DR Jose - That would happen to work out great for those of us who are celebrating the New Year during the day (meaning me :) but maybe there are others???) if dinner on Oct. 5th didn't start until 7:30 or so. That would even allow me an added bonus of having Kosher New Year's Days and then reverting to my heathen non-kosher ways once the actual holy day is over. Raising the question of whether you get inscribed in the good book if you know while you're praying for forgiveness of your sins that you're going to go back to sinning right aftre Rosh Hashanah is over, but that's an issue that we could post and riposte about forever.
DR vixmom - FEEL BETTER VIBES coming your way.

Can you guess which organization this is?
Give up yet? . . . Scroll down, citizen!
It's the 535 members of the United States Congress.
The same group of Idiots that crank out hundreds of new laws each year designed to keep the rest of us in line.
I just received this from a friend, can anyone verify the information in this? Woody?
However, the one thing I do know is that the tour will not start until after 9:00. I had these grand illusions of starting around 7:30 or 8:00...
I just received this from a friend, can anyone verify the information in this? Woody? It's seven-twenty in the morning. Do you know where your Congressman is?
Oh behalf of those of us travelingin from Long Island, I thank you :D
TOD: I had a boyfriend when I was a teenager who name was ( I kid you not)Boy, when I threadjack, I really pull a doozy! ;D Sorry, BK!

Sorry to hear you're under the weather, VixMom. I just spent the last couple of days feeling the same way, and am SO glad I'm not there right now.
Feel better soon!
Jose: I think ending the evening at Magnolia sounds FABOO. In fact, I think ending THIS evening at Magnolia sounds faboo, too...I really want some of that banana pudding!
...And I just got the official offer for Lestat from the contractor!
:D
*And I'm also now one of the few who've actually spoken directly with the somewhat "elusive" John Miller! (It's an AFM thing. ;))
Randy book?
The first one that comes to mind is VALLEY OF THE DOLLS. When it came out, it was pretty eye-opening, at least for me who was a teen and knew so very little about all the manipulative sexual and business deals that go on in show biz.
My chore of the day is to get the oil changed on all the vehicles.
Yes, DRVIXMOM, we open tonight and we shall see what we shall see....as will the audience.
It is what it is.
Does anyone have any light to shed on the alleged affair between Jacqueline Susann and Ethel Merman? I just heard about this rumor for the first time this morning.
I got a huge desire to watch '1776' today. Once I finish NIGHT OF THE HUNTER, I will.
That is, unless the GARBO and THE STING DVDs find their way to my house today (as they're supposed to). If they do, I'll put in THE STING.
Iam sure that your magnifiecient performance will more than compensate for what the others are lacking....
(Are you going to add a weight belt to the wardrobe requirements for your less-than-muscular co-star?) ;D ;D
Well....I love it! It's one of my favorite Stanwyck films.

Hmm.... I'll call you later.
:)
Didn't I read that CHRISTMAS IN CONNECTICUT is coming out in a box with a couple of other Christmas-themed films - the 1938 MGM A CHRISTMAS CAROL (with Reginald Owen) and something else?
DtM - a good book if you are interested in the subject, and at EBAY right now for $2.50 with no bids. ;D

