Well, you've read the notes, the notes said a fond farewell and a happy hello, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they'll be celebrating with us tonight at our Annual New Year's Rockin' Eve bash.
-
And the word of the day is: DITHYRAMBIC!
Smoke on your pipe and put that in.
-
Have a Happy AND SAFE New Year's Eve Day, Everyone!! ;D
-
Tonight, the family is having dinner at 6:30 at a local place called Budd Bay Cafe (http://www.buddbaycafe.com/). After dinner, we'll all probably go to my sister's house for a while. I'm sure that we'll all be at our respective homes long before midnight.
:D
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
New Year's Eve Day!
-
TOD:
DVD - a slide show presentation of photos I made for my cousin, which plays in my Upconvert Player but NOT in my Blu Ray player.....hmmmmmmmmmmm & ALL MINE TO GIVE starring Mr Cameron Mitchell and Ms Glynis Johns
CD - The History of Rock n Roll with some very four very nice songs, and lots of others.
-
Very nice to read about Kritzerland's year!
-
Good morning. Winter has arrived in Phoenix, Arizona.
-
You can have it, DR LAURA.
-
Off to work. Oh well.
-
TOD:
Unless something unexpected arrives in the mail today, I have no new DVDs for this weekend.
However, I do have the 3 final mysteries (2 discs each) of Helen Mirren's PRIME SUSPECT series that I've yet to watch, so maybe we'll see one of those...or something else in my library.
BTW: Tomorrow is my wife Sandy's birthday.
-
Good morning, all! I didn't get back to sleep last night until around 2 am - I hope this new neighbor and her rude friends will not be a constant irritation - so I slept late. I will head to Toyland around noon to do some more edits with Mr Skip Kennon, and I will occupy my morning on notes on the numbers we've looked over. I must make a trip today to Citibank and deposit some money into my savings account as well.
Your report on 2010 was very nice, BK. I had lots of nice things happen this year and I remember next to nothing. I wish I could blame it on sex and drugs.
Tonight I plan to settle in, watch Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin on tv, file my 2010 tax receipts, and do little else.
TOD:
DVD: the Netflix items still sit here
CD: Portia Nelson, Guy Haines, Liz Callaway, sundry Christmas CDs,
VCR: trash
-
Happy New Year, all! I, for one, will be happy to see the back of this year!
-
Happy last day of 2010!
-
Happy New Year's Eve!

The first layer of The Cherpumple is baking.

Not sure what to do. I lent someone money to pay his rent in early 2009. Over the last few months, I've left three phone message and three emails asking for the money back, and no response. Please send vibes for a friendly resolution, although it may be beyond being friendly at this point.
-
That money is gone, FJL. Along with the friendship.

DR FJL, as an occasional and grateful recipient of your generosity in the past, I am so sorry to hear this!

Good morning, all. And a safe home for all partying tonight.
-
Sorry to hear that, FJL, and I'm sending vibes for a quick resolution to the matter to your liking. But I have to agree with Laura on this one.

Friday morning greetings! Rob and Mary Linda arrived back from Michigan just before 11 last night and we stayed up to chat for a while. Everyone slept late today and we're looking forward to a late afternoon showing of TRUE GRIT and our traditional New Year's Eve dinner of Chinese carry-out. We'll ring in 2011 in front of the TV.
-
Morning all! And a very Happy Last Day of 2010. I am also fairly glad to see it go. I'm just hoping that 2011 proves to be a much better year.
It's warmer today--we will be in the 70's all weekend long. I didn't bother to try to turn on the heat because it was 67 when I went to bed.
Seeing that it was such a nice warm morning I decided that all the family needed to be clean and smelling great to greet the New Year. I usually take the dogs to the vet for a winter bath but as funds are in short supply I decided to try it myself. I have never given them a bath in the bathtub. In the Spring/Summer I wash them with the hose outside.
I put the space heater on in the bathroom and warmed it up to about 80 so they wouldn't be cold. I thought I was going to have a real problem keeping them in the tub but much to my amazement Toby laid down and didn't give me a bit of trouble. When it was Sheena's turn she didn't want to get into the tub but once I pulled her over the edge she sat so I didn't really have a problem with her either.
I think they liked being toweled off the best.
There was much praise given to both. "Good dog" was spoken many, many, many times. A treat was in order and given to both.
I sat in the bathroom with them until I was sure they were both dry. One thing I must say is that I have a pair of "wash and wear" dogs--with their short hair neither of them take very long to dry. Of the two, Sheena takes longer. I didn't see any fleas but then I never do. If there were any they would be easy to spot on Toby.
Then they were set free and I turned my attention to giving the entire bathroom and myself a good cleaning.
The entire Hegerty family (and bathroom) is now clean, fresh and smelling GREAT to meet the New Year!
Now that I know how easy it is to give Toby and Sheena a tub/shower bath, I won't be taking them to vet's anymore. Money saved!
-
No. We are making a cherpumple.
Enjoy.
-
Of course, anything I try to bake is pretty much a joke, so you are probably right.
-
Good Morning to...
PAGE TWO!!
-
I'm still waiting for my coffee to finish brewing, so you may have this dance...
;)
-
Photos will follow.
That I would like to see. (You know, if all the layers were the cher- part, I'd probably eat the entire cake.)
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I guess it is time to wrap this past year up. -And I've got a lot of wrapping to do.
*As opposed to "rapping" which is something I only ever do at karaoke. And very rarely at that.
-
I have no idea what a cherpumple is.
Vibes to FJL. I hope all turns out well.
I will be staying home as the fireworks scare the dogs.
Don't everyone gasp at once but I bought myself a bottle of Arbor Mist Sangria to try. I thought since I'm at home the only danger would be my bumping into the wall on the way my bed and sleeping way late tomorrow. No, I don't plan on drinking the whole bottle. I think if I manage one glass (if I even like the taste) that will knock me out.
Since I don't normally drink, I'm a cheep drunk.

Isn't that punishable by a fine or imprisonment?

We made the "ple" layer first, since it goes on the bottom.

I am off to clean up some of this house. I would like a couple of rooms presentable by the end of the year. And that's today, oy!

No. We are making a cherpumple.

