Back when I was doing plays at the Penthouse Theater (theatre-in-the-round) at the University of Washington, I missed a cue once; left the other actor standing alone on stage.

I was chatting with another actor in the dressing room. The sound was piped in. Suddenly, there was silence. (Oh, s**t!)

The audience could hear me running around the circle because the dressing room was on the opposite side of the theater from where I made my entrance.

Nothing like that ever happened to me again. I learned my lesson.

BTW: Also in that cast was Rod Whitaker (Trevanian), who would write THE EIGER SANCTION, which starred Clint Eastwood in the movie adaptation.

1. Sleeping through a fellow student's 1:00 pm recital for which I was the accompanist. Oops. I ran the three blocks to the school to find out if I was still alive. What's still amazing to me, to this day, is that it didn't matter. No one was in the least upset. Recital was rescheduled, and nobody gave a flying...well, anything. Some of those little recitals were really minor and informal affairs.

2. Years later, sleeping till 15 minutes before start time for Saturday morning auditions for a show. The theater was 30 minutes away. I threw on my clothes and didn't drive -- I flew low, arriving at least fifteen minutes late, only to find the others were just arriving, too, and no auditioners had shown up yet.

Well, at least I'm "lucky."

One would think there have been other near-disastrous or just plain embarrassing instances of being late. And I'm sure there have been, but they don't come to mind. It's the music-related stuff that stays with me.

I just blew off going to the library sale. This one hasn't been as good for me as it used to be -- which I'm saying in spite of my own slogan, "remember, no two are alike". But I need to spend the time doing more important things today. I'm happy with the decision, and I shall look forward to the next few of these, all of which are better, as a rule.

Saturday. I am having a respite from my pills and radiation! It seems very nice.

HOWEVER today I am taking Precious to the vet for her annual shots and checkup. She does NOT know yet....but she will soon. I have brushed her teeth and will give her a nice hair brushing in a bit.... She will know something is up when I put on my shoes....

I once picked up a friend for a rehearsal....it was being held downtown in Indy instead of at the theatre.... And of course there was NO PLACE to park.

We were there ten minutes late and called out in front of the whole company.....it was most humiliating....
