Post by: bk on April 16, 2007, 12:01:24 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes were filled with both baloney and bologna, and now it is time for you to post until the the cows come home - they're eating bologna sandwiches right now, then they'll vomit on the ground, then they'll come home.

Good morning, all!  And a special one to the delightful Tomovoz.

I had a very unsettling dream about losing my wallet in a taxi going from the Church of the Ascension in Middletown, OH, to meet friends for lunch in Manhatttan before I had an audition for A CHORUS LINE!  There are so many aburdities in this brief precis I can't believe how unsettling the dream actually was.

I'm off to Toyland this morning, but before I go, I need to order a score from England and assemble an order for the Johann Strauss Critical Editions from Vienna.  Oy!

DR Singdaw, it's great to finally put a face to the posts.  I must say, they were not at all what I had imagined from your posts.  Now we have to get you into Manhattan for a meetin of the NY coven.  Perhaps in June, when DRs MusicGuy and MBarnum(shudder!) come to the City.

Six Feet Under - great theme.  Echoes of it in "Deadwood" - I've not checked the composer.

I also like the "Upstairs Downstairs" theme Larry and "The Dutchess of Duke Street".

Any particular role in "A Chorus Line" - surely not Shiela.

We are back from Long Island. We had a nice, relaxing weekend. Saturday was beautiful, even though it was a bit cool. Yesterday, though was another story. Walking back to the apartment from the subway we got wet. It was one of those rains where an umbrella doesn't help. Luckily I have a water resistant Lands End coat. It's still damp here but by Friday things should dry out.

One day in the late late 1960's when LASSIE was on a runaway motorboat with the pilot knocked out, I told myself:  "Myself," I said, "If that damned dog brings that boat into the dock, I am never watching this show again."  She did, and I haven't.  :D

DR ELMORE - the Dream-O-Matic 6000 says that your dream equates all of the drama surrounding your father's passing with a play and you have a starring role.  You are wishing that the "workshop" phase will end and you will get to NYC from all of these out-of-town tryouts.  You are also thinking that the ordeal is tough on your resources as well as your emotions.

Even though I didn't sleep much last night (feeling achy from a few hours of wet-vacuuming my water logged basement), I did manage to have one peculiar dream:  I was at a pool side tiki-style bar with two of my friends and I noticed that comedian/actor Jay Mohr was playing the piano.  My friends dared me to go up to him and talk to him, which I did.  And I found him to be warm and friendly and even a bit flirty, so I invited him to our table when he was done with his set.  When I got back to my friends, they were suddenly suspicious and disagreeable about Jay sitting with us and began discouraging me from getting too friendly with him.  I was getting more and more angry and began getting impatient for Jay to finish his set so I could prove that my friends were wrong.  He was playing some incredibly long John Tesh type of number and it was becoming irritating.  That's all I remember.

Just got this link from a friend. It's got lots and lots of video of Broadway performances. I think some of it may be taken from the recent Broadway Lost Treasures. Other segments may be bootlegs. There is a 13 minute sequence from the 1970 Tony Award Show where Katherine Hepburn does Always Mademoiselle with a long dialogue introduction. No matter what you think of Coco, I can't imagine any award show nowadays having a 13 minute segment from one show.

BK mentioned that he misses the curtain going up and down in the theater yesterday.

I miss it too, but can it be a cost cutting effect. They have to pay a teamster to press a button to raise and lower a curtain and that will add thousands a dollars to the budget that can be used elsewhere.

Am I correct about this?

Mitchell Lichtenstein is very good as Richie...but watching some clips on YouTube of some productions of the stage play is painful.

I find that a VERY powerful movie. I have it on laserdisc, and while Altman staged it basically as a play on film, the direction is still very interesting in so limited a space. It looks like it cost about $1.50 to film it.

Conically shaped, the saxophone is the only woodwind instrument made of brass. Although it is found only occasionally in the symphony orchestra, it is considered a member of the woodwind family because it has a single reed like the clarinet.

I guess that explains why so many pit part books have the wind players double on sax.

I was in an amateur production of TWELVE ANGRY MEN about four years ago, and the script was a little more elaborate than the movie screenplay. As Juror #4 (think E.G. Marshall), I had a lot more to do in the play than he did in the film. I really adored doing that play, one of the few I can really say that about. The give and take with the actors was really treasurable.