Well...
I still have some catching up to do here on HHW, alas, I also have some catching up to do here in NYC. Since the blizzard thwarted my plans to head back up here on Monday, I have a couple of loose ends to tie up today. Run, run, run.

I had forgotten what a cherpumple was. I at first thought it had something to do with Cher.
-
Happy New Year's Eve Day, y'all!
-
I'm up after a weird dream - this dream will cause me to be extra careful with my wallet.
-
Helper will be here at eleven.
-
Cherpumple is definitely not on my diet either, but maybe a ple would be. I wonder what just one layer would taste like
-
Or would a cher or a pum be less calories?
-
That would be a hilarious thing to take to a pot luck

I had a very strange dream last night too.

Greetings from Toyland!
Before I left the apartment, I went up to the 4th floor. The apartment door to 4C is broken and anyone can walk in. So I did. Then I went down to see the super to alert him. He told me the apartment is not yet rented but the broker has been showing it. So I called the landlord and left him a message about last night's activities. I hope the broker's ass ends up in a sling.

I agree and hope we are both wrong.

Afternoon all.
We did the laundry this morning. Anthony is napping right now. We will go out for New Years Eve dinner to our local hangout
Lasagne (http://www.lasagnarestaurant.com/)
We went there last year and had a very nice time. We will then come home and probably watch something, thought I don't know what. It will be a low-key evening and weekend.
Happy New Year one and all.
-
Welcome Home, DR Ron Pulliam!
Whew!
Thanks, Jose!
-
I'm cooking dinner tonight for the DP and our friend Sabrina. Pork Shoulder with Root Beer in the crockpot, wasabi mashed potatoes, broiled asparagus and a salad with a lemon vinaigrette dressing. Sabrina is bringing dessert and I don't know what the DP's contribution will be. Probably sarcasm.
-
DR Ben - Lasagne sounds like someplace Richard and I would like! I'm so glad you're feeling well enough to enjoy your New Year's!
-
I just returned from picking up the mail and I did get something to watch this weekend: THE ADVENTURES OF MARK TWAIN w/Fredric March from the Warner Archive.
I wasn't expecting that until next week.
:o
-
I got a screener for STONE yesterday, which I may watch. Anything to get the bad taste of ALPHA AND OMEGA out of my eyes. Yes, my eyes taste things, so sue me. ;)

In the Oh Good Grief! department. I got all bundled up to go out and clear the snow off of my snow. I looked down at the table in the garage and there was a stack of mail! My cat/house sitter must have set it down to get her key to the door and forgot to pick it up. In it was a beautiful photo of the Vixter and a nice surprise from DR Elmore. Thanks to both of you~!
-
Luckily I found the mail before the bills in it are due. No harm no foul. She's a bit forgetful at times but she takes very good care of the kids, so I just let it slide
-
Ok, it looks like I'm going to make it to the party tonight. Unlike last year, I really really want to go. We only got about 3-4 inches of snow. The city truck has been by something like 5 times - very unusual - I have cleared the driveway, made my spinach dip to put in a breadbowl, made some dill crackers. I'm only supposed to take the dip, but Paul was assigned an appetizer and he said he might take some cheese. He isn't used to being asked to take anything, so I won't be surprised if he doesn't do it. So, I made a double batch of the dip and I figured I'd at least do the dill crackers so there's something else if he "forgets"
-
And the word of the day is: DITHYRAMBIC!

And The Song Of The Day Is: I SING THE BODY ELECTRIC
"I Sing The Body Electric

I Toast To My Own Reunion

A VERY HAPPY AND HEALTHY NEW YEAR TO ALL MY FRIENDS AT HHW!!
MAY THE NEXT YEAR BRING GOOD WISHES AND HEALING VIBES TO ALL
LET THE CELEBRATION BEGIN !!!

Sorry to hear that, FJL, and I'm sending vibes for a quick resolution to the matter to your liking. But I have to agree with Laura on this one.
I will also send vibes. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The person probably does not have the money to pay you back. But at least he/she should have the courtesy to tell you even if only in an email.

I'm still trying to figure out the food thing. And I'm really hoping there's a few packages today.

And the bad news is that I suspect one of those young folks from last night is the broker, who I hope gets his ass in some serious trouble. For all I know he's using that apartment for suspect purposes.
I stopped by Apt 4C just now. The door is securely locked. I guess the landlord got my messages.

I have to figure out a white elephant gift for the party. I'm sure I have something around here that will work. Maybe my measuring spoons that are have arms and legs that I forgot to give my friend at Christmas time. Or....hmmm....I must go find a white elephant

Yes, we do. Perhaps the 8th or 9th of January. The next weekend, the 15th (also Martin Luther King Weekend) is taken. We have to go out to Long Island for a birthday party.

The photos make the beginning look great, Laura. Can't wait to see the final product.

I made some major excavations in the living room. The kitchen still needs some attention, but at least the dishes are done and the laundry is in the dryer. I hope I can keep it up and not get too distracted.

The apartment situation gets weirder and weirder: the super is the one who locked the apartment, but fifteen minutes ago I heard footsteps upstairs. I went to check and found the broker showing it to a couple. I told him about lasy night's visitors and he claimed to know nothing about it.
On my way down to the market I ran into the super and told him I had just seen the broaker, who left the apartment unlocked. Steve, the very super super of our building, relocked it and told me to call him any time I hear footsteps in the building. I learned today as well that we have three vacancies: Apt 5C, 4C, and 4A. I'd kill for 4A since it's huge, but it's going for around $2400/month. I'm guessing the one above me is around $1700. I think they'll be empty for a while. Who can afford them?
-
DR elmore did you possibly recognize the broker from last night? Continued vibes for no neighbors or quiet ones.

