being said, I can't ever recall seeing her in a leading role that I have liked. Love her for the most part in supporting roles, especially those set in the 50's and 60's but I don't like her when she's carrying a film.
And a very happy birthday to DR Jay. No one is a former poster, they’re just busy for awhile. I always hope that someday they will be back. :)
Good Morning! Good Afternoon!
Well... After waking up on the couch around 11:30 last night, and realizing that I had probably been asleep for a couple of hours by that point... I just headed to bed... And now...
;)
Good Morning.
Ashley Judd is okay in my book. Can't think of the name of the film I saw her in that I really liked...set in the fifties, I think, she was a battered wife...
Didn't really get any extra sleep today. Trying to figure out who I can coerce into coming to help me run lines today. Matt and I will work every day during the week - I suppose I could just sit and do them myself, but I don't think that's as good as having lines fed to me.
Mornin', Jose!
Bon appetit as you indulge in a petit dejeuner!
Or will you go out for a run first?
DR elmore - Maybe you need some rice pudding from Artie's. I had some the other night, and it made my foot feel better.
:)
Thank you, DR Jose! I believe Artie's rice pudding can perform many miracles. I am also sorry that I missed you and DRJason.
DR Dan (the Man) - Your Oscar Pool Sparkling Prize(s) should be reaching you on Monday. :)
Sorry for the delay.
And on their next to last recording called "Couldn't Be Hotter," they had a song called, "Nothing Could Be Hotter Than That." I always thought that that was cool, that they specifically didn't name their albums after the name of a song.
Re: Rodzinski's comment last night:
"To the theory of murder, the experts did say, "Tut tut."
I can only say:
G R O A N !
No need to apologize, good sir. The joy was in the winning.
Prize(s)? Prize(s)?!? Yippee!!!
DakotaCelt, sounds like you love Matt as much as I love The Manhattan Transfer.

It's also difficult not to have someone throwing the cues to me.
YES, but it takes one man to please DakotaCelt while you, George, "need" two couples! ;D
The play is not going to extend. We close on April 1st, so it's just this coming weekend and the next weekend, Friday and Saturday nights only.
I'm trying to get hold of my assistant director to be there for some rehearsals, but I don't know if she can. At this point, it will be what it will be, I suppose. I pretty much know HOW I'm going to play it, it's just getting the fershluganah lines in my noggin.
Adventures With My Father and Other Stories
Adventures With My Father and Other Stories
I,of course, vote for the Book Scout...It is the most intriguing of the titles. Adventures with My Father sounds rather soft and nebulous. Sweet Dreams conjures up nothing other than Patsy Cline. The Book Scout is interesting because a lot of people just don't know what a book scout is and therefore it has a bit of mystery to it. And those who do know what a book scout does, will also bite.
It is raining today.
DR Francois, dahling!!
Matt is not the only man I admire!!! There are a number of Brits, Irish, Aussies, a German or two....

For great immediate relief of foot pain, I recommend the turkey club sandwich from the rather elaborate deli (Tommy something-or-other's) on the east corner of the block from the Princess of Wales Theater in Toronto. There was so much walking to do from the plane arrival area to the ground transportation area, and then after we picked up our tickets at the theater, couldn't find a place that was open before noon, until we shlepped around and found the place right on the corner of the theater's block. My left foot (a Daniel Day Lewis film reference) was suffering, until I had the warm trukey club sandwich, at which point all pain miraculously disappeared. (Or maybe it was just sitting in a comfortable place that helped, but I like to think of good food as a cure-all.)
BTW, in case it ever comes up on a quiz show, the answer to the question "Do celebrities get better treatment on an airplane?" is a resounding yes. The wonderful actor Peter Dinklage (of THE STATION AGENT fame) happened to be on our flight to Toronto, and a lot of attention (although not fawning) was paid to him. As it happens, while he is as short of physical stature as he seems to be on film and stage, he seemed to be extraordinarily pleasant and charismatic, and actually quite a bit handsomer than one would expect from his film appearances.
MISTY'S WATER-COLORED MAMMORIES - that's the title of my new Russ Meyer-like screenplay about paint-on tattoos
Francois - Isn't there an old song "I've been to Paree twice, but I've never been to me."
Interesting choices so far. I've been thinking about changing the title of the story called Sweet Dreams to I'll See You In My Dreams - more resonance perhaps. What say you? Just for the story, not the collection.