So I recently bought a DVD of BBC mini-series of THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS from the early seventies, which I remember very fondly.  But what I remember most about the series was that "Mohicans" was pronounced MOCK-ANS...and I remember Alistair Cooke explaining at the time on Masterpiece Theatre that that was the way the word was pronounced then.

However, I watched the firsts episode last night and Hawkeye pronounced it Mo-He-Cans, the traditional way we hear it.  Did they re-dubbed for American consumption after the success of the Daniel Day-Lewis movie?

Six Feet Under - great theme.  Echoes of it in "Deadwood" - I've not checked the composer.

Thomas Newman is composer of the "Six Feet Under" main title.

For "Deadwood", takes your choice (i.e., no main title credit given):

Series Original Music by
Shawn Thomas Odyssey   (12 episodes, 2006)
Michael Brook   (1 episode, 2004)

 Reinhold Heil   (unknown episodes)
Johnny Klimek   (unknown episodes)

What we got in Philly was nothing compared to the outlying areas.  I saw some cars this morning that looked like they drove in from a Colorado January.

The weather looks like it's letting up some here now.  The winds have lessened and it hasn't rained/snowed/slushed since about 9:00 am.  Hopefully, there won't be any more water to vacuum up in my basement tonight.

I feel it's a part of the same idiocy from directors who believe that no one listens to music unless there's a visual element so operatic  and theatrical overtures are now being staged.

Do a Radio City version - raise the pit on an elevator for the overture - let us see music in the making!

I have been watching some of ROBIN HOOD the series on BBC.  I had to stop for a really dumb dumb reason....a lot of the costumes are machine stitched.....  I understand budget and everything, but it's so obvious.   When I am doing a period show, I sometimes turn the clothes inside out, or keep the obvious modern sewing UNDER a hand-stitched garment.

This evening is the presentation of

The Helen Hayes Awards (http://www.helenhayes.org/)

in Washington, DC by the Washington Theatre Awards Society. In previous years our own Jose has been involved in productions which were nominated and/or received awards but since he's up in Westport right now I don't think he'll be in DC tonight.

I was planning on heading down this afternoon - especially since I assisted with Cabaret and She Loves Me.  Alas, with All About Us and the weather, I'm staying put.  -And I really just want a nice quiet night at home.  I have a friend who will be texting me the winners during the ceremony.  And I believe they have a web-stream of the awards now too.  In any case...

If anyone from Cabaret and She Loves Me - especially She Loves Me - I better get a mention in their acceptance speeches!  -However, I think Studio's production of Caroline, or Change will take most of the Musical honors.

It's not a cost-cutting effect.  The IATSE guys (and gals) are on the clock from their call time before the show till when the ghost lights gets put on stage.  Whatever happens in the meantime, whether it be raising a curtain or moving a piece of scenery is all covered by the same hourly rate.

A show curtain is purely a directorial and/or scenic designer choice nowadays.

I had a  very, very, very (that is three verys) busy weekend...Saturday I babysat my nephew John's kids Taylor (5) and Ben (2). I had a blast! The three of us made a birthday cake (Taylor decorated it all by herself) for my mom's 78th birthday.

Prior to making the cake I introduced the kids to ATTACK OF THE PUPPET PEOPLE! Taylor loved it! I was so proud.

We also watched several episodes of the 1960s TV show STINGRAY...both Ben and Taylor enjoyed it very much and after each episode ended they would jump up and ask to watch another episode. I believe we watched 4 or 5 episodes altogether.

Good Afternoon!

Well...  Four people showed up for the auditions I was hired to play for this morning.  They let me go at Noon.  I had lunch.  I came home.  I'm watching the news.  I'm reading and posting here on HHW.  That is all.

The Universe is telling you that you deserve an easy afternoon.  If I were in NYC today, I'd whisk you and dear Elmo off to Serendipity for something wonderful and warm and chocolate.  Maybe we could even get dear Ben to be E&T from the Foundation Werks, and come over and play also.  Wouldn't that be a delightful afternoon??

Then I could give you a big hug, and pat on your po-po!  It's therapeutic you know... and helps stave off sniffles and congestion. (My own remedy)

In Oz everyone's a tv star!

You got it Babe !!  The only requirement in the early days of TV in Oz, was that they could announce you as "being direct from Hollywood."  And I actually did live in Hollywood at that time..... 6126 Carlos Avenue, right in line, one block up, from the old Pix Theatre on Hollywood Blvd.

