I don't watch American Idol. How did Sanjaya fare after he sang Besame Mucho? Did he get voted off?

He didn't even land in the bottom three.

Sebastian didn't win?

Alas, there was no category for "Outstanding Actor We'd Most Like To See Disrobed On or Off Stage". ;)

I never really disliked Heather Mills until this week when she made Jonathan shave his chest.  Boo!

I did watch the rerun of HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER because it had the hilarious renaming of Barney as "Swarley" that was a running gag through the show.

Oh... And Sebastian is featured in this month's Paper magazine.  It's their annual "Beautiful People" issue.

Well, what a sad day we've had here in Virginia. I found out around noon what had happened, and immediately called my brother, who lives in Blacksburg and attends some engineering classes at VTech. I can't even begin to describe the relief I felt hearing the sound of his voice. He said that he was on campus, but heard the loudspeaker warnings to get away and stay down, and he just turned around and walked right back to his car.

In my graduating class, I would estimate that 40 people are at Tech this year, and as far as I know, everyone is fine- I feel like I would have heard by now if anyone were seriously hurt, or worse. It was a somber day at JMU today, though. We're only an hour and 45 minutes from Tech, and almost everyone has friends who attend. A few friends of mine had friends who were supposed to have been in the class that was murdered, but missed alarms or decided to skip today. A few friends of mine were in a classroom in the same hallway that everything happened in, and they're obviously shaken, and in need of a lot of help, but thank GOD they're lucky enough to be alive.

Most of the day was spent on the phone, frantically trying to get a hold of people we knew- there were so many calls going and coming from Blacksburg that most cell providers weren't functioning correctly.

I just...I can't even begin to fathom how something like this can happen to people who are so close and so much like me. And I also can't EVEN believe why (a) Dr. Phil is being called upon as an "expert" on CNN, and (b), why the media is SO QUICK to point fingers, and blame video games, and movies, and all of this crap. Why they can't just let these families deal with this in peace, without all of the speculation?

And why the HELL wasn't VTech put under security? If this happened at JMU, I can GUARANTEE there would be security EVERYWHERE, and classes would be cancelled until it was guaranteed that we were safe. I mean, I don't know everything, so I'm not going to make judgement calls, but it just doesn't seem right to me.

I think I'm going to bed. This has been a ridiculously long day.

The winds have continued to blow making watching TV over-the-air very trying as the signal would play beautifully for 15 oir 20 minutes and then start cutting in and out. (Obviously my cable has not been repaired.)

And there was nothing I could do except wait for a commercial to try to find a different placement for the antenna that would generate a stronger, uninterrupted signal. Around 10:20 or so, I finally found "the sweet spot" and there were no more interruptions. But it had plagued me all night up until then. I suspect some clouds cleared away or something that suddenly made the reception so consistent.

Oh Matt, there have been many nights where it has taken me longer than that to find the "sweet spot".

In response to my saying sanjaya was still around:Why would you be happy the worst singer is still around?

It drives me crazy that people are voting for him.

Because, as you all know, I adore tacky things -- leopard spots, casino carpet, etc.

And I have never watched nor particiated in voting in any reality show.

Next was a pretty funny episode of OLD CHRISTINE. I think her brother steals every scene he's in. The "Meany Moms" have gotten dastardly lately. I really almost hate seeing them because of their cruelty.

What is Paper Magazine?

I just added a link to the article.  As for what Paper magazine is, I've paged through a couple of issues, and I'm still not sure.  Lots of pretty pictures alternating with pretty advertisements.

'24' had a seesaw episode

with Jack securing approval from the President to undertake an almost-certain suicide mission. Then, the Preisdent's health collapsing leading the Vice-President to need to take over and then canceling Jack's permission. So, of course, he turned rogue agent to carry out his plan.

CSI: MIAMI had the death of a movie star making a film on location in Miami. It also featured a REALLY negative look at posh rehab places that are more for publicity for their famous clients than for any actual help they offer.

Before prime time started, I did have time for a couple of DVDs.

I finished the commentary on MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS which I had started yesterday. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Then, I watched about 70 minutes of ON MOONLIGHT BAY. Overall, it looks like a fine transfer, but there are a few places where there are definite registration problems with the color. Much of it looks very nice, however, though maybe just a tad less colorful than MY DREAM IS YOURS.

I happy about this because it underlines what this show is really about--that not only that you don't need hard work and/or experience to become a famous singing "idol", you don't need to be particularly talented either.  All you need is the votes.  That's all that counts.

I forget which network I was watching, but there was one "impromptu" on-the-scene reporter who answered after being asked, "How do you think the surviving classmates are doing right now?"  -Well, they all left campus today in good condition.  They'll just have some emotional scars to deal with.

WHAT THE F*CK KIND OF RESPONSE IS THAT?!?!?!!?!?!?

*Alas, it was obvious to me that they "I-reporter" was obviously still in shock too.  :-\

But, of course.  I do like their storefront on 43rd - just a short walk from Chez FJL - but their kiosk at Grand Central is nice too.  And provides you with a dessert option after lunching somewhere else in the Dining Concourse.  Or at least a grab-and-go place if you happen to be hopping on a Metro North train. :)

And that Sour Cream Apple Walnut Pie really is sooooooooo good.

And their seasonal pies are quite scrumptious too.  Place those Pumpkin Pie orders early!
