Jennifer, not trying to pass the buck, but I would suggest that you go to Amazon.com and Search the Kindle Store for Kindle Support.  They really have everything you could possibly want to know about the Kindle and downloading of books.  I would not want to give you any false information.

I would tell you that you do not want to download a book to your computer and then to the Kindle.  I don't have 3G on mine, but I download just fine.  I believe (and here I go giving possible wrong info) every Kindle has Wireless, you just need to turn it on when you want to order a book, and turn it back off after the book downloads.  You can do that by clicking on the Menu button.

I've emailed support on amazon. They give very general answers instead of really answering you.

I've been reading various threads on kindle support. But there are so many. And i haven't found anything that really answers exactly what i want to know (mainly the stuff about canada). I'd rather just talk to an actual person who lives in canada vs reading threads some of which are years old (and the stuff might have changed).

DR Doug, I was quite amused by your TV story. Not very amusing for you, though! Exasperating, I should think. I hope you're able to get that new TV to behave--pronto!

That reminds me, the other night my cell phone rang at about 3:00 a.m.. The phone was in the other room so I didn't get up.  Then the phone started beeping that I had a voice message.  I stayed in bed while a hundred different bad scenarios flashed thru my head.  Finally I went and got the phone and brought it back to the bedroom.  After several prayers, I opened the phone.  And I found, not only a voice message but a text message wanting me to switch my car insurance!

So, DR Ginny, did you tell us what you are doing for your birthday? Did I read it and forget?

Did I sing the ballad yet?

DR Elmore - no big plans for this birthday.  We went to Lima for church and stopped at Culver's for lunch on the way back.  Because it's my birthday, I ordered my own French fries (instead of just eating a few of Richard's) and a turtle sundae all to myself.  We usually split one.

I think I would have preferred Drunk Duane.  I was so angry that I couldn't go back to sleep.

I'm up, finally, after a good night's sleep.  And yes, where is MBarnum?  Someone please write him and find out the deal.

DR TCB & I both mentioned he is working & taking less time on the computer for play.  Why not send him a birthday email.

Sorry, I do birthday wishes for dear readers here.  He's been coming to this site for many years.  Daily.  And I think a simple two-minute visit here to acknowledge everyone's wishes would have been nice.  It's so funny to me when people use this "he's working and taking less time to play on the computer" thing - it just doesn't compute to me.  I think it's been pretty obvious that I've been VERY busy doing any number of projects in the last three months - endless work - I find time to make a post or two and write the notes - every day.  It doesn't take me very long.

Some people aren't as focused as you are.  I know as I am one of those people.  He will be back when he finishes what he is working on.

Congrats on the free Kindle!  Mine was free, too, but I got mine with points from my debit card.  The 3G is cell phone technology...meaning, you can use it anywhere you could use a cell phone.  Mine doesn't have 3G, either.  I can download to the Kindle through a USB cable from my computer or use Wi-Fi.  They all should have that.  And you will use the keyboard.  You can search a document, there's a web browser (if you have Wi-Fi), things like that.

So without 3G just means i cannot download books anywhere (only where there is wifi?)

I'm curious when you send a book from amazon to your computer and then to your kindle, do you need to have an app on your computer for this?

Also, (and forgive how dumb these questions sound) I know to buy a book from amazon you have to have your kindle registered. But then i'm curious what the process is after that. For instance i have a giftcard in my account. Does the kindle book just go to your computer/kindle as soon as you buy it. Is there an option to choose my giftcard as payment (i think you have to set up a certain credit card as the payment card).

I'm trying to figure out if people in canada use their kindles differently (i.e., if it is cheaper to send it to your computer and then USB it to your kindle or just sending it straight to kindle).

Jennifer,   I believe (and here I go giving possible wrong info) every Kindle has Wireless, you just need to turn it on when you want to order a book, and turn it back off after the book downloads.  You can do that by clicking on the Menu button.

This reminded my the 99 cent book I ordered hasn't downloaded to my Nook.  It is possible I haven't left the Nook on long enough for the book to download-trying that now.

Thanks, DR KEVIN, for the detailed reports. What an interesting time you must be having! I, too, am amazed that Hugh Jackman raised $40,000 so quickly. But glad.

I guess it would make a great tax write-off.

Yes, for some high rollers.

I can't imagine any other reason you would pay $20,000.00 for Jackman's tee-shirt.

Especially a dirty one that you can't wash.

The question on whether the Huntsman in ONCE UPON A TIME is Snow White's kindly protector or Red Ridng Hood's savior has been solved in tonight's episode. Supposedly someone will die tonight as well. I hope it's not the Hunstman!

Thanks for the compliments on the photo.  We had our Christmas Concert today.  It was fun.  I'm one of those people who tends to make mistakes a lot in rehearsal but rises to the occasion in concert.  I only missed a couple notes, I'm getting better.   I'm really happy that they gave us our new music today even though the next rehearsal isn't until January 4.  The next concert is for the Children's Theater Group, so it's all theater songs.  Should be fun.