In fact, I think I even showed dear MB my old dwelling place on our little drive around H'wood.

This summary of last night's TAR is right on.

SPOILERS

SPOILERS

If i have to listen to one more minute of mirna talking i will scream.

I really do not get why she says "i want to play clean" (implying that yielding is not clean).  If you cancel someone's taxi that is not clean.  But if you are competitive and yield the team you feel is the biggest threat (and don't do it based on personal issues) why is that not clean????

http://www.televisionwithoutpity.com/articles/content/a12986/

Mirna and Schmirna--I cain't stand'em!  And that woman is a lawyer?  Can you imagine hearing her argue a case with that voice in a courtroom?  Oy!

I hate to say it, but I think the Blondies were a bit foolish to use the Yield on Eric and Danielle.  It never seems worthwhile to be the team that uses the first Yield in a race if you are ahead and pretty much confident that you will not be eliminated in that round.  Better to wait till the second Yield comes up--that's when it would be most effective and you won't have anyone gunning for you in the meantime.  Right now it looks like the Barbies are in the same uncomfortable position as they were in their first race with the other three teams ganging up against them.

Or are they?  The preview indicated that two teams will make a "suprising" deal to Yield another team.  Would it really be surprising if Eric and Danielle agreed with Danny and Oswald to stop the Blondies?  Or will something else go down?  I am intrigued!

The cost of dry-cleaning theatre curtains is probably a major cause in their decreased use.

After all, who wants to walk into a theater to stare at a dirty curtain?  You can walk into your bathroom and stare at your shower and save the cost of a ticket, if that's your thing.

I had a wonderfully fun time at KTIV!  Dave Winslow, the morning weather guy was very nice. He gave me a tour, introduced me to everyone and even took me to the backyard weather station.  He showed me the weather computer models etc.  I like that stuff, so it was very interesting.

I got there about 10:15 AM, after the tour etc we went to the Weather Center to go over what the weather involved.  Since it's a beautiful warm sunny day today, there wasn't a lot to report and with the Va Tech shootings, the weather on the east coast didn't even make the newscast.

So I asked if he does a script or anything and he said "This is the weather, it's all ad lib"  Then he told me that he'd do the majority of the weather and leave the forecast part to me. That had been their plan before he met me. I'm sure they don't know what they are getting so they make sure that they get the gist in before the newbie screws it up.

So, we did an intro with both of us and the newsguy, then Dave started the weather and his graphics got stuck. He pushed the button and nothing happened. Well, he had given me the wireless lapel mic and he had a corded lapel mic.  His computer is on the other side of the room, so he walked over to fix the graphics, doing the weather as he went.

The cord from his mic wound around this box thing (not the camera) that sits in the middle of the room, so he couldn't reach the computer. He finally got that free and then couldn't reach with the button thingy, so he had to drop that got to the computer and got it working just in time for me to do the forecast. Of course no one saw this, just that the graphics were stuck...and two of the towns didn't update on the computer, so they read about 20 degrees too cold.  I was glad that was his part of the forecast!

My part went great and I threw in the comment that there could be severe weather on Saturday so mom may want to unplug the tv, lol, I didn't even think I was on tv telling someone to unplug it!  Dave explained the comment. We went back to the three shot and I said Happy Birthday to my mom as we went to commercial.

At the end of the news we came back to the chatty 3 shot and I gave the forecast recap and it was over.

I had a blast! Dave said he'll make a DVD of the news for me tomorrow. He works from 3:00 AM until the end of the noon news, so he was ready to go home.

and the comment about unplugging has to do with my mother.  Everyone who knows her knows that she unplugs everything in the house any time that thuderstorms are forecast.  The  only 2 times we can think of that she forgot to unplug a tv. lightning hit close enough to blow out the tv.  Yup. These horrific winds that we've had swirling around since last night have downed trees all over town. Consequently, my cable is out now. I do have things on the DVR that recorded before the cable went out, but tonight I will be watching HDTV over-the-air rather than from the cable. I doubt they will get the neighborhood restored today.

Thankfully, I don't have any shows that overlap, so I can see everything tonight without missing any shows. Won't be so lucky tomorrow, however, if it isn't repaired.