Well, the sides of the cake bake faster than the cake over the pie.
And there was trouble getting it out of the pan with the sides intact.
-
Today was such a nice warm day I even had shorts on.
I finely was able to stain my glider. Something I've been wanting to do all year but was always to tired to get around to. I am paying for it bit now. My right hand and arm are killing me.
I hate arthritis.
-
I've got my spinach dip in a bread bowl and dill crackers ready to go, found a white elephant and just have to shower and find something to wear. I've already eaten more than my diet allows today, but it's a holiday. I lost 2 pounds this week and will get back on track tomorrow
-
The spinach dip and dill oyster crackers don't go together, I made two different things
-
DR Laura, your discription reminds me of many Food Network Challenges. They build things out of cake

I'd at least keep tabs on how long 4A stays empty and then make an offer. They might accept less from someone who has already proved themselves to be a good renter.
-
Well the fireworks have already started. I hear the booms.
While I was staining the glider, I kept hearing sirens. One ended quite close to the house. I'm guessing up at Parsons and MLK. Why to people have to act so stupid when it's a Holiday. Don't they understand that the best gift they could give someone is the chance to spend the next one with their family?
-
DR elmore did you possibly recognize the broker from last night? Continued vibes for no neighbors or quiet ones.
The broker was an older man; he was not one of the group.

Our state legislature, in their great wisdom, has made fireworks legal in the state of Arizona. Arizona. Desert. Where it is very dry in the summertime. And a tossed cigarette butt can start a wildfire that will burn thousands of acres. Good move.

They are still illegal here in Florida--However--you only need to sign a release that you are using them because you are trying to scare away crows, squirrels, etc. So for some strange reason, every New Years Eve and 4th of July the critters come out in droves and need to be scared away.....yeah, right. ;)

The road grader just went by again. I appreciate it, but now I'll have to shovel again. I think I can get out without doing that. hope so

That is cool. You could also put chunks of cheese on it as well.

Cherpumple!
-
Good morning. Winter has arrived in Phoenix, Arizona.
Ummmmm...... Laura..............
You can keep it
We are getting round two here now. It is coming down at a clip of one to two inches an hour.
-
I am going to start my New Year's entertainment by viewing VAMPIRE CIRCUS which arrived in the mail today.
-
Only 4 hours and five minutes left in 2010 here in Indiana.
-
The first layer of The Cherpumple is baking.
What is cherpumple?
-
Not sure what to do. I lent someone money to pay his rent in early 2009. Over the last few months, I've left three phone message and three emails asking for the money back, and no response. Please send vibes for a friendly resolution, although it may be beyond being friendly at this point.
I send vibes for an amicable resolution

Cherpumple!
The girl that's hard to get
-
For some reason I've been sitting at the computer like so much fish singing like Jerry Lewis. I have no idea why but it's amusing me no end.
-
BK - Do you find yourself saying SPIDEY the way Jerry lewis would say LADY? If so, it's a hazard of too much time on All that Chat.
-
Thanks for the vibes, everyone.
-
The Loretta Swit thing on ATC has really shocked me. Really, did that guy want the full-cast photo taht he keeps in a binder signed by Ms. Swit for his own enjoyment.
One way or another, that photo would have ended up on Ebay if she had signed it. His story doesn't pass the smell test.
-
Basically, the guy had a photo signed by all cast members of MASH other than Loretta Swit, and she asked him to pay $25 for her signature and he called that "Hustling oon 43rd Street"
it's been confirmed by Musto that she was going to give that $25 to charity.
-
So Cherpumple can be equated as the Turducken of the dessert world......
-
DR Danise - THIS is a CHERPUMPLE (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rp4yWTLIPaE)!
O M G ! ! ! !
LOL! ;D Only DR's Laura and Sandra would make this. ;)
I am looking forward to the photos of this creation..
I agree Only Laura and Sandra :-)

Hubby and I are at home.. The wind is howling, it is snowing 1-2 inches and hour...
However i have a warmed up puter, telly, some movies and coffee..... I am set!

Now that is an interesting photo!

I bet that guy doesn't have Karen Philipp's autograph. In fact, he probably doesn't even know who she is. :)

I'm sitting here just about dying of laughter. I took the dogs outside because I knew they were a bit scared. Well Toby and Sheena took off into the back yard barking. About that time there was a VERY large BOOM!!!! I couldn't have timed it better if I tried. Both of them almost fell over them self running BACK to me and into the doggie door. Both are hugging my feet as I type this.
My big brave dogs! Who is protecting who?

My body is sore from playing more Wii Just Dance. They make you do such crazy things with your arms, ouch.
At least you are sore from doing something fun. ;)
-
Funny!
oh dear... poor darlings...

Yep it beats doing indoor exercise. So I am going to try to do this once a week.
My niece is obsessed with a couple of the songs so we keep having to do those. And there were two songs I tried that were so odd. One was so fast, but fun. The other "Holiday" by Madonna I could not get the hand movies. They were fast and my body just did not want to do them. Most of the songs aren't as fast.
-
I wonder what time Anderson and Kathy are on at? (it is 10pm?). I recorded it but will go check.
-
I mean I set it to record.

How do you get a hold of the folks at FaceBook? I think someones account has bee hacked and I want to report it.

Well, it's time for me to head to the restaurant for the New Year's Eve meal with the family!
I'll be back before midnight, Pacific Time, if not Eastern Time.
Be Safe, Everyone!!

Happy New Year, all! I, for one, will be happy to see the back of this year!
Me, too! Good riddance, 2010!

It turned out looking good.
Definitely! Hopefully, pictures can be taken when it's cut and served.
those will be interesting to see

Have fun George!

DR Edi are you holding up ok?
-
That money is gone, FJL. Along with the friendship.
Been there, done that and am still friends with all concerned. I just hate having to bug people about it, especially relatives!
-
In the Oh Good Grief!
Better than my cat sitter, who took my mail home and then forgot about it!
-
Good for you Edi. I have found when lending money there is always the risk it won't be returned and to consider if the risk is acceptable.

I can barely keep my eyes open. Was trying to watch THX 1138 - not exactly holiday entertainment, so I'll resume it some other time. I'm not really in the mood to watch anything. I'm in the mood to PARTAY, so I've got to get both my second and third wind.
-
Hello, everyone.
I send you all my very best for the coming year.
-
You too DR Jeanne.
-
Hi Jeanne. Happy New Year!
-
I had a decent year. Much to do, but the most important things got done. I hope that 2011 is a good year for everyone everywhere.
-
Thank you, Jane and Danise.
-
DR Edi are you holding up ok?
I'm working on a video for my step-mother's memorial service so it makes me a bit weepy, but I'm also just tired from nights spent at Dad's, where I get NO sleep. I picked up the bug everyone's been sharing up there so I'm laying low tonight; no partying. I will party here, where no once minds if I cough on them!
On the plus side, Greg' mom came home from the hospital to her nursing home, so that saves several hours a day driving down there. Now it's just trips to the mountains every few days.
Looking forward to the new year!
-
Happy New year Jeanne!

