Watching the 2000 "Great Gatsby" that was made for TV. Dreadful. Mira Sorvino is so irritating and Toby Stephens is creepy as Gatsby. Yet it's true to the book. For what that's worth.

The remainder of the rest of the visit to my parents consisted of lots of picture taking - including a staged birthday-cake-candle-blowing-out for my Mom - and one meltdown courtesy of my 5-year old niece. -And, in true 5-year old fashion, Emily was back to her usual smiling and giggling self after 5 minutes... Well, more like 10 minutes in this case.

Interesting day. I was quite behind, what with sleeping till almost noon. I went to storage and picked up the soundtrack reels for Nudie, then I decided to go back to the Hamburger Hamlet to have that great rotisserie chicken. Well, it was a mutant chicken this time around - totally gross, not cooked as well as it should have been and frankly it looked charbroiled rather than something rotisserie - I sent it back for some more heat, and rather than just giving me a new one, they really did set some sort of fire on it and it game back blackened and I had them take it away. Instead, I had a really gross omelet. Not what I needed on my first day next to normal (not quite to normal yet, tummy-wise). Then I came home and started writing for my personal project and finished what I needed to. I'm sure I'll finesse it later.

This morning I was the assisting minister and the Vixter was one of the communion assistants as we were putting on our vestments we smelled a funny smell -- sort of like plastic burning....

we opened the cupboard where the smell seemed to emanating from and grey smoke billowed out

It turned out that the water heater had a short in one if the wires and what we were smelling was the insulation burning -

we shut down the heater,opened the back doors to let the smoke out, had our electrician parishoner look at it and carried on

after all it was first communion Sunday for the fifth graders and we had two baptisms

When I woke up this morning and opened my eyes, above me in the window at the head of the bed I saw 4 spiders busily spinning webs. Must have just hatched as they were rather tiny, but alll had the shape of baby black widows. I don't think that is what they were, though.

They have all gone now, to there reward, but it was very un-nerving.

This is also my month for Altar Guild so I had to clean up and reset communion for the second service -- then at the second service I was running the opening program for the Sunday - but we were missing two teachers so I ended up with the 3, 4 & 5 year old class as well.

I walked into the house to be greeted by a very agitated husband --- the u bend under the kitchen sink had broken withe result that the dishwasher had drained allover teh kitchen floor and poured through the floor and through the ceiling of the basement - directly into the laundry room and dumping dirty water all over the clean clothes hanging up there