I began my afternoon with THE TUDORS. A pretty good episode. I'm glad they're not rushing things along too quickly. In this one, Henry has just met Anne Bolyn, but is only now starting to obsess about her, and she's playing it very cagily. Mary has been betrothed to the Archduke Charles (the Pope). Obviously, this marriage didn't happen since Mary eventually married Prince Philip of Spain and the Archduke Charles was actually one of Elizabeth's suitors many years later.

Archduke Charles is the Holy Roman emperor, I thnk, not the Pope.  Her may not be the same Charles who sought marriage to Elizabeth.  Mary Tudor - aren't they calling her Margaret in this series? - married Charles Brandon against Henry's wishes, and I love the set-up for those two.  It's very Beatrice and Benedict.  I'm puzzled by the comment from Boleyn and Norfolk about bringing Brandon into their plot since he and Mary Tudor both hated Anne Boleyn.

I can't find any record of the character Pace who went to the Tower last night because of Wolsey

I just have to say...

I was listening to Guy Haines's New Guy In Town in the car on the way home from work today.  I don't know if it was because I was done with work, or that the sun was starting to break through the clouds, or if it was just the obvious pleasure he was taking in his performance, but "Cowboy Waltz" just filled me with complete...joy.  :)

Cowboy Waltz was the most difficult Haines song because, as most of you know, he likes to sing songs with a range of five notes.  Cowboy Waltz keeps getting higher and higher, but you have to keep it in a certain key or the low notes are too low.

We gave up on Robin Hood after 20 minutes - not because of the stitching.  It was just too dumbed down and it was it really likely that Robin had been at the Crusades for 5 years!
The new UK series premiered here on Sunday night.

Actually DR CILLA LIZ it is against FCC rules to give a personal greeting over the airwaves....a rule that used to be bypassed by entertainers like Carol Burnett by asking them what they wanted to say and then say:  "No, you can't do that....."

Prairie Home Companion does a whole segment of personal greetings and people often say "Hi mom" or whatever on shows like Letterman or Oprah.  Are you sure that rule hasn't changed since the 60s?

That has always bothered me....mainly because I was more often friends with folks either in the class ahead of me or behind me.   I've often considered crashing their reunions just to have some fun.

In my hometown the class does the dinner or whatever without others and then anyone is invited to join them for a later event.  Lots of people go to the reunions of other classes.

I've spent the day playing executor, and I've written letters, made phone calls, and sent emails.  It was nice today to throw a little blame into the Macbeths' yard, since they've turned out to be the glitch in our not receiving checks from my dad's union pension fund.

I guess the main reason that I feel so smug is that Macbeth's behavior since February has been to let me know what a poor executor I would be.  I think I'll sit down and laugh my ass off.

I keep using today twice in sentences today!

So what excuse do community theaters have for "no curtain."

DR Musicguy, I will take a look around and see what I have that you might like. There are some lobby cards (11x14s) from previous auctions that did not sell...some nifty ones from the 1940s...I will see if any are from musicals...of course who knows if something from from BLOODLUST!, WHY GIRLS LEAVE HOME, or ILLIGAL WIVES might appeal to you! LOL!

Thank you very much dear Mike.... and I'm not looking for any freebies!  And I like all types and categories of movies.  the "lobby card" size would be good for some of what I could use.  I'm afraid I don't know all of the correct names for the different types of movie posters and showcards that were produced.

Weren't there some that were a horizontal format.... kind of like a 14" wide by 10 or 11 inch high??  I have some wall spaces that could really use a horizontal type of graphic.

Anyway, please let me know what might be available and the price.  You can drop me a PM if you like.

And they will not say why the campus was NOT closed down between the first incident and the second incident....classes were meeting as usual...and it would seem that MANY students and faculty didn't even know a shooting had taken place in the dormitory.

Initially they believed that the "incident" was personal and that the killer had fled the area. Closing down a 26,000 student campus is not all that easy! The Administration did have a Website announcement saying that the dorm was in "lockdown" and the Cable news networks (at least fox) were carrying the story before the second shooting.

Joan has left the premises.  We didn't really do much because she didn't have everything she needed.  I did have a long and serious talk with her about her "comfort zone" and her mantra "I know what I do best" - those are two sentences which put the kibosh on creativity and discovering new things, and she does it constantly.   And most people bow to it and let her - not I.  So, she's realizing that she's going to be doing some completely new types of things and that she's got to make them work and commit to them - it's scary for her, but she'll ultimately be a good egg about it.  Doing her album was the same thing - I really had to be strong with her, and because of it, and because I knew what words to say to her to get those performances, we came out with something unusual for her - she didn't belt everything and didn't cry out loud on all the ballads.