Edi can you see your Dad if you are sick? I'm glad your mother-in-law is home, at least there is some good news. When is the service?
VIBES OF STRENGTH & HEALING!!!

About ready to prep the asparagus. Just going to salt and pepper them and sprinkle with olive oil and put them under the broiler. The meat is still cooking and the potatoes need to be mashed and the wasabi added. The DP made the salad dressing but refuses to do much else LOL
-
Cherpumple! What fun! Good to see Chef Sandra and the finished masterpiece.
-
Good for you Edi. I have found when lending money there is always the risk it won't be returned and to consider if the risk is acceptable.
That's what I do. And whenever I loan it, I tell myself that I won't make another loan until the previous one is repaid.
-
Who is Karen Philipps and does she have anything to do with Jeff Goldblum??
-
That guy is terrible - my Jerry is much better.
-
Who's Jeff Goldblum?
-

They haven't set the day yet but it will probably be next week. It was supposed to be last Tuesday but the snowstorm made it impossible.
My dad has the same thing, probably got it from my relatives who are usually sick, so I don't think I can make him worse. I took a 90 minute walk today...for the first time in a long time it was warm enough---60! Now I can feel it...boy, I got out of shape fast!
-
(((hugs for you Edi))))))
-
Who's Jeff Goldblum?
I used to think he was very handsome; now he strikes me as a little creepy...
-
Thank you, Dakota. Good to see you here.
-
Thanks, Dakota and belated birthday wishes!
-
Amy, I am sorry for your loss. I do hope Greg's mother continues to improve and it all gets easier.
-
That guy is terrible - my Jerry is much better.
He's so bad he's funny...to me!
-
Belated birthday wishes from me, too! Sorry I missed it.
-
I didn't know about your loss, DR Edisaurus but i send my most deepest condolences to you and your family.
-
The Jeff Goldblum I saw on IMDB was tall and had thick, dark hair. The guy we saw at Hugo's yesterday had VERY short, gray hair. I wouldn't have recognized him even if I did know who he was. He's still tall, though.
-
BK knows everyone.
-
That money is gone, FJL. Along with the friendship.
Ditto!
I mean, I agree.
-
I've changed my mind about having the glass of wine. I don't want to be out of it when the fireworks really start and the dogs might need me.
-
We had an excellent dinner at Lasagna and now we are home. We got home a while ago but I was making some phone calls and Anthony is reading the owners manual for his new Walkman. It's almost 9:45. We may watch some television and then, like old people, we will probably be in bed before midnight.
-
I have no idea what a cherpumple is.
Never fear, you can always use Noxema on it.
-
$$ recovery vibes for DR FJL.
-
VAMPIRE CIRCUS is too twisted for Blu Ray.....most entertaining and BEE-ZAAR
-
Checking in here and doing some genealogy.. It has been sorely neglected for a while. I have made soem interesting connections from some recent obits that I got.
-
The Jeff Goldblum I saw on IMDB was tall and had thick, dark hair. The guy we saw at Hugo's yesterday had VERY short, gray hair. I wouldn't have recognized him even if I did know who he was. He's still tall, though.
This is actually so inaccurate perhaps you didn't even look at the right guy - Mr. Goldblum may have gray hair but if he does he's colored it, as his hair was the same brown color it's always been. Tall, yes. And he looks the same, pretty much.
-
Oh, Lord, this crazy thing with the Magic Mouse has me to the point where I'm about to stomp on it and smash it to smithereens. I made a long post, I went to move the mouse to "post" and it took me back to the last thing I looked at. It has done this repeatedly and is so annoying.
-
The post I made was something along the lines of - I've watched about forty minutes of Vampire Circus and really must get back to it someday. I put on North By Northwest, because that always makes me happy. Watched the first twenty minutes, then decided to listen to the Varese rerecording of the score. I am no fan of their rerecordings, but I remember thinking that this one was better than most - but it's not. I simply think I hadn't heard the original in a while. The orchestra is double the size of what was used for the film, and that renders the orchestrations washy and unfocused. The orchestra blends seem off, too. The Blu and Ray has an isolated track and that's the way to go - no one conducted Herrmann like Herrmann and he's the only one who truly got the unique Herrmann sound of strings and brass.
-
I learned today as well that we have three vacancies: Apt 5C, 4C, and 4A. I'd kill for 4A since it's huge, but it's going for around $2400/month. I'm guessing the one above me is around $1700. I think they'll be empty for a while. Who can afford them?
Good golly, and for a studio! And I thought my 2 bedroom for $715 a month was expensive! I guess that is the diffrence between Salem and NYC....well, one of the differences.
-
HEavy rain and thunder has made my inner web intermittent.....it took me 20 minutes to get back HHW.
-
When I got home from work NbyNW was on TCM. I meant to watch just a few minutes of it, but once I was into it again.....I had to watch until the end.
-
John Moulder-Brown is in VAMPIRE CIRCUS wearing Justin Bieber hair.

The asparagus and potatoes sound delicious.

My New Years Eve viewing so far has been the 2010 release of the Bollywood film RED ALERT starring Suniel Shetty. It is about Naxalites in India...they are supposedly fighting the government on the behalf of poor farmers, but they are considered terrorists...and they act like it, too...quite a good movie. No musical numbers, but Suniel Shetty is excellent as a poor family man caught between the Naxalites and the police.
Definitely not your typical Bollywood entertainer, and it did not do well critically or financially...but I liked it.

I understand. I've been on vacation all week. I'm just going to hate going back to work on Monday.

Guest?

