Well, you've read the notes, the notes were bell-shaped, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently in their baby bunting and trying to find a cow store that sells cloche hats.

Good morning, all! Today is a day with the McGlinnventory - trying to finish up these auction lists - and a meeting with Curtis to get him up to snuff on the Toyland mess and the recording projects since he's been gone for over six months.

I think that's the news for now.

I see that Kim Jong-il was a huge film fan and owned more than 20,000 and DVDs. His favorite star was Elizabeth Taylor. Sounds like he was an OK guy.  ;)

However it will never reach the cinematic glory of his LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD AND THE MONSTERS....in ColorScope.

Ours has mirrors but no changing rooms. But you are allowed to give anything back even bathing suits. For the most part i can try things on (i've gotten a jacket there). Or if it's a sweater i can pull it over my tshirt.  Pants is very hard (one time i wore a skirt and tried it on that way. For pjs (which i get there every year) i wear stretch pants and just make sure they can fit over them.

Our Costco does often have special vendors that come in just to sell a certain line for a week or two. Those things are usually more expensive than Costco's regular stuff.

As for the Topic of the Day...

I like Woody Allen films, but I've never watched enough of them nor paid that close enough attention to them to pick up on the hallmarks of his style. Alas, I know more about his personal life from the news and gossip magazines rather than his Artistic Oeuvre.

However, I did like "Vicky, Cristina, Barcelona".

Santa Claus has been out on a really bad DVD for years.  It's on Blu-ray now, finally in its correct AR (first time ever), with lots of extras.  But the transfer has issues, which you can read about once my review goes live.  Santa Clause is also in ColorScope.  :)

From the "From the mouth of babes..." Department:

My friend, Jeff, is currently on Daddy Duty while his partner, Chris, is in St. Louis rehearsing SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE. Jeff posted this yesterday on his Facebook Wall yesterday:

After a particularly rough day in which Henry was told Santa may not bring him presents because of his poor behavior.

Henry: Is Santa going to bring you presents?
Jeff: I didn't ask for presents, all I asked for was a little boy who behaved and was respectful.
Henry: (excitedly) I'm getting a brother?!?!?!

and scene!

There's a cute video on MSN right now that a father took (presumably with his phone) after his 3 or 4 year old son hit his younger brother whilst in line to see Santa Claus.  The father is saying "Let's go tell Santa Claus what you just did" and the kid is freaking out, saying, "No, we won't say anything, we'll just say 'Hi' and leave."  It's hilarious.

When we were growing up, it was our family tradition that each of us kids had our own private elf that looked in on our behavior and was known to remove presents from under the tree should we not behave.  One year I was pawing around in our living room and noticed one of my "missing" presents behind the couch.  "Hey, Mom, Nicodemus left my present right here!" I shouted.  I believe my mother simply pulled out the bourbon a little earlier that night.  ;)

And I guess I should start getting ready for today's "condensed" presentations of MY FAIR LADY. We'll be taking the show on the road to Westminster Canterbury, which is an assisted living/retirement community here in Richmond. In fact, the actress playing Mrs. Higgins is a resident there. They have a nice auditorium there and two pianos (I hope), and we will be presenting a "greatest hits" one hour version of the show. They will also be providing us with dinner between shows, which, if the food quality has not gone down since the last time I ate there, should be quite delicious. The complex not only has the standard food service kitchens and dining halls, but it also has its own restaurant.

It's been a long day but  a very good one. Still, I am very happy to be home.

I accomplished most of what I needed to do at the McGlinnventory. I needed to pull libretti for the upcoming auction. I found several we hadn't pulled before, but not EILEEN, which is probably at the bottom of a drawer containing Herbert music.

Then I went to Toyland where I met my friend Curtis, who survived touring with Kevin Spacey, and we scanned the full scores for ROBERTA, talked through the logistics of the project and parted. After six months all over the globe, he's going to travel to see his brother's new child and I forgot to ask if his mother is traveling with him. He's back next Wednesday, and then we'll finish up the ROBERTA scores. At 3:30, genug was definitely enough, and I headed home.

I'm not an Owen Wilson fan either, but unlike actors who have played "the Woody Allen role" in other Allen pictures, he seems to have captured the "Allen rhythm" in his delivery of the lines.  For this reason alone, Allen will probably use him again.

Yesterday was my unit's Christmas Holiday Lunch.  We always go at three o'clock, so that no one has to return to work, especially if they have had a drink.  This year they decided that for my sake, they would hold the lunch at Anthony's at Point Defiance a half mile from my house).  This was the same restaurant where Jane, Keith, George, and I ate a couple of summers ago.

Everyone thought I was crazy, because I ordered their special macaroni and cheese.  It was pretty fantastic, especially since they blended Dungeness crab and shrimp into the dish.

How are you doing, TCB? Are those maraschino cherries for old fashioneds, by any chance?

More likely Manhattans.  The first time I went to a Costco with my sister, the guy in line in front of us had these huge jars of cherries.  I hope he owned a cocktail lounge.