My first inclination is this title simply because it seems to grab the attention more then the others....but without knowing what the stories are about I can't say if this title is the best choice.
But You Don't Know Paree!.... I mean ME! ;)
Dahling?! Dahling?!
Are you channelling PennyO?!
Larry is now a category 5 storm battering the land of Queens in OZ.
And on their next to last recording called "Couldn't Be Hotter," they had a song called, "Nothing Could Be Hotter Than That." I always thought that that was cool, that they specifically didn't name their albums after the name of a song. Just a thought.
George you're getting me confused!!
"Hotter" is cool?!?! ;)

Indeed a cycle is battering the coast of Queensland at the moment. I blame Jose (for letting Larry loose).
I was awakened by a call at seven from Harvey Schmidt's assistant, telling me Harvey will now be in rehab for two weeks. Apparently, Harvey isn't happy about not coming home, but his triple bypass surgery one that needs to heal perfectly, and they're concerned that he'll over exert himself if he's home (even a simple thing like pushing yourself up to get off a chair is dangerous) - so, it's probably best. I'll be calling him later today and will pass on all your excellent vibes and xylophones, for which I know he'll be grateful.
How about THE BOOK SCOUT AND OTHER NOVEL STORIES? :)
Just got off the phone with my muse Margaret - we were batting around what we should call the short story collection. She actually really liked the same one that dear reader Jane liked. We know it has to be the title of one of the stories, and four of the stories have titles that just don't work at all as a title for the overall collection. So, here are the three titles we can choose from. Let's hear your votes:
Sweet Dreams and Other Stories
The Book Scout and Other Stories
Adventures With My Father and Other Stories
I do admire you for your wit and good humour!
Thank you, DR Jose! I believe Artie's rice pudding can perform many miracles. I am also sorry that I missed you and DRJason.
I just had a bit of cola, and I think I will lie down for a bit and read the newspapers.
Last night I watched, for the first time, William Wyler's film of CARRIE with Jennifer Jones. It's a beautiful film, although I don't know why Laurence Olivier couldn't be seen gassing himself, as Hurstwood does in the book. It's implied, but the book's more brutal than this beautiful film.
The film reminded me a bit of the Olivier-Greer Garson PRIDE AND PREJUDICE: the characters are there, the story's similar to the book, but the tone is vastly different. CARRIE is much more romantic than the novel, but I liked Jennifer Jones much more than the heroine of Dreiser's novel.

:)The Book Scout and Other Stories;D
Adventures With My Father and Other Stories
Knowing I've only got one episode left, I went ahead and jumped to the special features on this final disc: the "making of" documentary, the gag reel, a featurette on the actual space ship set (two levels on two different soundstages - fascinating), and all of it celebrating a cult show whose reputation will be around a long, long time.
"I've Never Been Tommy" was sung (ans mimed) in that deligthful film "Jose - Queen of the Dessert".
I assume you can't sing TCB!
The Book Scout and Other Unseemly Stories?? ;)
"Sweet Dreams" reminds me of a John Bucchino song.
Speaking of songs, Dear Friend BK, I listened to Lisa Richards' album today. What a lovely song you wrote!
"Sweet Dreams" makes me think of The Eurythmics.
I also like "The Book Scout." That gets my vote.
the song on Lisa's album is When You're Waiting For Love, which was also in What If.
My friend Barbara Deutsch came by to pick something up and she ended up running lines with me - I feel a bit better now - I actually got through about seventy percent of it perfectly, and my problems are all in the same area, so I'm gonna just spend all day tomorrow concentrating in that area.
The Book Scout should be title...I'm not sure about the sub-title of "and other stories". I rather like George's suggestion of "and other unseemly stories"...that would be the perfect hook to me...Are the stories unseemly? They must be! BK wrote them!
HOME SWEET HOME!!
Oh, and dear reader Jane's choice was The Book Scout. I actually like and other unseemly stories, but a couple of the stories are seemly so I'm not sure it works.
Here are all the story titles, for those who are interested.
I'll See You In My Dreams (formerly Sweet Dreams)
Your Worst Nightmare
Maddie
How To Write A Dirty Book
Opening Out Of Town
The Book Scout
Adventures With My Father
I would rush to the bookstore to buy "How To Write A Dirty Book". But that's just me...
I like The Book Scout, too
HOME SWEET HOME!!
Well there's ONE title not in the running....
DR GINNY how was the PAR-TAY?
I'm on page 8 of my paper in case anyone is keeping track... just 4-5 more to go.
TPunk - Remember what I always say: If you're only required to do 12 pages, stop on page 12 even if you're in the middle of a thought. Always leave 'em wanting more. :) :) :)
My law school final paper had a 40-page minimum. I was going to be gosh-darned if I even gave them 41. (Of course, in those days, we were still typing on a typewriter so you couldn't expand the number of pages by reformatting.)
Hey, if The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man in the Moon Marigolds can win a Pulitzer, why not The Political Sociology of Third Parties in the United States Microform?
I'm on page 8 of my paper in case anyone is keeping track... just 4-5 more to go.
How wonderful to be an inspiration!
Trivia.. Dylan offered the song to the Everly Brothers who said they did not understand it. They recorded it some thirty years later. Why do I bother remembering such things?
Back in the late 60's a song called "LA LA LA" won the Eurovison song contest. It was the entry from Spain.
Lesley Gore recorded the song for the American market!
The "Hard Out Here for a Pimp" performers are also doing a cover of the Bob Dylan song. Thy're getting permission to change the title to "Lay, b**tchm****rf****era***s, lay."
:)
REALLY? :o
I thought you knew already! ;D
The question is: why do you bRother remembering?! :)Because everlyone has his weakness it seems.
And it won!
The Eurovision song for Israel once was
"L.a LUYAH!", no?
I'm on page 8 of my paper in case anyone is keeping track... just 4-5 more to go.
DR Cillaliz - is it snowing at your house yet? We are under a Winter Storm Watch for Monday evening into Tuesday morning. Fortunately, no one in my family will be on the road then. DH Richard should be home tomorrow afternoon, as should DN Laura. In fact, they'll probably pass on the highway somewhere in Indiana tomorrow. My cousins are planning to leave Tuesday for Pittsburgh to visit their dad, but will watch the conditions and adjust their plans if necessary.
Isn't "L.A.-lujah" the song that Steve and Eydie were trying to push here in the U.S.?
I remember the truly great Hebrew lyric
"Hallelujah,
Al mah she-ha-yah, yah
U-ma she-od lo ha-yah
Hallelujah"
becoming something silly like:
"Hallelujah
The bells will go ringing
And singing from dawn 'til night
Hallelujah!"
The Hebrew lyric was extraordinarily. I wonder which came first, the Hebrew or the English.
L.A. GROW NON TROPPO - that's the title of my volume on L.A. puns :)
Actually, has L.A. WITHIN AND WITHOUT already been used?
Shimrit Orr.
Whoop that trick, my bad. Steve and Eydie were singing "dinging from dawn 'til night" rather than "singing from dawn 'til night." Much better! :)
I remember the ovation on the Carson show, and everyone shouting "One more hallelujah!" Seriously.

