The Drama Desk nominations are up.

Boyd Gaines was nominated for Oustanding Featured Actor in a Musical.  Isn't that a little strange?

Congrats to DR SINGINGNYMPH on gainful employment....now you will have to send cards to all those people who asked you to write when you get work.

I will be skipping the next Big Brother and So You Think You Can Dance cycles.

A couple weeks ago, I interviewed for a part-time position in the Cultural Arts Division of the City of Manhattan Beach's Parks & Recreation Department. (Say that 5 times fast!) A week later, the woman who interviewed me... her name's Megumi (*grin*) called my reference & it apparently went well. Today she called me back and offered me the job. She's sending my paperwork back to personnel for the official OK & will let me know when I can start. This is so perfect for me. Not only the arts aspect, but that I could take another part-time job or continue taking classes. And it's close enough that I could walk to work, weather permitting. *squee*

Congratulations, Singingnymph!! ;D

More on "How the West Was Won" on DVD (remastered):

From Warner Home Video:

HOW THE WEST WAS WON

The wondrous western historical saga How the West Was Won gallops onto home theatre screens August 26th in three new restored and remastered editions.

One of only two narrative feature films produced in the original Cinerama three-panel widescreen process, How the West Was Won is a stunning epic, following four generations of a courageous New England farm family as they travel to the fertile Ohio Valley during America's early westward expansion.

M-G-M and Cinerama, Inc. spared no expense to give this sprawling Western saga the huge vistas made possible with the original Cinerama process. After its initial theatrical engagements in theaters equipped with three synchronized projectors for Cinerama presentation, the film was subsequently presented on traditional theater screens with the three separate Cinerama panels being optically joined to form a standard 35mm 2.35:1 widescreen image, leaving most subsequent viewers puzzled by the annoying 'join lines.'

Following several years of careful development, the technicians at Warner Bros. Motion Picture Imaging perfected a technology that could finally eliminate the 'join lines,' and unify the images into a superb viewing experience that captures the essence of the production's initial road show exhibitions, with an aspect ratio of 2.89:1.

This ultimate western film gets the Ultimate treatment with How the West Was Won Ultimate Collector's Edition ($59.92 SRP). The two disc Standard Definition Ultimate Collector's Edition is loaded with collectible memorabilia including a 20-page theatrical press book reproduction, 10
behind-the-scenes photo cards and 10 postcards, and an exclusive movie poster offer. Streeting simultaneously will also be a glorious Blu-ray Hi-Def ($34.99 SRP) version. Exclusive to Blu-ray is the "SmileBox" version of the film which presents the image with a unique curvature that virtually recreates the true Cinerama experience in a home theater. This Blu-ray Hi-Def Edition comes with a special Digi-book packaging featuring 32-pages of rare press materials and behind-the-scenes photos. The third new edition is a Two Disc-Special Edition in standard definition ($20.97 SRP).

Some of Hollywood's biggest stars, including John Wayne, Henry Fonda, James Stewart, Richard Widmark, Gregory Peck, Lee J. Cobb, Debbie Reynolds and Carroll Baker star in How the West Was Won. Set between 1839 and 1889 against the backgrounds of the Louisiana Purchase, the Civil War, buffalo hunters, the Pony Express and the first transcontinental railroad, the film consists of five segments, with direction by Henry Hathaway, John Ford and George Marshall, and written by James R. Webb and John Gay, suggested by a Life Magazine series of the same name. The film was the winner of 3 Academy Awards (Best Screenplay, Best Sound and Best Editing) as well as being nominated for an additional five Oscars?, including Best Picture. In 1997, How the West Was Won was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the US National Film Registry.

How the West Was Won Special Features:
a. Film Historian Commentary
b. Dave Strohmaier's critically-acclaimed, feature-length documentary Cinerama? Adventure
c. The Making of How the West Was Won (Archival featurette)
d. Original Theatrical trailer

Gee, I have one of the original books from the Cinerama showing of HOW THE WEST WAS WON.  Maybe I should try to sell it on e-bay when the DVD comes out.

Good Afternoon!

I'm back from the gym.  -Alas, no fitting, but, I keep going to the gym so that my clothes will fit better.

-And just like my local location in NYC, this location was s-l-o-w this afternoon.

I had passed this location many times, but had never been inside it.  I had always thought it was two floors, but it turned out that entrance/reception area was on the first floor, but the rest of the gym was on the second floor.  -The rest of the first floor space is taken up by an Office Depot store.  In any case, I had a great workout - elliptical, rowing machine, ab circuit and stretching. :)

Did they have a reservoir?

I read the newspaper at the lake this weekend to discover that a woman pled guilty to stabbing her husband in the butt.

Frankly, I'm not that big on Barrowman.  Just not my type.  Too pretty.

I like the show he's on.  I think it's well written, well acted, well produced.

But Barrowman himself?  He looks, well, waxed.  He needs some hair on his pecs.

I have no idea.  I have never seen the show.  But I would like to have him cut my birthday cake.

Dear Readers,

Do you have any two-dollar bills you would be willing to part with? I am collecting them for a little project I'm working on. Anybody who sends me one will receive a sparkling prize (a hand-drawn picture by Mae-Ling or Wae-Ling Goldstein), as well as two one-dollar bills with witticisms written on them.

P.M. me for my address.

I had a nice surprise at the Men's Chorus rehearsal; the former accompanist, who left the Chorus a couple of years ago, has become a transgendered Manhattan celebrity, Our Lady J!  Jonnah came to rehearsal tonight because the Chorus is doing a beautiful and moving composition she's written.  We hadn't seen each other in at least two years and had a great reunion. I said to her, "You've gone from a really nelly man to an absolutely beautiful lady." It was so good to see her and to hear the Chorus rehearse her glorous writing.

As we left, she gave me a copy of her demo CD and I cannot wait to hear it tomorrow morning.

It is shocking what a difficult time Bryan is having getting an on-site estimate from a moving company.  They all seem to want to do it by phone.

Question number 1 “how many rooms do you have”.  He lives in a one room loft.

Next they begin to figure in appliances-he isn’t taking any.

JMK or MBarnum, do you know anyone who has moved cross country & can recommend a good moving company?

His boxes should arrive tomorrow and he can begin packing.  Sure hope nothing happens between now and closing, the place is no longer fit to show.

Jane, I moved from Arizona to Iowa, but it was a long time ago and I was fortunate enough to be moving North in January, which meant they had empty trucks from moving people south and had good discounts.  I think I had NorthAmerican Van Lines. They were very good, but that was 1992