Crap! I just read that Barrymore's is closing. Evidently, Disney wants to build a hotel on that block and everyone sold out for the big bucks. *Sigh...*NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! When?
Crap! I just read that Barrymore's is closing. Evidently, Disney wants to build a hotel on that block and everyone sold out for the big bucks. *Sigh...*
I don't know.
Did you?
:D
Re: A Christmas-themed boxed set that might include "Christmas in Connecticut."
I just visited Amzon.com....usually, Amazon lists boxed sets both as a set and as individual titles.
Nothing but this one title and the TV movie version popped up when I did a search.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! When?
One of my co-workers is having a bad day.
First, he was scheduled to have double-bypass surgery on Sept. 7. Last week, he got a call saying the surgeon would be out of town this week and that he was being rescheduled for Sept. 14.
(Wouldn't you just love THAT happening to you???).
This week, he has been calling to confirm surgery and to get details as to where to go and what he needs to do, etc.
Yesterday, he learned they did not have him scheduled.
Today, all hell has broken loose. He got a call at home last night telling him the surgery certainly IS scheduled and that he should call the surgeon's office today to have his questions answered.
The surgeon has employed a staff of morons. My co-worker had to spell his last name THREE TIMES for whatever lump was on the other end of the phone. Then SHE could not find him scheduled for anything!!!
She then began talking to someone in the office about "this guy on the phone who thinks he's gonna have heart surgery next week but he's not on the computer" and she did not cover the mouthpiece. When she began talking to my co-worker he told her he'd call her back. He slammed down the phone and cursed for five minutes or so.
He made another call and confirmed that he was supposed to get information from this office.
He called back, and to his suprise they had "found him" and he had been scheduled "all along" ("tee-hee," I guess).
He then got louder and louder and louder as he tried to get information about reporting time, where to enter, where to check in, when to check in and then finally exploded:
"Tell that son-of-a-bitch that any surgeon who would employ you to deal with patients who are riding on emotional rollercoasters is not to be trusted to cut open anything, much less a human heart!"
(There were a few "f" words thrown in there, but I think you all get the gist).
And I don't blame him. Ineptitude has no place in a heart surgeon's office...especially when it comes to customer service.
Crap! I just read that Barrymore's is closing. Evidently, Disney wants to build a hotel on that block and everyone sold out for the big bucks. *Sigh...*
DR MattH, I have 2 VCRs and i find this one usually is okay as long as I just keep the same tape in it. I just heard it was easy to get the gummy stuff off. Only problem is I didn't know where to look.
As I said, put in a tape with the top off and press play, and once the tape enters the chamber, you'll see the wheel that comes down to press the front (shiny part of the tape). That's the wheel you're looking for. You should use a bad tape, of course, in case it gets jammed. Then take the tape out and use a q-tip to clean it. Don't know if it will do the trick, but you can at least try that.
DR Jennifer: There are tape-cleaning devices...just like VHS tapes, only you put a drop or two of solution on them, then insert them into the player. The solution and the "tape" go through a cycle that applies the solution to the rollers and then cleans/dries them.
I always find these in local shops where VHS tapes and cassette tapes are sold.
You can also use Q-Tip swabs and isopropyl alcohol to do this yourself if you trust yourself to take the top off the player/recorder.
Sometimes, though, tape-chewing trends have to do with adjustments that need to be made...or replacemens.
I'm with Dr MattH....it's far better to buy a new player than risk losing the irreplaceable.
I'm not sure i will get another vcr, since i already have one. Maybe a dvd recorder. But i would still like to try to see what happens if i clean the goop off this one. We shall see. Thanks.

You're welcome.
*Of course, if we end up stopping in Little India, then DR MBarnum will, well... He'll be very happy.
;D
DR Jen, you might want to run over to Radio Shack and buy a VCR head cleaner. The only thing about that though is that there are wet cleaners and dry cleaners and I remember that one is very good and that the other could potentially damage the tape heads and I can't remember which did which.
My current VCR has self-cleaning tape heads.
Is the cleaning tape with the drops a head cleaner?
It was one of the last places to go in Midtown for a nice, relatively inexpensive and relaxed meal before the theatre. I'm going there tonight as a matter of fact before we see Pillowman. I will ask (they may even have a sign in the window) and post what I find.
Vixmom - I'm having a little sinus thing going on today, too. It's not NEARLY as bad as what yours sounds like, though. Sounds to me like you have a sinus infection, of which I am all too familiar.
Hope you feel better soon!!
next you're going o tell me they're closing FAO Schwartz or The Russian Tearoom!
Why don't you come up to my place? I don't have as many toys as FAO Schwartz but the ones I got are doozies!

Does anyone have any light to shed on the alleged affair between Jacqueline Susann and Ethel Merman? I just heard about this rumor for the first time this morning.
DR elmore - If we end up in your neck of the woods for dinner, should we give you a call?
DRDan(the Man), there have been references all over the place to Merman's being gay because she was such a butch broad, but they are false. I knew Merman's press agent Phillip Bloom, who was 74 when he died in 1988, and he swore there was no truth to the rumors. Louis Botto, editor of PLAYBILL swore the same. I once had a great lunch with Louis and press agent Robert Ullman, who had me falling off my chair with laughter from their Merman stories.
Yes, indeed. Congratulations have already been offered to DR Jose for his possible LESTAT job, but now that it's a fact, I am SO very happy for him.
DR Jose, how long do these contracts run? Run of the play? 6 months? One year? Is there a trial period? Curious minds want to know.
I'm simply teeming with excitement about tonight's festivities, Jose. Hopefully good food, hopefully a good production of a show that I absolutely DO NOT KNOW (who knew?), and guaranteed good company. What more could a girl ask for? Thanks for the invite!
I never has seen Artie's...or La Cocina...but I trust DRs Ben and Jose's judgements on dining establishments. I'm up for whatever!
Hmm.. Well, maybe we'll do Artie's or La Cocina tonight then since that will put us just a few blocks away from the Park. Now there's also an Ollie's up in the neighborhood. Beard Papa is a couple of blocks down. Edgar's Cafe, Popover, Sarabeth's, Good Enough To Eat, etc., etc. I'm sure we'll find something to eat.
:)
I've been to Good Enough To Eat. They live up to their name! I've heard of Sarabeth's and Popover, but Edgar's Cafe eludes me. Lead on, food guru...lead on.
Or we could just grab a slice of cake and/or pastry at Cafe Lalo and call it dinner!
If we're even going to consider the banana pudding at Magnolia, I'm going to have to veto this suggestion. I'm fat enough as it is! ;)
Matt H. (opr anyone else for that matter) do you have a DVD recorder?
I just received this from a friend, can anyone verify the information in this? Woody?
Oh behalf of those of us travelingin from Long Island, I thank you :D
DR Jennifer - First question: You've kept the same tape in that VCR? For how long? -Even tapes need to "breathe" every now and then.
Second question: How old is your VCR? If it's more than five years old, you'd be better off buying a new one. Alas, it's hard to find a cheap VCR nowadays since the advent of DVD players - cheap DVD players - but you may be able to score a deal. I've seen some DVD/VCR combos under the $100 price point lately.
And aren't you glad Ted Kennedy is a Senator, instead of a Congressman? Just think of how those numbers would grow!!!)
Hmm... Well, I was going to do some laundry this afternoon... Hmm...
;)
Why don't you come up to my place? I don't have as many toys as FAO Schwartz but the ones I got are doozies!