Prairie Home Companion does a whole segment of personal greetings and people often say "Hi mom" or whatever on shows like Letterman or Oprah.  Are you sure that rule hasn't changed since the 60s?

We gave up on Robin Hood after 20 minutes - not because of the stitching.  It was just too dumbed down and it was it really likely that Robin had been at the Crusades for 5 years!
The new UK series premiered here on Sunday night.
(I prefer the old UK Richard Green version - and its theme song)

DR MATTH you are indeed correct....Ms Montgomery was Emmy-nominated for The Rusty Heller Story, but did not win.

That she NEVER won an Emmy is an outrage.  Besides her many nominations for BEWITCHED...her performances in THE LEGEND OF LIZZIE BORDON and A CASE OF RAPE among others, were outstanding.

And as strange as it may sound, I really do hope that the investigators find the reason(s) the shooter did what he did.  I, myself, don't really need to know, but I'm sure that information would help the friends and families of the victims during their grieving process, help provide some sense of closure.

I wonder? We will most likely uncover a delusional sociopath whose "reasons" will provide little justification to saner minds. We will probably also discover a person who, Hansel like, has going through life been dropping breadcrumb hints of a mind not right and a soul in darkness. Can there be any "closure" when a young life is snuffed out by the misguided actions of a deranged mind?

Meanwhile, the "talking heads" are all ready scouring the social landscape looking for their favorite whipping boy - Rap music, Video Games, violence in the playground (like dodge ball), Hollywood, single parents...

I just watched that for the first time on Sunday.  It was tense and in knots during it, and out of sorts for the rest of the day.  Which is not to say that it's not extremely well done, it's just that you have to decide when you're ready to go to that place.  And the extras with the families of those portrayed in the film are what really started me crying.

DR Ginny - Did I miss your report on The Lion King??

Nope, DR singdaw, I hadn't made one.  This was my 3rd time seeing it and DH Richard's second.  We'd first seen it on our DS Rob's first trip to NYC in 1999 and it was enchanting.  I saw it in Chicago 2 years ago with a librarian friend when we were there for a conference.  The occasion for seeing it yesterday was to take my 88-year-old mother as her Christmas present.  What surprised me was how much I'd forgotten, like the tears of the lionesses, the drying up of the water source, etc.  The adult Simba reminded me of DR Jose.

The walk to where I parked took us past the stage door and we observed Mustafa inviting a family "inside."  The kids' eyes got almost as big as mine and DR Cillaliz's when Danny Burstein invited us backstage after The Drowsy Chaperone (thanks to DR Elmore  :-*)

Of course, now DR Cilla has been on a Broadway stage during a show and she's done the weather forecast on TV....

Absorbing the horror today - and the conflicting, complicating, shifting stories that keep emerging - is the kind of thing that makes you want to get the news a week after the event. There is so much we don't yet know about the Virginia Tech massacre, so much that keeps changing, so much to be angry about, and to be terribly sad about, that catching up, let alone opining, about breaking news this confused and constantly changing seems simply inappropiate. I know it's my job but blogging breaking news like this seems inappropriate to me right now. I don't even know what to have an opinion about. They're having a vigil at VT tomorrow night and some have had impromptu ones already, as above. "Vigil" seems the right response right now. Praying and watching.

Only if the pit is required to wear blacks.  The pits for Avenue Q and A Chorus Line are in rooms under the stage, so there is no dress code.  In fact, the pit for A Chorus Line is a virtual party - I mean, they have to do something during Paul's monologue.

And since I was on the seventh floor during Lestat, I regularly had observers come in for the show.

I've read a couple of accounts of today's tragedy and it IS impossible to know what exactly went on - as per usual with the media, they will report anything just to have something to say, and if there's nothing, they'll make something up.  Nauseating.

Aside from the obvious horror and scope of it, I also find it nauseating that these insane people who do these things most always take the easiest and most cowardly route after snuffing out lives and causing unending tragedy for the families - they put a bullet in their head.  What a world we live in.

Might be nice if drunk drivers followed the example! They cause much more tragedy than all the school shooters!

So... Anyone here use Prilosec OTC?