Just for completeness, though, becuase I am adter all compulsive, here is the Hebrew lyric, so that member of the HHHW (the Hebrew-spaeking HHW) can sing along: :)
Gali Atari & 'Milk And Honey'
Written by Kobi Oshrat & Shimrit Or
Hallelujah la-'olam, Hallelujah yashiru kulam
Be-mila 'akhat bodeda, ha-lev male be-hamon toda
Ve-holem gam hu " 'eyze 'olam nifla "

Hallelujah 'al ma she-haya, u-ma she-'od lo haya - Hallelujah
Hallelujah 'al ma she-haya, u-ma she-'od lo haya - Hallelujah
Francois, have you ever tried to speak Bretonnais?
so that member of the HHHW (the Hebrew-spaeking HHW) can sing along: :)
Thank you DR Matt. No unseemly weather here.
Francois, just sing the song,
I'll follow along. :)

Tsk. No mention of "La La Peace Song," hit here for Al "Show and Tell" Wilson.
My (Siamese) cat has written his biography:
Meowmoires D'un Gai Chat!
Too American for this French Capter of the HHW Club! :P ;)
La La Chanson de la paix?
During a game today, the TV announcers got some amusing milage out of the fact that the two schools playing, Bradley and Pittsburgh, as abbreviated on their score graphic read like:
BRAD 27
PITT 20
Hope poor Jennifer Aniston wasn't watching.

Good Morning!
Well, Target was crazy, but not as crazy as the last time I went. And then we ventured into Brooklyn to get some dinner... And then we found ourselves back on the BQE heading back in Manhattan... Note to self: Print off the Mapquest directions next time. ;)
So, we ended up at some place near Columbia University, and had some good burgers.
And now, I'm just going through stuff on my desk, and I should be getting ready for bed shortly since I have rehearsal in the morning...
At 9, I switched over to THE SOPRANOS. Interesting second episode, and one that will undoubtedly be a serious contender for Edie Falco to submit for Emmy consideration.
James Gandolfini gets to experiment with a different accent, too, in this one.
DR Jane - Welcome Home.
DR Ben - Congrats to your ever-lovin' Ant!
*And I could always use a page-turner if you need something to do at night. ;)
Really, Matt? I think I was in my late 40s when I switched over to THE SOPRANOS.
Of course, I was 13, when I switched from being a soprano.
Trivia: The only Al Wilson hit here was "Do What You Gotta Do" in 1968 and it didn't crack the top 100 in the USA.
A friend in law school used to call Steve and Eydie by the nickname Steve 'n' Needy. Not that it was true, he just though it was funny.
Time to sing Hatikvah and go to bed. :)
The only Parano I'd like to Hugh is.......
Veddy interesting. I just read that O.C. "Little Green Apples" Smith did "La La Peace Song" as well, but Wilson beat him onto the charts. It did get airplay.. I did not hear "The Snake" until years later. (and I wasn't in or on grass!)
Oz missed out on "Show and Tell". Sad.