And what has precluded darling Rodzinski and TPunk from logging on from HOME. No, this will NOT do, and a bitch-slapping will be coming if they do not post this very evening.
Actually, my original plan was to have a later dinner, anyway. So...
;)
I was just waiting to see if anyone was planning on seeing a show that night. Once I get the headcount and itineraries, then I will finalize the plans. *And Joe Allen will only take reservations a week out as it is.

I would, of course, have to list the FINEST randy movie ever made - The First Nudie Musical.

It loads very slowly on AOL, but on safari it takes two seconds. Go know.
George is our first Rewind order! So, I definitely know I have to order one copy. Look forward to comments about the site - I think she did a great job on it. And let us know what you think of the excerpt.
Thanks, Cillaliz!
Remember, the first fifty preorders get a little sparkling something extra.
My chore of the day is to get the oil changed on all the vehicles.
............all the vehicles? In Arizona?
I will be doing Little India earlier that week, hopefully, so if we go through there I should have it all out of my system! LOL!
Considering my reaction to Indian cuisine, that sentence paints an interesting picture.

Experiment department:
In celebration of the new Tigard Pops season kicking off tonight, here is a little general MIDI file of my original "Autumn Lullaby", which will be performed as a wordless vocal (think Anuna or Clannad, and no, those are not rare communicable diseases ;) ). Hopefully this will be a stress relieving 5 minute soundtrack for some of you, though its conversion to general MIDI leaves something to be desired (especially the percussion tracks). This also serves as a cautionary tale as to what happens when a 10 year old listens to too much Paul Mauriat. :o Click here:

In today's mail: "The Sting" and "To Kill A Mockingbird" (2-CD new edition).
Because Mr. Mark Bakalor is a very busy boy - I don't know that it will get listed here at all. Did you read the excerpt, elmore? Did any of it seem familiar?
And speaking of randy movies (and books, too), the movie based on Rupert Holmes' book "Where the Truth Lies" has gotten an NC-17 rating!
DR MATTH - I saw only a few minutes of the GARBO special and the silent screen test footage shot for Walter Wanger in 1949 is very interesting. I think it was shot by William Daniels, but the slates are quick and I only saw a few of them. She seems to be in good spirits....and I didn't see any color shots, but they may have shown them first. Her makeup artist didn't do her any favors, but then again, these were never meant to be seen by the general public. It was very very interesting, and I will be interested in your reaction to them. A few years older, but very candid and relaxed.....
DR DtM - Frances has to have a chapter in your book!
Back from the Delacorte where DR Jose and I saw TWO GENTLEMEN OF VERONA. What a fun time we had. The cast is fantastic (Norm Lewis TORE THAT SHOW UP) and the band, as DR Jose will attest, was hot hot hot.
Dinner with DR Elmore was scandalous. A good time was had by all.
Thanks again, Jose, for inviting me tonight!!
We had a very nice dinner, and the conversation was indeed illuminating and scandalous at times.
DR elmore - Love that "composer" story you told. You should share it with everyone!
;D
Gott im himmel! What composer story did I tell this time? Did I mention names?
When in ....
;)
...And I just checked tomorrow's weather forecast... There's no sign of rain tomorrow now... Hmm... DR elmore - Meet you in line at the Delacorte around 11:30?
;)
BIG BB SPOILER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
JANELLE DOES IT!!!!! SHE IS HOH!!!!!!
When in WHAT?
DRJose, I'd love to tomorrow but my friend Dylan's coming in tomorrow. what about Saturday?
And...she's eligible to compete again next Thursday!!!!
She can take it all...and I don't think, at this point, that she will necessarily lose the jury votes. Depends on what transpires between the gruesome threesome between now and then.
Off to Tigard Pops. Thanks, TCB & ToO. ;)
DR Tomovoz - Thank you for confirming our "suspicions" regarding the title, Dude, and for the accompanying visual.A pleasure.
:)
More BB6
On the Canoe site they said the other day that April, Maggie and Ivette were hiding all the special toiletries (sp?) that are in the HOH bathroom in case Janelle won. The funny part is Janelle got all kinds of bath stuff, lotions etc. pretty funny
