Well, you've read the notes, the notes noodled, and now it is time for you to post until the noodling cows come home.

Last night on CNN I by pure accident in channel surfing caught Chris Cuomo's program, which was all about the NY Times story on Trump's taxes.  I enjoyed it so much that I stayed for part of Don Lemon's show.
Title: Re: ELBOW PASTA

So . . . in five words, I stayed up too late.
Title: Re: ELBOW PASTA
Post by: elmore3003 on September 29, 2020, 04:07:36 AM
One of the things brought up in last night's tax report is that many of Trump's enterprises are making no money, such as the golf courses and hotels, and this to my thinking is why he's been so hellbent on opening the economy, not for the good of the country but for himself.

I said to friends three years ago that he was probably up to his ass in debt to the Russian mob, and the reason he always looks so cowed around his personal close friend Putin is because every time he meets Putin, he says something like, you owe me and my friends big; and if you don't do what I want, you and the other Tramps will be feeding fish in the Hudson or Potomac.

Last night we watched the Nova program Dog Tales, which I also found as interesting on the evolution of a domesticated animal as Cat Tales.  Annabelle has a very shortsighted opinion of canines, but Thatch enjoyed the ones that performed tricks.  Stella slept.

T.O.D.

I love KEY LARGO.

Back when I was writing a monthly column for CORONET Magazine, I interviewed Claire Trevor at her Newport Beach home, and she talked a lot about KEY LARGO.

If you want to read the interview:

T.O.D. (2)

Along with Humphrey Bogart, Edward G. Robinson was/is one of my favorite actors, and KEY LARGO is my favorite Robinson picture.

I had the pleasure of meeting him at a party during the late 1960s at Edd Byrnes' house.

Unfortunately, I never met Lauren Bacall, but I did see her in WOMAN OF THE YEAR when it played Los Angeles.

I'm off to the church this morning. A summer of shaping the shrubs into spheres during the brutal heat, and then turning off the water to the landscape has resulted in dozens of dead shrubs. So I've begun the task of removing dead plants before the city cites us for having dead plants.

Good miracle vibes from MR BK.

I, too, enjoyed reading about the invention of elbow macaroni.  I love studying history on the inner web.

I also remember a pasta commercial years ago that had a gaggle of Italian ladies pulling spaghetti off of bushes like they were harvesting grapes.....which gave me pause.

BTW, that shirt was fine. I never would have thought anything about it.

When you first mentioned it, I’m afraid I expected something tight fitting, with wide, bold, horizontal stripes. Because about 25 years ago I had one that was exactly that, that I actually wore out of the house a few times, and it gives me nightmares to this day.

It’s Confession Time, boys and girls!

I have never seen KEY LARGO. Not even once. Clips from it, yes, but I have no idea what it’s even about. I do have the DVD, which I know should be upgraded to the Blu-ray. I have no doubt whatever that I’ll love it.

I also need to upgrade my copy of THE BIG SLEEP.

My finger is really no big deal.  Of concern is my stomach issue I have not been able to get under control.  I was not being a "drama queen" about it.

I am forced to reduce my food intake until I will practically be eating nothing. It is the only way to find out if my stomach pain is from one medical problem or potentially due to the deadly family curse.  I prefer to stop eating before having invasive medical test.

I am mentioning this as I tend to eat more while at the computer.  I eat less when reading.

I loved Upstairs Downstairs!  When I first joined Netflix, I watched the entire series.  Some episodes were not shown in the 1970s on US television, but I missed a lot of episodes in the 1970s because of community theatre, sex, drugs and rock'n'roll.

Do you ever feel like you’re trying your best but you’re still not getting anywhere? Welcome to the frustrating square between aggressive Mars in Aries and ambitious Saturn in Capricorn. When these two power players butt heads, it’s hard to get either one of them to budge, and you really feel that frustration building as you struggle to get anything accomplished today.