Did some thinking about 2011. And it's cold turkey about some habits that need to be broken. Coffee, gone. Spending money, leave me alone. Wasting time, poof. But mostly, trying to do it all, can't be done. :-\
-
I just ran seven variations of the new book title past Muse Margaret. At first, she liked the very first one I'd come up with many months ago - I liked it, too. But as we went through each and she told me why she wasn't responding to them, we came to one where she'd misunderstood the final word - she thought I'd said "masters" - when I told her what it really was then that became her favorite - for her, it sounded evocative and mysterious, whereas the other title was very on the nose in terms of its location. So, we're going with that, holding the other one in reserve just in case I have a preference when I actually do my field trip part two on Sunday - the fun part is if we go with the one she now likes, it was a real place, whereas the other title's name is made up.
-
I'm looking forward to work on Monday. I must say that after 20 years I still like it there. They might only tolerate me, but I still like it there.
;) Dear Danise, Happy Monday vibes for both of us. ;)
-
I wish I had a job to go to on Monday!

Coffee gone = good.
Spending money = only buy what you want and need and that will make you happy.
Wasting time = poof for sure.
Can't be done = correct if you think that way. Incorrect if you open your mind - you'd be surprised at just how you can do it all if you've put your mind to it. Can't is a word that should pretty much be banished from vocabularies.
-
Thanks for the continued vibes of support for my family, y'all!
-
I did some research on the magic mouse to see why it's doing it. There is a maneuver you do with two fingers swiping it that takes you back to the previous page you were on. And that's what's happening here occasionally, only I'm not using two fingers and I'm not swiping. I'm putting my hand on the mouse and it's deciding that my hand is two fingers and swiping. Damn them, damn them all to hell.
-
I really admire people like bk, who just keep diving into new adventures on a non stop basis. Where does he find the energy, both physical and mental. I'd get dizzy. ???
-
I'm trying to keep my eyes open but I'm starting to get really tired. Thank goodness we only have a little over an hour to go.
-
I do my thinking about the past year and the year ahead at eleven-thirty. And my bottle of champagne is chilling and will be ready for me to pop the cork and have my one sip.
-
I'm getting my second wind. My first wind was kaput.
-
And the partay has begun and I'm happy to be here amongst the likes of our dear readers.
-
Our first celebration is in an hour, but the big ball drop is in four hours.
-
Ten people at the partay - pretty good. And five GUESTS.
-
Get me off this damn page.
-
We've been to see TRUE GRIT, which we all liked very much. On the way home we stopped at Dragon Express and picked up lots of Chinese food and now we have lots of leftovers in the fridge. I have made a scrambled egg casserole for tomorrow's breakfast and taken a coffee cake out of the freezer.
-
CRANBERRIES!

CHERPUMPLE! Me want some now.

I'm wishing everyone the best new year as 2011 looms in the hour. . .

CHERPUMPLE! Me want some now.
Did you see the photo on the previous page?
-
I had my sandwich and fries, and then some coconut M&Ms. That may be it for the evening. Or not. Although I shan't be going out.
-
Yes I saw the photograph and me want some NOW. I can't eat the photograph.

It got quite a reaction. Everyone was very curious.

What music shall I listen to next?

Make that eleven dear readers.

It's really quite in the neighborhood, expected at least one noisy party.

We must have a lot of critters about because the booms are really starting up.

My knees go out all the time, one day I will just fall over. ;D

It got quite a reaction. Everyone was very curious.

It was very good, actually.

I decided after dinner to watch the BBC adaptation of Elizabeth Gaskell's WIVES AND DAUGHTERS. After finteen minutes I decided my attention span wasn't strong enough tonight so I switched to the new DVD of the Royal Ballet production of NUTCRACKER. I wanted to like it but nearly everything going on put me out of joint. When it was over, I put on the film version of the New York City Ballet production and watched Act One. It reconfirmed my opinion that Balanchine is my favorite ballet choreographer and Jerome Robbns right behind him.
I first saw the City Ballet production in December 1966, and its magic, wonder and perfection are compromised in the film - some things should only be seen pn a proscenium stage - and the things I dislike most in the film version are McCaulay Culkin, who's no dancer and out of character, and Kevin Kline's narration which is unnecessary. The director often cuts from the dances to reactions and that's a pain. Now I want to see NUTCRACKER at Lincoln Center again.
Balanchine's staging is amazing to me, for three reasons: his choreography fits the music so amazingly well, his direction of the cast, especially the parents, grandparents and children in the party is glorious, from little touches like the grandfather dozing during the party, the toast to the grandparents, the children's reactions to the dancing toys of Drosselmeyer, and the wonderful development of the spoiled brat little brother Fritz. The third reason it works so well is that he catches the diluted spirit of E.T.A. Hopffmann, author of the original story {Nutcracker and Mouse King[/i], whose stories seem to find the horror lurking under the Biedermeier coziness of middleclass German life of the early 19th Century. Hoffmann's story for children is not the gothic horror of stories like "The Sandman" or "The Forest Warden" but it does have a lot of real?/fantasy? aspects that the ballet scenario dilutes. Balanchine isn't afraid to get spooky or to develop haunting stage pictures. I hadn't seen the ballet between 1966 and 1985, when I saw it for the first time after I moved to New York, but what I remembered from that 1966 production was the wonderful sequence after the Mouse King is killed when the doll's bed carrying little Marie, who's fainted after saving the Nutcracker from the Mouse Kong, drifted out the window into a forest of falling snow. It was the most beautiful image, accompanied by some of Tchaikovsky's most beautiful music, of a child falling deeper into fantastic dream. It was stunning and final scene of the first act, a blizzard accompanied by dancing snowflakes and a boys' chorus imitating the wind, is one of Balanchine's most glorious moments. Pure magic.
Time to watch Anderson and Kathy Griffin raise hell!
-
Good Evening!
So...
Errands.
Lunch with a friend who's in town from Portland, OR.
More errands.
Phone calls.
Concert that a friend was playing in (Strauss II, Vaughan Williams, Beethoven's 9th)
Observing the crazy crowds in Columbus Circle and Central Park who were getting ready for the Midnight Run.
Train ride home.
Bought a MegaMillions ticket.
Bought some Chinese food.
And now I'm watching Bravo - I just totally adore Andy Cohen.
And I'll probably turn in a little after midnight since I have that "I need sleep" headache.
All in all, it was a somewhat productive last day of 2010 for me. I didn't get everything accomplished, but at least I have 2011 ahead of me. ;)
-
Happy 2011 Everyone!
-
Listening to The Caretakers by Elmer Bernstein - I was in the mood for music about crazy people.
-
I'm ready for some balls to drop, baby.

