Why do directors think they need to do that?

Because they can...and they know that fans will pay for things like that. ::)

Showered and drove over to the theater - Burbank Blvd. shut down, cop cars everywhere.  I u-turned and went one block south and up the alley to our theater.  That was cordoned off, too, but I was able to park.  Someone from the theater came over to me and said they'd just cancelled the matinee - no one quite knew what was going on, but I could see cops everywhere with assault rifles - fifty cars and a block east was their barricade.  I can't find a damn thing on Google about it - where IS the news?  So, I came back home and will begin highlighting scripts shortly.  Making a batch of Wacky Noodles for food.  Too hot to be out and about.

That's too bad, BK.  Can you reschedule the cancelled performance?

But I think I liked the original version better.

I've never seen either version.

But we got through the show with most of the (fairly small but completely live) orchestra and some costumes.

Some costumes?

Not everyone's costumes are finished.  I only had a couple of jackets.  The director found a trench coat for me as "the Flasher who lives next door."  I've got some things here at home that I'm bringing tomorrow for consideration, and the guy who plays Wilbur says he has sweat pants and a suit that should fit me.

After the 4-hour rehearsal, I got something to eat downtown, then house managed (essentially just took the donations) for the reading of a new play.  It's a funny Krampus and anti-Christmas Christmas play.  One of the two authors lives in Lacey (about 10 miles from where I live) but the first production is going to be in Colorado.  She used to live there and was part of a theater company for several years.  It needs some work...mostly detail and a little tightening, but it's mostly there.  It was pretty funny. :)

After the reading, I went shopping to see what costume pieces I could get and I found a belt, a tie, and a hat.  Then went to Taco Del Mar for dinner, then I came home and looked through my own stuff for costume ideas.

I think I found some good things.  Hopefully, the director thinks so, too.

A couple of props that I'll bring tomorrow are a genuine working 1940s rotary phone (for the Turnblad household) and some brass skeleton keys for the guard that I play (as a sight gag instead of a realistic prop).

They do, but I think of her more as a costume coordinator.  Since there are so many people in the cast, we were asked to supply certain things ourselves.

Certainly.  It's really more period-ish because they don't have the budget to build the most historically accurate costumes, but they'll definitely evoke the time.

I don't know.  I didn't see all of them and I think at least one wasn't there today.

There's supposed to be an orchestra rehearsal (and sing-through for the actors who can be there) on Tuesday night.  I'm sure the whole band will be there then.

You don't have a dress rehearsal on Tuesday night?

Because we're in the theater normally occupied by the Olympia Film Society, and they had their schedule set before they asked us to perform there, we have to have our tech rehearsals today through Wednesday in the mornings.  We do get to perform in the evenings, plus the two matinees on the weekend.  The orchestra rehearsal Tuesday night will be somewhere else.