I'm afraid my acid reflux has returned.  This happened the last time I had a sinus/throat thingy when all the meds just didn't sit well in my stomach.  -The menthol in the cough drops really don't help at all in that regard.  I was put on prescription stuff last time, but was just wondering if anyone had tried the OTC variety.

In the meantime, I'm switching to a bland diet for the next couple of days.  No chocolate.  :(

The girls came over, and we all went for a walk. We looked at daisy plants -- buds, flowers, wilty flowers, seedy flowers. Every walk is a nature walk with us.

And Wae-Ling excitedly showed me the caterpillars she found on my passionflower vine.

Nothing is more interesting than being in a collegiate atmosphere and having a tradgedy like this spring up mass debate among the upward bound youth of America, most of whom I found simply begin spewing out vauge and unsupported theories on federal issues such as gun control and religious morality and other highly controversial issues without looking at facts or supporting their ideas ( that have usually just been pounded into their head by parents and teachers, on both sides of every issue).  I am all for an open forum to hear people ideas in a school environment, however I dislike walking by a math class and hearing uncontrolled debate on social issues and seeing a teacher struggling to take back control of his/her class.

Just what I see

I'm taking that now.  And I took that last time too, but it appears this might something I might have to treat with a PPI like Prilosec.

I'm going to modify my diet over the next couple of days to see how much that helps or not.  Then I'll go see a doctor - or at least give my uncle a call.  He treated me last time, and he'll be able to tell me if I need more than just a phone consult.

I guess the CBS preview was slightly different. Because i saw people on the televisionwithoutpity forum asking the same question (who would be yielded).

I guess you guys heard something about a surprise or that 2 teams make a deal.

Anyhow the canadian preview did not say the part about the surprise (i don't think). But they did show which two teams are ganging up and against whom. It does not mean the yield was used. It could be a trick.

Don't read ahead if you don't want to know who the 2 teams are or who they want to yield.

I think most people figured the team that would be targeted would be the blondes. But i'm not sure if most would realize who the deal would be made between. Danielle and eric are major pissed. The preview shows them making a deal with danny and oswald.  I guess if you think about it the deal would have to be with them since they are the only team ahead of the blondes.  Now i'm not sure what the surprise is or how it was worded. The surprise could be that d&o don't use it. Or the surprise could be that they would make a deal.

The thing is i don't think it matters at all. The blondes must be hours ahead of both mirna and charla and D&E. Plus there is the 30 minute penalty. So even if they are yielded it shouldn't matter.

I do get why D&E are slightly annoyed. But i don't get why they are that mad. The only reason the BQs yielded them was because they thought they were the strongest team.

And why the heck mirna was mad who knows?  I wonder if she talks with those weird accents in court?

But in the meantime...

It's not a cost-cutting issue.  It's not a union (IATSE) issue.  It's a directorial and set designer issue.  Heck, there are some operas at The Met that start with that grand curtain out of sight.

I'm watching it too. My guess is this is like the student who went on a shooting spree at the University of Iowa years ago. That was over grades.

From what I've heard it sounds like one of the people in the dorm was a former girlfriend. He went directly to a specific building and classroom. Sounds like he lost his girl and either was doing poorly in his studies or just knew he had lost everything.  My guess is he will be someone who could legally possess firearms and not someone with a huge history. Rather he will be someone for whom failure of any sort is totally unacceptable and he failed both in love and in school.

I could be very wrong, but that's what it sounds like to me

TAR speculation on the yield for next week.

That was in our preview too and it was right after that they said there was a surprise. That's why I was guessing Smirna and Mirna. It would be a surprise

Did your preview show that the deal was between dani/eric and danny/oswald?  I'm confused now.

My preview showed that it was between them and then it showed the blondes.  It would not make sense for them to yield C/M. First off D/O have been friends with them. Second, C/M are bad. Third Danielle/eric dislike mirna but they are super mad at the blondes and think they are the biggest threat.

I know they will play this canadian preview again. I'll see if they say anything about a surprise on ours.

From what i read about the US preview i thought the surprise was that you guys did not know who would make the deal.

Did anyone see Dancing with the stars?

SPOILERS

I LOVED apolo and juliane. They did my favorite dance of the night. I loved the outfits, the choreography. Everything. So good.

I HATED clyde. I really hope he goes. I cannot stand him. He needs so much work and his schedule does not seem to allow him the time he would need to do well. I think he would need to practice 3 times as much as anyone else. And if he's not willing to do that he needs to go now. He is painful to watch.

