Off to do some chores.

Another vote for

Petticoat Junction

I have been watching some of ROBIN HOOD the series on BBC.  I had to stop for a really dumb dumb reason....a lot of the costumes are machine stitched.....  I understand budget and everything, but it's so obvious.   When I am doing a period show, I sometimes turn the clothes inside out, or keep the obvious modern sewing UNDER a hand-stitched garment.

I cannot understand, then, why DR MBarnum is not standing under your window and baying at the moon!

You don't understand...they have to have appeared on movies and television first.

Well, now we know why dear reader Jane has been errant and truant: She's been in LA attending a high school reunion, along with PennyO.  Do you think she CALLED?  Uh, no.  Do you think PennyO called?  Uh, no.  They are now on my D list.

I just got home...  And am watching the news...

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone down at Virginia Tech after the horrible and senseless events of this morning.   I know students there.  I know teachers there.  I hope and pray they were out of harm's way this morning.

I am weary of these allergies.  The overcast sky is giving way to sunshine - or trying to.

Well, not as much money as I was counting on. Those lobby card sets did not sell even for as much as I paid for them many years ago  :-\  I wonder if I should have split them up and sold the cards individually. Oh, well...you puts 'em up for bid and you takes your chances.

This evening is the presentation of

The Helen Hayes Awards

in Washington, DC by the Washington Theatre Awards Society. In previous years our own Jose has been involved in productions which were nominated and/or received awards but since he's up in Westport right now I don't think he'll be in DC tonight.

I was planning on heading down this afternoon - especially since I assisted with Cabaret and She Loves Me.  Alas, with All About Us and the weather, I'm staying put.  -And I really just want a nice quiet night at home.  I have a friend who will be texting me the winners during the ceremony.  And I believe they have a web-stream of the awards now too.  In any case...

If anyone from Cabaret and She Loves Me - especially She Loves Me - I better get a mention in their acceptance speeches!  -However, I think Studio's production of Caroline, or Change will take most of the Musical honors.

What horrible news. Let's hope that count of 21 dead is an overestimate. I will never understand how humans can do things like this.

BK mentioned that he misses the curtain going up and down in the theater yesterday.

I miss it too, but can it be a cost cutting effect. They have to pay a teamster to press a button to raise and lower a curtain and that will add thousands a dollars to the budget that can be used elsewhere.

Am I correct about this?

It's not a cost-cutting effect.  The IATSE guys (and gals) are on the clock from their call time before the show till when the ghost lights gets put on stage.  Whatever happens in the meantime, whether it be raising a curtain or moving a piece of scenery is all covered by the same hourly rate.

A show curtain is purely a directorial and/or scenic designer choice nowadays.

I had a  very, very, very (that is three verys) busy weekend...Saturday I babysat my nephew John's kids Taylor (5) and Ben (2). I had a blast! The three of us made a birthday cake (Taylor decorated it all by herself) for my mom's 78th birthday.

Prior to making the cake I introduced the kids to ATTACK OF THE PUPPET PEOPLE! Taylor loved it! I was so proud.

We also watched several episodes of the 1960s TV show STINGRAY...both Ben and Taylor enjoyed it very much and after each episode ended they would jump up and ask to watch another episode. I believe we watched 4 or 5 episodes altogether.

It is such a joy to pass along my love of kulture to a new generation! (My neice Katie, who is 25 years old now, also grew up watching and loving ATTACK OF THE PUPPET PEOPLE!!)

Mother's cake exploded in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And she'll never have that recipe again
Oh, no!

I wonder if "mother" followed instructions of mixing the batter and then folding in three eggs...literally...complete eggs w/shells.  Those would definitely explode.

...and yesterday we moved my mom from her studio apartment in the old folks home to her new 1 bedroom apartment (she had been on a list for a 1 bedroom for many, many months).

She likes the one bedroom apartment MUCH better! And it has a nice view of Mill Creek and the ducks that live there rather then the view of the parking lot and busy Center Street.

The eggs-in-basket are a nice hostess touch; sort of the equivalent of a mint on the pillow.   :)

I prefer to think of it as my contribution to pigeon control.

Now it is time for me to take Dog Bosco to see Teddy Melissa at the groomers so that he can get his hair cut in time for the coming summer weather.
