Actually, the weather is beautiful here today. Sunny, highs will be in the 70s, so I will take full credit for the weather.  I do have to include a message for my mother, haven't quite figured out what I'm going to say.  I tried out a couple lines at her party and everyone laughed and laughed

This evening is the presentation of

The Helen Hayes Awards

in Washington, DC by the Washington Theatre Awards Society. In previous years our own Jose has been involved in productions which were nominated and/or received awards but since he's up in Westport right now I don't think he'll be in DC tonight.

On Anthony's first trip to Minneapolis we lugged the video camera downtown and he did re-create the hat throwing. He didn't get any notice at all. As if people do that all the time!

Now THAT I'd like to see!

I don't know the answer to the curtain raising question posed by Mr. Shayne but there was a curtain used in LoveMusik.

There is something special about watching a curtain go up.

Hey, do we know if this is an early AM thing, or what?  Hoping it can be captured and archived somewhere for all of HHW to view.

PS:  DR Ben, very glad to hear you and DH Anthony had a nice weekend getaway.

It's a noon thing. The safest time to have an amature come in and do a part of a news cast...at noon when no one is watching, they are all at work

Jay Mohr was playing the piano.

Now Jay Mohr IS a saxy man.  And I believe he does play the piano, too!

It would have exploded like my mother's first cake.

Is there a story here?    Hmmm....

Gotta get some work done before I go play. I'm just a titch apprehensive about doing this, but it will be fun once I get there

DR CillaLiz certainly has an exciting day to report the weather.  Her segment should be nice and long.

BK mentioned that he misses the curtain going up and down in the theater yesterday.

I miss it too, but can it be a cost cutting effect. They have to pay a teamster to press a button to raise and lower a curtain and that will add thousands a dollars to the budget that can be used elsewhere.

Am I correct about this?

I also recall reading that theatre owners have been discouraging curtain usage to prevent possible wear and tear on the curtain, itself.

DR Cillaliz, how much "prep" time do they give you in the studio?

DR JoseSPiano mentioned at dinner the other night that if he had not gotten the continuing gig with All About Us, he would definitely have gone down to DC for this event.

You do something to me,
something that simply mystifies me.
Tell me, why should it be
you have the power to hypnotize me?
Let me live 'neath your spell,
Do do that voodoo
that you do so well.
For you do something to me
that nobody else could do!

TOD:

HAVE GUN WILL TRAVEL
THE REBEL
CHEYENNE
MOST OF THE WARNERS DETECTIVE & COWBOY THEMES
WYATT EARP
ROBIN HOOD
ZORRO

There was also a syndicated show called, I think, LANCELOT, that had a catchy little tune at the beginning and a short-lived syndicated show called The Vikings that used to used the horn from the movie...a don't recall whether they used any of the original score.

TOD:

The Untouchables is hard to beat.  Allison Hayes guest stars in the episode that STARRED Elizabeth Montgomery, and in fact won her an Emmy!

Sad to say, "The Rusty Heller Story" didn't win Elizabeth an Emmy, only a nomination. In fact, Elizabeth never won an Emmy in her career, one of the great injustices of the Emmys.

BK, Julieanne is going up in a show this week; she'll call you when she's got a minute...but it may not be until after opening.

So many posts, I actually had to get through all of them in three sittings, due to pesky tax interruptions.  :)

Oh dear....I watched STREAMERS on one of the cable movie channels.

Mitchell Lichtenstein is very good as Richie...but watching some clips on YouTube of some productions of the stage play is painful.

I find that a VERY powerful movie. I have it on laserdisc, and while Altman staged it basically as a play on film, the direction is still very interesting in so limited a space. It looks like it cost about $1.50 to film it.

DtM - Did I miss it, or has it already been mentioned that the theme song to "Mama Malone" was written by Kander and Ebb

Good morning!

Beautiful, clear morning here but VERY windy. Really powerful gusts that are alarming in their suddenness. But should be in the 60s today so it's all good, especially after the really nasty weekend we just had.

Thanks, DR FJL.  No, although I met DeeGee and Dan through various singing gigs around the metro area, I don't think I've ever met up with them in NYC!

Quote
Conically shaped, the saxophone is the only woodwind instrument made of brass. Although it is found only occasionally in the symphony orchestra, it is considered a member of the woodwind family because it has a single reed like the clarinet.

I guess that explains why so many pit part books have the wind players double on sax.

Well, I've got quite a few hours of TV from last night to get to today: COLD CASE and WITHOUT A TRACE, THE SOPRANOS and ENTOURAGE, THE TUDORS, and RENO 911! Might take me two afternoons to get to it all,