It’s enough that your own thinking might be an issue, but you also need to be on the lookout for authority figures (parents, teachers, or bosses) who have their own agendas and are ready to make their own power plays. As if you didn’t have enough to worry about, these people can throw obstacles in your way that you’ll really have a hard time getting over.

Don't give up - go on the offensive.

Well our theatre website is now just a shell of what it was.

Our host Go Daddy has let us know that our website is so old and obsolete that they can only host part of it.

All of our drop down menus and that information is gone.....including our history, our photo albums, our attendance history from 1962 that included links to all the programs for the shows.....

Our past seasons, our workshops. and our upcoming shows/audition/information pages....our board information and By-Laws pages....etc....  We had about seven drop down menus with several links on each.....

GONE....we are now nothing but a front page.......and I don't think we are archived anywhere.....so Goodbye, Old Friend.....

Yes.  It's actually easy.  The instructions of how far up to go were easy as well - until you start to get teary-eyed or sneeze - which is good because you can control it.  It's uncomfortable for about a second.  You can go as fast or as slow as you want.

The only celebrity I can recall running into an elevator was back in the 1990s and I was riding the elevator to the rehearsal studios at 56th and 8th Avenue with Alex Rybeck.  Robert de Niro - or was it Al Pacino? I forget now - was in it with some of his entourage.

First off, GoDaddy is horrible - NEVER host with them.  That said, THEY should have everything archived and they should send it to you.  That said, you'll remember when you lost I can't remember what - Francis Farmer stuff, maybe - I found it all for you archived because Google caches old stuff.  See if you can search and find it that way.

I'm up, I'm up - maybe eight hours of sleep.  Riddle me this: Why is it when you're overtired that you can't fall asleep.  I was in bed by two-thirty and couldn't fall asleep.  I got up at five-thirty for an hour and then went back to bed and finally fell asleep around seven and woke up at two, so I think with the hour I slept prior, that's eight.

In addition to the Dark Shadows episodes, we have been watching the original Upstairs, Downstairs serials. I remember my parents watching them religiously on PBS in the 1970's.

This weekend when I was taking (being given) DVDs from my mom's house, one of the sets was the complete original Upstairs, Downstairs series.  I remember my parents watching and really enjoying the show when it was being broadcast, so at some point, my sister and I bought them the DVDs.  My mom doesn't really watch DVDs anymore, so she said that I could take it...that and Monk.  She really liked that show, so I took that complete series, also.

Thank you all for the responses.  Yes MR BK you located my "lost" Allison Hayes info that had been someplace - I immediately moved it to BlogSpot where it has resided ever since - and it gets a healthy number of annual visits.

And I can tell by the wording of some other blogs and news stories that it is used by MANY folks as a basis of their own reporting.....including a RECENT six page story in CLASSIC IMAGES MAGAZINE which at least mentioned me at the very end in very small type.....even though many of the paragraphs were directly from the blog....with a word to two switched around or an extra word added......

Former DR MBARNUM alerted me to that happening!

While waiting in line outside (only two customers allowed inside at a time), an older man struck up a conversation. He'd worked in environmental science and was comparing that to the pandemic. We had an interesting conversation. I find that people are friendlier these days. I think it's a feeling of we're all in this together.

It's quite nice, actually, and I look forward to returning when I feel a bit more like myself. They're hosting a book club. I asked about book signings and was told they probably would do some once Covid is over.

It's www.thebookjewel.com

And because this feels like a Mercury retrograde 100 times over, the tire pressure indicator went off on the way home. I am such a klutz when it comes to inflating my tires and cannot get it right, so I swung by my mechanic's and someone very quickly and efficiently checked them. They were fine. I was told that in hot weather the tires swell a bit. I suspect that the internal gauge is a little too sensitive. I was relieved that they took care of it so quickly. (And no charge.) This is how one builds customer loyalty. And they have.

Today I get to go get a COVID test.