It is really good pizza, but it is a bit more expensive than say, Papa John's or Pizza Hut.

Had a splendidly splendid visit with the darling daughter.  We chatted, then had lunch at Mo's, then went and got her her Christmas present - her cell phone is basically dead and besides that was from the year One.  She's never gotten any kind of service where she lives - she was worried that would still be the case with any new phone, but the At&T guy assured her that it was absolutely the ancientness of her phone and its sim card - both over seven years old.  We found her a spiffy new phone - the phone itself, after rebate, was only about fifty bucks and it suits all her needs - little keyboard, pretty color, touch screen, etc.  So, for the rest of her present I paid her current bill and six months in advance so she doesn't have to worry about another cell phone bill until July.

I then found out I was eligible for an upgrade to a 4S and since I had someone who was desperate to buy my 4G I did it.  And the 4S is AMAZING.  SIRIously amazing with the new Siri thing.  You can ask it questions and it finds answers, you can tell it to text anyone in your address book or any number, tell it to dial, tell it to remind you of something at some time a few days later, tell it to put stuff on your calendar - unbelievable and I probably haven't even tapped what it can do.

Day 7: Lawse, yes...I have a parent with memory issues.  Primarily, I was told that I would be doing all the driving this year and that "she" (i.e. my mom) would say nothing.  The gist here is that my mom hates riding with other people.  When she does, there is an onslaught of expressions, breath intakes, warnings, second-guessings of the driver's capacity to read road signs or recognize traffic lights.  In short, it' s nervewracking unless she  refrains from said behavior.

All of that said, she has not yet kept her promise.  In point of fact, I daresay she' s incapable of doing same until she is prepared to relinquish " control".

Sigh.

Today was meant to be simple:  We were going to CostCo in Augusta GA, followed by a trip to the Augusta Mall.  The reason was that we decided to forgo our annual drive to Greenville SC.  That decision was mine following Day 6's  annual drive to Spartanburg SC to visit our cousin, Dot, have lunch at Wade's, and to make a trip to a cemetery to place holiday flowers on the graves of my grandparents and great grandparents.  It was nervewracking.  Nothing happened...no near-incidents...just comments about my speed (I was driving too fast even though I was under the speed limit). My stops were too abrupt, my starts were too fast, my lane changes were not what they should be, etc.  There was no way I was going through that again today, or so I thought.

Sigh.

Day 5 was Sunday and I drove only a couple of miles with no comments.

So, today was a rough one and completely unenjoyable.  I am going nowhere else that involves me driving longer than 10 minutes.  I hope the remainder of my stay is uneventful by comparison.

DR Jane, my mom had not bought me a kindle. IT was such an awkward topic to bring up. So i just asked how come she hadn't asked me what i wanted. And she replied that she knew i always like to choose my own things. And that there would be more sales on Boxing Day.  I told her about winning the kindle and before that had asked if she had gotten me anything as a surprise. So i think we're good. :)

Well, Samantha told me a lot more than anyone else did.  She said the smoke was so thick in the house she couldn't tell what was on fire.  Then mom and dad wouldn't leave the house even though the smoke was thick.  I am very glad I'm going up on Friday.  it's hard because i have some really big things happening at work. So I'm going to really try to focus for the next two days and get a number of motions done and research done.  I'll probably be taking some work home.

Not good they wouldn't leave the house.  Good for Samantha & good you were on the phone so you could call your brother!!!

Our delightful afternoon/evening was marred by something really stupid on my part.  With some birthday money from my Mom, I'd bought a cute new pair of gloves and wore them today to show to her.  They must have been in my lap when I jumped out of the car at a red light in front of the Schuster Center box office.  I went in and bought 3 fabulous seats for the Feb. 4 matinee of JERSEY BOYS, one of which is Mom's Christmas present.  We made a couple of other stops after Richard picked me up and we were on our way to Mom's when I realized that my gloves were gone.  I told her nothing, of course, and will go to Target tomorrow to try to replace them.  This is the second pair of gloves I've lost this way recently.  Arrgggh!

Good Evening!

The two presentations at Westminster Canterbury went very well. -And the Theatre there was quite impressive: full lighting grid and board, sound system, dressing rooms, green room. And the two Steinway baby grands were very nice too.

Prunes for dessert?

Actually, we had fresh fruit (honeydew, cantaloupe, strawberries and pineapple) and some surprisingly very delicious brownies.

The darling daughter doesn't have a lot of dough, so this year she made me two cherry loaves - based on a recipe of her Aunt Jean - something I used to absolutely go bonkers for every Christmas during the married years.  Aunt Jean still made me a cherry loaf every year for about five years even after the deevorce but I haven't had one in twenty-six years.  I just had a piece now and I have just sent my daughter a text (which I did by speaking into my phone "Send Jennifer a text" which it promptly did as I dictated it) - "Cherry loaf - best present ever - eating it now".
