I've been relaxing, the helper came by for invoices, and of course I've been listening to music. Whilst trying to find a good recording of Arthur Butterworth's first symphony, I found a disc that also included a symphony by a Brit woman named Ruth Gipps - I'm always very interested in female classical composers of the 20th century, so I searched her on You Tube and found four of her symphonies - I found one of those sites that converts you tube stuff to mp3 and got them into iTunes - and they're really great, and a couple are better than great. It was not easy for women composers of that era, and I'm always amazed by how good they are and how hard it must have been. Now I'm back to Japanese symphonic works - listening to Fumiyo Hayasaka right now - a wonderful composer and who did several classic film scores for Mr. Kurosawa including Seven Samurai and Rashomon.