It's an unpleasant process, but mercifully brief.

Evidently, I have to administer it myself.  I watched a video sent by the people running the clinic, looks easy.  We'll see....

Is this the Q-tip through nostril up to your sinuses, DR Matthew?  I don't know if I could do it successfully or not.  I'd prefer a technician.

Yes.  It's actually easy.  The instructions of how far up to go were easy as well - until you start to get teary-eyed or sneeze - which is good because you can control it.  It's uncomfortable for about a second.  You can go as fast or as slow as you want.

This is good to hear. I've not had the test, but would prefer to do it myself when that time comes.

Some excitement here this evening.  When my DH last parked my car, he accidentally left the headlights on. I went down to move my car (the building's garage must be entirely cleared for some work being done tomorrow) and... you guessed it. No juice. The remote didn't even work to unlock the door.

AAA arrived fairly quickly got the car running. We drove it around for a half hour; hopefully this will restore the battery for the next time.

I heard that DR ELMORE.....

My dream consisted of you being in an elevator with YOU KNOW WHO and in the ensuing silence you said: "I enjoy your work very much."

And You Know Who replied:  "Why would I give a s#!t what you think?"

So at least you were spared that.....except in my dream.

The only celebrity I can recall running into an elevator was back in the 1990s and I was riding the elevator to the rehearsal studios at 56th and 8th Avenue with Alex Rybeck.  Robert de Niro - or was it Al Pacino? I forget now - was in it with some of his entourage.

The only celebrities I remember running into were on my first trip to NYC. I was trolling a couple of theaters for castoff Playbills. At the Marquis, I picked up on for Dance a Little Closer. I somehow got into an elevator with Alan Jay Lerner and others associated with the show. He asked me how I liked it. I mumbled something about a lot.

Ugh. I hope you have a good dentist. My previous dentist was excellent, but he had to retire suddenly about two years ago due to medical issues. The dentist I see now is the one who bought the practice and he seems very good, too. I think it's even more important to trust your dentist and have a good rapport with him/her than with many doctors. A lot of what they do I would classify as oral surgery, even though they don't call it that.

I'd never had those kind of chips before, and don't need to get them again. ::)

I have a very sore neck (probably sleeping in a bad position) and it's making other parts of my back sore.

Finishing up St. Matthew Passion - very enjoyable - and very long but so beautifully performed and in great sound.  This sinus stuff has to go away, seriously.

I just took some Tylenol as this headache from watching the debate is not going away.  It didn't help that we watched CNN until after 9:00.

Thanks for the doctor appointment vibes. The surgeon will tell me about what happened, what they found, and what may or may not be in store for the future. I am hoping prostate surgery is not required. If it is, I am afraid that will be more invasive and with a worse recovery period than the last surgery.

I wouldn't be sleeping either.  Wishing you the very best possible news.

Judging from the comments I have seen online, I am really happy with my decision not to watch one moment of the "debate."

Good decision.   I was texting with a friend who avoided it out of concern for her blood pressure.  It was still high just watching CNN after the debate.

My husband said they should have put them both in soundproof booths and turned off their microphones and lights so they couldn’t  interrupt or make faces during the other person’s time.

Oh my DR ELMORE - I must have had a very vivid dream in which you tell the story......I wonder who it really was???

Oh well.......

LOL!  I had friends who worked with her on Woman of the Year and really disliked her.  Until Raquel Welch took over, and they wanted Bacall back.

My mom and my Aunt Ruth adored her.

In addition to the Dark Shadows episodes, we have been watching the original Upstairs, Downstairs serials. I remember my parents watching them religiously on PBS in the 1970's.

I loved Upstairs Downstairs!  When I first joined Netflix, I watched the entire series.  Some episodes were not shown in the 1970s on US television, but I missed a lot of episodes in the 1970s because of community theatre, sex, drugs and rock'n'roll.

That explains what happened to the cast, but what is your excuse?
