Had a wonderful time at the graduation party for Noor Ismael last night. Noor and her family came from Baghdad, Iraq 3 years ago. Quite and upheaval for a teenage girl, but she graduated with straight A's and will be off to college in September to study Engineering!

I am so proud of her!!

Her brother, Ali, will graduate next year. He isn't doing quite as well in school, but is holding his own. He has moved from being water boy on the school's football team to playing guard (or something like that) and he knows that he has to keep his grades up if he is to continue playing, and he has really been working hard at it!

Ali came to America barely able to speak any English, and now he sounds like any American high schooler...it is amazing the progress he has made!

Good Morning!

I'm up, I'm up... And I don't have to be down at the Union Square Greenmarket at 10:00am. However, I may head down there later anyway. Alas, the weather forecast for today is filled with "passing showers", so.. We'll see.

DR MBarnum - Sounds like you had a great time last night. And Congrats to Noor!

Did they go out to a restaurant for the party? Or did Noor's parents prepare a homemade Iraqi feast?

Last night's performance of THE MUSIC MAN was fine....with a good audience.  It will be sad when it is over after tonight's performance.....but it will also be a bit of a relief.

For two nights in a row said Farmer's Wife pictured here two days ago, has taken my chair from its place and put it in front of the fan so she can sit DURING THE SHOW with the FARMER - in the flow of traffic.....THE FARMER hisseff sits in the chair that Harold Hill put there for himself for the few minutes during the show he gets to sit down....and now both of us have to stand up....most of the other extra chairs are taken up by the urchins....and they have taken SIX of our chairs for extra seating in the house!

And that's the backstage report from THE MUSIC MAN.....except that last night some of the watching mothers brought SUGAR treats and SUGAR drinks for the children.....I do not imagine ANY of them slept last night.....they were certainly on HIGH SPEED backstage!

DR JRand - You should just walk into her and her husband on purpose. Again. And again. And again. -It's not like she has a show to show up for tomorrow. ;)

-Or, at the very least, ask her to hold some props and costume pieces.

Good morning, all!  Last night I watched three more episodes of THE DUCHESS OF DUKE STREET and stayed up too late. It's very gray outside, so we're in for some rain, as DR Jose mentioned. I need to head down to Toyland, check on the office and use the scanner.

When I get back, I have to clean up this dump. So much for the glamorous life!

DR vixmom, what horrible news! I can only imagine the mess you have on your hands and I wish you and vixdad a successful and easy cleanup.

DR JRand60, I think you should push the old bitch off the chair and provide other inducements for her to never appear in another production. Your friend playing Harold Hill should do the same to the person who took his chair. Some fools should be encouraged to leave the theatre.

I have survived my stand up comedy DAY boo and according to the many people I paid to come, I did well.  ;)  Film at eleven or whenever we get around to editing it.

Congrats to Rob on surviving the test, to JR for surviving a Farmer other than Frances, and anyone else who has survived anything.  :)

I thought Liza was surprisingly hilarious on Arrested Development.  I actually like some of her stuff with the Pet Shop Boys.

I was working as a word processor (is there any stupider job title in existence?) when After Hours came out, so I've always had a soft spot in my heart for that film, specifically the scene where Griffin falls to his knees in the fetid alley and screams out, "I'm just a word processor--what do you want from me?"

Had a great time at Book of Mormon last night.

It really is a wonderful show and will win most of the musical Tonys I believe.

John G. I do tend to agree, the score is not great. I think it's one of the weaker links in the show but when the numbers are performed live on stage they have electricity and joy and great humor and come alive in a way they don't on the CD.

It really is a South Park influenced show and I've always felt that when South Park was working on all cylinders it was brilliant (since we don't have cable anymore I don't see the show, not that we watched it with any regularity anyway) but there is also an element of "kaa kaa, poo poo" in both South Park and this show, meaning "I'm saying kaa kaa poo poo because I can and you can't do anything about it, ha, ha, ha and I'm brilliantly funny when I do it." That happens more in the first act than the second and it's not a major focus. They have actually tried to write a real Broadway musical and, IMHO, they have succeeded. There are major pokes at the Mormons but there is also a respect for them and what they're trying to do. People keep saying there is heart in the show and I had to see it to believe it but it's true.

I'm not as fond of Josh Gad as everyone else seems to be. He's not bad but his character is the same kind of annoying unpleasant Barfee character (from Spelling Bee, he played Barfee when he replaced Dan Fogler in the original cast) and it wears thin. He has some great moments but thank God he's not the only leading character. I don't think I would have enjoyed the show as much. I also have to admit that I found his Playbill Online Q and A responses rather puerile and unpleasant. He seems to be channeling his character and if that's what he's like in real life, then so be it, but I don't need to know him.

I think Andrew Rannells is the real star. He's great. His second act number, I Believe, is a show stopper.

Nikki M. James is also wonderful and will probably win the Tony for Best Featured Actress in a Musical.

Hasa Diga Eebowai is a number in the first act. I won't translate it. You can google and get a translation if you want (if you haven't listened to the show already) I don't know if it even has a translation or if they just made up the phrase and the translation as part of the script but it's screamingly funny especially as sung and staged by the African tribe. If you think that was over the top, then wait until the second act when they do a play about Joseph Smith and the story of the Mormons. Wow!!!

I'm very glad I got to see the show, especially now with the pre-Tony energy. Luck was with us yesterday and I'm happy.

I'm seeing Death Takes a Holiday on Wednesday evening.

Errands run and time to head back uptown. It's too muggy at Toyland!

We have now copied 17 numbers of the 28 numbers for the recording of EILEEN! That's pretty good.

My friend Mark Alan Lee took some photos of the GLEE tour in Indy last night....some nice pics....

http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150189574082563.301880.519622562

Do you happen to know if Darren Criss got dragged off stage by a crazed fan there too like he was in DC? ::)

*Although, it's kind of of hard to see in that video. But I did love his response via Twitter to the whole situation:

"To the lady who pulled me off the stage and into the pit tonight: if I ever see you on a stage... keep your wits about ya. Love, Darren :) !"

"btw I'm lucky I didn't hit my head on the gate in front of this lady. Seriously close call tonight... Like, please don't kill me. I'm nice."
