Well, you've read the notes, the notes flew by like the year and the gazelle, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they were planning to come home this year, but the year, like the gazelle, flew by and now it won't be until 2012.
-
And the word of the day is: ABRADE!
-
Topic of the Day: in iTunes: the new soundtrack to "The Muppets (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0065KT0LE/ref=docs-os-doi_0)." The MP3s are available from Amazon for only $4.99 (plus tax for Washington state). It's $9.99 from iTunes and the physical CD probably doesn't have an extensive booklet (a digital booklet isn't available from either iTunes or Amazon), so I bought the MP3s. :)
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And Amtrak has WiFi now!
-
I did manage to get a good hour's nap, and then I showered, dressed, packed up my MacBook, got the rest of my bags together, headed downstairs, and hailed a cab to Penn Station. It looks like they are expecting the train to fill up along the way, so I already have a seatmate. He's heading a little further South than me, so it will be nice to have the same person for the duration.
-
And now I think I'm going to try to grab a few more winks before the sun finishes rising.
Laters...
-
Good morning, all.
-
Soon to be back at work on the paper. The carpenter comes this morning to fix the door frame. (Hopefully it won't be too expensive.)
-
Great Filichia on Friday. I love the way he bothers to analyze why certain shows don't work and that he's not afraid to call people on what he sees to be a show's shortcomings. The comment on the "Chicago's Al Capone" lyric is spot on. The interesting thing is that this is not just another Frank Wildhorn failure. Others are to share the blame.
-
TOD: MP3: "A Broadway Christmas."
Maybe, if I get to the library, "A Bishop's Wife."
-
Travel vibes to DR JOSE.

DR JOSE is hanging out with some VIPS these days.
-
TOD:
DVD - Rise of the Planet of the Apes
CD - Scent of Mystery
-
Tonight on Ovation - Matthew Bourne's NUTCRACKER which I have never seen. The commercial interruptions are endless and come at strange places.....but I will stick with it as long as I can.
Now I am off to work. Oh well.
-
Good morning, all! I slept later than usual, and all I can remember of my dreams is being stuck with my mother somewhere in the American west in an area I did not recognize and the futility of shipping back a defective package. I also had a very long dream about writing a recording script for ROBERTA.
This mornng, at 11, I see my barber for an overdue haircut. Since he's at Radio City, I will see the Christmas tree as well. Following that, I will go to the Lincoln Center NYPL and pick up my photocopies of "The Pipes of Pansy" before I head back home. Then, I have laundry - a lot of it since I'm doing all my bedding today - and maybe some work on italics and umlauts for the Herbert lieder.
TOD:
DVD: Christmas Carols by many, Nutcrackers by many, A TUNA CHRISTMAS, and other holiday features
CD: Scott Joplin, Victor Herbert, many many Christmas CDs, Guy Haines, Judy Henske
VCR: Festive smut

I like Matthew Bourne's work quite a lot. I thought his SWAN LAKE was amazing.

Friday morning greetings! We have 2 days of festivities ahead of us to celebrate dear niece/goddaughter Lauren's graduation from Miami University. Today's the ceremony and tomorrow's the party. This is the young woman whose father (Richard's older brother) died 2 years ago. She had every reason to spin out of control, but she dug in and today follows in his footsteps (and her uncles' and her grandmother's) across the stage at Millett Hall. I am so proud of her!
-
Here is Lauren wearing her 2011 MAC championship ring, which she earned as student athletic trainer for the football team. The ring is as big as her head!

I've long been resisting going the iTunes route and purchasing non-hardcopy music but I see myself buckling and giving in. Bebe Neuwirth has a new recording that I've been wanting to hear, but it's available only as digital on iTunes or Amazon. I've been buying digital books for over three years--I might as well start buying music the same way...
-
That ring is kind of scary, DR Ginny! It looks like an eye that is looking back at me!
But that is a very fetching picture of Lauren.
-
MEdia Check:
DVD: THE STINGIEST MAN IN TOWN, along with this year's viewing of THE HOUSE WITHOUT A CHRISTMAS TREE, THE HARD NUT, THE HOMECOMING and AMAHL AND THE NIGHT VISITORS.
CD: Christmas music (until I buy the Bebe Neuwirth digital recording, that is.)
...Digital Recording...is that what we call these things now?
-
Good morning. I have nothing in particular planned for today. Maybe I should start to begin thinking about getting ready to prepare for Christmas?
-
I posted this on my facebook and will post it here too. I'm glad my attending the debate didn't spark any big political discussion. I can tell you fun things - like Michelle Bachmann definitely doesn't use botox, but otherwise, this is all I'm going to say
OK, just so ALL of my friends don't think I've fallen off the deep end. I think I'm like many people in this country. I don't agree with the Republicans on social issues and don't agree with the Democrats on the economy. In my opinion the next election is about the economy.
I do take Iowa's first in the nation status for the election process seriously. After Iowa some candidates drop out, after New Hampshire and South Carolina even more drop out. I honestly don't know who I'm going to caucus for, but I will be caucusing. For me it's a difficult decision- who I think can win or someone I like but don't think will make it through the whole process. The debate was a wonderful experience, seeing the candidates in person (they are very chummy when the camera is off) helps and listening to them without commentary by anyone helps too. But for now, I'm still undecided.
-
I'm in that time period where I can do nothing: can't do laundry, can't leave for the barber, the place is in complete disarray, and I am seriously frustrated. Grrrrrrrrrr . . .