I throw the rest of the bottle in the trash.
-
DR MBarnum - I meant to mention this earlier: The multiplex near my parents' house in Richmond, regularly sets aside one of the theaters for a Bollywood movie. Currently showing: Tees Maar Khan (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PYmpVwrmKT8)
-
Dear Edisaurus, your jobs are thrilling and exciting, mine is only paperwork. I LIKE PAPERWORK. ;D
People think that and then I invite them to the editing room. After about a half hour, they usually say "How can you do this every day? It would drive me crazy!"
The ones who don't say that usually become my assistants!
-
I don't know how long the coconut brand has been out, but I got a big box of 'em at Costco about two months ago.
-
I do my thinking about the past year and the year ahead at eleven-thirty. And my bottle of champagne is chilling and will be ready for me to pop the cork and have my one sip.
What happens to the rest of it?
Sounds like the glass of wine I was going to have. Maybe I will take one sip as well so I can say I had a taste on New Years.
-
SyFY has its Twilight Zone marathon on right now.
I've been watching it. So good!
-
The Password is Swordfish.
-
I'm enjoying our partay very much and I do hope people stick around until the West Coast balls drop.
-
Just got a Happy New Year's call from my Little French Boy in Paree!
-
Get me off this damn page.
-
I throw the rest of the bottle in the trash.
I hope you buy cheap champagne!
-
You've been at the same college for 12 years.....why in 12 years, I had gone to THREE colleges!
-
I'll be sticking around until my DH and crew come home from the Chik-Fil-A Bowl. Hope they get home by midnight so we can ring in the new year and have champagne. One crew member doesn't drink so I have some sparkling water, too!
-
Somebody gave it to me - I somehow always have a bottle here.
-
We have been watching the complete DVD set of JERICHO that Rob received for Christmas and have now switched over to CNN to ring in the New Year.
-
Woa--that one shook the whole house!
-
I keep hearing booms outside...
-
It's only 9:30 here. I wonder when the fireworks will really start. We heard one at 8:30.
-
Twenty minutes.
-
Now I want to see The Nutcracker again.
Every time I see it, the little boy playing the brat brother Fritz steals the first act. The kid in the movie has such great moments, like trying to get the girls to pick him as a partner in the march and he ends up dancing with his mother, like the brush up against Drosselmeyer's nephew and trying to start a fight, like hs constant attempts for attention and gifts, and Balanchine gives him a great exit at the end of the party trying to hide a friend to stay over and his father carrying him off to bed. That same attention to detail is everywhere. There's none of that in the Royal Ballet production, just a lot of fussiness: the Royal Ballet Drosselmeyer doesn't come near Bart Cook's loving godfather at City Ballet. He spends too much time twirling his cape and throwing glitter like he's playing Mame and singing "It's Today."
-
LOL.....I've seen several Drosselmeyer's under that same impression.

DR elmore - Have you been reading about the new ABT production that's currently running out at BAM?
-
I just picked a channel to watch the ball drop in NYC. What's neat is that I've been there! I know that Mama Mia sign is where "our" hotel was.
I wish we could all meet again sometime in 2011!
-
I think we all WILL meet again in 2011. I have something in mind.
-
Some ball is going to drop in ten minutes. But three more hours here. I'm drinking a little Diet Coke (I really have stuck to two cans or less a day for the last three years), and trying not to want something to eat.
-
That's easy, though, since there's not really any food here - serious food anyway.
-
From your mouth to God's ear!
-
I think I will write the notes in a little while, because once I do my contemplating thing I won't be finished till just before midnight - so I'll have them all ready to go.
-
Eight minutes to part one of dropping balls.
-
I think we all WILL meet again in 2011. I have something in mind.
Yay!
-
Seven!
-
Six!
-
My mom just posted this on Facebook:
Naz and I would like to wish all of Amy's friends that we met in Manhattan last month a Happy New Year, and a blessed 2011.
-
Five!
-
I really like sitting on your lap. I could sit here all day - if you don't stand up.
-
Four!
-
Four!
-
I feel a ball about to drop.
-
Three.
-
More rain! Whew....
-
Three!
-
And then three hours to our part of the country's New Year.
-
This will be the first time in many years I haven't been kissed at midnight. Where's my love-cat?
-
Guess I'll text Mr. Linton at midnight....
-
Two.
-
Balls at the ready.
-
One minute!
-
I think the last time I was kissed at midnight on New Year's Eve was two years ago. My how time flies.
-
This is what we didn't get to see on Times Square last year!
-
Happy New Year 2011!!!!!! :) :) :) :) :) :)[move]
-
And - HAPPY NEW YEAR TO OUR OTHER COAST DENIZENS!!!
-
Happy New Year.
1-1-11 ;D

