I'm told the show was a little sloppy technically last night.  Really irritating and silly mistakes - and unfortunately a reviewer in attendance - hope we don't get called out for being amateur.  I hate when that stuff happens - it's inexcusable at this stage.  One actor, who literally has about three lines and some thumping to do, zoned out, didn't thump and screwed up an entire beat, which the actor onstage who reacts to it didn't handle all that well, according to that actor.  I may send out an e-mail shortly.  Also, since there was only half a house last night, I'm going to lay down the law that they must let me know the box-office reservation numbers for every performance - had I known it was light I could have filled it up - especially as a reviewer was there.  Not smart folks.

Today was so busy - I thought I'd be able to relax a bit, but nope.  Kay ran the act for me - with changes I didn't know about.  They're fine, but her redos of some of the patter were without point and not doing the job that patter needs to, and she's not really performing yet.  So, I rewound to the top once it was done, revised patter, put back patter that was more focused, added a few things, trimmed a few things and got the structure just right.  So, that will help for the next time through, which is Tuesday.

Then the work session for Levi.  The music is in such disarray it's nuts.  Plus in my revision, I've done a lot of routining how the songs fit with the dialogue.  We were supposed to have charts on everything by now, but the idiot that was given that job didn't do one damn thing - so we took it away from him and gave it to the usual guy - why that didn't happen in the first place is unknown to me.  But he couldn't do it by Monday - so the MD did as much as he could do.  I just want to be able to play through stuff, but you can't play the demos as they don't reflect at all what I've done to the show and score.  So, today we got through the long opening - and the MD will now put all that together, as it's very complicated.  We then worked our way through act one and I gave everything an arrangement and routine and I think I'll be able to sing through it roughly for the reading.  We'll do the same for act two on Monday prior to the reading.  There isn't that much new material in act two so it will be easier.

But the author of the book was so sloppy in typing that he consistently left out lyrics - so infuriating - I had no way of knowing that when I had the script retyped and which I then went through and cleaned everything up - amateur night, but we'll get it all fixed up.

I've moved on to The Hollywood Revue of 1929 with Joan Crawford singing and doing the Charleston. Some of it is very tired and dated. Some is charming.

Buster Keaton as well as Laurel and Hardy are expected to show up sooner or later.

There is a major power outage in the San Fernando Valley.   I am guessing Bruce is without power.

Back from this evening's performance - half a house, which, for me, is inexcusable.  They need to start reporting the box-office numbers to me the morning of the show, so I can do something about filling the house - these people.  It was a mostly good show, but sloppy, and I don't allow that, so notes are going out shortly.  Much too much was slightly off - consistency in this kind of play is everything.  And the murder was so "careful" that it was stupid.  I choreographed it to be violent-looking and shocking and tonight it was slow motion and terrible.  And the actor who drives it was completely unaware, which is a real problem.  So, I'm entrusting our stage manager to keep his eye on things because after tomorrow I probably won't see it for a couple of weeks.

Today, I installed new light fixtures in my sister's soon-to-be-(hopefully!)-sold house.

I started to swap out the kitchen faucet (I've done that kind of thing before), but the kind of kitchen sink that my sister has made it too difficult for me to do.

She has a plumber coming anyway, so she'll have that person install the new faucet.
