Just got turned down by the agent who said she felt it wasn't for her.  Fifteen to go!

DR Elmore, I read once that when seeking an agent you should look at books similar to the one you want to write.  Check the acknowledgments to see if those authors mention their agents and contact them.

I am doing that.  Do you think Jean Kerr's or James Thurber's agent might still be living?

I look forward to eventually seeing THE BAND’S VISIT myself. Friends have spoken highly of it, I loved the song “Omar Sharif” on the Tonys, and I just got the music for “Haled’s Song About Love” which I’m playing for someone at a little afternoon cabaret up at the Abbey a week from Sunday. This person had also considered “Answer Me” so I’d listened to that as well.

I hate it when Thursdays feel like Mondays! :P

I took Annabelle to the basement when I went down to drop off an empty carton of litter.  The exterminator and crew were there and all the usually locked doors were open.  She led me a merry chase while I chased her through too many dark rooms and the crew waited on me.  They were patient and kind; Annabelle was bad.

Bad would have been catching something down there ;)

I’m really enjoying listening to the first of the Poldark novels, Ross Poldark. There was a brief description of the marriage of two minor characters, but one detail stood out: The minister had black fingernails because, before the service, he had been busy planting his onions.

DR JOHN G and DR CHAS SMITH - you have both mistaken my level of interest.....but thanks for the info.

No. I think we understand it all too well. I can’t speak for ChasSmith, but I blame mine on a sadistic streak.

Larry, lots of publishers turned down HARRY POTTER. You can imagine how they've been kicking themselves. Hang in there.

I had a good day today. I felt better than I have been, had some gratifying financial news, and also had confirmation regarding my relatively new prescription sunglasses. I knew something was wrong with them from the start, said so, but was brushed off and told to give them a try.  I took them back, the optometrist said she could fix them with just an adjustment. I was skeptical, but they were much better. After a couple weeks, though, there was still something wrong. It took me a long time to realize what it was. Today I took them to the opticians I trust and that optician spotted the problem right away: the prescription is too high. Of course, they are now out of warranty.

I thought that when you had glasses made through your insurance you were getting the same quality, just at a lower price. I now know that that's not necessarily so.  I learned today that some labs use a generic progressive lens. I'd never heard of that. My clear progressive cost $$$, but there is nothing generic about them. No wonder I like them so much! I now must decide whether I want to pay $$$ for quality sunglasses.

Thanks, DR Jeanne!  I was happy the agent responded so quickly, but i'm aware one man's whimsy is another's poison.  You don't necessarily get a hole in one the first time at bat.

The author of the wonderful A Confederacy of Dunces was rejected so many times he killed himself.  Then the book won the Pulitzer Prize.