Breathe, DR Elmore, breathe...

TOD:
LAW & ORDER, Season 9
-
Day 3 is here, but it's a very slow morning. My mom is out having blood drawn (a monthly event).
After getting 8 hours of sleep, I'm oddly exhausted.
-
Some pictures from Chelsea.
Our front door
-
Our tree.
-
The Tree Topper.
-
A Close Up of one ornament.
-
Our Picture Stand.
-
Finally, a Visitor from Florence (Italy, Europe).
-
Hope you enjoyed them. I'll post some Basket Project pictures later. We are heading out to the Credit Union and then to a museum and to visit a friend.
Laters!
-
Great holiday photos, DR Ben!
-
Nice photos DR Ben!
-
TOD:
CD: Conan the Destroyer - Dynamic new Tadlow recording
DVD: This Sceptred Isle - Two disc collection of film travelogues produced by Harold Baim and shown in British cinemas between 1944 and 1974. I used to groan when the words "A Harold Baim Film" appeared on the credits and indicated another overlong short before the main feature but these films have now taken on the warm glow of nostalgia and I can now enjoy them. The colour photography is splendid.
Blu: Mysterious Island - I was late getting this but I'm glad I did. Picture and sound are spectacular.
-
DR Ben - CHRISTMAS!!!
-
And here's our front yard this morning - the gas pipeline replacement project has made its way to our block:
-
The guy in the hole has a counterpart drilling in our basement and I guess they'll meet somewhere underneath our front lawn...
-
Good Morning, once again.
I managed to nod off for a couple of minutes here and there between NYP and WAS. However, I'm sure that once I get to RVR, I'll be taking a nap before I go in for my (one and only) rehearsal.
-
I'm glad this weekend's parties aren't at our house...
-
Fun pictures, DR Ben!
-
Day 3 is here, but it's a very slow morning. My mom is out having blood drawn (a monthly event).
After getting 8 hours of sleep, I'm oddly exhausted.
What is eight hours of sleep?
-
Wow! Your house is very festive, Ben!
-
Love the photos, Ben. Making me feel bad I have no decorations up. But maybe that's why there was nothing taken yesterday in the burglary.
-
And now they've brought out the big toys...
-
Ginny, do you have to pay for this or is it a City funded upgrade?
-
Ginny, I was quite distraught when the gas company knocked on my door and told me I was chosen for some kind of testing wherein they would dig up a portion of the gas line. I had only two years earlier planted my butterfly garden.
-
I would guess it is the gas company paying for this.
-
I would guess it is the gas company paying for this.
Yep, and we're hoping to get a new sidewalk out of it!
-
Ginny, do you have to pay for this or is it a City funded upgrade?
Utility company, DR JMK. They've been working all over our neighborhood since summer.
I'm just glad Lauren's graduation parties are at her Mom's house this weekend...
-
In Portland when this kind of stuff is "mandated," sometimes there are LIDs imposed where the homeowners need to at least help with the cost. Glad you don't have to.
-
DR JMK, if this were a city project I think we would have to pay all or part, but it's the utility company's idea.
-
Thanks again, all, for the notes last night. It's still kinda freaky and thankfully, a friend was able to be at the house for the carpenter while I went to work.
But I can't get too distracted from finishing this paper tonight.

Didn't they have to repair any damage they did?
NO DAMAGE VIBES FOR DR GINNY!!!
-
All they were required to do was fill in the trench with dirt. I was very lucky. They found a spot in the alley where the fence was moved up a few feet to make room for the gate where they were able to dig. But if that line ever has to be replaced ...
-
Jose, great stories and photo from your encounter with Michael Riedel.
-
I'm up, CDs are shipping and the sun is shining.