I still don't like john, but thought he did quite well for his capabilties.  It really seemed like he tried this week.

I was very disapointed in billy ray. I like him and karina a lot. But he also needs to practice more than anyone else and his schedule was too full this week.  It sort of bugs me that some celebs have no outside commitments and some are crazy busy. But i really hope he can do better next week.

It seems so strange:

When we had a 3.2 earthquake in the Northwest that possibly broke a few windows and knocked a few cans of soup off some grocery shelves; they cancelled all regular programming to cover EXPERIENCE NORTHWEST: THE QUAKE!

Today, 33 people die at Virginia Tech; and we have DANCING WITH THE STARS, same as always.  I guess it isn't sweeps month.

Tax season 2007 is basically over for me, except for the end-of-season office party.

But just an alert:  The IRS has allowed an extra 2 days, until this Thursday, for people  who were affected by the Nor'easter.  So if you had legit delays in getting your return out by tomorrow caused by the Northeast storm,  there may still be time to file until Thursday.

MORE TAR.

Apparently the text for next week's preview is up. And it is slightly different from what i saw.  Although it sounds more interesting.

Don't read if you don't want to know.

SPOILER SPACE*

*

The text for the preview of next week's ep is up. It says a team is left in shock when they become victims of a deal between the BQs and a certain other team.

***

Okay so if this is true. But who would make the deal with them? And who would they want to yield? I'm assuming that danny and oswald are in the lead. And i don't think the BQs can yield again (is that right?)

And it would be morally against mirna's beliefs to yield anyone. Then i guess it would have to be a deal with danny and oswald. Unless danielle and eric pass mirna/charla. But how ironic would it be for danni/eric to team up with the blondes (unlikely!).

Well, I just checked the Helen Hayes Awards results (they're D.C. version of the The Tonys).  In a sort of surprise, Signature's production of Assassins snagged the most wins for a musical - but they were all in the Directing (Joe Calarco) and Supporting Actor and Actress categories.  Studio Theatre did claim the Best Musical trophy for Caroline, or Change as did their Caroline, Julian Nixon, for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Musical.

And wouldn't you know it, with all the multiple nominations that Arena Stage received for their productions of Three Mo' Divas, Cabaret and She Loves Me, they only walked away with one trophy tonight... for Cabaret... in the Outstanding Musical Direction category.  I BETTER HAVE BEEN THANKED IN THAT ACCEPTANCE SPEECH!!!!  :)

TOD:

I've given this one some thought during the day.   All-time favorite film themes include:

"Adventures in Paradise" -- Lionel Newman
"Space: Above and Beyond" -- Shirley Walker
"My Friend Flicka" -- Alfred Newman

...and on the vocal side....

Theme from "The Greatest American Hero"
Theme from "Family Ties"
Theme from "Mr Ed"
Theme from "Car 54, Where Are You?"

I still can't watch UNITED 93....I bought the DVD, but I can't bring myself to go through that day again.

It's well made and very moving. But it was VERY difficult to sit through even after all these years. All of that shock and disbelief is captured so well.

However, seeing how much incompetence was a part of that day is SO infuriating. So the movie ends up creating in the viewer this incredibly rich and varied series of emotions.

DR Jennifer - There's nothing you nor I nor anyone else can do until the episode airs next Sunday.  Heck, that episode was filmed weeks if not months ago.  Speculation can be fun, but it can also become a distraction.

-I'm just amazed that there aren't more "leaks" from former contestants from any reality-competition show.
Title: Re:AH, BALONEY

I think most people figured the team that would be targeted would be the blondes. But i'm not sure if most would realize who the deal would be made between. Danielle and eric are major pissed. The preview shows them making a deal with danny and oswald.  I guess if you think about it the deal would have to be with them since they are the only team ahead of the blondes.  Now i'm not sure what the surprise is or how it was worded. The surprise could be that d&o don't use it. Or the surprise could be that they would make a deal.

On the actual CBS.com Amazin' Race site, they actually say about next week's episode:

"One team is left in a state of shock when they become victims of a deal between the Beauty Queens and a certain other Team."

My guess is that the target team is Mirna and Schmirna and that the other team is--Eric and Danielle!  I think that they're pissed off at how Mirna pushed her way onto the second flight ahead of them, which hurt them far more in the competition than the Barbies' Yield of them did.

