TCB, do you write your posts in the Quick Reply box or do you click on the Reply button?  I never use the Quick Reply box, except I'm testing it with this post.

I click on the reply button, I never use quick reply.

Morning, all!

Happy B-day, Vixmom!

TOD: Born to Kvetch, by Michael Wex, which I'm now re-reading with notepad in hand. Between the corny humor, the linguistic minutia, and the whiplash transitions from scholarly to silly, I'm loving every page, but I'm still amazed that there's more than five people out there who could read this thing, let alone make it a best-seller...
I loved that book. I also listened to it on audio, so I could hear the correct pronunciation of the words.

I wonder do a lot of DRs read multiple books at the same time.  I never do.
Yes. I have three or four that I'm reading right now. All depends on mood and time frame.

The buses get worse and worse; today, after visiting the copyist, I waited at 96th and Broadway for a bus. By the tme I had walked to 82nd Street, no bus had yet come along. The only good thing about walking in the heat was running into Patricia Sinnott, Steve Sondheim's office manager when I first knew him. It's been 22 years since she left Steve for a brief employment with Sir andrew's Really Useful Company before ending up at Symphony space.  I hadn't seen her in about twelve years so it was a ncie surprise. I think next week we'll get together and visit.

Tell Patricia hello for me. She's an old friend of a friend and I've met her on a number of occasions. Even cooked for her a few times. Wonderful woman.

Odd day at the office. It started with the head honcho coming in and asking how much work we accomplished over the weekend. When I informed him that we didn't work over the weekend, he almost lost it. I wasn't the one who gave the staff the weekend off, but he was informed that no one was working. I'm just glad the rest of the staff was there to hear it and scratch their heads along with me.

I was just on youtube watching the blackface performer Tess Gardella (Aunt Jemima) performing her two big numbers from the 1929 SHOWBOAT performances. There's some mighty strange hoofing going on from about six young black ladies during "Hey Fella!" I think Gardella sings about one out of every ten notes Kern actually wrote. There are also some lyric changes from the published score and the dance music to the Ballyhoo has singing over it that's not indicated in the 1927 vocal score.

WHAT A DAY!!!  Oh my, we had so many people coming in, phone calls, all sorts of stuff...I haven't been this busy in ages and since we're both on our first day back from vacation it was a bit chaotic.  It was nice though and nothing really bothered me too much, just a bit more than I was ready for.

I agree with DR Cillaliz - WHAT A DAY!!!  We are finally safely ensconced in the Candy Cane Inn in Anaheim.  It's been a day.  We walked around Hollywood Blvd, went to Madame Tussaud's place, which was fun.  We went to Pinks for lunch, which was fun. The youngest is having a hard time being away from home and will break down at the drop of a hat.  Hopefully being at Disneyland will help keep him focused.  Here's hoping....

And DR Laura, after my hideously disgusting (in a good way) hot dog from Pinks, I'm still feeling fine.  Thanks always for caring!

I rarely read two books at a time, and then there is a reason I need to put the one book down to read another.  Just yesterday I put down NO MAN DIES ALONE to continue reading at a later date.  I know it will not be my book discussion book, it is long, and I own the book.  I will read the library books first beginning with RIVER OF DOUBT.

Yes, of course MattH would be welcome back - all of our past folks would be welcome back, sans any troublemakers.

Had a very nice meeting with Sam Bobrick and Ron Clark, and now I must jog, even though I don't really want to.  Then I shall watch the brand new Blu and Ray of Psycho - it came out in the UK (but all region) two months earlier than here.

I am so sorry DR edisaurus isn't with THE CLOSER any more. I miss asking her about things. I am enjoying tonight's episode very much.

It's been a good season on THE CLOSER.  I, too, wish DR Edi was still with the show

I had a big outing this afternoon - my first trip to the grocery store.  Richard drove, of course, and did all the bending and heavy lifting.  We didn't do a big shopping, but covered quite a bit of territory.  I came home and took a nap.

I need a new cell phone.  Had I just gone ahead and gotten a free one for renewing a two year contract I would only have a year left.

Last night while at the theater my phone suddenly decided to turn itself on.  You can imagine how embarrassed I was.  It it a slider phone and how it turned on with the lid down I have no idea.  ???

A little earlier today, I was perusing a website (I'm at work, so it's nothing inappropriate ;)) and a pop-up ad popped up.  I was just going to close it, but the picture looked familiar...it's the avatar of (new) DR Lowell!  Here's his picture:

and here's the ad (I removed the URL):