So, the burglary story is getting more bizarre. There's another John Griffin here at the office whose house was burglarized last Thursday with the same mode of entry: door kicked in. In his case, they rifled through things looking for something in particular but didn't take anything.
I have to go to the police to tell them about this.

Good Afternoon!
Greetings from Richmond, Virginia!
:)
-
*When I arrived at the Amtrak station here, I called my mom...
-You're Dad is out right now taking someone to the airport, he should be on his way home now. Call him.
So... I called him.
-There flight is delayed. I'm still with them. It will be about an hour. Ask your mom to come pick you up.
So... I called my mom again, and told her it would be an hour before my dad could come and get me.
-It's just an hour. Wait.
I can just take a cab.
-Why can't you wait?
Because it will be an hour. Don't worry about it, I can pay for a cab.
-Why would you do that when your dad will be there soon.
Not "soon". In an hour. Don't worry, I'll see you soon.
*The train station is only 10 minutes away from my parents house. It was a relatively cheap cab ride. ;)

Hmm...
And this will turn into an episode of "Law & Order" in 5... 4... 3... 2...

I am back from trips to the barber, the Little Pie Company, and the NYPL. The laundry is now in the washers and it's time to vacuum and mop the floors.

Jose, great stories and photo from your encounter with Michael Riedel.
Thanks, DR John G - It really was kind of a strangely surreal evening. I noticed him come in to the restaurant - and I've seen him there before. Then I heard him singing - well, trying to sing "Two for the Road", and then... Well... ::)
-
OK...
Time for a cat nap, and then rehearsal.
Laters...

I have nothing to say, but I'm catching up little by little.

You Are So Right---Corrected Now...The N Is Too Close To The B
-
Hello, everyone.
I was sick all week, but think I'm on the mend now.
-
My condolences to BK, Jane, and all those here who knew Susan Gordon. I was sorry to hear of her passing.
-
John G, oy! I hope that you're correct that nothing was taken. Even so, how awful!
-
Must tend to the laundry, then will try to catch up.
-
I, too, enjoyed your photos, Ben. Your front door is my favorite.

Add me to the chorus of those who enjoy Ron's Christmas stories. (And the photos.) How nice that you still have family--and that you're still speaking!

I think buying plane tickets is one of the most stressful things. What if I forgot my middle name on the ticket? Or I got my friend's date of birth wrong? Would they deny us boarding? What if I got the dates wrong? All that money lost, and maybe stranded somewhere. Oy.
-
When Michelle Bachmann states in the news recaps for last night's debate that she is a "serious candidate for president," I start giggling. I wonder if she and her "homo no mo" husband will fight over title for first lady.

Thank you. I have continued to chat, via email, with friends going back to jr. high & elementary school.

I know if you go out of the country the ticket must match your passport. Within the country I leave off my middle initial that is on my driver's license.

Don't.

There are so many opportunities for me to make an expensive error!
When I flew to Portland last year to see Bruce I accidentally read the time for the flight as AM instead of PM. Fortunately Keith noticed when the email conformation was received. I called immediately & they cancelled the flight free of charge. You might double check but at the time the airline said I had a window to cancel without charge. That might be a standard all airlines follow by law & keep a secret.

I was going to comment that it must be part of that story about the package left for the neighbors who wouldn't answer the door, but that might have invited a response from the bitter and humorless. ;)

DR John G what did the police say about the two incidents?
-
Jane, did you and Keith make a contribution to Chai Life?
-
I emailed Avi and the family that we would.
-
I had never heard of the group before, frankly.
-
In completely unrelated news, is there a more incredible orchestrator than Dave Grusin? I'm listening to some of his stuff for Brasil '66 right now and it is all just so goshdarn beautiful.
-
BK, BTW, I picked up the Russ Conway North by Northwest. 45 is in pretty bad shape, but it was fun to hear.

We made a different donation.

I will go to the police tomorrow or Sunday. i had to come home and finish the first draft of that monster paper I have to write for class. I did call and the officer who visited the house last night was off today and tomorrow.

I did have some good news today, though. Dad got the results of his CAT scan and there was no sign of cancer. The doctor must have gotten it all when she removed that polyp.

Good night, all.

I would no sooner e-mail Miss Gordon's husband than e-mail the owner of a certain record label. I have heard so much about this man from Miss Gordon that if I ever came face to face with him I'm just not sure how nice I'd be. Let's just say that the things I heard were not pleasant.

Great pictures, Ben!

I'm catching up, but I've got to write down the belated wishes I forgot to give from the other day.
