Think I'll go get a sandwich and some onion rings.  Then hopefully there will be a package or three to pick up.

So in that "Audra McDonald to play Bess at A.R.T." story that broke yesterday

http://www.playbill.com/news/article/149072-Audra-McDonald-Reveals-Casting-in-Porgy-and-Bess-at-ART

does this mean they may actually be changing (or supplementing) some of George Gershwin's own melodies and harmonies?
I wondered that myself. Or if they will go back to doing it as a musical with speech in between songs. I hope it won't end up like "Carmen: The Hip-Hopera."

I'm a bit scared of what could end up happening to that Work Of Art too.  From what I've "heard", most of the changes will involve incorporating passages from the original play, thus making it more of a "play with music".  Well, in this case, a "play with arias".

*I'm just wondering what's going to happen to the orchestration.

You mean the bar mitzvah band playing in the pit?

Well, I heard that not only are the performers doubling as the orchestra and playing instruments on stage, but they have to make their own instruments from household items.

...and y'all know that Audra is such a perfectionist...

With the passing of Ms. Taylor, I'm trying to recall what stars are left from Hollywood's Golden Era:

Olivia de Havilland
Joan Fontaine
Luise Rainer
Mickey Rooney
Kirk Douglas
Ann Blyth
Angela Lansbury
Celeste Holm
Jane Powell
Shirley Temple
Eleanor Parker

Anybody else?

What I know of Audra is what I see in performance.  And she's fabulous!

In Sondheim's recent birthday concert she was astounding in both voice and appearance.

DR Elmore, so sorry to hear about Helen Stenborg death. She appeared on a lot of TV shows over the last several years.

When did SNL alumn Victoria Jackson go off the deep end? Gosh, I used to love her!

There are strict instructions with my movie pass about immediate family only.  Since my "immediate family" living here  all have 4 legs, I have adopted Paul as my brother

John G., I think, mentioned that Mel Gussow wrote ET's obit and here is an article from NPR about that very thing.

Any time you choose. Except when they're closed. Isn't that fab? I'm happy the passes came through.

Thirty-two bags of trash from the church yard, and I don't think you'd see the difference unless I pointed it out to you.

In the past couple of weeks, I've put a considerable amount of effort into clearing too-big clothes from my closet and preparing them for my favorite consignment shop.  Alas, I just received an email from the owner announcing their going-out-of-business sale  :(

Well, at least you didn't drop off the stuff to sell and lose it all when they went out of business.

Back from a sandwich and onion rings and then, surprisingly, no packages.

Tenor Joseph Kaiser, who plays the lead in the Kenneth Branagh film of THE MAGIC FLUTE, will be stopping by in around 30 minutes to pick up some music.

Here's a scene from the movie, which Branagh has set in World War 1.
