Oct. 20, 2005 — Thirteen-year-old twins Lamb and Lynx Gaede have one album out, another on the way, a music video, and lots of fans.
They may remind you of another famous pair of singers, the Olsen Twins, and the girls say they like that. But unlike the Olsens, who built a media empire on their fun-loving, squeaky-clean image, Lamb and Lynx are cultivating a much darker personna. They are white nationalists and use their talents to preach a message of hate.
Known as "Prussian Blue" — a nod to their German heritage and bright blue eyes — the girls from Bakersfield, Calif., have been performing songs about white nationalism before all-white crowds since they were nine.
"We're proud of being white, we want to keep being white," said Lynx. "We want our people to stay white … we don't want to just be, you know, a big muddle. We just want to preserve our race."
Lynx and Lamb have been nurtured on racist beliefs since birth by their mother April. "They need to have the background to understand why certain things are happening," said April, a stay-at-home mom who no longer lives with the twins' father. "I'm going to give them, give them my opinion just like any, any parent would."
April home-schools the girls, teaching them her own unique perspective on everything from current to historical events. In addition, April's father surrounds the family with symbols of his beliefs — specifically the Nazi swastika. It appears on his belt buckle, on the side of his pick-up truck and he's even registered it as his cattle brand with the Bureau of Livestock Identification.
"Because it's provocative," explains April of the cattle brand, "to him he thinks it's important as a symbol of freedom of speech that he can use it as his cattle brand."
Songs like "Sacrifice" — a tribute to Nazi Rudolf Hess, Hitler's deputy Fuhrer — clearly show the effect of the girls' upbringing. The lyrics praise Hess as a "man of peace who wouldn't give up."
"It really breaks my heart to see those two girls spewing out that kind of garbage," said Ted Shaw, civil rights advocate and president of the NAACP's Legal Defense Fund — though Shaw points out that the girls aren't espousing their own opinions but ones they're being taught.
DR td - I keep running into Doug Sills in the elevator - and he was actually at Sweeney tonight too. Should I pass on your greetings to him?
I am having trouble posting fpor some reason. I keep getting thrown out of the site.
Of course, maybe the system doesn't want to catch the vixter's virus!
:D
The building cafe had chicken noodle soup today. I am eating a big scrumciolicous bowl of it now. Chock full of chicken and carrots and nboodles , a little overdone on the celry and parsley, but other than that quite yummy in my tummy
I see that DR Jane is lurking.
Jane, about the basmati.
I don't quite get the picture on how you prepare the rice after toasting it.
First, you put olive oil in a pan, heat it, add the rice (how much?) and toast it until each kernel can easily be cut in two.
Then you add water and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes?
How much water per quantity of rice? (is it like one cup of rice to two cups of water?)
And do you simmer it covered or uncovered?
It is very, very windy and stormy outside! A good time to watch some scary movies...I think it is time to see both the Hong Kong and Japanese versions of MADAM WHITE SNAKE!
But first, a nap. ;)
Today I'm off to a meeting with the director of my first official solo casting job! It's a student film, should be pretty easy, although we have to find a 4-year-old girl. That could present somewhat of a challenge.
Home sick today so between naps I will sit on the couch like so much fish and watch motion picture entertainments on DVD.
Greetings from Chicago! I'm back from a rehearsal with the Plaids and the cast with piano, bass, drums, and guitar. Christine Ebersole is a delight, and DRGinny, without makeup, Christine's a dead ringer for Geri Hart!
DR MattH, I have seen WIN A DATE WITH TAD HAMILTON and I really liked it. But it's a very girly romantic comedy (so I hesitate to recommend it to you). I don't remember any scenes with Sean Hayes and Nathan Lane. Did they only have the one scene?
We have SWIIIROTS on sale at the store. When I first spotted it, I thought the price was just $12.99. Nope, my glasses were blurry and we're charging $22.99. Too much for my wallet this time around; I can wait.
Lunch was very delicious, and I got back home early enough to be able to get to the movie theater showing CAPOTE in plenty of time.
It's a truly wonderful film. Hoffman (Philip Seymour, not Dustin) is brilliant beyond belief, and Clifton Collins, Jr. playing Perry Smith is almost his equal. The give and take these two actors experience during this film is something for the books.
Catherine Keener as Harper Lee is also grounded and very good, and numerous other superb actors pop in for brief appearances, Bob Balaban and Chris Cooper among them.
I loved it.
Natalie Portman can be an expressive actress, but I thought she was dreadful in STAR WARS II and only marginally better in STAR WARS III. Hayden Christiansen was horrible in II and really no better in III.
A friend believed that both actors are talented but they were saddled with Lucas' trite and laughable dialogue, and though I agree the dialogue is pretty feeble, couldn't talented actors have been less stiff and monotonous even if the writing was insufferable and the direction more interested in effects and mechanics than flesh and blood people? I think so.
I wonder if MBarnum has risen from his nap yet and is watching his movie on white snakes????
I think the ability to portray earnestness would have benefited Hayden Christensen ENORMOUSLY, despite the lines.
The missed opportunity was to give Portman some wisecracks...or at least sarcasm, from time to time. Leia must have gotten that talent from one of her parents, but it sure isn't on display with either Portman's or Christensen's characters.
One of the last songs that he played (at my request) was "New Words," sung by the fabulous Liz Callaway, from the CD "Unsung Musicals," produced by our very own BK and orchestrated by our very own Elmore!! Everyone who listened to it loved it! People asked me what's that song? What did it come from? Who sang it? I told everyone! ;D

BB, the most gorgeous man on Broadway -- am I quotting correctly? -- has a terrific version of NEW WORDS too!

Thanks François.
Brent could do a terrific version of singing the phone book.
Very true, but then who raised Leia?

Senator Organa and his wife...on Alderon.
First of all, he's the World's Sexiest Man Alive (WSMA, in HHW lingo ;)),
Hi DR Jane,
Yep, feeling much better, thanks!
Hi George.
I'm sorry; I knew I was not quotting right... and that it had to be that extreme!! :D
The first person that came to mind when I read today’s question was Keith. I just asked him his most memorable person and he said me. Isn’t that sweet? The second person he named was Spanky McFarland.
Did anyone portray John Garfield????
Cillaliz, nice picture. Was your hair strawberry blond there or is it just the way the photo is tinted? Either way I like it.
I see that FOX is releasing a 2 disc DVD of CLEOPATRA in February. I remember when that movie would show on network television back in the 70s...I seem to recall enjoying it.
Also releasing from FOX is MAKING LOVE. Haven't seen that movie in many, many years...although I do have the VHS of it.....and volume 1 of VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA! I hope that means that LAND OF THE GIANTS might follow eventually.
My review? I loved it.
Priscilla - I hope you enjoy Dolly. I saw her last year and she was SUPERB! What a wonderful performer...
Matth, I hope what your DVR is picking off is Ride The High Country; not Ride The Wild Country. Ride The High Country is a great movie!