The winds have continued to blow making watching TV over-the-air very trying as the signal would play beautifully for 15 oir 20 minutes and then start cutting in and out. (Obviously my cable has not been repaired.)

And there was nothing I could do except wait for a commercial to try to find a different placement for the antenna that would generate a stronger, uninterrupted signal. Around 10:20 or so, I finally found "the sweet spot" and there were no more interruptions. But it had plagued me all night up until then. I suspect some clouds cleared away or something that suddenly made the reception so consistent.

Well, what a sad day we've had here in Virginia. I found out around noon what had happened, and immediately called my brother, who lives in Blacksburg and attends some engineering classes at VTech. I can't even begin to describe the relief I felt hearing the sound of his voice. He said that he was on campus, but heard the loudspeaker warnings to get away and stay down, and he just turned around and walked right back to his car.

In my graduating class, I would estimate that 40 people are at Tech this year, and as far as I know, everyone is fine- I feel like I would have heard by now if anyone were seriously hurt, or worse. It was a somber day at JMU today, though. We're only an hour and 45 minutes from Tech, and almost everyone has friends who attend. A few friends of mine had friends who were supposed to have been in the class that was murdered, but missed alarms or decided to skip today. A few friends of mine were in a classroom in the same hallway that everything happened in, and they're obviously shaken, and in need of a lot of help, but thank GOD they're lucky enough to be alive.

Most of the day was spent on the phone, frantically trying to get a hold of people we knew- there were so many calls going and coming from Blacksburg that most cell providers weren't functioning correctly.

I just...I can't even begin to fathom how something like this can happen to people who are so close and so much like me. And I also can't EVEN believe why (a) Dr. Phil is being called upon as an "expert" on CNN, and (b), why the media is SO QUICK to point fingers, and blame video games, and movies, and all of this crap. Why they can't just let these families deal with this in peace, without all of the speculation?

And why the HELL wasn't VTech put under security? If this happened at JMU, I can GUARANTEE there would be security EVERYWHERE, and classes would be cancelled until it was guaranteed that we were safe. I mean, I don't know everything, so I'm not going to make judgement calls, but it just doesn't seem right to me.

I think I'm going to bed. This has been a ridiculously long day.

FJL - over the next couple of days I will FINALLY get to the CD and notes, I promise.  I just had to clear my had for a couple of days.

I had a really sweet call from the owner of Sterling's, where Merissa did her show - he really loved the act and the song choices and the patter.  And I got a myspace friends request and e-mail from one of the other contestants congratulating me on the act - she, of course, has hired one of the other judges to direct her act, so it will cost her twice as much, and I will be very interested to see the result - although, said judge was at Merissa's show, and really liked it.  He's also using my very own Richard Berent as musical director - funny, huh?

Now that I have caught up on all of the posts I can't remember who inquired about the NY trip dates. But the answer is still up in the air. Originally my plan was the week of the 25th of June then the around the 6th of June. At this point I am just not certain. I must double check my work schedule again as I am in charge of the annual law clerk hiring for Supreme Court, Court of Appeals and Tax court and it all culminates in June  :P

Well, Dog Bosco is asleep on the bed and I will soon join him. He got his 2 annual "getting ready for summer' haircut and it is shorter then my hair! LOL!

But he did get a nifty scarf and the groomers all came over and told me what a wonderful customer he was...they wished that all of the dogs that came in were as easy to work with as Bosco was.

One gal gave me her card and asked to make sure that she got to groom him next year!

I was a pretty proud papa!  ;D

Welcome thirteen GUESTS.  Who are you people and why are you just sitting there like so much fish?

My guess is that some are from FilmScoreMonthly Messageboard...the General Discussion section of which has been down for quite a while this evening.

I think it may have something to do with an old thread having been hauled out of mothballs (a "1776" thread) by Howard L.  He e-mailed me and said he had resurrected it, added a very long post to it, pressed Enter and the lights went out!!!

Sounds like it's time for a "new production".

TOD:

I'd have to agree that the Six Feet Under theme is quite enjoyable and evocative.

And a theme that I used to enjoy as a youngster but now cannot abide is Gilligan's Island.

And The Brady Bunch is always good for a camp parody.

not a fan of the Gilligan theme either nor the Brady bunch one. However they do lend for doing parodies nicely