DR elmore - Have you been reading about the new ABT production that's currently running out at BAM?
No, but I would love to see it even though I did read several weeks ago that it is very nontraditional. When I was doing BABES IN TOYLAND in Houston in 1991, I wanted to see the Houston Ballet production, which everyone in Houston said was great. The only production I've seen that are nearly as good as Balanchine's is the Joffrey Ballet production around 1988 or so and the San Francisco Ballet production, but I think Balanchine's iis near definitive because it has so much going right. I don't like his moving the Sugar Plum Fairy's variation from the pas de deux to the beginning of Act Two because it destroys the compositional layout of the sequence, but that's a real minor quibble. He knows exactly what he's doing and that's creating a ballet about two parties, one a gemutlich cozy middleclass European family gathering created with great attention to detail, and the other a fantasy party at the court of the Sugar Plum Fairy involving Christmas tree angels, dancing marzipan, sugarplums and peppermint sticks, and the other great ensemble number, the Waltz of the Flowers, with those dazzling Karinska dresses of layers of rose colors ranging from pink to deep red. It's absolutely stunning in the theatre. Balanchine knows it's not a children's ballet, it's a ballet for an audience to remember their childhood.
-
2011!
-
But not here.
-
Here it's 2010.
-
Hoping some of you stick it out until midnight here.
-
And the fireworks are booming!
-
I guess you have to click on that paper clip to make it work.
-
Well, all hell is going off. I guess it is now 2011. I pray to God that it's a good year for everyone of you.
-
And now, I shall write some notes, I think.
-
Happy New Year to Everyone here on HHW!!
-
We have THUNDER and FIREWORKS!
-
My mom just posted this on Facebook:
Naz and I would like to wish all of Amy's friends that we met in Manhattan last month a Happy New Year, and a blessed 2011.
I wish the same to them!
-
HAPPY NEW YEAR. 1-1-11. WOW. 8) 8) 8)
-
Oh Professor - you're full of whimsy.
You can notice it from there? I'm always like that when I eat radishes.
-
And now I want to start off 2011 with some quiet time away from all the "technology".
bk - Thank You, again, for creating such an amazing, truly one-of-a-kind place here on the internet. It may be like a "Grand Hotel" at times, but it's always nice to know that there's always someone at the Check-In Desk. ;)
Goodnight.
-
Happy New Year from SW OH!
-
This west coast person will not be able to stay awake till our midnight. So I must say goodnight now.
Sweet dreams.
;)

Peace, love, and happiness.
;)
-
Both dogs have gone under the bed! The guy across the street set some screamers off and that was the end of them!
-
Happy New Year, everyone. I'm tuckered out and am off to beddy-bye.
-
And with that a very Happy New Year ALL and Goodnight!
But I can't go with also saying my thanks to our own BK and many thanks for this wonderful place where these fantastic people are. You mean the world to me!
-
The dinner guests were ASTONISHED!
That looks good.... How did it taste?
-
Happy New Years and a great 2011!!
-
I still have 43 Minutes.
-
Happy New Year! I'm surprised we're still up but we won't be for long.
G'night!
-
It was good, DakotaCelt. Lots of flavors.
-
Sorry, BK, if I stay until the ball drops on the west coast, I'll be the one asleep at the end of the couch. Thanks for hosting us on NYE and all the other days of the year - 'night!
-
I am intrigued and wish I could try a piece
-
Jrand..... No fireworks here.. Just howling winds
-
We had fireworks, even though it was two hours early.
-
Here's another picture of the cherpumple after several pieces had been cut:
-
I think if we had refrigerated it, it would have stayed together better.
-
Dinner was a success. Watching a marathon of "The Tudors" waiting until midnight. Ice cream at some point.
-
Here's another picture of the cherpumple after several pieces had been cut:
That's what I look like when I'm overtired.
-
That looks good, Matthew.
-
I Think If We Had Refrigerated It, It Would Have Stayed Together Better - that's the title of my next novel.
-
Asparagus - all that's missing is a mass of hollandaise.
-
I shall be up. Notes are written.
-
I'm really tired. Don't really know why.
-
That looks good, Matthew.
Thanks, it was delish....
-
But only two hours and twenty minutes to go. Perhaps we'll at least get to page fifteen - haven't done that in a 'coon's age.
-
It looks yummy.... Lots of colors!
-
Do you bake the pie crust right into the cake?
-
15 Minutes to go here!
-
You put the pre-baked pie into the cake pan and fill it up with batter.
-
I want CAKE.
-
Someone send me a piece of CHERPUMPERNICKLE!
-
I have cake. And pie.
-
Laura, tell your daughter I, for one, would like a photograph in her Cherry Coke pants and Swedish Chef hat.
-
I don't think it would survive the trip in the mail. Heck, it didn't even survive the night.
-
So do I! I want cake also..
-
We'll get a New Year's Day photo for you.
-
You then use the prebaked ones taht are from teh store?
-
I agree Bk..... I am now hungry for cherpumple also..
-
Yes. Did you see the link to the video?
-
Matthew, I think I could eat a whole plate of that asparagus. Yum.
-
My dailup is being wacky and I could not view it.
Hopefully I will be getting faster internet in the near future
-
Two hours to dropping of balls.
-
I'm just being so lazy.
-
I can only tell you that THIS is the most happening place on all the Internet. Everywhere else - a ghost town.
-
a minute until central time goes to 2011
-
I am signing off, everybody! I had a great time with everyone here and Kathy and Anderson on tv.
BK, thanks for being such a great host.
'Night!
-
Good night, Elmore.
-
It is now 2011 in the Central Time Zone
Happy New Years!
-
NN Elmore!

DR MBarnum - I meant to mention this earlier: The multiplex near my parents' house in Richmond, regularly sets aside one of the theaters for a Bollywood movie. Currently showing: Tees Maar Khan (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PYmpVwrmKT8)
It is playing nearby here, in Tigard, as well. Had thought about going up an seeing it.
-
I think I'm done with Diet Coke - I drank less than half a can, so I haven't even had two today.
-
Back to water, and then my sip of champagne.
-
I think I would like to have eaten at DR Matthew's house tonight!!
-
I would like to have eaten ANYWHERE tonight. I gotta tell you.
-
LURE OF THE SWAMP was a rather dreary noir filled with characaters that were not very nice...and most of them died...but the movie was still fun to see again (I last saw it on DIALING FOR DOLLARS back when I was about 8 or 9 years old)
-
Although I still feel somewhat full from my sandwich and fries, which I ate at three.
-
Perhaps I will ask BK again....any chance of some Paul Dunlap in Kritzerland's future?
-
I shall now go and enjoy Vera Ralston in ACCUSED OF MURDER (1956).
Vera in color is always a fun thing!
-
Not sure about ol' Paul for Kritzerland. Unfortunately, some of the more fun but marginal titles of last year did not do that well, and I have to look very carefully at those kinds of releases for this year. I do have an Albert Glasser planned, but it probably won't be along till summer.
-
Ninety minutes to balls dropping. I may do my contemplating thing in about forty-five minutes. I think I'll go open the champagne - that will probably take me fifteen minutes to figure out.
-
Happy New Year from Arizona!
-
Happy New Year, to all at HHW!
-
Fresh fish!!
-
And now I want to start off 2011 with some quiet time away from all the "technology".

