I had a very surprising night of viewing. It started off as I expected it to, by finishing the remaining ODD COUPLE episodes. Three good episodes and one very weak one with Oscar having a blind date with a Greek girl who turned out to be a belly dancer.

There were no bonus features in this DVD set, so I went to the t-watch shelf where the other two boxes of THE ODD COUPLE are sitting and saw that there were a pile of bonus features in the first season box, so I opened it and watched some of them including Jack Klugman's surprise Emmy win that year (Carroll O'Connor was heavily favored to win for ALL IN THE FAMILY) and an outtake reel.

Funny thing about the outtakes, with one exception, the outtakes were from episodes from season three that I had been watching the last three days. So, they jumped the gun with those.

I still had two hours of prime time left, so I went ahead and put in the new Criterion disc of MISS JULIE. I had never seen this film or the play it's based on, so it was a totally new experience for me.

It's a glorious film and a quite marvelous story dealing with the battle of sexes/classes in 19th century Sweden. The play versionis definitely one I'll be reading since I know the director added flashbacks to the film that are only mentioned in the play.

DR Jane. I just finished watching A Mighty Heart.  It is at times very difficult to watch, as I'm sure you can imagine.  I did not read the book A Mighty Heart, but I did read Who Killed Daniel Pearl, so I was familiar with sone of the details.  I watched the story very closely when it happened. I also have the book of Daniel's writing. As hard as it was to watch, I'm very glad I did.  I think Angelina Jolie did a wondeful job.

When I first opened the MISS JULIE package, my heart skipped a beat. Whoever packed the disc into the jewel case stamped the DVD with the anti-theft strip, and I had to peel it very, very carefully off the bottom of the disc (the side read by the laser) hoping it wouldn't leave residue that would impede my viewing of the disc. Thankfully, after removing it carefully and rubbing the spot, it had only a slight little pause when the laser reached that part of the disc. With deadlines looming, I didn't want to have to wait for another review copy.

When I finished the film, I watched the 33 minute video essay on the movie by film historian Peter Cowie. It was a very thorough discussion of the original playwright, the film's director, and, of course, the film itself along with information on the actors playing the leading roles. Max Von Sydow plays the tiny part of the groom in the film. He's 21 years old and in some ways looks 60 already. He's always had that mature countenance about him.

I also watched the trailer for the film. It has English text (no speaking) trying to make audiences believe the movie was going to feature the heights of passion and daring.

There are still two more bonus features on the disc, so I should be able to finish with it tomorrow. That means I should be able to get to the Blu-ray of THE GAME PLAN tomorrow evening before prime time shows start.

...My garage door has decided that it doesn't have to work on weekends.  No lie. It works Monday to Friday and on Saturday and Sunday it doesn't shut - it goes down to the sensors and right back up....

A thought: Military Electronics (particularly radar) can interfere with things like garage openers. Many military installations have special operations on "week-ends only" for reservists.

Maybe you can blame Bush.

Oh, I thought about some sort of interference, but it's just hitting the weather stripping that is harder when it's cold, like last weekend and today and more pliable when it's warm, like all week long.

I didn't get to watch NAMASTEY LONDON because the disc wouldn't play on my dvd player for some bizarre reason. I had watched one of the musical numbers when I first got the disc, so I know it works...or it did at one time.

Well, instead I watched a cute, screw ball comedy about a gal who flies to London to attend her sister's wedding. She hires an actor to pretend to be her boyrfriend.

It was a cute movie called AAP KI KHATIR (2006)

And now I am into my 3rd Bollywood movie of the day, a mythological titled RAM RAJYA (1967) starring the very cute Bina Rai as Goddess Sita and some very handsome devil as Lord Ram.

Interestingly, this DVD has subtitles in English and in Dutch.