Ibid and ibbity-bibbity-bobbity-boo.
-
What is it, fish?
-
I shall contemplate in about ten minutes.
-
I got the champagne open.
-
I do hope dear reader Sandra will post a photograph in her Cherry Coke pants, Cherry Coke sweatshirt, and Swedish Chef hat. Perhaps holding a plate of Cherpumple.
-
What am I, doing a monologue?
-
Get me off this damn page.
-
Only fifty minutes to the LA balls drop.
-
I hope I'm not the only one in the jernt. But what a marvelously marvelous partay we've had.
-
I wish I had a job to go to on Monday!
Ain't it the gospel truth, as Lena Horne once sang.
-
A very Happy New Year to all of the wonderful people who inhabit this little bit of heaven known as HHW And a very Happy New Year to our beloved host, BK.
I havedecided to have a new ailment for 2011. My right knee, that I have never had any problem with, has completely gone out on me. So............................
G'night!
Vibes that your right knee bends to your will and not its own.
-
Notice that the piece of Cherpumple is on the floop dish.
-
Night, all. Vibes and pleasant dreams for a great new year to all.
-
And I wish you could send me a piece of Cherpumple, too.
-
Dear Reader Sandra, you have made my night and have created a perfect start to the New Year!
CRANBERRIES!
-
I have done my contemplation thing and am ready for some balls to drop. Champagne is ready, too.
-
So, whoever is here, please stick around - it's only twenty-eight more minutes!
-
Notice that the piece of Cherpumple is on the floop dish.
Nice!!
-
Well, it's time for me to head to the restaurant for the New Year's Eve meal with the family!
I'll be back before midnight, Pacific Time, if not Eastern Time.
Be Safe, Everyone!!
I'm finally home from dinner and then my sister's house. Happy New Year to the Eastern, Central and Mountain time zones!
-
I've got a lot of ketchuping to do!
-
I am trying to stay awake but my eyelids are getting heavy!
-
Well, it's time for me to head to the restaurant for the New Year's Eve meal with the family!
I'll be back before midnight, Pacific Time, if not Eastern Time.
Be Safe, Everyone!!
Have a good, safe time DR George! Happy New Year!!!
Thanks, Danise!
-
Have fun George!
Thanks, Dakota! I did. It was fairly quiet, but fun. We played Scrabble at my sister's. I came in fourth place...out of four. ::)
;)
-
I've turned the TV on so I can know exactly when it's midnight, as I don't trust any clocks in the house.
-
I like to play scrabble when I get a chance to do it
-
Dick Clark looks very old, and sounds older.
-
I was hoping for page fifteen and here we are on page sixteen. I feel that soon we will be the most popular site on all the Internet.
-
Fifteen minutes - the balls are at the ready.
-
I would not want to be in Times Square right now. I wonder if FJL can hear the ruckus up on tenth.
-
Wow, I think early in the New Year I will achieve a rather major plateau - a minor one within the next couple of days, but soon thereafter a major one.
-
Why is everyone just sitting there like so much fish? Oh, yeah, George is catching up.
-
The best part of the evening at my sister's was when we were all leaving. Larry (my sister's boyfriend) brought over the Blu-ray player that he's giving me because he bought himself a brand new Blu-ray player. I just need to get an HDMI cable or some component cables. AND if I get an Ethernet cable, I can hook it up to the Internet and do some fancy stuff with it. :D
-
Why is everyone just sitting there like so much fish? Oh, yeah, George is catching up.
I'm still back on Page 8...and counting.
-
Get an HDMI - that's what you need.
-
Page eight is so last year.
-
Twelve minutes.
-
Make that eleven minutes.
-
I am pouring the champagne in one minute so that I can sip it at midnight.
-
Ten minutes.
-
The dinner guests were ASTONISHED!
Wow! That's incredible!
-
Get an HDMI - that's what you need.
I thought that I already had an extra, but I have no idea where it could be. I know I got one on eBay for less than $10 and it's great.
-
I think his health issues are catching up with him
-
Eight minutes - surprisingly the computer clock seems to be right on the money.
-
Seven minutes.
-
I hope I don't get drunk from my sip of champagne.
-
Six minutes.
-
The balls are ready, willing, and able to drop.
-
Five minutes.
-
I'm here! Had a great time at the new year's eve party and will see the new year in West coast time
-
Four minutes.
-
four minutes
-
Yay, Cilla's here!
-
I have a very good feeling about 2011
-
Three minutes.
-
I'm watching the repeat of CNN Times Square Ball dropping
-
Two minutes.
-
2 minutes
-
I'm watching a Seattle station...there are less than 2 minutes before they shoot fireworks off the Seattle Space Needle!
-
Happy New Year BK and HHW!!!
-
one minute
-
I must say the broadcast is irritating and I can't wait till I shut it off. Only a minute now until 2011.
-
Thirty seconds.
-
HAPPY NEW YEAR 2011!!!
-
Happy New Year BK!
-
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!!
-
Fresh fish, California!!
-
The Seattle station was playing the theme from "Superman: The Movie."
-
We had a great white elephant gift exchange. Some really funny stuff. And lots and lots of food. I'm so glad I went. I had a great time. and to be able to come home and still join you for the west coast new year....a very good night indeed.
-
Better go, it's 2:00 AM here. I'm never up this late. Night all
-
Good night!
-
What a partay! I had my sip of champagne and am now roaring drunk. Not.
-
Seattle's fireworks are now over...they were pretty darned cool!
-
Can we make it to 500??
-
..one more...
-
Happy New Year!
-
Gratuitous Post #
500!! ::)
501.
-
HAPPY NEW YEAR, ONE AND ALL!
-
It is much less noisy living in downtown Salem on New Years Eve then it was living in my old neighborhood. I can just barely hear the fireworks, all of which are probably coming from the street I used to live on.
-
Well, aside from having to take a pay cut, going bankrupt, losing my house, and losing Dog Bosco 2010 wasn't too bad of a year....I do hope that 2011 is better, however.
-
Oh, and thankfully Vera Ralston was acquited of murder just before midnight...thanks to David Brian and Lee Van Cleef's policework.
